| BH 93 (9/2022): A still slightly reserved nose reflects plenty of spice nuances on the maturing but still quite fresh red, blue and black fruit-suffused aromas. The cool, pure and lacy middleweight flavors possess superb detail and incredible finesse on the understated, focused and sneaky long finish. This is one very classy effort that, for my taste, is still on the way up though it is not so compact or backward that it couldn't be enjoyed now. Drink 2026+. |

| BH 93-96 (1/2014): A strikingly spicy nose offers up notes composed of essence of red pinot fruit, black currant, violets and sandalwood. In much the same fashion as the En Orveaux this possesses an ultra-refined mouth feel as the shaping tannins are quite fine-grained that could not be more different compared to that of the Malconsorts yet this is perhaps even longer. Even at such a young state of development this is a remarkably harmonious wine of understated grace. Wow. Drink 2024+. |

| BH 93-96 (1/2019): An exuberantly fresh if restrained nose offers up a panoply of spice elements to the primarily red berry fruit aromas that display additional breadth with hints of orange pekoe tea, lavender and a whisper of sandalwood. The lacy yet concentrated middle weight flavors possess a highly refined mouthfeel and first-rate complexity on the balanced and wonderfully persistent if youthfully austere finish. Like the Malconsorts, this is gorgeous but it is also very clearly built for long-term cellaring. Drink 2035+. |

| BH 97 (1/2020): There are three barrels of the 2018 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru this year, two of them new and the third four years old. This was displaying some reduction at the time of my visit, although underneath there is intense black and red fruit plus a subtle marine influence of oyster shell and seaweed. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent red cherries and raspberry laced with blood orange. It feels very tight, a little muscular in style, a Grand Cru that is built for the long term. But will it surpass the spellbinding Malconsorts? Drink 2025-2050. |

| BH 94-97 (1/2022): Cool, airy and elegant aromas are composed by notes of exotic tea, a broad range of spice elements and a ripe mix of various dark berries. The palate impression of the super-sleek middle weight flavors is also quite restrained while flashing superb depth and huge length on the youthfully austere, dusty and focused finale. This is also very much structured to reward long-term cellaring and should also ultimately be brilliant. Drink 2038+. |

| BH 94-96 (1/2024): A reticent if beautifully complex nose blends notes of various spice elements with those of floral, red currant, plum and a hint of exotic tea. The sleek, intense and wonderfully textured medium weight flavors possess outstanding drive and unusually good power on the firm, youthfully austere and quite serious finish that possesses stunningly good depth and persistence. This is exceptionally stylish and classy and a wine that should age accordingly. Drink 2037+. |

| BH 93-96 (1/2025): A relatively high-toned and super-fresh nose freely reveals exuberantly spicy notes of red currant, pomegranate, anise, rose petal, exotic tea, violet and lavender. The lilting yet impressively intense medium weight flavors are also not especially dense but do deliver stunningly good depth and persistence on the overtly austere, balanced and sleek finale. This silky effort is exceptionally classic and a wine that should also age effortlessly. Drink 2038+. |

BH 90 (1/2012): A mix of wood and natural spice sits atop red and blackberry liqueur aromas that merge into rich, concentrated and pure flavors that happily possess plenty of extract as the tannins are robust and quite firm. This is a relatively powerful effort that isn't an exercise in finesse but it most impressive nonetheless. A big Vosne villages. VM 88+ (4/2012): Good medium red. Reticent but lively aromas of black cherry, cassis, licorice and menthol, with some riper notes of mocha and chocolate coming up with air. Juicy but a bit youthfully aggressive; in a rather powerful, chocolatey style for village wine. No shortage of energy here, but this needs time to harmonize in bottle. |

VM 90 (3/2013): Medium red. Musky red berries, minerals, coffee and smoky oak on the complex, soil-driven nose. At once seamless and energetic, with a light touch to the sweet redcurrant and spice flavors. Brisk acidity gives this a penetrating character. Impressively long, structured village wine. Stephen Tanzer. BH 89 (5/2017): A very pretty and still relatively primary nose features ample spice nuances along with a pretty mix of both red and dark pinot fruit and whiffs of oak and violet. There is a lovely sense of verve and delineation to the delicious middle weight flavors that terminate in an ever-so-mildly austere but impressively persistent finish. This has arrived at a stage where it could be enjoyed now but I would be inclined to allow it another 2 to 4 years of bottle age first as the wine is still on the way up. Drink 2020+. |

WA 87-89 (1/2023): The 2021 Vosne-Romanée is more reserved than the open-knit Gevrey, exhibiting aromas of sweet plums, orange zest, petals and spices. Medium-bodied, lively and compact, with powdery tannins and bright acids, it will require more patience. BH 89-91 (1/2023): A discreet dollop of wood sets off the spicy aromas of plum and purple fruit along with a floral hint. The delicious and vibrant flavors possess a velvety mid-palate yet manage to retain good delineation on the moderately austere and sneaky long finale. This lovely effort will need a few years. VM 90-92 (1/2023): The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Village was showing a bit of reduction on the nose that made it difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, gentle grip, quite tensile with an insistent grip. I appreciate the balance and poise here. A countervailing bitter note lends tension from start to finish. Very fine. Neal Martin. |

BH 90-93 (1/2005): (from a .74 ha parcel of 35 year old vines) Stylistically, this is quite similar to the Suchots but the flavor profile delivers more size, weight, punch, power and structure with wonderfully deep, muscular and sappy flavors plus there is real lift on the notably long finish. This is reference standard stuff, particularly so for the vintage as no one makes better Malconsorts. Drink 2013+. Outstanding! VM 89+ (3/2006): Medium red. Aromas of blackberry, minerals, licorice and fresh herbs; showed a torrefaction quality as it opened in the glass. Broad, rich and chocolatey but not overly sweet, with flavors of cherry pit, cola and minerals. Conveys an impression of solid extract but comes across as rather backward and tight today, owing to its mineral component and its firm acids and tannins. |

BH 94 (1/2016): ( from a .74 ha parcel of 35+ year old vines; Cathiard noted that in 2013 he used a 30 day cuvaison.) A brooding and ultra-fresh nose exhibits notably ripe and strikingly complex aromas of dark cherry and raspberry along with violet, lilac and a gorgeous range of spice elements. This is a big and robust effort with excellent volume and mid-palate concentration that delivers plenty of punch and power on the overtly mineral-driven and hugely long finish. While this will be approachable after only 7 to 8 years it will need fully 15 to reach its full potential. Textbook Malconsorts though I stress that there is no point in buying this if you're not prepared to cellar it for at least 8 to 10 years. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! VM 92+ (3/2016): Bright, saturated medium red. Captivating nose combines deep smoky minerality and sexy soil tones. Round on entry, then quite backward in the middle and much less showy than the Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers. Today the wine's strong saline, smoky minerality is keeping the fruit in the background. Most impressive on the ripely tannic, very long finish. This will need considerable cellaring. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 92-94 (1/2023): There are only five barrels of the 2021 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts, representing around one-third of a normal crop for Cathiard. Offering up aromas of cherries, orange zest, raspberries, sweet spices and petals, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and structured, with powdery tannins and a serious, reserved profile. This is generally one of the slowest evolving wines in the cellar, and that's the case this year. BH 92-95 (1/2023): A more restrained and decidedly cooler nose reluctantly offers up its beautifully layered combination of red and blue pinot fruit, jasmine tea, violet and a hint of sandalwood. The dense, powerful and serious big-bodied flavors possess superb persistence on the balanced, compact and built-to-age finale. This is terrific and a wine that should amply reward extended keeping. VM 93-95 (1/2023): The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru takes time to really cohere on the nose, more backward than recent vintages, sultry even. This seems to lean more towards black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins. There's backbone here, assertiveness, yet without the density or opulence that has come to define Cathiard's style, so very different. This will require some time in bottle but will have much to offer. Neal MArtin. |

BH 91-93 (1/2007): A positively gorgeous mix of exuberantly spicy red and black pinot fruit aromas that offer genuinely striking purity and transparency can also be found on the rich, textured and ultra refined middle weight flavors that are balanced and possess terrific mid-palate fat that completely buffers the rather firm tannic spine. But it's the sheer complexity that really drives this to the next level and it knocks on the door of grand cru quality. In sum, this transcends its usual quality level by a fair margin and should reward up to a decade of cellar time. Outstanding! Drink 2013+. VM 90+ (4/2008): Good deep red. Smoky, ripe nose shows an almost liqueur-like quality. Fat, sweet and creamy, with superripe black cherry, raspberry and smoke flavors complicated by musky smoke and earth. Today this very rich wine comes off as chunkier than the village offering, with a bit less cut and lift. Finishes with chewy tannins and very good length. WA 89-90+ (6/2007): From 60-year-old vines high up above Echezeaux, the Cathiard 2005 Vosne-Romanee En Orveaux is the most austere wine on this occasion, with a chalky mineral character and bright but slightly tart red fruit marked by candied and caramelized inflections and a considerable evidence of new wood. Smoked meat character emerges beneath the alternating bright and caramelized black fruits in the finish. Not that this wine is entirely unimpressive - far from it - but could it just be having a bad day, I wonder? Also recommended: 2005 Bourgogne. |

BH 94 (4/2012): (the 5+ ha Clos is composed of approximately 80% Petits Epenots and 20% Grands Epenots; the vine ages run from 18 to 75+ years of age.) This is also quite ripe but agreeably fresh with pure aromas of mocha, red currant, cassis, black cherry, warm earth, violets and subtle spice hints. There is good energy to the intense and admirably rich full-bodied flavors that envelope the palate with velvety sap on the beautifully balanced and impressively persistent finish. I very much like the sense of underlying tension because despite this being a big wine with plenty of concentration, the balance is impeccable and there is absolutely nothing ponderous about this complete effort. There is a hint of backend warmth but otherwise, this is really most impressive. Note however that this very firm effort will require plenty of cellar time. Drink 2029+. Outstanding! WA 94 (4/2012): The 2009 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux is flat-out beautiful. Layers of racy, exotic fruit caress the palate as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2009 is quite typical of the year, yet possesses fabulous overall harmony. Although exuberant today, the Clos des Epeneaux will deliver tons of pleasure for many years. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. VM 93 (4/2012): (this was racked only once, a month before being bottled in June of 2011): Good bright medium red. Fresh red berries, licorice and truffle on the nose, complicated by tobacco and iron. Dense, lush and packed with fruit; really showcases the richness of a sunny year without turning heavy. Deep, saline, seamless wine, with a thick, soil-driven finish. Finishes with surprising verve. Very impressive. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 86-88 (1/2011): A fruity and very fresh nose of red berry fruit and earth nuances that carry over to the detailed, pure and vibrant middle weight flavors that possess notably better depth than is usually found at this level plus a lingering and firm finish. Lovely. (Drink starting 2013) |

VM 90 (4/2012): Bright medium red. Wild strawberry, raspberry, mocha and menthol on the full-blown but fresh nose. Silky, sweet and seriously stuffed with fruit. Dense and strong for village wine. Finishes with good juicy length. To drink or age. (Ghislaine Barthod picked early in 2009, and this village wine gives strong evidence that this strategy was a good one.) WA 88-90 (5/2011): The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny is a hugely pleasing wine laced with dark red fruit, mint, minerals and flowers, all of which come together with notable persistence. A weightless, effortless wine, the Chambolle impresses for its impeccable balance and lovely sense of harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. BH 87-90 (1/2011): (from 11 different parcels totaling 1.5 ha, scattered all around Chambolle) An ultra fresh, airy, pure and high-toned red pinot fruit nose slides gracefully into detailed and mineral-driven middle weight flavors that culminate in a dusty, mouth coating, balanced and linear finish. This is a classically styled Chambolle of finesse. Drink 2014+. |

WA 93 (4/2012): The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes impresses for its classy, elegant personality. There is an airy, weightless quality that is immensely appealing. In many ways, the Charmes sums up so much of what Burgundy is and can be. Layers of fruit literally float on the plate on the inviting finish. This is another fabulous showing. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. VM 92+ (4/2012): Medium red. Reticent nose hints at raspberry, crushed rock and menthol. Quite dry and imploded but juicy and fresh, with lively notes of red berries and olive. Much less demonstrative today than the Beaux-Bruns and more dominated by its structure. Shows good minerality for the year and finishes dry, classy and long. This tight, firmly structured wine will need at least several years of aging. BH 91-93 (1/2011): ( from a .25 ha parcel). An ultra elegant, airy and delicate red berry fruit nose leads to seductively textured middle weight flavors that display moderate amounts of minerality on the pure, long and decidedly firm finish. Like the Fuees, this is a wine of harmony and fine balance. Drink 2019+. Outstanding! |

BH 94 (1/2012): (from a .85 ha parcel). This is also exceptionally fresh and bright with relatively deeply pitched aromas of primarily red and blue pinot fruit that are in keeping with the rich and intensely mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent depth of material on the firm, long and gorgeously balanced finish. This is terrific juice though note that patience is part of the price of entry. A knockout. Drink 2019+. Outstanding! WA 94 (4/2012): The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras is loaded with class and energy. There is tremendous energy in the glass as layers of dark cherries, mint, graphite, crushed rocks, spices and licorice gain volume and breath through the mid-palate and finish. I very much like the intensity and focus here. The Cras is going to need at least another few years in bottle, but it is shaping up to be truly stellar. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. VM 93+ (4/2012): Good medium red. Aromas of musky raspberry, coffee and earth, with a note of sappy cherry emerging with air. Large-scaled and silky in texture but utterly unevolved today, coming across as dry and uncompromising. This youthfully imploded wine is distinctly linear today and will need extended aging to ripen in the bottle. Strong mineral and menthol notes carry through to the long aftertaste. An austere 2009 with substantial dusty tannins, but built for long life. |

| BH 92 (1/2012): (From a .26 ha parcel of 70+ year old vines.) An intensely floral nose with perfumed and pure aromas of red pinot fruit gives way to textured, precise, intense and quite serious flavors that are again built on a base of firm minerality, all wrapped in a dusty, intense and mouth coating finish. This does evidence a touch of austerity but there is so much sap that buffers the structure that it stops well short of being severe. I especially like the impeccable sense of balance as well as the fact that this is very fresh for the vintage. Drink 2017+. Outstanding! |

VM 93 (4/2012): The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Veroilles comes across as quite extroverted today. The focus and sheer energy of the dark fruit are what stand out most. Barthod's Veroilles has developed beautifully since I tasted it last year. (Drink between 2019-2029). Antonio Galloni. BH 93 (1/2012): Like the '09 Fuées this is exceptionally fresh for the vintage and displays cool and especially pure high-toned red pinot fruit, dried rose petals and subtle stone hints. The very rich and voluminous soil-inflected flavors finish with a linear, intense and very firm backend. This should be lovely in time though at present, it is austere as this is a very serious effort, particularly for the vintage. (Drink starting 2017). |

| BH 91-94 (5/2011): Strong reduction blocks the nose though there is plenty of energy and punch to the detailed, powerful and lightly mineral-driven flavors that possess both good size and solid weight, especially on the vibrant, balanced and seriously persistent finish. There is fine depth of material here and while this is somewhat awkward today, I see no reason why this shouldn't be excellent in time. (Drink starting 2024). |

BH 89-91 (1/2011): A perfumed and highly complex nose of very ripe earth-infused red berry fruit aromas complements the dense, mouth coating and palate staining flavors that possess outstanding length. It's rare to find a Bourgogne at this quality level, expensive or not. (Drink starting 2019). VM 87-89 (5/2011): The 2009 Bourgogne Franc de Pied is made from vineyards in Marsannay vinified with 30% whole clusters. It comes across as taut, focused and lean, with limited expressiveness in its fruit. Then again, Charlopin poured this after the Chambertin, which may not have been fair to the wine. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 93+ (3/2012): Medium red, a bit lighter than the Clos Saint-Jacques. Captivating raspberry, spice and wild herb aromas are accented by blood orange and an exotic whiff of white fruits. Wonderfully bright and intense for 2009, showing an almost saline impression of extract to the bitter cherry and mineral flavors. Much more imploded than it was from barrel, this very long, strongly mineral but slightly disjointed grand cru calls for eight to ten years of cellaring. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 91 (6/2015): A highly spiced and very Vosne nose offers up notably ripe aromas of cassis and black raspberry liqueur-like scents that display a subtle note of mocha. The very seductive, concentrated, suave and mouth coating flavors possess both excellent volume and solid mid-palate concentration before terminating in a balanced and lingering finale. This is certainly impressive in its fashion but for my taste it lacks the same vibrancy and delineation as the best of the younger vintages. (Drink starting 2019) |

BH 95 (5/2011): (from a .47 ha parcel). A ripe yet airy and fresh nose speaks of spice and pure plum aromas that display background hints of cassis and floral aromas that are followed by intense, powerful and broad-shouldered flavors that possess superb depth of material and knockout complexity on the hugely long finish. This is very serious juice that is most impressive. Drink 2024+. Don't miss! WA 92 (5/2011): The 2009 Grands-Echezeaux is an opulent, full-bodied wine for the house. This is all about texture and richness, as the fruit is very much on the overt side. It will be fascinating to see how the Grands-Echezeaux will develop in the coming years. This finishes with substantial energy and polish. The Grands-Echezeaux is all estate fruit from old vines. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. |

BH 87-90 (1/2011): A very different aromatic profile is present here with pungent Gevrey-style earth adding nuance to the pure red and dark berry fruit aromas that introduce lightly mineral-suffused middle weight flavors that are restrained and firm on the mildly austere finish that is clean and crisp with lovely balance. WA 92-95 (5/2011): The 2009 Echezeaux (from one of the cooler sites in the vineyard) hovers on the palate in a weightless expression of grace and class. It is impeccably refined from start to finish, with delicate layers of white flowers and sweet spices that add complexity and nuance to the fruit. The wine’s gorgeous inner fragrance and impossibly fine tannins are first-rate. This is another dazzling wine from Dujac. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. BH 92-94 (1/2011): (from the climat Champs Traversin). An intensely floral, spicy, earthy and ripe nose offers up a densely fruited mix of black pinot fruit, black cherry and cassis aromas. The big-bodied flavors are exceptionally cool and fresh yet the tannins are fully mature as they support and shape the restrained, minerally and impressively persistent finish. Like the Malconsorts, this will require at least 15 years to arrive at its peak. Drink 2024+. VM 91-93 (2/2011): Good deep red-ruby color. Musky black cherry, black raspberry, chocolate and underbrush on the nose. Then higher-pitched on the palate than the nose would suggest, cool and filigree in style, with limited fat (this is the lowest in alcohol of the Dujac grand crus at 12.6%). Slight gamey complexity. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and a light touch. |

BH 92-94 (1/2011): A highly spiced nose speaks of anise, clove and violet nuances on the pretty mix of blue and black pinot fruit and plum aromas. The rich, full-bodied, concentrated and powerful medium weight plus flavors possess a seductive and velvety mouth feel, all wrapped in a very firm and explosively long finish. This should be wonderful in due time though note well that this will require every bit of 15 years of cellar time. Drink 2024+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 92-95 (2/2011): Good deep red. Highly complex and expressive aromas of musky raspberry, minerals, dried flowers and bitter chocolate. A step up in intensity and inner-mouth clarity from the preceding samples, offering terrific density and thickness but also excellent lift to the cherry and raspberry fruit. This boasts an utterly seamless texture of liquid velvet. Finishes ripe and very long, with lush, virtually invisible tannins. A wine like this will be irresistible young but should also age well on its balance and concentration. (The Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux-Monts and the Charmes-Chambertin had not yet finished their malolactic fermentations.) WA 92-94 (5/2011): The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Aux Malconsorts blossoms on the palate with inimitable grace in its bright red fruit. Floral notes appear later, adding lift and volume. The Malconsorts possesses dazzling inner perfume, with clean, saline notes framing the exquisite finish. This is one of the more generous of the 1er Crus at Dujac, and always one of my personal favorites. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2034. |

Most impressive today on the extraordinary expanding, palate-staining finish, which rises to a crescendo of spices and minerals. A wine of great thrust and chewiness, this is hard to scrape off the palate. An essence of Corton grand cru. BH 93-96 (1/2011): This sports one of the ripest noses in the entire range with distinctly spicy notes adding interest to the admirably fresh plum and mocha suffused aromas that precede highly energetic, concentrated and big-bodied flavors that are extremely concentrated and the dry extract imparts a seductive texture to the mildly austere, balanced and hugely long finish. This is one of the most promising vintages of this wine that I have ever seen but note that this will definitely not be an early drinker as the supporting structure is more than simply firm. Drink 2029+. |

BH 91-93 (1/2011): This is definitely more elegant and refined than the Santenots but less complex with its essence of pure red pinot fruit and liquid stone nose where the mineral component also is fully present on the lacy, intense and vigorous flavors that culminate in a linear, focused and superbly long finish. A wine of finesse but one with excellent flavor authority. Drink 2017+. Outstanding! VM 90-92 (2/2011): Deep red. Very ripe aromas of raspberry, mocha and flowers. Sweet, broad and deep, with captivating flavors of raspberry, spice and underbrush. Nicely balanced wine with a subtle, rising finish featuring fine tannins. This was to have been bottled in December. |

| VM 89 (5/2011): The 2009 Vosne-Romanée Petits Monts is soft and sumptuous in this vintage. Most of the wine's appeal is immediate, as the intensity drops off markedly on the mid-palate and finish. This is quite a bit less interesting and complex than the best 2009s here. (Drink between 2017-2027). Antonio Galloni. |

| BH 94 (4/2012): ( from a large 1.74 ha parcel.) Discreet wood is almost lost on the densely fruited, closed and brooding nose of ripe red berry fruit liqueur, warm earth and anise. There is excellent freshness and verve to the big-bodied and concentrated flavors that despite the impressive size and weight are shaped by compact but refined tannins on the explosively long finish. This exceptionally promising effort is beautifully well-balanced and unapologetically built for the long-term. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! |

BH 95 (1/2012): (50+ year old vines). A discreet touch of wood spice adds aromatic breadth to the earthy and reserved red berry fruit nose that also offers up a suggestion of the sauvage that carries over to the rich, powerful and admirably concentrated big-bodied flavors that culminate in an impressively long, energetic and youthfully austere finish. This is a big and muscular but not rustic example that will require plenty of cellar time. Drink 2024+. WA 94+ (4/2012): The Clos de Vougeot is gorgeous in 2009. This is an especially dark, brooding Clos Vougeot. Dark red cherries, plums, tar and licorice are some of the many notes that take shape in this explosive, beguiling Burgundy. The sheer energy and drive make the Clos Vougeot a standout. Graphite, mint and licorice linger on the pointed, focused finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. VM 95 (4/2012): Bright medium red. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, licorice and minerals. Seamless, sappy and explosive on the palate, conveying an impression of silkiness without weight. Really explosive mouthfilling perfume here, even if there's plenty in reserve for a long and positive evolution in bottle. The wonderfully fresh, mounting finish features substantial dusty tannins and resounding black cherry and dark chocolate flavors. "The 2009s are to drink anytime," noted Grivot. "Even this Clos Vougeot would be great with grilled beef now." A great vintage for this bottling, which is partly from vines located in the so-so northeast corner of this vineyard. |

BH 95 (1/2012): (from the climat of Les Cruots, also known as Vignes Blanches). An exuberantly spicy nose of wonderfully seductive black fruit liqueur aromas leads to rich, suave, pure and dense flavors that are a highly beguiling blend of finesse and power, all wrapped in a robust yet finely detailed finish of stunning length. This is one of the very best examples of the appellation in 2009. Drink 2024+. WA 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Echezeaux is pure silk. Black cherries, spices, licorice and tar are all woven together in a fabric of nearly indescribable elegance. All the elements fall into place as the Echezeaux captivates both the intellectual and hedonistic senses. This is a wine that impresses for its understated elegance. Readers won’t fine the drive of the Clos de Vougeot or the structure of the Richebourg. Instead, the Echezeaux possesses stunning textural finesse and phenomenal balance. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. VM 93+ (4/2012): Good deep, bright red. Very reduced nose is currently blocking the wine's primary fruits. Fatter but initially less sweet than the Clos de Vouget, with a bit of leathery funk to its dark berry, earth and iodine flavors. Began quite unforthcoming if rather suave, but gained significantly in sweetness and thickness with aeration. This will need at least seven or eight years of bottle aging or a lot of time in a decanter. Grivot believes that the very dense cork he used to seal this wine is largely responsible for its reductive character. |

BH 92-95 (1/2011): Moderate reduction blocks an evaluation of the nose but the ripe, rich, generous and fleshy medium-bodied flavors are pure silk and velvet on the lacy and stunningly long finish. This is easily the most seductive wine in the range yet the buried tannins will permit this to have a long life. In short, this is a textbook Suchots. (Drink starting 2021). VM 92-95 (5/2011): The 2009 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots is likely to require considerable patience. A dark core of introspective fruit occasionally emerges, but this remains reticent and inward. The wine will not come to the taster, rather readers will have to seek out the qualities that lie within this superbly pedigreed, exceptional wine. The finish is long, weightless and totally divine. (Drink between 2019-2034). Antonio Galloni. |

WA 94 (4/2012): The 2009 Clos de Vougeot-Musigny is a beautifully centered wine that expresses the personality of the vintage while retaining plenty of freshness. An exotic concoction of racy, floral-infused raspberries, spices, mint, rose petals and hard candy emerges from this seductive, alluring Burgundy. This is a flamboyant wine full of intrigue for the future. The open, radiant finish is backed up by plenty of energy. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. BH 91-93 (1/2011): ( from a 1.5 ha parcel that was replanted sequentially - 1985, 1988 and 1989; the wine carries the qualifier of Musigni because it comes from a parcel of vines at the top of Clos de Vougeot, directly across from the vineyard of Musigny). Here the less obviously oaked nose runs more toward the red side of the fruit spectrum before merging into rich and seductively textured broad-shouldered flavors that are also blessed with ample amounts of dry extract that renders the supporting tannins almost invisible on the detailed, youthfully austere and solidly persistent finish. BH 94 (1/2012): (from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Meo-Camuzet vines). A moderately floral nose speaks of wood spice, pungent earth and freshly crushed red currant aromas that precede the big-bodied and powerful flavors that possess real verve on the well-defined, intense and balanced finish. This genuinely wonderful effort is relatively fine for a Clos de Vougeot and there is less youthful austerity than is typical. Drink 2021+. WA 91 (5/2011): The 2009 Clos de Vougeot is impressive. Fresh, floral aromatics meld into a core of silky red fruit. The Clos de Vougeot tannins are there, but beautifully balanced by the textured, persistent fruit. The finish is feminine, persistent and impeccable in its elegance. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. VM 89 (4/2012): Medium red. Reticent aromas of diffuse red fruits, brown spices and smoky minerality. Brighter in the mouth, with a saline quality to the slightly medicinal flavors of red cherry, strawberry and dried flowers. Not a particularly opulent or fleshy style. Finishes with an edge of acidity and a note of fresh herbs. |

VM 96+ (4/2012): Bright medium red. Knockout soil-driven nose combines red cherry, cocoa powder, brown spices, dried flowers, lavender and minerals. The palate offers compelling high-pitched flavors of red fruits and flowers complemented by strong saline soil tones. Conveys a powerful impression of extract without any fat. This youthfully imploded wine magically combines power and finesse, finishing with Outstanding sappiness and thrust. It was hard to scrape this off my palate--not that I tried. WA 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Chambertin-Clos de Beze is unusually open and seductive. It flows with extraordinary finesse and pure elegance. White floral notes, cassis and spices wrap around the palate, adding tons of nuance. The firm tannins don’t quite allow the fruit to be fully expressive, but all that is needed here is time. BH 93-95 (5/2011): A strikingly complex nose features an intense spiciness to the otherwise ripe, elegant and nuanced red berry liqueur aromas that are in keeping with the equally spicy and intense broad-shouldered and tautly muscular flavors, all wrapped in a mouth coating and very firm finish that delivers stunning persistence. I like the underlying sense of tension that adds vibrancy to the moderately austere and mineral-driven finale. This should be excellent in time. Drink 2024+. |

BH 90-93 (5/2011): This is one of the few wines to display noticeable reduction and it's enough to knock down the nose though my score assumes that this will be corrected before it is bottled. There is good richness and vibrancy to the solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract though the palate impression of the finish is still quite firm, all wrapped in a backend that delivers excellent persistence. This is a bit more rough and tumble than one typically sees from a classic Griotte though it does not display any overt rusticity. Drink 2024+. VM 90-92 (5/2011): The 2009 Griotte-Chambertin is sweet, sensual and inviting. Deceptively medium in body, the wine shows plenty of density. Flowers, cinnamon and menthol emerge in the glass as this sensual wine flows through to the finish. There is just a hint of rusticity on the close; otherwise, this is a fine, generous Burgundy. BH 95 (4/2012): The wondrous complexity of the aromas is genuinely remarkable with its ultra-fresh, ripe and airy red berry fruit, stone, earth and spice scents. Moreover, this impressive depth continues onto the rich, full-bodied and very serious big-bodied flavors that ooze dry extract on the concentrated, intense and vibrant finish that seems to go on and on. I very much like the balance and while this is certainly extremely rich and ripe, there is absolutely no sense of heaviness or undue weightiness. This explosive effort should be magnificent in time. Outstanding! Drink: 2024+ WA 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Volnay Clos de Chene is a model of elegance. Weightless, pure and elegant, it succeeds in conveying notable flavor intensity with no sense of heaviness, something only Pinot Noir is capable of doing to this degree. The fresh, vibrant finish suggests the wine has many days of fine drinking ahead. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. VM 91+ (4/2012): Good full red. Reticent nose hints at medicinal black cherry, blackberry and licorice; smells much tougher than the Clos des Ducs. Densely packed but quite tight (is this already shutting down?), with the medicinal character carrying through onto the palate. Compared to the Clos des Ducs, this wine shows a darker fruit character and no easy sweetness today. The tannins arrive late, then build. Lafarge continues to compare the 2009s to past years like 1985, 1966 and 1964. He noted that the '09s "gained in harmony and complexity during their last months of elevage." |

BH 94 (4/2012): This is aromatically a bit less elegant than the Mitans but it is more complex with cool red and blue pinot fruit, violet, earth and stone nuances introducing attractively rich and equally pure middle weight flavors that exhibit real verve on the mouth coating and exceptionally persistent finish. As usual, this is a classic Volnay that is built to age and will need every bit of 12 to 15 years to be at its best. In short, this is a knockout. Outstanding! Drink: 2021+. WA 93-95 (5/2011): The estate’s 2009 Volnay Clos du Chateau des Ducs saturates the palate with its deep, persistent fruit. The aromas and flavors build in the glass towards the rich, multi-dimensional finish. This shows marvelous staying power and fabulous overall balance. The Clos du Chateau des Ducs is more overtly fruit-driven and structured but perhaps a touch less aromatically expressive than the Mitans. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. VM 92 (4/2012): Rather pale red. Highly aromatic, expressive scents of redcurrant, cherry, spices and flowers. Wonderfully suave and fine-grained, in the typically feminine style of this wine--and classic Volnay. Lovely pliant red fruit and licorice flavors saturate the mouth, with a saline element adding interest on the long finish. Shows an attractive light touch and supple tannins. An intensely floral and spicy nose that is wonderfully elegant and admirably pure speaks of red currant, blue berry, game, smoke and warm earth. The silky-textured, precise and mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors possess copious extract that does a fine job of buffering the very firm tannins and allowing for perfect balance on the mouth coating and impressively persistent finish. WA 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Echezeaux is all about understated elegance. There is plenty of energy in the glass, but the 2009 is quite minimalistic at this stage. Today the wine is compact and closed in on itself, which is not at all a bad thing for readers rightly planning to let the wine develop in bottle. I very much like the focus and sheer power of the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. VM 94 (4/2012): Medium red. Aromas of wild red berries, mocha, tobacco and underbrush. Creamy-ripe and voluptuous, with just enough acidity to give shape to the red fruit, coffee and mineral flavors. This saturates every square millimeter of the palate and finishes with explosive, building length, with the tannins buried under a wave of fruit. Should evolve in bottle for a long time. BH 94 (1/2012): (from a .6 ha parcel situated two-thirds in Cruots and the rest in Champs Traversin.) An exuberantly spicy and very ripe black fruit and cassis nose that remains admirably and attractively fresh merges into textured, supple and utterly delicious flavors brimming with ample amounts of dry extract that add to the seductive mouth feel on the strikingly complex and marvelously long finish. This is a terrific example of the appellation and will drink well young yet be fully capable of improving for at least 15 years. Drink from 2026+. |

BH 94-97 (1/2011): (from a .37 ha parcel in Les Veroilles of 40+ year old vines save for a very tiny parcel in Richebourg proper). This is ripe yet even more restrained, indeed to the point of reticence though aggressive swirling liberates the blackberry and cassis-infused nose that also possesses a huge array of spice and mineral nuances. The big-bodied, concentrated, intense and superbly powerful flavors are underpinned by very firm tannins that are rugged and robust though not rustic, all wrapped in a youthfully austere finish with plenty of underlying tension as you can really sense the energy here. This should be fantastic in time though note that plenty of time will definitely be required. Drink 2029+. Don't miss! WA 91-94 (5/2011): The 2009 Richebourg is a rather subtle wine for this site. It shows good intensity in its dark red fruit, minerals and flowers. The finish is exceptionally long and elegant, which hints at the wine’s promise. Today the Richebourg is holding back much of its potential, but it looks to be a relatively feminine Burgundy from this vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. | BH 91-94 (1/2011): (from vines adjacent to those of Domaine de la Romanee Conti in Richebourg proper totaling .31 ha; 80% whole cluster vinification). A notably floral, spicy and very cool nose is trimmed in noticeable but reasonable wood and leads to very rich, round and velvety big-bodied and powerful flavors that culminate in a moderately oaked but strikingly long finish. Again, the oak is not subtle on the palate but there appears to be more than enough concentration to handle it. Drink 2024+. |

BH 91-93 (5/2011): Like the Taillepieds, this is also highly perfumed with rose petal, fresh red berries, wet stone and an earthy component that can also be found on the equally mineral-inflected, cool and pure flavors that evidence excellent detail and real verve on the delicious, intense and persistent finish. A lovely and understated Pommard of finesse. Drink 2019+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 93 (4/2012): The 2009 Pommard Les Pezerolles is rich, round and seductive. Layers of fruit caress the palate in this enveloping, textured Burgundy. There is plenty of intensity in the glass. Hints of hard candy and licorice wrap around the finish. The Pezerolles was made with 100% destemmed fruit. Although I like the wine’s frank immediacy, I also think it will age gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. VM 91 (4/2012): (from all-destemmed fruit): Medium red. Flamboyantly aromatic nose combines kirsch, strawberry, smoke, leather and earth. Silky, sweet and pliant; can't quite match the Mitans for definition but an element of minerality provides energy. Finishes suave and persistent, with smooth tannins and moderate lift. |

BH 98 (1/2012): As brilliant the nose of the Amoureuses might be, this ups the ante considerably as this offers fireworks in a glass with its positively kaleidoscopic array of spice, violets and ripe fruit elements that if anything are even fresher. The rich, dense and overtly powerful broad-scaled flavors possess a tight muscularity yet remain elegant and refined with a linear, palate staining and explosive backend that delivers simply huge length. An incredible effort that should live for a very long time indeed. The word fabulous does not do this monument in the making complete justice. Drink 2029+. WA 98 (4/2012): The 2009 Musigny is a huge, structured wine within the context of the domaine. Big, tannins support a highly expressive core of dark fruit, smoke and licorice. This is a decidedly powerful, almost extreme style of Musigny that will require considerable patience to settle down. An explosive, mineral-drenched finish lingers on the palate. The 2009 is flat-out dazzling. Wow. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. VM 93-95 (2/2011): Good deep red. Very dark, complex aromas of blackberry, violet and licorice, lifted by a peppery nuance; slightly liqueur-like. Then powerful and large-scaled, with confectionery dark berry and pepper flavors saturating the entire mouth. With so much baby fat here, I don't yet find a great deal of detail. Mugnier notes that this is 14.5% alcohol. |

BH 92 (6/2012): I clearly misjudged this because while this is slightly riper than its 2010 counterpart with its mildly exotic yellow fruit aromas of honey, straw, peach and mango, there is genuinely excellent depth to the textured and opulent middle weight flavors that really coat the palate with dry extract. But it's the impressive length that really sets this apart from the 2010 because while this is a powerful vintage for the Clos de la Marechale, it is the moderately firm acid spine that shapes the finish and imparts a real sense of focus. Drink 2014+. Outstanding! WA 92 (4/2012): The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Clos de la Marechale shows the more virile side of Pinot. Black cherries smoke, tar and licorice all come to life in this intense, broad-shouldered wine. Layers of fruit build to the muscular, virile finish. The wine’s masculine personality is quite a contrast to the seductiveness of Mugnier’s other 2009s. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. VM 89-92 (2/2011): Good deep red-ruby. Blackberry liqueur, minerals and crushed stone on the nose, along with an earthy nuance. Large-scaled, lush and sweet, with a creamy, chocolatey flavor saturating the palate. This big, slightly rough wine benefits from its substantial tannins, which help to balance the sweetness of the alcohol. The pHs of these grapes was the highest to date, noted Mugnier, but as there was so little malic acidity, the post-ML pH is now just a bit higher than average. Mugnier told me there would probably be no Clos des Forches bottling, as he needed to include some of the less-ripe juice in the Clos de la Marechale. (Incidentally, the very promising 2009 Marechale blanc, which had been racked into stainless steel tank in September and will be bottled in January, was dry, powerful, complex and gripping, with excellent energy and acidity for the vintage.) |

| BH 92-94 (5/2011): (two-thirds of the vines are between 70 and 80 years of age and the remaining vines are approximately 20+ years old.) This is perhaps the ripest wine in the range with a liqueur-like nose of black cherry, earth and underbrush hints that introduce rich, serious and concentrated flavors that possess an abundance of mid-palate extract as it almost completely buffers the otherwise very firm tannic spine, all wrapped in a palate staining finish. This stunning effort should reward at least a dozen years in the cellar and drink well for another decade thereafter. Drink 2021+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

BH 91-93 (1/2011): A wonderfully elegant nose of notably ripe red cherry liqueur cut with wet stone and warm earth notes that can also be found on the utterly delicious, concentrated and sappy middle weight flavors that possess excellent depth on the balanced and strikingly persistent finish. Like the Cuvee des Alouettes, I can't ever remember seeing a better vintage for this wine at this early stage. Drink 2017+. Outstanding! WA 90-92 (5/2011): The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes is an immediate wine. The aromatics alone are beautifully open and expressive. BH 96-98 (1/2011): (the aggregate size of this holding is a whopping 3.4 ha and Ponsot is easily the largest holder in Clos de la Roche). This, along with the Clos St. Denis, is the most complete wine in the range with mild reduction that isn't strong enough to completely block the spice, earth and game infused nose that introduces strikingly rich, naturally sweet and mouth coating flavors that explode on the formidably long finish. This is a classy wine with absolutely superb complexity, impeccable balance and almost uncanny presence, all delivered with grace and power. Be prepared to be patient however as this will need plenty of time. A 'wow' wine. Drink 2029+. WA 94-97 (5/2011): The 2009 Clos de la Roche Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is round, sweet and totally enveloping. WA 94 (5/2011): The 2009 Volnay En Caillerets bursts from the glass with a huge, explosive bouquet. Blackberries, blueberries, hard candy and spices are just a few of the notes that emerge from this layered, intense Burgundy. There is plenty of inner tension here, in fact the Caillerets appears to be holding back a lot of its potential. It is a dazzling wine though, and one built for the long haul. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2049. BH 92 (5/2011): A discreet touch of wood frames notably elegant aromas of plum, violets and stone where the latter element also suffuses the rich, fleshy and delicious middle weight flavors that possess an abundance of dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannins on the impressively persistent finish. This should be lovely in time. Drink 2017+. Outstanding! VM 91 (4/2012): Bright fresh ruby. Aromas of cassis, mint and game, along with a liqueur-like note of black cherry. Sweet and concentrated, round and full. Wonderfully ripe without being roasted, with an element of sweetness giving this wine considerable early appeal. Substantial sweet tannins are buried under the wine's fruit today on the long finish. |

| BH 93-95 (5/2011): ( from a .77 ha parcel in the sub-climat Combe d'Orveau.) Very mild reduction reduces the expressiveness of the nose yet it is still relatively easy to discern that the dark berry fruit is ripe and nuanced by plenty of spice notes that can also be found on the rich and palate staining velvety flavors that possess imposing size and weight as well as a seemingly endless reserve of dry extract that buffers the firm tannic spine on the wonderfully long finish. This is a big yet balanced wine that possesses excellent energy with plenty of underlying tension and about the only nit is a hint of warmth on the powerful and driving finish. This should be most impressive in time if you have the patience to wait. Drink 2026+. |

| VM 94+ (4/2012): Good deep red. Very ripe aromas of cherries macerated in alcohol, mocha and wild herbs. Generous, pliant and highly concentrated, with lovely floral, mineral and minty high notes lifting the ripe cherry fruit. Finishes tactile, chewy and very long, with noble, sweet tannins and hints of game and menthol. These vines date back to 1885, but Philippe Roty is quick to point out that there has been a lot of repiquage (replanting of individual vines as they die) along the way. I would not be surprised if this wine merited a higher score 10 or 15 years down the road. |

| BH 93 (1/2012): ( from 55+ year old vines totaling .29 ha with .125 ha in Charmes and the other .165 ha in Mazoyères.) A highly expressive and quite densely fruited nose features aromas of red berry liqueur, earth and underbrush. Similarly, there is plenty of substance to the big, rich and generous broad-shouldered flavors that possess Outstanding depth of material, indeed there is so much sap that the very firm tannic spine is presently almost invisible on the textured, balanced and superbly long finish. Somewhat curiously for such a big wine, this will be approachable young due to the abundance of sap but should age brilliantly well. I should note that normally this is easily the most complex wine in the Serafin range but while this is certainly blessed with the most underlying material, for the moment it displays no more overall complexity than does the Cazetiers. It very well may in time and if so my score will be quite rightly viewed as overly conservative. Drink 2024+. |

| BH 95 (1/2012): A ripe yet restrained, cool and surprisingly airy given the nature of the vintage displays a highly complex nose of red currant, blue berry, dark berries and ample minerality that continues onto the relatively accessible medium weight plus flavors that possess a plenitude of mouth coating dry extract. This is gorgeously, indeed almost painfully intense with explosive power to the austere and driving finish. This does a slow but inexorable build from the mid-palate and despite all of the muscle, this is actually a wine of balance and refinement. Most impressive. |

BH 93 (1/2012): Trapet indicated that he used 50% whole clusters in the vinification. This is also very fresh with a highly floral nose of notably ripe and perfumed red berry fruit, earth and stone scents. There is good punch to the robust and well-detailed, flavors that are not as refined but possess more power and a bit more length as well. This very serious effort is most impressive. (Drink starting 2019). VM 92 (5/2011): The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Capita is a blend of five 1er Cru sites; Petite Chapelle, En Ergot, Clos Prieur, Corbeaux and Combottes. It is a multi-dimensional, totally expressive wine that blossoms beautifully on the palate, showing gorgeous richness but no heaviness whatsoever – one of the most magical attributes of Pinot Noir. The fruit is rich, round and caressing all the way through to the sensual finish. The Capita shows tons of persistence and fabulous overall balance. Trapet used 60% whole clusters here. BH 96 (1/2012): (From 3 different parcels that total 2 ha.) A relatively high-toned nose that is cool, restrained and notably more floral offers up notes of stone, game, underbrush, humus and a noble vegetal note on the red cherry and cassis suffused nose. The intensely mineral-driven and vibrant flavors possess real muscle and drive continue onto the very firm, palate staining and youthfully austere finish. Like the Latricières, this fantastic effort will best suit the patient as this is very unlikely to develop quickly. In short, this is a knockout. Drink 2024+. WA 96 (5/2011): The 2009 Chambertin shows some of the openness of the Chapelle but the structural elements more closely resemble the Latricieres. If that sounds appealing, believe me, it is. Trapet’s Chambertin exudes class and pedigree in its impeccable layered fruit, gorgeous detail and silky, textured finish. Striking, beautifully delineated aromatics are woven throughout. Simply put, the Chambertin is a must-have wine in this vintage. In 2009 the Chambertin was made with 40% whole clusters, slightly more than normal. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2049. VM 96+ (3/2012): (50% new oak, the same as the Chapelle-Chambertin): Good medium red. Wonderfully complex, high-pitched nose combines musky raspberry, strong minerality, lavender and wild herbs; soil-driven but not earthy. Like liquid silk on entry, then sappy and imploded in the mouth, with complex soil hints, no hard edges and a wonderfully light touch for such a seamless wine. Less high-pitched than the nose suggests, but this amazingly fine-grained Chambertin is lifted and framed by superb mineral energy. Really explodes with aeration, finishing with noble tannins and a powerful impression of terroir. This should evolve in bottle for decades. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 97 (4/2012): The 2009 Musigny Vieilles Vignes fleshes out beautifully with endless layers of fruit that caress the palate in stunning style. Sweet floral notes meld into expressive dark red fruit in this mysterious, evocative Burgundy. There is a weightless intensity to the Musigny that is achingly gorgeous. BH 96 (1/2012): A fantastically complex nose offers up aromas of rose petals, violets, mint, cassis, black berry and a plethora of spice nuances that continue onto the intense and remarkably powerful imposingly constructed flavors that are blessed with buckets of dry extract that render the presently rigid tannic spine almost invisible on the impeccably and palate staining finish that seems to persist without end. As was the case from cask, I could still taste this several hours later and if given sufficient cellar time, this should be a very fine vintage for this storied wine. Drink 2029+. VM 95+ (4/2012): Good bright, deep red. Raspberry liqueur, crushed rock and vanillin oak on the suave, subdued nose; shows the greatest lift of these 2009s. Superconcentrated and creamy but light on its feet, displaying terrific energy and sappiness for 2009. Gained in verve with aeration, with high-pitched, tangy flavors of raspberry, pomegranate, flowers and minerals spreading out to saturate the mouth. With its finishing perfume and taste of limestone, this really transcends the vintage. |

| WA 95 (10/2009): Donnhoff's 2007 Niederhauser Hermannshohle Riesling Auslese leads with an unusually floral aromatic display, and the palate impression is so honeyed you'd think it were Bienenauslese (selected by bees). There is remarkable density here, with site-typical layering of flowers, orchard fruits, citrus, berries, along with smoky, peat-like, stony mineral suggestions that become more prominent as the wine takes on air. The finish is almost luxuriantly rich by Hermannshohle standards. But I am sure this wine will find more to say with time and not fall silent for 30 years or more. |

VM 94 (2/2012): Rich golden yellow. Luscious aromas of candied pineapple, lemon oil and acacia honey on a bed of smoky botrytis. WA 93 (12/2011): Smoky black tea wafts over quince preserves and almost overripe pear on the nose and the glossy, subtly creamy, yet bright palate of Donnhoff's 2010 Niederhauser Hermannshohle Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule. Nut paste and a savory smoked meat dimension contribute complexity to this lusciously lingering Auslese, but one that " like its Brucke counterpart' does not capture the dynamic spirit of the 2010 vintage to quite the extent of its Spatlese siblings, and would benefit (might well, in time) from a bit more focus. Still, this will impress regardless for at least two decades. |

| VM 95 (6/2020): Like its Brücke counterpart, this Auslese reflects genuinely botrytis-free grapes, said Dönnhoff, but ones that were too numerous and too high in sugar to use elsewhere, “and certainly not in the Grosses Gewächs, which would then have ended up with 14% alcohol.” Sea breeze on the nose intimates the sweet-saline savor of raw scallop that emerges on this wine’s lusciously lingering, mouthwateringly umami-rich finish. White peach and quince preserves feature throughout, reinforced on the soothingly creamy palate by nougat-like nut essences. There is an animating, juicy fresh-fruit aspect as well, and a wonderful sense of both focus and transparency to stony and ore-like nuances. (Drink between 2020-2050). Dvid Schildknecht. |

WA 96 (10/2009): Gardenia, peony, and resinous herbs in the nose of Donnhoff's 2007 Niederhauser Hermannshohle Riesling Spatlese give way to a palpably extract-rich palate of vibratory intensity, suffused with stony, saline, and tactile suggestions of mineral matter, yet at the same time rich orchard fruits. If the Krotenpfuhl was painted with water colors, the medium here is definitely oil, exhibiting both dynamic and intricate brush work as well as dense layering. This masterpiece - picked simultaneously with the corresponding Grosses Gewachs - was only beginning to show its depth in the spring and needed almost six months in bottle to really shine forth. Take as long as fate permits you to savor this; I can't imagine it disappointing a quarter century or more from now. VM 93+ (2/2009): Tantalizing aromas of papaya, sweet herbs and incense. Discreet but intense black cherry fruit rises from the mid-palate, accompanied by brilliant acidity. Animated and finely spiced, with a deep, long finish. I may be underrating this. |

| WA 93 (1/2015): Only made in vintages with a high ripeness (a pre-selection of the GG) the 2013 Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Auslese offers ripe and shortly cooked apple as well as pineapple aromas along with some volcanic rocks on the nose leading to a sweet, rich and piquant Riesling which shows its great talents not before the finish which is pure and salty but again sweet and sensual. The finish displays citric flavors and black bread but there is no heaviness or botrytis opulence at all in this wine. |

WA 98 (9/2009): Incredible nose of candied orange peel, preserved ginger and honeysuckle with a touch of wet pebbles. The palate is packed with minerals and spiced fruits. A high level of lively acidity perfectly balances the seductive sweetness. Very long, minerally finish. VM 94 (2/2009): Rich golden yellow. Passion fruit, a floral nuance and a bit of licorice on the nose. Pineapple and honey give way to brisk spicy acidity on the palate. A well-balanced, vivid auslese that finishes smoky and long, with an almost salty minerality. |

| WA 94 (12/2011): Picked-out, like its Hermannshohle counterpart, in the last, early-November days of harvest, Donnhoff's 2010 Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Auslese gold capsule was, he estimates, "perhaps 50% affected by botrytis, and dry botrytis, no mere rot." Candied lime rind and marzipan; lily and honeysuckle; white peach and salted caramel inform this wine's haunting nose and rich yet buoyant palate, with the mouthwatering savor that characterized the corresponding Spatlese undiminished. This needs some time in bottle to better focus, and it will be interesting to see whether it develops more sense of cut and brightness. But it's already irresistible, and almost sure to prove worth following for a quarter century or more. |

| WA 94+ (1/2015): The 2013 Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Auslese has a very clear and precise bouquet of slightly cooked apples and lemons. | WA 96 (2/2013): High-toned, distillate-like herbal extracts along with ripe fresh strawberry, apple and quince inform the scintillating nose and electrical charged palate of Donnhoff’s 2011 Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Spatlese. “We were able to just keep waiting on this site," he explains, “so that even this lightest wine from the Brucke was picked only in the last days of (regular) harvest." Hints of pits and seed, along with black tea, nut oils, zesty citrus, and myriad mineral impingements add to a sense of quickening that goes well beyond mere invigoration in this gem’s strikingly persistent, shimmeringly vibrant finish. I was left with salivary glands palpitating and arms covered in gooseflesh. It will probably be hard to resist such a wine at any point over the next quarter century, but those with the requisite remaining life expectancy should make an effort to defer for the duration the pleasure of at least the last bottle or two. |

WA 99 (10/2009): The over-ripe pear and quince featured in other nobly sweet wines of this collection are very much present in Donnhoff's 2007 Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Beerenauslese, along with aromas of distilled gentian, gardenia, lemon oil, freshly baked bread, and white truffle. The intensity of inner-mouth perfume here - orchard fruit, floral, and herbal distillates - is nearly beyond belief. Pear nectar, quince preserves, apple jelly, liquid gardenia, brown spices, and a certain saline and smoky suggestions of things mineral inform a finish of trance-inducing duration. This amazing elixir - harvested largely in the Turmchen section of the site - should be worthy of 40 years cellaring. When Donnhoff laughingly referred to this as the year of Felsenberg, he was not in fact kidding, nor was he referring just to the sheer number of bottlings! VM 97 (1/2009): Rich golden yellow. Sublime aromas of candied citrus fruits, lemon oil and acacia honey. The succulent weight of papaya fruit levitates over the wine's understated minerality. The palate-staining finish boasts an impeccable balance of creamy fruit, smoky botrytis and herbal spices. An Outstanding effort for the vintage! |
