| WA 93 (3/2019): Bollinger's 2005 La Grande Annee is a classical but comparatively precocious rendition of this cuvee that's already drinking well, offering up aromas of honeyed yellow apples, dried white flowers, English walnuts, praline and tea leaves. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and vinous, with a fine mousse, ripe acids and a dry, richly saline finish. It was disgorged with six grams per liter dosage after more than nine years sur lattes. While this isn't a historic vintage for Bollinger—or for Champagne as a whole—it's a persuasive Grande Annee that exemplifies the house style. |

| WA 90 (11/2012): Chiquet’s 2005 Brut Special Club is laced with dried pears, cherries, spices, mint and orange peel. This is a fairly soft, open Champagne. Like so many 2005s, it appears to be best suited for drinking over the next few years. Sweet floral and spiced notes are woven together nicely on the attractive, soft finish. The Special Club is 65% Chardonnay and 35% Pinot Noir. Disgorgement date: June 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. |

JS 97 (7/2015): I believe that the 2005 DP is the best since 2002, which remains the best recent vintage and is probably only eclipsed by the amazing 100-point 1996. The 2005 is a full-bodied DP with so much richness and loads of ripe fruit such as pineapple and papaya. It has a wonderful, creamy texture and a long and intense finish. It’s a Champagne that fully satisfies but at the same time challenges you with its strength, depth and persistence on the palate. VM 94 (11/2015): The 2005 Dom Perignon is a festive way to kick off our 2005 Bordeaux retrospective. Fresh and vibrant, with the classic hints of DP reduction, the 2005 is super-expressive tonight. Although not one of the truly epic Dom Perignons, the 2005 offers lovely energy, while its mid-weight personality makes it an excellent choice for current drinking. The bright, precise style is the perfect complement to David Bouley's hors d'oeuvres. WS 94 (11/2015): A rich version in an elegant, finely knit frame, with a streak of smoky minerality underscoring the flavors of clover honey, patisserie apple, blackberry and biscuit. Creamy in texture and persistent, with a long, sculpted finish. Drink now through 2030. |

WS 95 (4/2017): This rose Champagne is rich and vinous, offering smoky minerality up front, expanding to show dried raspberry, mandarin orange zest, brioche and espresso crème flavors that ride the fine, lacy mousse. Spice and mineral details persist on the racy finish. Drink now through 2027. VM 94 (12/2016): The 2005 Dom Perignon Rose is surely one of the wines of this challenging harvest. That's the good news. The less good news, in relative terms, of course, is that the 2005 does not appear to have budged much over the last year. The 2005 remains tightly wound and a touch nervous, with considerable energy and tons of intensity, all qualities that will help it age. Readers will have to be patient with the 2005. Even over time, I imagine the 2005 will always remain a Champagne of cut and energy. In 2005, Pinot Noir makes up around 55-60% of the blend, which is on the higher side of things for Dom Perignon Rose in historical terms. Antonio Galloni. |

JS 96 (3/2012): The complexity and youthful freshness here makes a striking Champagne that offers immense pleasure and a certain richness and depth that reflects the style of the vintage with some warmth reflected in the wine. The nose has rich citrus and stone fruits, some white flowers, light creamy honey notes and fresh sweet pastry, it has a toasty thread that has built quickly in the wine. Plenty of body on the palate, it has a wealth of assertive citrus and more exotic fruits too, the power and concentration undeniable, the length impressive and the balance impeccable. Already great drinking here. Slightly higher chardonnay component at around 45%. VM 94 (12/2012): Bright yellow-gold. Heady floral-accented citrus and orchard fruits on the nose, with smoky mineral and floral overtones adding complexity. Velvety and chewy in texture, offering deep, juicy orange and poached pear flavors and suave honey and chamomile nuances. Blends precision with power, finishing with a distinct mineral quality and excellent persistence. Josh Raynolds. WS 94 (11/2012): Vibrant and mouthwatering, this offers a range of patisserie pear and apple fruit, candied lemon zest, pastry dough and marzipan notes set on a finely detailed texture, which imparts a great deal of finesse. The lasting finish echoes a smoky mineral note. Drink now through 2025. WA 93 (11/2012): The 2005 Cristal stands out for its exceptional inner perfume and elegance. Soft, delicate and pretty, the 2005 is a relatively immediate Cristal with all of the signatures very much in the right place. The 2005 doesn't have the opulence of the 2002 nor the focus of the 2004, but it is a very pretty, if somewhat small-scaled version of this iconic Champagne. I would drink the 2005 while the 2002 and 2004 age. Although Cristal has an impeccable track record when it comes to aging, personally I would not push it with the 2005. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. BH 93 (10/2015): Like the 2006 this is notably ripe with plenty of yeast, brioche and orchard fruit characters but in this case there is no tropicality. There is fine mid-palate density to the relatively powerful and very rich flavors that possess excellent complexity on the lingering finish that really fans out as it sits in the mouth. Like many 2005s this is not an especially refined vintage for Cristal nor does it possess the effervescent punch it usually does. Those aspects duly noted, this certainly cannot be faulted in terms of richness and complexity and for my taste, this is probably drinking about as well as it's going to though I underscore that it should drink well for many years to come. Drink now+. |

| VM 94 (12/2014): Bright yellow. Vibrant pear and melon aromas are complicated by suggestions of ginger, brioche and smoky minerals. Dry, smoky and precise, offering intense orchard and pit fruit flavors that gain weight with aeration. A dusty mineral quality adds focus and lift to the long, penetrating, floral finish. There's a Burgundian thing going on here that's quite intriguing. Josh Raynolds. |

| VM 93 (7/2014): The 2005 Comtes de Champagne Rose is a wine of contrasts. At first rich and vinous on the palate, the 2005 turns more delicate with time in the glass as its silkier and floral qualities become more evident. Sweet red berry and spice notes linger on the delicate finish. Antonio Galloni. |
