| WS 88 (2/2006): Plenty of cedar, blackberry and cigar box aromas and flavors here. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a licorice, berry and cherry aftertaste. A bit hard and tight. Slightly hollow midpalate. Give it some time. Best after 2006. 3,750 cases made. |

WA 91 (12/2002): The brilliant 1999 Chianti Classico Rancia requires 1-3 more years of bottle age. Revealing a deep garnet/ruby/purple color as well as a tightly-knit personality, it offers notes of leather, black cherries, currants, earth, and compost. In the mouth, there is considerable depth, medium to full body, moderately high tannin, and a firm, Bordeaux-like structure super-imposed on the wine's fruit characteristics. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2015. WS 91 (9/2002): Very pretty aromas of crushed raspberries and fresh flowers. Full-bodied, yet refined and caressing. All in finesse and complexity. One of the best in Chianti Classico. Best after 2002. 2,915 cases made. |

WA 92 (12/2002): The forward 100% Sangiovese, barrique-aged 1999 Fontalloro's deep purple color is followed by a big, sweet, luscious perfume of spicy, toasty oak, cedar, fruitcake, leather, espresso, and black currants. Medium to full-bodied, with great fruit on the attack and mid-palate, and a long, opulent finish, this dazzling Italian red will drink well for 6-12 years. WS 91 (10/2002): A big and rich, super Sangiovese, with plum and floral aromas that follow through to a full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a long, long, elegant finish. A beauty. Best after 2004. 2,915 cases made. |

Brunello di Montalcino |

WA 91 (4/2005): The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino, the first wine Carlo Ferrini was able to fully control from the start, is an important step in the evolution of the estate’s style, fresher in color than in the past, notably more fruity on the nose with fine focus and complexity, broad, tarry, and meaty on the palate, well concentrated but round and balanced as well. Drink: 2005-2018. VM 93 (10/2004): Full red-ruby. Sexy, wild aromas of briary berries, plum, spicecake, roast coffee and minerals. Lush, dense and packed with fruit. Very ripe but with firm, harmonious acidity giving the wine shape and grip. This really dusts the palate with dark berry and woodsy flavors. Deep, thick and brooding on the long finish. Offers a lovely combination of Old World flavors and New World sweetness and texture. WS 90 (7/2004): Plenty of plum and spice character, with hints of blackberries. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a fresh finish. Delicious. |
