| BH 90-92 (4/2018): Today there is enough reduction to push the underlying fruit to the background. Otherwise the middle weight flavors possess a similar mouth feel to the Taillepieds with fine delineation and more subtle minerality on the mildly austere finish that flashes a hint of dryness though I doubt that it will last. Drink 2026+. |

|
| |
VM 88-91 (3/2006): Medium red. Smoky red fruits and underbrush on the nose. Fat, full and sweet, with flavors of redcurrant and plum. Not more concentrated than the Mitans but possesses a bit more mineral spine. Slightly sauvage suggestions of leather and game. Stephen Tanzer. BH 87-89 (5/2006): A very gentle touch of wood frames ripe red pinot fruit, earth and background notes of iron and underbrush that introduce very ripe, round and rich medium full flavors that offer good vivacity and punch on the moderately long finish. The tannins do not have a high degree of phenolic ripeness yet there is no trace of astringency or undue dryness. (Drink starting 2010). |

BH 91-94 (4/2017): This is also appealingly elegant with its pretty liqueur-like red pinot fruit, spice, sandalwood and subtle earth scents. The mouth feel of the slightly bigger and richer flavors remains refined, lacy and focused with a lovely sense of underlying tension that continues onto the markedly firmer finish. Lovely. VM 92-94 (1/2017): Good dark red. Subdued but precise aromas of raspberry, cherry and flowers. Compellingly intense and lively in the mouth, offering terrific juicy cut to its red fruit and mineral flavors. This beauty boasts a firm spine of acidity and finishes with lovely ripeness and lingering perfume. Stephen Tanzer. WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Champans has a very pure, very attractive bouquet with mineral-tinged red cherry and cranberry fruit that is equidistant in style between Pommard and Volnay. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. I love the tension here, that nascent energy and salinity towards the finish that actually does veer towards Pommard in terms of structure. Excellent. |

VM 87-90 (3/2006): Medium red. Deeply pitched aromas of cherry, chocolate and underbrush, with a faint peppery nuance. Fat, thick and sweet, with some superripe suggestions to the flavors of plum, redcurrant, raspberry and spices, but also a lightly herbal quality. Impressively round wine with terrific stuffing. Not hugely vibrant but undeniably fat and round, finishing with lush tannins and a note of underbrush. These degenerating vines produced fruit with 15% potential alcohol. This will give pleasure early. Stephen Tanzer. BH 86-88 (5/2006): A beautifully complex and obvious ripe nose of high-toned red berry fruit infused with obvious minerality merges into earthy, floral and raspberry liqueur-like flavors underpinned by firm and slightly dry tannins that are not quite as ripe. This would probably benefit from being fined. (Drink starting 2009). |

VM 91-94 (4/2009): (vinified entirely with whole clusters) Very good deep red. Captivating rose petal perfume. Sappy and vibrant, with an urgent quality to the berry, cherry, mineral and pepper flavors; showing a lovely restrained sweetness. Almost painfully intense today, and extremely primary. Finishes quite broad, with palate-staining perfume. At a modest 12.4% alcohol, this beautifully balanced wine boasts terrific intensity and plenty of density. Here's an example of a 2007 here that may top the 2005 version. BH 90-92 (4/2007): (26 year old vines). A reserved, indeed almost discreet nose of airy, refined and very pure mineral-infused red pinot fruit complements to perfection the equally pure, intense and wonderfully focused middle weight flavors that almost dance across the palate as they're silky and graceful yet possessed with superb punch. This is a classic Volnay that carries Outstanding flavor authority with no apparent weight. This could easily surprise to the upside as everything it needs for long evolution is here. Drink 2013+. WA 89-90 (6/2007): The de Montille 2005 Volnay Mitans displays a lovely nose of ripe cherry and flowers with an iodine mineral-medicinal note that, together with fruit skin tartness, follows on a highly-concentrated, impressively-layered, finely-tannic palate, with raw meat, floral and mineral suggestions dominating over any sweetness of fruit. The tightly wound finish here is smoky, pungent and subtly bitter. In two or three years one would be able to glean a clearer notion of this wine’s ultimate personality. |

| BH 89-92 (4/2016): In the same fashion as the Perrières there is quite a bit of wood and menthol character surrounding the otherwise fresh and pretty aromas of plum, spice and floral-scented nose. The intense and highly energetic middle weight flavors possess a discreet minerality and really lovely detail before culminating in a firm and mildly austere finish. This is a classic Mitans of delicacy and harmony. |

| VM 94 (1/2018): (100% vendange entier; one-third new oak): Healthy dark red. Complex but reticent aromas of kirsch and blueberry lifted by a floral quality. A bit youthfully withdrawn but lively and polished in the mouth, with a floral perfume that's rare for this drought year. Wonderfully classy, refined Volnay with outstanding subtle sweetness and energy and a very long finish featuring utterly suave tannins. A great young Volnay in the making. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 94+ (1/2018): (100% vendange entier; 60% new oak): Good medium red; not particularly dark. Subtle medicinal reserve to the aromas of black cherry and cocoa powder enlivened by a floral topnote. Boasts outstanding density and finesse of texture--no rough edges here!--but still quite tightly wound and in a shell today. Youthfully restrained but the exhilarating balance between almost inky dark fruits and saline minerality is already obvious. This wine has the concentration and tannic clout for the long term but will need extended cellaring to deliver on its full potential; at that point, it should merit an even higher rating. For his part, Brian Sieve believes this fruit was harvested a bit later than ideal (on September 6). Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 93-95 (4/2021): This is also quite firmly reduced and revealing nothing at present. On the palate though the slightly bigger flavors possess only a bit more volume but notably more power and particularly so on the even longer though not necessarily more complex finale. This is very classy juice with that sense of poise that all great wines seem to have. Very promising. |

WA 91-93 (12/2014): The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets has a more limestone-scented bouquet, the fruit a little redder than that of Fremiets, opening with wilted rose-petal scents infusing the strawberry and red currant aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with a little more flesh than the aforementioned premier cru, but maintaining appreciable balance and minerality that is neatly assimilated on the sappy finish. This should blossom once in bottle. There is class here. VM 90+ (3/2016): Good full red. Deep, ripe aromas of dark fruits and spices show a medicinal reserve. Densely packed and concentrated, with strong acidity contributing to a very primary, clenched quality in the early going despite the wine's solid ripeness. Finishes saline and firmly tannic but not dry. This cuvee is often the supplest and tastiest in the cellar at this stage but not this year. Less fruity than the 2014 but tactile and quite long on the aftertaste. Strong acidity should keep this wine young for a long time. Stephen Tanzer. WS 90 (5/2016): The cherry, currant and strawberry notes are matched by a firm, bracing structure in this red. Features fine weight and balance, remaining vibrant and long, with a mineral accent. Best from 2018 through 2028. 21 cases imported. BH 90-92 (4/2015): (from two parcels measuring .65 ha.) Reduction once again dominates the fruit. The mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is notably finer than that of the Fremiets with the same minerality and punch, all wrapped in a focused and lingering finish that also is ever-so-mildly warm and austere. In the same fashion the balance isn't quite perfect, but this is still very attractive. Drink 2021+. |

WS 93 (5/2016): Black cherry, raspberry and pepper flavors mark this vibrant red, holding back for now, but showing a sense of the depth and saturated fruit. The finish is firm and chalky, but this will open up with air and time. Best from 2019 through 2032. 100 cases imported. VM 92+ (3/2016): Bright medium red. Alluring superripe aromas of black cherry, mint and bitter chocolate: I would have guessed that this wine was vinified with some whole clusters but in fact it was entirely destemmed. A rather powerful Volnay with a slightly high-toned, almost porty ripeness to its black cherry, dark berry and chocolate flavors, but strong, slightly peppery acidity gives it a penetrating, somewhat disjointed quality in the early going. This deep, chewy Volnay finishes with big, granular tannins and excellent persistence. Stephen Tanzer. WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Champans has a feisty, much more gourmand bouquet compared to its siblings at this early stage with almost meaty red berry fruit infused with limestone/flinty scents. The palate is very focused with an abiding sense of symmetry, long in the mouth with fine tannins (although not as filigree as the Taillepieds) but with the same silky and harmonious texture toward the long finish. Excellent. BH 90-93 (4/2015): (from a huge 3.98 ha parcel.) Reduction. Here there is more size, weight and power to the detailed and more subtly mineral-driven flavors that also possess a lovely texture on the dusty, palate coating and linear finish. This is impressively long and well-balanced though at present not quite as complex. Drink 2023+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

VM 89-91 (4/2015): The 2013 Volnay Clos des Angles is quite powerful and intense for the year. Spice, new leather, menthol and tobacco wrap around a core of dark fruit. Hints of reduction are present today that mask some of the fruit. Nevertheless, the 2013 offers good potential and may turn out to be even better than this note suggests. Antonio Galloni. BH 89-91 (4/2015): Here too there is enough reduction to push the underlying fruit to the background but like the Volnay "1er" there is good freshness and ample punch to the delineated and delicious middle weight flavors. Here though there is a bit more concentration present on the lightly mineral-inflected, dusty and slightly austere finish. Drink 2020+. WA 89-91 (12/2014): The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles was showing just a touch of reduction when I tasted it. Underneath is some undergrowth, mulch-like scents infusing the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with gently grippy tannins. There is moderate weight in the mouth with a more assertive blackberry and raspberry finish. Fine. |

VM 94 (3/2016): Healthy dark red. Highly complex but youthfully restrained nose offers scents of black fruits, violet, chocolate, menthol and minerals, along with some faintly liqueur-like high tones. Boasts Outstanding density of texture, not to mention great lift and power for this bottling, with almost exotic fruit ripeness leavened by strong acidity. Finishes with spectacular lingering perfume of violet, bitter chocolate, wild herbs and mint. An amazingly strong, bulletproof Volnay for the year--or for any vintage, for that matter. Stephen Tanzer. WS 93 (5/2016): This red offers well-defined cherry, currant and spice flavors, supported by vibrant acidity. Saturated with pure, ripe cherry fruit midpalate, this firms up, yet remains balanced and mouthwatering on the long finish, showing spice and chalk accents. Best from 2018 through 2030. 95 cases imported. WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs has that citrus-like freshness; that Seville orange marmalade trait that was tangible in a range of mature Clos des Ducs tasted the previous week. There are touches of violet that emerge with continued aeration. The palate is very feminine and refined, laid back almost, but that distracts from the structure underneath and the persistence and minerality on the finish. This is a regal, perhaps one should say, "ducal," Clos des Ducs that should drink beautifully over the next 25-30 years. But as I discovered at the vertical, this vineyard needs several years in the cellar. BH 91-94 (4/2015): (a monopole that measures 2.15 ha.) A gorgeously fresh melange of black raspberry, cherry, tea, violets and anise scents introduces superbly well-detailed middle weight flavors that seem to be built on a base of firm minerality that continues onto the dusty, complex and strikingly persistent finish. As is often the case, this is the most complete wine in the range. Drink 2023+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

WS 93 (5/2016): Aromas and flavors of black pepper highlight the black cherry and black currant fruit in this beautifully integrated red. Firms up, yet remains long and spicy on the fresh aftertaste. Best from 2019 through 2030. 30 cases imported. WA 91-93 (12/2014): The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet has a very seductive, effortless bouquet that unfolds in the glass with raspberry, wild strawberry and a distant scent of pine cones that is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle but insistent grip. There is an abiding sense of symmetry here with very good length in the mouth. Tightly coiled at the moment, it will repay four or five years in bottle. This is a refined Volnay. BH 90-92 (4/2015): ( from a 1.57 ha parcel.) There are hints of tea and violets to the dark currant liqueur-like aromas. There is an excellent sense of energy to the overtly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess a dusty texture on the ever-so-slightly warm and austere finish. At present this is not perfectly well-balanced but I suspect that this will harmonize with 7 to 10 years of cellaring. Drink 2021+. VM 90-92 (4/2015): The 2013 Volnay Fremiets is one of the more floral, mid-weight wines in this lineup. Cherry pit, crushed flowers mint and white pepper all take shape in the glass. A bit more pliant on the mid-palate than the aromatic suggests, the Fremiets is another wine where balance rules the day. Distinct stony and saline notes add the final layers of nuance. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 90 (10/2023): Former winemaker Benjamin Leroux oversaw the 2013 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru, though Paul Zanetti told me he finished the aging in barrel. In this vintage, the wine was completely de-stemmed due to hail damage. The nose is well defined though simple, tertiary, with plenty of damp undergrowth/autumn leaf notes. The palate is medium-bodied with rustic tannins and fine weight. It's ferrous in style, with dark chocolate and tobacco leaf toward the finish. A little introspective, perhaps? This is a decent muscular Clos des Epeneaux, though not in the same class as the recent top vintages. (Drink between 2022-2032). Neal Martin. |

| BH 89-92 (1/2015): ( from vines averaging between 60 and 70 years of age located in Les Champs Perriers, En Deree, Sylvie, Les Jeunes Rois, La Justice, La Burie and La Platière.) A discreet application of wood intertwines with notes of black cherry, earth, humus and a hint of the sauvage. This is also quite lush though with more evident muscle to the medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by firmer and more prominent tannins on the balanced and lingering finish. This too delivers excellent quality for its level and will also drink well young if desired. Drink 2021+. Outstanding Top Value! |

| VM 90 (3/2016): Medium red. Musky, slightly reduced aromas of raspberry and spices. Sweet and fine-grained, offering lovely racy acidity that avoids sharpness. Raspberry and mocha flavors are complicated by a mineral touch. Finishes with firm tannins and good lift. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 90-92 (1/2015): Bright, dark red. Reticent, rather wild aromas of dark cherry and underbrush. Energetic but backward; much tighter today than the village wine and more dominated by its structure. The wild quality carries through on the palate. Best today on the back end, where fine-grained tannins spread out to saturate the palate. WA 88-90 (12/2014): The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiets comes from a single parcel of vines. The nose is well defined, dominated by the new oak at the moment, but there is sufficient fruit underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, quite dense at the moment with a touch of bell pepper on the masculine finish. Fine - if just a bit predictable. BH 88 (4/2015): Here too there are discreet floral nuances to the pretty red and dark currant scents that are liberally laced with earth and sandalwood nuances. There is a bit more volume to the medium-bodied flavors that retain a lovely sense of detail on the energetic, dusty and mildly austere finish though in this case there is just a hint of dryness that detracts slightly from the overall sense of balance and harmony. Drink 2020+. |

WA 92 (11/2016): Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru was showing some rather conspicuous new oak on the nose, though there is sufficient fruit underneath to soak that up. It just needs to develop more presence. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, fine tannin, a pinch of black pepper on the tip of the tongue with good heft behind it. What it lacks is killer precision on the finish, all the same, I admire the boldness of this Bonnes-Mares and that is often what I seek from this vineyard. Tasted September 2016. VM 94 (3/2016): Moderately saturated medium red. Highly nuanced scents of red cherry, raspberry, flowers and underbrush. At once silky and penetrating, showing a positive medicinal aspect to its flavors of red berries, flowers and spicy herbs. Very shapely wine with a rising finish featuring suave tannins and noteworthy finesse. A superb showing; this strikes me as more refined than the larger-scaled 2014. Stephen Tanzer. BH 94 (1/2016): An all but invisible veneer of wood integrates seamlessly with the intensely earthy and wonderfully complex dark berry fruit aromas that display top notes of spice and dried flowers along with a hint of herbal tea. As one might reasonably expect there is excellent power, volume and muscle to the attractive mineral-driven broad-shouldered flavors that possess a notably different texture compared to the Clos de Bèze on the hugely long finish. Unlike the Clos de Bèze however this beauty will probably be approachable after only 7 to 8 years of cellaring. |

| VM 94+ (3/2016): Full, dark red. Captivating rose petal lift to the aromas of red fruits, iron and minerals; less earthy and more ethereal than the Clos de la Roche. Also juicier and tighter in the mouth, showing less early sweetness but terrific acid spine and lift to the sappy flavors of raspberry and salty minerals. This wine has really put on weight since its bottling, noted Diane Snowden. But it still boasts terrific cut and inner-mouth tension. Lay this one down. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 91 (1/2016): (from a 1.16 ha parcel.) A discreet application of wood frames the fresh, cool and relatively airy aromas of high-toned cherry, pomegranate and ample floral scents. There is a sleek mouth feel to the utterly delicious and lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that retain a lovely sense of underlying tension and fine delineation on the balanced, long and solidly persistent if presently linear finish that my score assumes will flesh out with bottle age. Drink 2023+. VM 91 (3/2016): Saturated dark red. Blackberry and black licorice on the nose, plus a medicinal note. Very ripe and a bit warm, showing a solid structure but less pliancy than the last few samples. Substantial slightly tough tannins make this a bit ungiving today. Just a touch dry but long on the finish. WA 89-91 (12/2014): The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes (my sample taken from a new cask) has a fragrant, well-defined bouquet with pure raspberry preserve and crushed strawberry scents. There is palpable mineralite here. The palate has a firm grip on the entry, fine density with a straightlaced, lightly peppery finish that lingers nicely. I would have liked more depth toward the finish considering this is a Premier Cru, but let us see if this develops during the remainder of its barrel maturation. |

BH 93-95 (1/2015): A generous dollop of moderately toasty oak mixes with the highly layered nose of black cherry, cassis, warm earth and an impressive array of sauvage and underbrush notes. There is excellent richness to the overtly powerful and muscular flavors that possess an imposing sense of scale that continues onto the textured and mouth coating finish. Like several of the wines in the range in 2013 this is a big but not really massive wine that retains a sense of proportion even though the underlying structure is quite firm. This will need plenty of patience however. Drink 2028+. Don't miss! WS 93 (5/2016): A pretty red, this features wild strawberry and cherry fruit along with accents of spice and licorice, showing terrific harmony and length. Seductive now, but the gentle tannins suggest this could benefit from at least another few years of age. Best from 2018 through 2030. 2,133 cases made. VM 92+ (3/2016): Full medium red. A note of reduction dissipated to show complex, inviting aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, dried flowers, spices and caraway seed. Dense, dry and gripping, with strong saline minerality giving it a distinctly serious mien. This youthfully uncompromising wine took on more body with aeration and finishes firmly tannic and very long. Very 2013 in its impression of salinity and extract. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 89-92 (1/2015): A fresh but restrained nose is completely different as it's less spicy and more floral with lovely and airy notes of both red and dark currant scents. There is good delineation to the vibrant middle weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the firm, balanced and lingering finish. This does not yet possess superior complexity but my predicted range assumes that it will develop based on the quality of the underlying material. Drink 2021+. WA 88-90 (12/2014): The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Echanges is a cru close to Jean-Marie's heart as he told me that his mother used to play there when she was a child. This barrel sample, which was 70% through malolactic fermentation, has a floral bouquet with plenty of ripe mulberry fruit. The palate is succulent on the entry, sappy in the mouth with clean lines and a gentle grip on the finish. Fine. |

BH 89-91 (1/2015): (from 4 different parcels scattered above and below the 1ers and the blend of vines averages about 35 years of age.) Reduction flattens the nose but there is good freshness and energy to the supple and round medium-bodied flavors that also possess only a touch of backend rusticity on the complex, balanced and impressively persistent finish for a villages level wine. This is really quite good for what it is and worth your attention. Drink 2019+. Outstanding Top Value! WA 86-88 (12/2014): The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges Village had a slight reduction on the nose. The palate is supple in the mouth with crisp red cherry and strawberry fruit. There is decent depth here, a little disjointed at the moment but it should marry together nicely by the time of bottling in January. VM 86-88 (1/2015): Healthy bright red. Slightly reduced aromas of bitter cherry and lees. Sweet but reduced, with cranberry and raspberry fruit flavors complicated by earthy and saline traces. Boasts good lift but finishes with slightly tart-edged acidity. |

BH 92-94 (1/2015): ( from a 1.1 ha parcel of 55+ year old vines.) A ripe and extremely fresh nose exhibits perfumed aromas of cassis, earth, spice, plum liqueur and the classic Nuits animale character along with a background touch of wood. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the velvet-textured broad-shouldered yet refined flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality onto the balanced, suave and mouth coating finale. This is a bit less structured than it usually is and certainly less so than the Vaucrains if only just. Drink 2025+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 92-94 (1/2015): Bright red. Ripe, musky aromas of red berries, minerals and rust. Suave and creamy-sweet in the mouth, with an almost jammy ripeness but also very good framing acidity to the crunchy red berry flavors. Perhaps a bit youthfully disassociated at present, not to mention firmly tannic on the back end, yet this is easier to taste today than the Vaucrains owing to its sheer sex appeal. Offers superb potential. WA 91-93 (12/2014): The 2013 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Saint Georges, the “Grand Cru in waiting," is bestowed a pastille-like purity on the nose that takes time to get motoring, with a cheeky touch of marmalade developing. The palate is medium-bodied, has real class, bridled with with superb tension and fine tannins, even if it does not quite possess the riveting persistency on the finish that would complete the package. Still, this is a very fine Les Saint Georges that may merit a higher appraisal post-bottling. |

BH 92-94 (1/2015): ( from a 1.08 ha mix of younger and older vines that average about 50+ years of age.) A very spicy nose is composed of dense aromas of plum, violet, earth and pomegranate, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. The beautifully textured middle weight plus flavors possess excellent power and verve on the powerful finish that is shaped by a very firm core of ripe tannins. This is a deceptive wine as the mid-palate is supple to the point of being inviting yet the finale is firm to the point of mild austerity. Drink 2027+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 92 (11/2016): Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains has an introverted, slightly earthy bouquet with a light marine influence upon the dark fruit. With aeration it comes out of its shell, brightens up and reveals more red fruit character. The palate is clean and fresh with fine tannin, well judged acidity, supple in the mouth with plenty of raspberry, red cherry and cedar notes towards the composed silky finish. This is an excellent Nuits Saint Georges that will repay 3-4 more years in the cellar. VM 91-94 (1/2015): (18 hectoliters per hectare produced): Full medium red. Very pure aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, mocha and chocolate mint, complicated by truffley underbrush. Sweet, sappy and deep; rich and tactile, combining lovely finesse of texture with obvious force. This highly concentrated, youthfully austere Vaucrains finishes with substantial dusty tannins and excellent persistence. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90-92 (12/2014): Cropped at 18 hectoliters per hectare due to millerande grapes, the 2013 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Vaucrains is more open and expressive on the nose compared to the Pruliers ’13, the fruit veering more to the red spectrum with heightened mineralite. There is also more femininity here and that translates to the palate that is silky smooth and beautifully poised. There is not a huge depth or power here, but there is great tension and vibrancy. Very fine, but it deserves two or three years in bottle. |

| BH 94 (1/2016): A restrained nose proposes a well-layered mix of plum, essence of cherry and pungent earth scents along with a hint of the sauvage. The textured, concentrated and powerful large-scaled flavors possess remarkable density on the mid-palate thanks to the abundant dry extract that buffers the very firm tannic spine and slightly softens the austere and serious but not hard finale. As good as the 1ers in the range are, there is simply another dimension of depth present here. In sum this is terrific but patience will definitely be required. Drink 2028+. |

BH 92 (1/2016): ( from 70+ year old vines.) Gentle but not invisible wood serves as a backdrop for spicy and distinctly earthy red and dark currant aromas that possess an unusual yet interesting top note of dried tangerine peel. As is the case with many of the Grivot 2013s the mouth feel of the middle weight plus flavors is relatively fine thanks to the refined if firm tannins that shape and support the suave, powerful and mouth coating finale. This moderately firm and ever-so-mildly rustic effort will also need all of 12 years or so to reveal its full potential. Worth considering. Drink 2025+. WA 91-93 (12/2014): The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots has a similar nose to the '13 Roncier with slightly less mineralite at the moment. The palate is crisp and fresh, a little spicier here than either the Roncier or Pruliers, with a dash of black pepper enlivening the finish. There is plenty of charm here, although contrasting the two barrel samples, I suspect that the Roncier will possess more complexity in the long run. WS 91 (5/2016): This is aromatic, exuding floral, wild berry, spice and herbal notes. Flirts with elegance, boasting grip and racy acidity, ending with a chewy texture. Best from 2018 through 2030. 50 cases imported. VM 90+ (3/2016): Deep red with ruby highlights. Pungent perfume of black cherry, raspberry, minerals and licorice. Juicy but tightly wound, hinting at a racy high note of blood orange. All of these wines are showing firm tannic spine today but hiding their fat. |

| VM 92 (3/2016): Deep red-ruby. Wild blueberry, blackberry, licorice and herbs on the nose, with piquant accents of black pepper and violet building with air. Dense, juicy and youthfully imploded, with dark berry flavors complicated by game and leather nuances. Doesn't show the sweetness or early volume of the Amoureuses but this very silky, seamless wine softened nicely with aeration. Really saturates the mouth and builds on the juicy back end. |

| VM 89-91 (1/2015): (entirely destemmed; aged in one-year-old barrels): Healthy deep red. Tight aromas of blueberry and violet. | VM 89-91 (1/2015): (vinified with 70% whole clusters; 40% new oak; 37 hectoliters per hectare produced): Dark bright red. Pure, vibrant aromas of black cherry, licorice and game, lifted by a floral tonote. Sappy, saline and intense, showing early sex appeal and balance to its high-pitched yet fully ripe dark fruit and licorice flavors. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length. (Incidentally, Groffier's Bourgogne Pinot Noir, frequently an outperformer for its modest appellation, is a potential knockout in 2013. Aromas of ripe black raspberry, violet and game lead to a sweet, lush palate that shows serious muscle and cut to the spicy dark fruit flavors.) |

| BH 87 (1/2016): ( from 11 different parcels; 25% new oak.) Here the nose of pomegranate, black pinot fruit and floral aromas is elegant though only moderately complex. There is good punch and delineation to the refined medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a dusty and sappy if mildly lean finish. The sense of refinement is enhanced by the fine-grained tannins and even though the balance isn't ideal this is not without appeal. Drink 2019+. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2015): Reduction is sufficiently strong so as to render the nose impossible to evaluate. There is excellent size, weight and density to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a really lovely mouth feel thanks to the abundant dry extract as well as the quality of the tannins which are finer than usual. Even so the Nuits roots are in evidence as the lingering finish does display a touch of rusticity as well as an interesting hint of blood orange. This is well worth considering provided that you have at least a modicum of patience. Drink 2023+. |

VM 92-94 (11/2014): Bright ruby-red. Sappy aromas of raspberry, menthol and coffee are complicated by brown spices and clove oil. Concentrated and sharply delineated, communicating an impression of calcaire energy to the slightly inky, tight flavors of medicinal red cherry, crushed stone and botanical herbs. Like a mini-Bonnes-Mares, with the verve and spine to support a graceful evolution in bottle. A superb showing. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90-93 (4/2015): Despite the presence of strong menthol aromas there is still an appealing nuance to the mélange of red and dark currant, spice and violet scents. There is a lush and textured mouth feel to the mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by firm but phenolically mature tannins on the intense, robust and impressively persistent finish. This is a muscular but by no means rustic example of Fuées. WA 89-91 (12/2014): The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Fuees was showing reduction on the nose, therefore I will not comment there. The palate is fleshy and ripe with smooth tannin, well-judged acidity and a plush, mouth-coating finish that feels generous, even at this premature stage. I suspect this will be one of Jadot's earlier-drinking Chambolle '13s. |

| VM 94 (3/2016): Medium red with a palish rim. Complex, soil-inflected aromas of red berries, rose petal, coffee, meat and musky underbrush. In the mouth, fine-grained raspberry, game and savory soil flavors are invigorated by notes of flowers, pepper and spices. Structured but without any hardness, this surprisingly accessible wine finishes with suave, nearly invisible tannins and a strong repeating raspberry flavor. With time in the glass, exotic notes of yellow peach and passion fruit emerged. This fascinating Clos de la Roche is less backward than some examples of this grand cru in 2013. Stephen Tanzer. |

WS 93 (4/2016): Intense and powerful, with plum, black cherry and spice flavors flowing before giving way to dense tannins. Finishes with tobacco and mineral elements. All the components are there, but this needs time to integrate. Best from 2018 through 2027. 200 cases imported. WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques has a very refined, you could almost say "mild-mannered" bouquet compared to the other Gevrey premier cru, with more mineral notes and more floral scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a sturdy and assertive entry: bold but ripe, supple tannin knitted with well-judged acidity that dovetail into a very focused finish. This is not as immediate as I believe the other Gevrey premier cru will be and will deserve several years in bottle. BH 91-94 (4/2015): Here there is a bit more wood with the associated traces of menthol that surround the elegant floral and like the Estournelles, airy essence of red berry fruit liqueur and spice suffused aromas. There is a sophisticated mouth feel to the appealingly textured, intense and focused middle weight flavors that also display plenty of minerality that serves to add lift to the structured, serious and strikingly long finish. This is indisputably terrific though interestingly it doesn't seem to have quite as much separation between it and the other Gevrey 1ers in the range as I typically find chez Jadot. Still, this should be a really lovely effort though note well that this is a CSJ for the patient. Drink 2027+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 90-93 (1/2015): (this fruit was harvested on October 10, following heavy rain on the 9th): Medium red. Lovely rose petal perfume dominates the nose. Juicy and pure but tight and youthfully unforgiving; showing less fat and volume than the Estournelles. Unless this is simply painfully backward, it's hard to imagine this wine ever delivering the satisfaction of the Estournelles. Stephen. Tanzer. |

WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a deep and introspective bouquet with broody dark berry fruit, wild hedgerow and forest floor aromas that draw you in. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity. This is linear at the moment, very nicely focused with a dash of white pepper on the finish livening things up. Very fine...but patience required. BH 91-94 (4/2015): Like the Charmes and the Griotte, Barnier said that this was not vinified by Jadot. There is a pretty and expressive nose of red currant, raspberry, wild cherry and soft sauvage hints where the latter continues onto the dense, serious and powerful big-bodied flavors that are also shaped by a very firm and slightly rustic finish that delivers excellent if not truly sensation persistence. I slightly prefer the Chapelle for its greater refinement but it's close qualitatively speaking. Note that this too will require plenty of patience. VM 90-92 (11/2014): Bright medium red. Lightly medicinal aromas of black cherry, licorice, menthol and smoke. Sweet on entry, then rather backward on the palate; has no shortage of salty stuffing but an impression of lowish acidity gives the brooding palate a slightly heavy quality. Tannins are reasonably ripe but this wine is a cipher today. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 91-93 (4/2015): (from 45+ year old vines that sit just above Champans.) This is notably more expressive at this early stage than it usually is with its wonderfully elegant, pure and layered melange of various red berries, iron-inflected earth, violet and various spice elements. There is excellent intensity and ample minerality to the intensely saline, firm and lingering finish. We will see how this evolves but this appears to slightly more pliant than it usually is though note that it will probably still require at least 10 years before it's at its apogee. Drink 2023+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chenes has a more expressive, mineral-driven bouquet than the Caillerets – so much energy here and that is translated down to the palate that is poised and focused. It is laden with vibrant tart red cherry fruit, boysenberry and mineral, great depth and length and yet so fresh and approachable. This is one of those wines that I suspect will drink early but also repay cellaring. VM 91+ (3/2016): Good dark red. Closed on the nose, hinting at redcurrant, minerals and menthol. Dense, sappy and penetrating in the mouth, showing lovely depth to its intense flavors of cherry and licorice. Substantial ripe tannins call for patience, but there's plenty of medicinal reserve here to support a positive evolution in bottle. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 97 (9/2016): Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 La Grande Rue Grand Cru has a backward and broody bouquet, very complex with hints of woodland, damp earth and fern filtering through the tightly wound red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple and very fine, almost filigree tannins. The acidity is beautifully judged here -- very focused and refined, seamless towards the sophisticated finish. This is one of the best vintages of La Grand Rue that I have tasted, which is a considerable achievement given that this was not an exemplary growing season. WS 93 (7/2016): Pure, boasting cherry, raspberry, spice and mineral aromas and flavors. Features a dense structure, ending with a chalky feel. Shows excellent length and balance. WS 94 (5/2016): Spicy and aromatic, featuring sandalwood, green olive, cedar and nutmeg notes, framing cherry and currant flavors. Crisp, taut and balanced, with fine tannins adding support on the finish. Still pretty raw, but has excellent potential. Best from 2019 through 2035. 100 cases imported. VM 94 (3/2016): Medium-deep red. Complex, high-pitched perfume melds blackberry, cherry, wild herbs, black pepper, underbrush and dried flowers. Classic Clos des Lambrays in its combination of red and black fruits, dried flowers, minerals, spices, licorice and earth and its pungent inner-mouth energy. This wine actually reminded me of a 1978! Finishes with firm, noble tannins and terrific piquant length. This is actually easier to taste today than the village wine but should evolve very slowly. Stephen Tanzer. WA 93 (9/2016): Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru is a divisive wine, not one for those seeking layer upon layer of fruit. It is more mature in appearance than its peers, perhaps missing the fruit intensity one would anticipate from a grand cru of this stature. There is something a little "dusty attic" here although that ebbs away with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly leafy entry, gentle and elegant, full of personality. It is missing the weight and volume that a more benevolent vintage would have lent and it does not quite possess the structure or substance to suggest long-term. Yet, it remains a well-crafted and to put it prosaically, is absolutely delicious. BH 92-94 (1/2015): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 50+ years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 25+ years of age.) Here too there is gentle wood setting off a similar if more complex nose that displays more prominent floral and spice scents. There is very good volume to the utterly delicious medium weight and wonderfully vibrant flavors that possess really fine delineation before culminating in a mineral-inflected, saline and focused finish. I very much admire the sleek mouth feel as well as the impeccable balance. Lovely juice that is moderately structured and a bit less youthfully austere than usual. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 94 (1/2016): ( from a .6 ha parcel situated two-thirds in Cruots and the rest in Champs Traversin.) This is also strikingly spicy with exotic tea, anise, clove, cinnamon and dried orange peel nuances adding considerable interest to the black cherry, cassis and violet-suffused nose. There is seriously good richness and volume to the concentrated and marvelously seductive flavors thanks to an abundance of dry extract that really coats the palate and buffers the firm tannic spine on the energetic and beautifully well-detailed finale. I very much like the sense of harmony here as well and this should drink well both young and when fully mature. Drink 2028+. |

VM 95 (3/2016): Bright, dark red. Delicate, nuanced aromas of wild blueberry, macerated red fruits, crushed rock and exotic flowers. Wonderfully smooth and sweet yet still tight in the mouth, conveying an urgent character to its vibrant crushed raspberry and mineral flavors. Boasts amazing retention of primary berry fruit, but today this wine is even more spectacular on the nose and on the terrific gripping finish, where the noble tannins are thoroughly coated. Offers outstanding subtle length and lift. (Drink between 2024-2038). Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (1/2016): Relatively discreet oak spice sits atop a ripe, pretty and relatively airy nose that is composed of essence of red currant and a broad array of Vosne style spice elements that include exotic tea and sandalwood. There is excellent volume and richness to the full-bodied and distinctly serious mineral-driven flavors that possess very good mid-palate concentration on the powerful, well-detailed and gorgeously lingering if quite youthfully austere finish. This is a big wine in the context of the vintage and built to reward longer-term cellaring. (Drink starting 2031). WA 93-95 (12/2014): The 2013 Richebourg is 100% destemmed with 50% new oak. The new oak is prominent on the nose, although it does not obscure the intensity on the fruit underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, very well- judged acidity, a touch of salted licorice suddenly popping up on the complex finish. This is not a powerful Richebourg, more feminine and poised, but I agree with Thibault that it will build during the remainder of its élevage and it already has a very long tail on the aftertaste. |

| BH 90 (1/2016): (a .78 ha parcel of vines between 50 and 70 years of age.) An ultra-fresh nose presents a broad range of spice and floral notes on the mostly red berry fruit aromas. There is an opulent mouth feel to the very lush and round medium-bodied flavors that are not quite as vibrant as those of the straight Vosne cuvee on the firm, serious and nicely balanced finale that delivers excellent persistence. This is a terrific Vosne villages. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! |

VM 89+ (3/2016): Bright red-ruby. Black cherry, licorice and a musky stony nuance on the nose. At once silky and juicy on the palate, with black raspberry and blackberry fruit flavors complicated by a saline quality. This densely packed wine shows little in the way of early sweetness and seemed to go into a shell in the glass, with its firm minerality gaining the upper hand. This will require patience. Stephen Tanzer. NM 89-91 (12/2014): The 2013 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru la Perrière, a vineyard that Hubert and Laurent have treated organically for three years, has a quite an intense bouquet with small red cherries, cranberry and raspberry preserve. The palate is very well balanced with just the right amount of acidity to cut through the succulent red fruit, although the finish does not quite possess the delineation that I was expecting at the moment. BH 86 (1/2016): An earthy and moderately somber nose features mostly notes of various red berries along with hints of underbrush and humus. There is good punch and detail to the lightly mineral-inflected flavors that exhibit a distinct edginess on the otherwise saline and lingering if slightly clipped finish. Most people will likely find the level of acidity too much for their liking as it imparts a distinct austerity and as such I would be disinclined to age this for very long. Drink 2018+. |

There is a sleek mouth feel to the delicious and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by ripe tannins on the reasonably well-balanced, complex and lingering finish. VM 91 (3/2016): Bright, dark red. Highly aromatic nose combines blackberry, black raspberry, minerals and spices. Sappy and fine-grained; very dry and concentrated, conveying a strong impression of inner-palate energy. Sexy cherry and crushed stone flavors are framed by suave tannins on the very long, aromatic back end. Showing more eclat than it did from barrel a year ago, this wine has turned out very well. Drink 2019-2028. Stephen Tanzer. WA 91 (11/2016): Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Marechale has a more sophisticated and nuanced nose compared to its peers, red and black fruit here and well integrated oak. The palate is smooth in the mouth, supple and quite plush, clearly with some quality new oak that is almost Cathiard-like in style (something that appears to have evolved in the last few months). However, there is fruit to support that here. Give this 2-3 years in bottle and it should turn into a very decent Nuits Saint-Georges. BH 89 (1/2016): This is admirably pure and relatively high-toned despite the presence of ample earth influence on the bright mix of red raspberry and cherry scents. There is good volume to the beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that display a sleek muscularity before terminating in a firm, mouth coating and well-balance if mildly austere finale. This should improve for up to a decade. Drink 2021+. |

WA 89-91 (12/2014): The 2013 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussiere has a taut, well-defined bouquet with light oyster-shell scents emerging in the glass. The palate is crisp and fresh with a chalky, almost brittle texture, noticeable acidity and a tart and pointed finish. This seems just a little disjointed at the moment, so hopefully it will meld together during the remainder of its maturation period. VM 89-91 (1/2015): (racked five days prior to my visit): Expressive nose offers scents of raspberry, cranberry, clove and mocha. Supple and nicely ripe, with a lovely restrained sweetness to the flavors of strawberry, coffee and underbrush. Lower-toned than the village Chambolle but larger-scaled, finishing with solid tannic support. In comparison to the Chambolle, this wine hints at a sunny, even slightly roasted character. |

VM 97 (3/2016): Very good deep red. Closer to the CSJ than to the CDB on the nose, offering terrific pungent lift to the aromas of black raspberry, rose petal and blood orange. Wonderfully sappy and pure, without any impression of weightiness to its saline flavors of raspberry, spices and white pepper. Utterly fine-grained, silky wine with great finesse. One of the longest, most palate-saturating wines of this vintage, finishing with noble tannins and taste bud-titilllating perfume. Perfectly balanced also but built for a glorious evolution in bottle. It would be a shame to open this bottle too soon. Stephen Tanzer. BH 96 (1/2016): Once again subtle reduction pushes the underlying fruit to the background so I recommended decanting it for those of you who can't wait at least 5 years to try a bottle. There is even more size, weight and intensity to the velvety, powerful and opulent big-bodied flavors that possess an abundance of palate soaking dry extract that pushes the otherwise tightly coiled tannins to the background on the massively long coffee-inflected finish that really fans out as it sits on the palate. This is very firmly structured but actually a bit less austere than it usually is and thanks to the abundant dry extract might be approachable a bit sooner than usual too. In short, this brilliant effort is one of the greatest wines of the 2013 vintage. Drink 2035+. |

VM 96+ (3/2016): Very dark bright red. Great purity and lift to the aromas of black cherry, violet, graphite, bitter chocolate and minerals. Showing less obvious density today than the Bonnes-Mares but this is extremely tight and unevolved, with its saline crushed stone and mineral elements currently dominating its underlying fruit. The yield was just 20 hectoliters per hectare, due in large part to millerandage, but this extremely imploded Musigny is showing little of the early sweetness one might expect from tiny berries. Finishes with outstanding flavor authority, length and grip. This wine should go on for decades. Stephen Tanzer. BH 96 (1/2016): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha parcel planted to chardonnay.) This is also quite aromatically restrained with its cool, airy and extraordinarily complex nose that features notes of red raspberry, black cherry, violet, rose petal, Asian-style spices, in particular cinnamon and anise plus a hint of orange pekoe tea. There is superb concentration to the intensely stony and well-delineated broad-shouldered flavors that also brim with palate soaking dry extract that helps to buffer that imposingly powerful, tautly muscular and massively long and youthfully austere finish. This is breathtaking in just how much power and intensity it packs yet there isn't a hair out of place. In a word, 'wow'! Drink 2033+. |

| JD 90 (5/2024): The 2020 Barbera D’Alba Vigna Cuculo is a crowd pleaser of a wine, coming from vineyards just south of the Bricco Boschis. Pouring a deep magenta color, it’s plush with notes of ripe plum, candied flowers, and cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, it has good richness with good lift on the finish and is approachable now. Drink 2024-2030. Audrey Frick. |

| WA 93 (4/2024): The Cavallotto 2021 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vigna Cuculo has something a little exotic like toasted cumin seed or sweet cinnamon stick that pops from the bouquet. The wine's core of fruit shows dark cherries or crème de cassis, and these come through especially well on the palate. This wine is a tight little package that shows elegance, and it delivers on all fronts: concentration, intensity and balance. The fruit also shows good length. Fruit comes from 50-year-old vines in the Bricco Boschis cru, and 8,373 bottles were released. |

| VM 93 (3/2015): Sweet rose petals, hard candy, cinnamon, mint and new leather open up in the 2010 Barolo Bricco Boschis. Sweet, layered and exceptionally polished, the 2010 is a superb example of the year. At the same time, there is more than enough fleshiness to allow the 2010 to drink well with just a few more years in bottle. Expressive floral and spiced notes reappear on the finish. This is one of the best young vintages of the Bricco Boschis I can remember tasting. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96+ (6/2017): Cavallotto is on a roll with some very impressive new releases. The 2013 Barolo Bricco Boschis is a tremendous effort that has an edge on the excellent 2010 vintage in my view. The wine shows a beautifully exuberant but elegant bouquet with the ethereal and undertone fruit and spice aromas you get with Nebbiolo. Although the wine is never overdone, it does show silky persistence and a long finish that comes from the noble nature of the tannins and the wine's textural finesse. Yet, it is playfully deceiving in a way because behind that polished grace, it delivers impressive depth and power. WS 94 (4/2018): This is packed with sweet cherry, currant, floral and spice flavors. The vivid acidity drives the intensity, while dense tannins lend support. This will take some time to harmonize, but should be well worth the wait. Best from 2022 through 2040. 2,952 cases made. VM 92 (10/2017): The 2013 Barolo Bricco Boschis is terrific. Dense and powerful in the glass, the 2013 offers notable energy and muscle in its dark-toned Nebbiolo flavors. Smoke, graphite, rose petal, licorice and menthol develop in what is a decidedly brooding, inward Bricco Boschis. There is real staying power and persistence to the 2013. I wouldn't plan on touching a bottle anytime soon. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 98 (7/2020): All of these wines from Cavallotto deliver a very floral and perfumed subtext that gives lift and delicate buoyancy to the overall bouquet. This is the Castiglione Falletto magic that shows so well in this classic vintage. The 2016 Barolo Bricco Boschis offers dried cherry, sandalwood, bramble and forest floor. The wine reveals a slightly wild and untamed character that adds to its interest and personality. Overall, this is an elegant wine with a streamlined and elegant finish. The aromas are focused and bright. I can't wait to taste the Riserva expression from this site when it is released in three years' time. JD 96 (5/2023): A rich ruby into garnet hue, the 2015 Barolo Bricco Boschis offers layers of spice with rosemary, leather, cedar, and black cherry. Full-bodied and ripe, with rounded fruit that floods the palate with black raspberry, balsamic, and fresh earth, it is brooding and warming but remains pure and shows no signs of slowing down. Drink 2024-2044. Audrey Frick. WS 95 (3/2021): The core of cherry and currant is framed by notes of hay, eucalyptus and wild thyme, with a solid structure that leaves a dusty feel, offset by the sweet, ripe fruit. Balanced overall, this is built for the long haul. Best from 2023 through 2045. 3,100 cases made, 1,000 cases imported. VM 93 (2/2020): The 2016 Barolo Bricco Boschis is fabulous. Rich and pliant, with lovely mid-palate depth, the Bricco Boschis is a terrific introduction to the house style. There is plenty of the density that is such a Cavallotto signature, but the 2016 is also much more classic in feel than this wine has been in some time. Succulent red cherry, plum, mint, sweet tobacco, licorice and pine add layers of nuance to this expressive and inviting Barolo from Cavallotto. Best of all, the 2016 is already easy to drink and enjoy. The 2016 saw 32-34 days on the skins, followed by three years in cask. For this wine, Cavallotto used smaller casks of 50HL and a bit more new oak to help make the wine accessible young. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 96 (5/2021): The 2017 Barolo Bricco Boschis is highly aromatic with anise, dried leather, and burnt orange. Ripe and structured, it offers ripe cherry, turned forest floor, and a long finish. The warmth of the vintage is felt while remaining fresh. Drink 2024-2042. Audrey Frick. WA 94 (6/2021): Available in numbered bottles, the organic Cavallotto 2017 Barolo Bricco Boschis is a generous and fleshed out expression that opens to immediate aromas of cherry, wild plum and cassis. There are floral notes as well, and some spice, licorice and grilled herb. Like many of the Barolos I tasted from this vintage, the bouquet is accessible and generous now, but the wine is tannic and more austere in terms of mouthfeel, requiring extra bottle age. The hope is that both the bouquet and the palate will evolve at the same pace. From 45-year-old vines, this was a release of exactly 19,410 bottles and 999 magnums. VM 93 (2/2021): The 2017 Barolo Bricco Boschis is superb. A rush of crushed raspberry, rose petals, mint, sweet spice and blood orange gives the 2017 its effusive, sexy personality. Medium in body and exceptionally polished, the 2017 is an absolute jewel of a wine. Many 2017s are nervy and in need of time to soften, but not the Bricco Boschis. All the elements are so well-balanced. If I was going to open a wine for someone who was not familiar with Barolo, I might very well open this. It’s impossible not to love the 2017 Bricco Boschis. Antonio Galloni. |

JD 95 (5/2023): The 2018 Barolo Bricco Boschis pours a deep ruby and has spiced and enveloping aromatics of cigar box, leather, pure red cherry, and turned earth. This medium-bodied red is approachable and graceful, with moderate tannins and good concentration in its notes of Earl Grey tea, blood orange, and raspberry liqueur. Drink 2024-2044. Audrey Frick. WA 94 (6/2022): The Cavallotto 2018 Barolo Bricco Boschis (a certified organic wine) is a lovely expression with fruit from one of the most beautiful sites in Castiglione Falletto, measuring 7.3 hectares. The wine is streamlined and tight with forest berry, blackcurrant and spice. It is taut and silky, showing fruit that has been shaped by cool nights and warm days. Bricco Boschis always delivers a special sense of sharpness and focus. Production is 23,747 bottles and 1,333 magnums. VM 92+ (2/2022): Cavallotto’s 2018 Barolo Bricco Boschis is a powerhouse. A blast of sweet dark cherry, menthol, licorice, gravel and incense hits the palate. Youthful and quite strapping in terms of its presence, the 2018 holds quite a bit of promise. That’s the good news. But readers will have to be patient, as the tannins are quite searing at this stage for a wine that has typically been a bit more forthcoming. This is an especially serious edition of the Bricco Boschis Barolo. Antonio Galloni. WS 92 (9/2022): A firmly structured, dry Barolo, with a core of cherry and plum shaded by earth and tobacco elements. Turns austere, picking up an underlying mineral streak on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2038. |

JD 93 (5/2014): A youthful saturated red/ruby color, the 2020 Barolo Bricco Boschis leaps from the glass with tangy aromas of sour cherries, orange peel, clove (it smells like heffeweisen), and dried earth. The palate is lovely, revealing a refined structure, ripe, velvety tannins, and a pure core of concentration with a ripe yet weightless feel. It has good depth and remains fresh, and its structure lasts long on the finish, but so does its fruit. I liked the palate more than the nose at this stage, and it’s likely going to improve with time in bottle over the next 12-15 years. Drink 2026-2040. Audrey Frick. VM 93 (1/2025): The 2020 Barolo Bricco Boschis is beautifully rich and resonant right out of the gate. Black cherry, blackberry, licorice, cloves, leather and scorched earth are amplified in this decidedly dense, large-scaled Barolo from Cavallotto. There’s a good bit of finesse here, but the 2020 could stand to shed some baby fat. Even so, there is certainly no harm in drinking this now. What a gorgeous Barolo this is. Antonio Galloni WA 94 (1/2025): Opening to a dark Nebbiolo color, the organic Cavallotto 2020 Barolo Bricco Boschis is a little richer in this vintage. The quality of aromas also takes on a bigger profile with dried blackberry, licorice and earthy black truffle. This apparently comes from the fruit but is also shaped by the wine's long aging regime that sees 36 months in Slavonian oak casks. As a result, the delicate mineral and floral nuances that are an important feature of this wine are less prominent in 2020. This is a release of 18,582 bottles. |

Dark, balsamic notes wrap around a core of black fruit as this powerful, strapping Barolo shows off its class. Big, chewy tannins support the huge finish in an imposing Barolo full of intrigue. It will be a number of years before the 2008 hits its stride, but it is fabulous, even today. The San Giuseppe is much less expressive than the Vignolo, which is typically the case when the wines are young. It will almost certainly blossom with more time in bottle. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 99 (7/2020): The Cavallotto 2013 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe feels magically cool even as the wine warms in the glass. Eucalyptus, menthol and medicinal herbs rise from the bouquet, with dark fruit and savory spice in tow. When you first open the bottle, it shows a distinct mineral character with crushed aspirin, limestone and graphite. I opened a second bottle a few days before this tasting and had both bottles side by side to compare. Both showed impressive results with a pristine level of focus, sharpness and linearity. With aeration, those dark fruit nuances come to the forefront, showing dried cherry, plum and candied orange peel. A few hours later, you pick up on leather, tobacco and cedar wood. This is a fluid and ever-changing wine that is well worth adding to your cellar selection. What a beauty. WS 96 (4/2020): A classically proportioned Barolo, featuring cherry, plum, tar, iron and eucalyptus flavors, with floral hints. Dense and tannic, offering balance and a long, mouthwatering finish. Solid tannins are offset by ripe fruit and fresh acidity. Best from 2023 through 2046. 777 cases made, 300 cases imported. VM 95+ (11/2019): The 2013 Barolo Riserva San Giuseppe is just gorgeous. It's good to see how well the 2013 has come together since I first tasted it. Powerful and virile, with tremendous aromatic intensity and tons of structure, the 2013 has so much to offer. Time in the glass brings out myriad layers of nuance. Sage, mint, lavender, geranium, cinnamon and blood orange add an exotic flair. Put simply, the 2013 San Giuseppe is everything Barolo should be. Unlike the Vignolo, the San Giuseppe is going to need a number of years to be at its best. Even so, it is impressive in the early going. |

Antonio Galloni. |

JD 98 (5/2021): The 2015 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is ripe with dried plum, saddle leather, crushed rock, and tar. Revealing a mineral-rich earth and full structure, with black tea, dried porcini, and cherry pit, it is warming with a wintery feel. This is a great one to lay down and check in on in 4-6 years. Drink 2025-2050. Audrey Frick. VM 96 (2/2021): Cavallotto’s 2015 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe rounds out this trio of new releases. A big, strapping wine, the 2015 possesses remarkable intensity to match its classic, mid-weight frame. Like all of these Barolos, it seems to have less overt fruit and more classicism. Camphor, licorice, menthol, pine, underbrush and scorched earth all run through the 2015, a big, brawny Riserva that will delight for many years to come. The 2015 San Giuseppe is what Barolo is all about. It’s a must for Cavallotto fans. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 95+ (2/2022): The 2016 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is a powerhouse. Huge swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit in a brooding, almost somber Barolo that demands patience. Hints of licorice, spice, leather, menthol, incense and black cherry fruit begin to emerge with time in the glass. I won’t be surprised if the 2016 turns out even better than this note suggests. There is a ton of potential here. I find the combination of power and translucent energy both evocative and quite promising. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96+ (8/2023): Organic fruit for this wine comes from a small parcel within the hilltop Bricco Boschis cru with 60-year-old vines. The Cavallotto 2017 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe shows ample texture and softness with layers of dark fruit, plum, dried cherry, baked terracotta and spice. This vintage delivers more accessible fruit overall, and the Cavallotto house style delivers elegance and depth. Production is 6,637 bottles. WS 94 (11/2023): Generous, this red displays a mix of woodsy underbrush, tar, truffle and plum flavors. Solidly built, with dense, pointed tannins underlying the superlong finish. Though balanced in the end, this could use more time to integrate. Best from 2025 through 2043. 1,500 cases made, 450 cases imported. |

Sage, menthol, licorice, cloves, dried flowers, scorched earth, leather and gravel infuse the San Giuseppe with all of its classic signatures. A dense, backward Barolo, the 2018 is going to need a handful of years to soften. It is a super-impressive wine for what has turned out to be an irregular vintage. This is beautifully done. WA 95 (6/2019): The 2013 Barolo Riserva Vignolo surprises for the sheer darkness and saturation of its color. Upfront and without too much bother, the wine offers immediate richness and concentration with dark berry fruit, plum and dried cherry. There is a lot of intensity here, but the wine is more horizontal and broad in character than it is vertical per se. In other words, it shows a heavy center of gravity, and its very character is focused on richness and power. This wine ages in 20- and 100-hectoliter Slavonian oak botti for up to five years before its commercial release. Production is exactly 6,666 bottles. VM 94 (2/2020): A big, dense wine the 2013 Barolo Riserva Vignolo is going to need quite a bit of time to be at its best. Today, it is decidedly dark and brooding. Black cherry, smoke, licorice, iron, leather and spice add to that impression. Time in the glass brings out a super-classic profile of rose petal and tar, but the 2013 remains quite imposing. I can't remember a Vignolo with this much sheer brawn. Readers will have to be patient , but there is certainly plenty to look forward to. The 2013 saw 36-38 days on the skins followed by five years in cask, with a preference for larger and more neutral oak that allows for a more gradual pace of aging in the cellar than smaller casks. Antonio Galloni. WS 94 (4/2020): A core of sweet, ripe fruit is surrounded by tar, eucalyptus, menthol, soy and tobacco flavors. Firm and taut, with latent fruit to balance the structure. The sweet fruit returns on the aftertaste. Needs a few years. Best from 2022 through 2043. 555 cases made, 200 cases imported. |

JD 97 (5/2021): Lifted and savory aromatics initially jump out of the 2015 Barolo Riserva Vignolo, with graphite, incense, brushed leather, and dried sour cherry. Full and balanced, with dried currant, tobacco leaf, and clove, it has a powerful, noble structure. This is a wine with layered complexity that is hard to pin down. Drink 2024-2050. Audrey Frick. VM 95 (2/2021): The 2015 Barolo Riserva Vignolo is a powerful, tightly wound wine that is going to need a few years to soften. Its gorgeous, translucent elegance is impossible to miss. Sweet red berry fruit, gravel, rose petal, mint, licorice and darker earthy tones all run through this compelling, beautifully layered Riserva. Impressive. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 94 (2/2022): The 2016 Barolo Riserva Vignolo is going to need time to emerge, as it is pretty austere today. Red cherry, iron, incense, white pepper, cedar and tobacco are enshrouded by a blanket of intense tannin. The flavor profile is decidedly old-school leaning, in a way that is not too common these days. Firm, dusty tannins wrap it all together. Quite frankly, the 2016 tastes like a wine from another era. I can’t wait to see how it ages. Antonio Galloni. |

| WA 95 (8/2023): Vignolo is a small vineyard site just down the hill from Bricco Boschis. The 2017 Barolo Riserva Vignolo (made with organic fruit) shows extra richness and density and more mineral definition that give this wine precision and focus. There is pencil shaving, crushed stone and licorice around a core of wild berry fruit and soft cherry. This vintage shows a broader more generous personality overall. The vines are 40 years old on average, and this Barolo ages in large Slavonian oak casks for 60 months. Production is limited to 2,609 bottles this vintage. |

WA 97 (1/2025): The organic Cavallotto 2018 Braolo Riserva Vignolo delivers the focus and straight-shooting concentration that we can expect of a Castiglione Falletto. The wine ages for an extended 60 months in large Slavonian oak casks, and fruit comes from a southwest-facing slope with 40-year-old vines. The wine's core of fruit remains on the dark side, but you also get pretty lift and verticality with tart berry aromas, shaved mineral, cola and mint (like when you walk through the vineyard rows in summer). The wine is amply structured and fleshed out and delivers texture. The Riserva Vignolo is my favorite of Cavallotto's wines this year. VM 94 (1/2025): The 2018 Barolo Riserva Vignolo is a young, tightly wound wine. Dark-toned fruit, leather, spice and menthol infuse the 2018 with notable density. Vignolo is typically marked by relatively soft, supple contours, but the 2018 is very much on the virile side for this bottling. Even so, it is pretty impressive, especially for the year. I would give this a few years in bottle, as the tannins are rather imposing in the early going. (Drink between 2025-2040.) Antonio Galloni. |
