Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru |

BH 95 (5/2011): As is typically the case, this is earthier and much more sauvage than the Bressandes though it retains good freshness and pinot noir character. The nose speaks primarily of plum and floral aromas that are in keeping with the sappy, rich, powerful and broad-shouldered flavors that drench the palate with dry extract on the very firmly structured and hugely long finish. This should be a great wine in time. Drink 2027+. WA 95 (5/2011): The 2009 Corton Clos du Roi reveals superb aromatic complexity and delineation, with expressive floral scents that are woven into the fruit. This is intense and powerful, but also marvelously elegant. It is a wine for those who can afford to be patient. The higher altitude of this site helped preserve a measure of freshness, which was quite welcome in 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2029-2049. |

BH 94 (4/2012): This is much more animale in character than the Bressandes with a somber if highly complex nose featuring dark berry fruit, stone, earth and underbrush nuances. There is an overt muscularity to the big-bodied, intense and robust flavors that possess a most admirable amount of structure-buffering dry extract that imparts a velvety texture to the borderline chewy and terrifically persistent finish. A classic Clos du Roi that is built for the long-term. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! VM 92-95 (2/2012): Bright ruby red. Perfumed, high-pitched aromas of cherry, minerals, spices and licorice: Cellarmaster Christophe Bouillot describes this as the domain's "upstairs Corton," while the Bressandes is their downstairs version. Precise and fine-grained in the mouth, with lovely mineral and violet high notes lifting the black cherry and licorice flavors. Really saturates the palate without leaving any impression of undue weight. Very long on the aftertaste. |

VM 93+ (3/2015): Bright red. Slightly high-toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry and smoky, soil-inflected minerals. Densely packed and extremely young, boasting impressive thickness to its black fruit, mineral and licorice flavors. Real grand cru size here, as well as energy. Saturates the palate on the very long, ripely tannic back end. This one calls for patience. BH 92 (4/2014): A more deeply pitched and overtly sauvage nose displays notes of iron-infused earth along with ripe and fresh dark currant and cassis aromas. There is excellent size, weight, power and concentration to the big-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the intensely mineral-infused finish where a touch of wood surfaces. This is a substantial wine even by the outsized standards of a fine Clos du Roi. Drink 2024+. WA 90 (10/2015): Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Corton Clos du Roi from Domaine de la Pousse d'Or is showing a fair amount of new oak on the nose that needs another couple of years to be subsumed. The palate is medium-bodied with a strong saline entry, rounded in the mouth with plenty of extraction, though it requires more detail, more tension on the finish. It just seems rather heavy-handed at the moment although I suspect it will repay cellaring as that carapace of oak melts away. |

| VM 91-93 (1/2012): Good ruby-red. Blackberry and chocolate on the nose and palate. Sweet, lush and pure, combining a rather gentle texture and very good lift. Suave, fine-grained Volnay with ripe tannins and lovely lingering purple fruits. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 92 (11/2018): The 2015 Volnay Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrées 1er Cru is tightly coiled at first, yet precise and focused, gradually unfolding to reveal disarming pure dark cherries, Dorset plum and light undergrowth aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with layers of sappy black and red fruit and a fine line of acidity, and quite mineral-driven with a lovely touch of piquancy on the detailed finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2022-2040). Neal Martin. |

| BH 89-91 (4/2017): (this is actually a premier cru but it is not declared as such.) A ripe and dense nose is composed primarily by notes of plum, violet and warm earth nuances. As is typically the case there is more size, weight and power to the equally dense medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract, all wrapped in a firmly structured but well-balanced finish. Patience required. Drink 2025+. Outstanding Top Value! |

| VM 95+ (10/2019): Saturated dark red-ruby. Deep, powerful aromas of kirsch, menthol, licorice and dark chocolate, along with a faint musky nuance. Wonderfully rich and enveloping wine, with its distinctly dark fruit flavors accented by pepper and spices. At once dense and energetic owing to its sappy minerality and surprising back-end acidity, this wine is nonetheless a bit of a bruiser, as its fully ripe but serious mouth-clenching tannins are going to need time to resolve. But the wine's impressive salty, mineral-driven persistence suggests that it will be long-lived. (13.5% alcohol; September 6 harvest; 35 h/h produced; 3.36 pH; d'Angerville attributed the unusually dark color of this wine to drought conditions in Volnay from mid-June to early August). Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 95 (4/2018): The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux is fabulous, wafting from the glass with notes of wild berries, orange peel, cinnamon, rich soil and espresso. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered, with a lovely line of bright acidity, fine-grained tannins, sappy energy, and terrific depth and tension at the core. This is a great Clos des Epeneaux from Paul Zinetti. BH 94 (4/2018): Here the nose is notably riper than the 2016 version yet it manages to retain good freshness to the pure red berry fruit, earthy, floral and spice-suffused aromas. The decidedly dense, tautly muscular and powerful broad-shouldered flavors are underpinned by notably firm tannins and outstanding length on the beautifully complex finale that exhibits just enough warmth to warrant mentioning. This is quite clearly built-to-age and it's going to need it. In a word, impressive. (Drink starting 2030). VM 92+ (11/2018): The 2015 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux 1er Cru takes time to coalesce in the glass, eventually revealing black cherries, raspberries, autumn leaves and a touch of incense. It is understated and classic in style, but seems to grow with aeration. The crisp palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and plenty of tension – a bit linear and strict at the moment, though I suspect this will age with real style once it has gotten through its adolescence. Do not touch for 5 to 7 years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2023-2045). Neal Martin. |

VM 88 (1/2017): (bottled in mid-August; vinified with 80% whole clusters): Lovely spicy Pinot aromas and flavors of raspberry, minerals, flowers and dark chocolate. A very fresh, juicy Bourgogne Rouge with terrific gulpability. Stephen Tanzer. BH 88 (1/2017): (from 60+ year old vines based on the original pinot fin strain that is so highly regarded today.) A cool, pretty and pure nose reflects notes of various red berries, floral and a hint of earth. There is terrific energy and fine detail to the utterly delicious flavors that possess outstanding depth and length for a regional wine. Recommended. Drink 2018+. Outstanding Top Value! |

| BH 90-92 (1/2017): (from a .75 ha parcel of 50+ year old vines.) This is almost a combination of the Combottes and Chatelots with its wonderfully layered nose of kirsch, spice, tea, violet and lavender scents. There is once again fine richness to the sappy and palate coating medium weight flavors that possess both a taut muscularity and power that carries over to the impressively persistent finale where about the only nit is a hint of warmth. Drink 2023+. |

Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots |
$139 |

|
| |
BH 90-93 (1/2017): Here too there is a discreet touch of wood surrounding the super-fresh and ultra-pure aromas of earth, red currant, herbal tea and a whiff of the sauvage. There is outstanding intensity to the detailed and relatively robust medium-bodied flavors that are supported by a firm core of ripe tannins on the impressively persistent and well-balanced finale where a hint of bitter cherry emerges. (Drink starting 2025). VM 88-91 (1/2017): Bright, dark red. Less porty on the nose than the Chaignots but still showing a note of black cherry syrup. Sweet black cherry and black raspberry flavors are complicated by a hint of licorice, with a slightly roasted quality emerging with air. Quite ripe and dense but more about fruit than minerality. Has good mid-palate stuffing to support its tannins. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90-92 (12/2016): The 2015 Nuits Saint George's 1er Cru les Bousselots has a very different nose compared to the Chaignots, one that is more reserved, nicely defined, perhaps more feminine in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, chalky tannin, plenty of brambly red fruit, touches of clove and even dried blood towards the composed finish that will need 3-4 years to subsume the oak. |

WA 94 (10/2018): Bruno Clair's 2015 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru was showing very well, wafting from the glass with a classy bouquet of ripe cherries and dried flowers, complemented by sapid, savory nuances of soy and smoked duck. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, supple and satiny, with a deceptively open-knit, succulent profile that I suspect is more a function of the wine's structural finesse than it is any lack of seriousness. This is an elegant, classically balanced Clos de Bèze that may well prove to be a sleeper of the vintage. VM 94 (11/2018): The 2015 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has an initially slightly disjointed bouquet that comes together nicely with aeration. I like the purity here, and the oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, judicious acidity and wonderful precision as it crescendoes in a detailed finish. Yes, there is a veneer of new oak to be absorbed, but there is enormous potential. Long-term and quite regal. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin. BH 96 (1/2018): This too is cool, elegant, spicy and even more complex with its range of airy red berries, underbrush, earth, sandalwood and anise nuances. There is excellent richness, power and mid-palate density to the big-bodied but not massive flavors that exhibit a subtle minerality on the mouth coating and hugely long finish. This is certainly an imposing wine yet the mouthfeel is one of class and grace and interestingly for such a young Bèze, there is virtually no austerity. Wow. |

Liqueur-like black raspberry, dark cherry and bitter chocolate on the nose. Very ripe, full, powerful Volnay; quite chewy and sappy, with captivating saline soil character and a rather massive tannic structure that calls for patience. More dominated by the vintage than most of the other 2015s at this address. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 90-92 (4/2017): A super-fresh nose reveals a spicy mix of floral and earth-suffused red berry fruit aromas. Good stuff. (Drink starting 2023). |

|
| |
| BH 89-92 (4/2017): A pungent nose presently consists of wood and reduction. On the plus side though there is a lovely sense of freshness and underlying tension to the slightly more refined medium weight flavors, thanks primarily to the relatively fine-grained tannins that also shape the more obviously mineral-driven and firmer finish where once again hints of bitter cherry and rusticity can be found. This offers terrific quality for a Ladoix villages and is high recommended provided you have the intention of cellaring it for at least a few years. (Drink starting 2025). |

| BH 91 (6/2017): Here the nose is quite firmly reduced so be sure to decant it if you're yearning to try a bottle upon release. | BH 91-94 (1/2017): (from a .52 ha parcel in En la Chapelle.) Discreet but not invisible wood sets off an attractively layered nose that features notes of plum, anise, violet, earth and a beguiling array of spice elements. There is a caressing mouth feel to the rich, round and delicious middle weight plus flavors that tighten up significantly on the serious and youthfully austere finish that makes clear that this will not be an especially good candidate for early drinking. Drink 2030+. |

| BH 89 (1/2018): (from Porroux, Le Village, Clos Solon and Les Herbuottes.) A ripe but fresh nose combines both red currant and floral-suffused aromas with those of lavender, earth and a hint of oak. There is good intensity and freshness to the relatively robust middle weight flavors that possess fine delineation before culminating in a youthfully austere, dusty and mouth coating finale where a hint of warmth appears. A quality villages and worth a look. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

WA 90-92 (12/2016): The 2015 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru comes from four different lieux-dits from north to south of the appellation. It has an attractive bouquet with black cherries, bilberry and orange blossom; the oak neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, masculine in style with subtle tobacco notes infusing the slightly broody and yet fresh and tensile finish. It deserves a couple of years in bottle and should evolve into a very attractive Morey-Saint-Denis. BH 90-92 (1/2017): A ripe yet agreeably fresh nose features notes of plum, spice, earth and pretty floral nuances. There is both good richness and punch to the medium-bodied and fleshy flavors that tighten up significantly on the overtly powerful and entirely serious finish where a hint of bitter cherry arises. (Drink starting 2027). VM 89-92 (1/2017): Pungent spices and minerals on the nose, but with a more subdued fruit element than the village version. A step up in concentration and density in the mouth but quite backward in the early going and dominated by its structure. Finishes with firm-edged tannins and a strong spicy character. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 95 (1/2018): ( from a 1.57 ha parcel.) A discreet application of wood serves as a relatively neutral backdrop for the cool, pure and ultra-spicy and floral aromas of dark currant, plum and soy. The tautly muscular, intense and impressively scaled big-bodied flavors drip with both dry extract and evident minerality on the robust and driving finish that is sneaky long. This is quite firmly structured and will require extended patience before it reaches it apogee though it should very much be worth the wait. I would add that the domaine believes the 2015 is the finest Malconsorts that they have made and I would agree with that assessment. Drink 2030+. Outstanding! |

| BH 96 (5/2018): An extremely ripe nose manages to avoid any sense of surmaturite on the liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, cassis, anise and lilac scents. This is a massive wine, with huge mid-palate concentration, power and muscle that terminates in a borderline painfully intense finale that both coats the palate and lasts for minutes. I take considerable pains to point out however that this ultra-structured and overtly austere effort is not only built for the long haul but for the very long haul. I have suggested an initial drinking window of 30 years from now but it may very well be longer. In sum, this brilliant effort is very old school Corton that I wouldn't even consider opening for at least 10 years. Try from 2035+. |

A more deeply pitched nose is composed by notes of dark berry fruit, spice, earth and a hint of animale. There is obvious minerality to the rich, full and naturally sweet broad-scaled yet relatively elegant flavors that are solidly structured, muscular and wonderfully intense while delivering superb complexity on the hugely long and moderately rustic finish. This gorgeous effort is indisputably built for long-term aging. Dirnk 2033+. Don't miss! |

VM 91-93 (1/2017): Healthy full red. Cherry and boysenberry fruit aromas are lifted by rose petal and violet, with a gamey nuance adding complexity. Silky on entry, with its cherry and raspberry flavors enlivened by pungent minerality. In a distinctly rocky yet smooth style, like a baby Griottes. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90-93 (1/2017): (from a .21 ha parcel planted in 1919.) This is also strikingly fresh and bright with an aromatic profile that runs towards the red side of the fruit spectrum along with more evident earth and game nuances. There is a bit more volume and power to the equally mineral-inflected flavors that trade size and weight for slightly less precision on the equally long but less refined finale. This is more obviously Gevrey in character. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! |

| BH 92-94 (1/2018): An elegant, pure and beautifully complex blend of cool red berries, rose petal and spice are trimmed in an all-but-invisible application of wood. There is the same lovely sense of underlying tension suffusing the sleekly muscular middle weight plus flavors that exude a subtle minerality onto the dusty, balanced and impressively persistent finish. This wine usually matures slowly and while it's not firm to the point of youthful austerity, the tannic spine is sufficiently tightly wound to make clear that this needs patience. Drink 2028+. |

An exuberantly spicy nose offers up notes of cassis, various black fruit nuances and plenty of earth and game scents. The dense, powerful and brooding big-bodied flavors possess outstanding volume and mid-palate concentration where the abundant dry extract serves to buffer the very firm and imposing tannic spine on the hugely long finish. | BH 92-94 (4/2017): (the Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could retain the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age.) Prominent, but not dominant, oak and menthol characters are present on the ultra-spicy nose of attractively fresh red and dark cherry aromas that are trimmed in tea, sandalwood and hoisin nuances. The bigger, richer and more mineral-driven flavors also coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the overtly powerful and driving finish that goes on and on. This is not a huge version of the appellation but the focus and sense of harmony are certainly admirable. Patience required. Drink 2030+. |

BH 89-92 (4/2017): This is also on the toasty side but stops short of dominating the spicy display of plum, violet, red cherry and Asian-style tea aromas. The toast also transfers to the super sleek, even satin-textured medium-bodied flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that helps to buffer the moderately firm tannins shaping the complex and highly energetic finish. This is a bit woodier than I prefer but there is no doubting the excellent underlying quality. Drink 2023+. Outstanding Top Value! WA 88-90 (4/2017): The 2015 Vosne Romanee Aux Reas was just a little disjointed on the nose when I tasted it, just missing some of the precocity of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin, good depth and body with a spicy, quite muscular finish. It handles the 50% new oak well, although overall I would just be looking for a little more detail and sophistication. |

BH 89-91 (4/2017): The domaine always seems to do a fine job with this wine and it's a shame that the old vines are being ripped out. A markedly toasty nose is composed by notes of essence of red cherry, plum and a host of Asian-style spice elements. The mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is always quite velvety, indeed to the point of opulence that continues on to the complex and beautifully persistent finale. Recommended, provided you don't mind enough wood to notice. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! WA 90-92 (4/2017): The 2015 Vosne-Romanee Les Maizières will be the last release since the 45-year-old vines were pulled up following the harvest, since they were too degenerated. Matured in 50% new oak, it offers crisp red cherry and cranberry scents on the nose, neatly defined and focused with a hint of wet limestone in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit on the entry, a pleasing saline note running from start to finish with a gentle grip. This is a very commendable valedictory wine |

VM 96 (1/2018): Bright medium red. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of red cherry, raspberry, underbrush, rose petal and salty minerality; wonderfully subtle and complex. Silky on entry, then densely packed but weightless in the mid-palate, displaying outstanding inner-mouth spicy, floral lift to its intense red fruit and saline mineral flavors. A creamy, utterly seamless old-vines Chapelle with extremely refined tannins and inexorable subtle rising length. Outstanding--but will this wine shut down hard in bottle? Really captures the best qualities of the vintage without sacrificing its typicity. (Drink between 2026-2040) BH 94 (4/2018): This displays noticeable wood influence though here it's more in the form of menthol than toast though it's not so much as to materially impede the appreciation of the notably ripe red cherry and overtly floral-scented nose where ample hints of the sauvage and warm earth eventually appear. There is remarkably good concentration as the old vine sap is immediately evident whilst coating the palate and pushing the markedly firm tannic spine to the background on the powerful and intensely mineral-driven if noticeably warm finale. Despite the impressive size, weight and power this is actually more refined than usual but even so, it's going to require a very long snooze in an appropriately cool cellar. In sum, this is seriously good Chapelle. (Drink starting 2035). |

BH 92-94 (4/2017): Notes of wood and menthol combine with those of red currant, dark raspberry and plenty of earth and game scents. The velvety yet quite powerful big-bodied flavors also brim with sappy dry extract that pushes the otherwise notably firm tannic spine to the background on the built-to-age, balanced and wonderfully persistent finale. Drink 2032+. WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a voluminous and extravagant bouquet with blooms of red berry fruit, although I found myself more drawn to the complex and intellectual Clos Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. This is a masculine, assertive Clos de la Roche, quite saline in the mouth with a feisty, spicy finish. This is a fine grand cru from Louis Jadot, though not one of their top releases this vintage. VM 90-92 (1/2017): (a blend of purchased wine from two sources): Good full red. Aromas of cherry, herbs and oak show a youthfully medicinal quality. Powerful but a touch dry; this strikes me a bit energetically extracted at the expense of the vintage's potential silkiness. The medicinal menthol quality is complicated by notes of brown spices and earth, but the wine's primary fruit is very much in the background today. Finishes dry and imploded, with strong tannins. Not my favorite style of Clos de la Roche. Jadot has eight barrels of this wine, four made via a classic vinification, according to Barnier, and four using more modern, extractive techniques. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 94+ (2/2019): Bright medium red. Wonderfully pure, inviting nose combines strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, spices, white pepper and blood orange: I might have picked this essence of Burgundy as a Chambolle-Musigny! Plush, silky and fine-grained but tactile and substantial as well, boasting terrific energy for its vintage. (The vines benefited from the cooler temperatures and well-timed rainfall in August, which enable the wine to retain freshness, noted Frederic Barnier.) The wine's very primary red berry, spice and floral flavors display seductive sweetness but a strong element of saline minerality accentuates the overall dry impression. A great wine in the making, showing an almost peppery vibrancy today; I would not be surprised if this shut down in the bottle in the near future. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 93 (1/2018): Bright medium ruby-red. Purple fruits, licorice and violet on the nose; a bit darker and less plummy than the Champans. Then wonderfully sweet, seamless and mouthfilling, offering captivating inner-mouth perfume and outstanding pliancy for a wine with a pH of 3.35. Tightens up a bit on the back end, finishing with serious but suave, harmonious tannins and subtle rising length. This wine is a good bet to go on in bottle for two decades, but will it go through a dumb stage along the way? Stephen Tanzer. BH 92-95 (4/2017): ( from 40+ year old vines planted in shallow, high clay content soil sitting on a bed of solid rock.) This is also brilliantly spicy with its ultra-pure and pretty essence of black raspberry, floral and warm-earth suffused aromas. Like the Champans there is excellent underlying tension supporting the broad-shouldered flavors that are even more mineral-driven on the muscular, taut and driving finish. This wine always ages well and typically needs quite a bit of it and this terrific effort will be no exception. This could well rival the 1999, 2005 and 2010 versions in time. Drink 2030+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

| BH 94 (1/2018): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 50+ years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 25+ years of age; made with 100% whole cluster.) Here too the nose is quite ripe yet very fresh with its layered array of spicy and markedly floral-inflected black cherry and plum scents that are trimmed in both discreet wood and menthol nuances. There is impressive size, weight and power to the more mineral-driven and refined medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by a distinctly firm tannic spine on the wonderfully persistent and mildly austere finale. This is first-rate and one serious wine in 2015 and thus be prepared to allow it at least 10 to 12 years first. Drink 2027+. |

| BH 89 (1/2018): (a .78 ha parcel of vines between 50 and 70 years of age.) This is also sufficiently reduced to require a thorough aeration if you're tempted to sip this in its youth. The medium-bodied flavors possess a slightly finer and rounder mouthfeel while delivering fine length on the slightly more tightly wound and mildly austere finale. This needs at least a few years to round out and mellow. Drink 2023+. Outstanding! |

VM 93+ (1/2018): Good medium red. Wild nose offers hints of superripe red raspberry, mocha and leather, with a fresher violet note emerging with air. A very ripe, almost roasted style with terrific chewy concentration--and more juicy purple-fruit lift than the nose would suggest. Finishes with a powerful spine of chewy tannins and very good precision. Stephen Tanzer. WA 94-96 (12/2016): The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from the Mazoyères sector, has a gorgeous bouquet in the making with joyful red berry fruit mixed with cold stone and subtle oyster shell aromas, the 30% new oak deftly integrated and barely noticeable. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy, vibrant opening. There are layers of tart red cherry fruit, crushed strawberry, citrus peel and quince fanning out wonderful towards the finish, which exerts a gentle but insistent grip. What a fabulous Charmes-Chambertin from Laurent and Hubert Lignier. BH 91-93 (1/2017): (from a tiny .10 ha parcel of vines in Mazoyères.) A hint of wood spice frames brooding if very fresh and layered aromas of red fruits, earth, underbrush and humus. The rich, naturally sweet, sappy and again, beautifully textured medium full-bodied flavors are quite round and balanced yet the finish is almost robust and decidedly powerful. This is an interesting wine as it is at once succulent yet very serious. Drink 2027+. |

| BH 91-93 (10/2016): Soft wood notes float atop the beautifully spicy, ripe and fresh aromas of both red and dark currant, earth and a hint of cinnamon. There is terrific underlying material to the rich and wonderfully refined medium weight flavors that possess fine volume and mid-palate concentration that coats the palate on the lingering finish that is shaped by dense but fine tannins. This is first-rate and about the only nit of notice is a hint of backend warmth. (Drink starting 2021). |

BH 91-94 (4/2017): This is also appealingly elegant with its pretty liqueur-like red pinot fruit, spice, sandalwood and subtle earth scents. The mouth feel of the slightly bigger and richer flavors remains refined, lacy and focused with a lovely sense of underlying tension that continues onto the markedly firmer finish. Lovely. VM 92-94 (1/2017): Good dark red. Subdued but precise aromas of raspberry, cherry and flowers. Compellingly intense and lively in the mouth, offering terrific juicy cut to its red fruit and mineral flavors. This beauty boasts a firm spine of acidity and finishes with lovely ripeness and lingering perfume. Stephen Tanzer. WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Champans has a very pure, very attractive bouquet with mineral-tinged red cherry and cranberry fruit that is equidistant in style between Pommard and Volnay. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. I love the tension here, that nascent energy and salinity towards the finish that actually does veer towards Pommard in terms of structure. Excellent. |

Excellent. |

| VM 94 (1/2018): (100% vendange entier; one-third new oak): Healthy dark red. Complex but reticent aromas of kirsch and blueberry lifted by a floral quality. A bit youthfully withdrawn but lively and polished in the mouth, with a floral perfume that's rare for this drought year. Wonderfully classy, refined Volnay with outstanding subtle sweetness and energy and a very long finish featuring utterly suave tannins. A great young Volnay in the making. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 94+ (1/2018): (100% vendange entier; 60% new oak): Good medium red; not particularly dark. Subtle medicinal reserve to the aromas of black cherry and cocoa powder enlivened by a floral topnote. Boasts outstanding density and finesse of texture--no rough edges here!--but still quite tightly wound and in a shell today. Youthfully restrained but the exhilarating balance between almost inky dark fruits and saline minerality is already obvious. This wine has the concentration and tannic clout for the long term but will need extended cellaring to deliver on its full potential; at that point, it should merit an even higher rating. For his part, Brian Sieve believes this fruit was harvested a bit later than ideal (on September 6). Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 91 (1/2018): (the yield here was about 33 hectoliters per hectare, vs. an estate-wide average of 28 in 2015): Bright ruby-red. Subtle scents of boysenberry, blackberry, bitter chocolate and anise. Concentrated, tactile Beaune premier cru with layered dark berry flavors and lovely integrated sweetness. This very fine-grained, harmonious wine finishes with sweet dark fruits and suave tannins. This wine showed good power but a slight rusticity from barrel a year ago; it's more classy in its finished form. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90 (4/2018): A very ripe nose of stewed plum, spice and wood leads lavishly rich, concentrated and mouth coating full-bodied flavors that are also quite generously proportioned. The ample amounts of dry extract impart a velvety, even opulent palate impression that also buffers the medium firm tannins on the slightly warm finish. Drink 2025+. |

| VM 95+ (1/2018): Full medium red. Multidimensional nose combines black cherry, dark raspberry, mocha, brown spices, crushed rock and mellow soil tones. Wonderfully concentrated and elegant, and more expressive in the early going if a bit less sappy than the Chapelle-Chambertin. Offers a mix of red and black fruits (the Chapelle is more black in character) as well as a medicinal menthol quality that suggests the wine will evolve slowly. This plush, broad, mouthfilling wine finishes very long, with suave, refined tannins and captivating minerality and savory soil tones. In a dozen years, my score may look low. The palate is medium-bodied with layers of sappy black and red fruit and a fine line of acidity, and quite mineral-driven with a lovely touch of piquancy on the detailed finish. Excellent. BH 94 (1/2018): (from a .16 ha parcel in Charmes proper of vines planted in 1885 that have never been pulled up though Roty points out that all those that have died over the years have been replanted.) This is almost as elegant as the Griotte but with a different aromatic profile that runs more toward a slightly darker range of fruit, earth, game and discreet violet notes where there is again plenty of wood influence. There is good refinement to the pure and beautifully detailed big-bodied and impressively concentrated flavors that brim with palate coating dry extract that buffers the very firm tannic spine on the hugely long but not especially austere and slightly warm finale. A classic Roty Charmes. Drink 2030+. VM 94-97 (1/2017): Full ruby-red. Very pure but youthfully brooding aromas of black fruits, licorice, violet and minerals. Strikingly sappy and primary, conveying near-painful intensity to its tightly wound black fruit and saline mineral flavors. This complete, impeccably balanced Charmes-Chambertin expands spectacularly on the rising, palate-staining back end, saturating the taste buds and leaving the mouth vibrating. A perfect blueprint for a 25+-year wine. A good portion of these vines date back to the vineyard's original post-Phylloxera graftings in 1881, but as the family has never used pesticides or chemical fertilizers these old vines still routinely yield a healthy crop--35 hectoliters per hectare in 2015. An overtly spicy and floral-scented nose reveals additional notes of plum, cassis, orange pekoe tea and plenty of earth. The rich, bold, powerful and firmly muscular large-scaled flavors possess superb mid-palate concentration where the abundant dry extract also buffers the presently unyielding tannic backbone on the massively long finish. This is, simply put, spectacular and about the only nit is a discreet touch of backend warmth. Drink 2035+. |

| BH 91 (1/2018): A more deeply pitched nose combines notes of dark currant, earth, underbrush and discreet humus nuances. There is fine richness and plenty of punch to the more voluminous and once again solidly concentrated flavors that are shaped by surprisingly sleek tannins on the firm, highly complex, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finish save for a trace of warmth. BH 98 (1/2018): (100% new wood.) Here too there is just enough oak to mention but once again it's not really enough to impair the purity of the distinctly cool and ultra-spicy red currant, underbrush, sandalwood, lilac and plenty of earth aromas. The rich, intense and overtly muscular big-bodied flavors possess a similar level of minerality that is borderline pungent and it informs the explosively long, firm and very serious finish. This notably powerful, but not really austere effort, displays magnificent potential and if it develops its usual degree of complexity over time it should merit the upper end of my projected range. But as structured and firm as it is, I suspect that this will drink well after only 6 to 8 years of age thanks to the incredible abundance of dry extract. Drink 2037+. VM 97-99 (1/2017): (12.8% natural alcohol chaptalized to 13.2%; Rousseau presented this wine before his Clos de Bèze because he finds the latter wine much more oaky in the early going): Dark, bright red with ruby highlights. Crushed black cherry, raspberry and spice aromas are lifted by a pungent floral topnote--"very ripe for this wine," notes Rousseau. At once utterly young and almost exotic, conveying extraordinary intensity and layered texture to its slightly high-toned flavors of raspberry, cherry, pomegranate, licorice and spices. An element of menthol reserve contributes to the wine's impression of brooding energy. Finishes with noble, seamless tannins and slowly mounting, explosive palate-staining length. Almost painful and almost perfect. Stephen Tanzer. WA 97-99 (12/2016): The 2015 Chambertin Grand Cru took a while to open in the glass, as it is prone towards. It has a very elegant bouquet once again, the fruit an equal mixture of red and black, a touch of cold flint in the background accompanied by blood orange and satsuma that emerge with time. The palate is blessed with beguiling symmetry and power, counterpoised by the killer line of acidity, leading to a mineral-rich finish that goes on forever. This is another Outstanding Chambertin from Rousseau that wine lovers will doubtlessly be fighting over for years to come. And you know what? I wouldn't blame them. |

BH 93 (1/2018): (from a blend of 3 1ers that include Corbeaux, En Ergot and Combottes; 100% whole cluster vinification.) This is perhaps the most floral-inflected wine in the range with its exceptionally pretty nose that reflects notes of lavender, lilac, rose and violet along with earthy and fresh red currant aromas that are trimmed in subtle but not invisible wood influence. This is also quite generously proportioned with fine mid-palate concentration to the medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the powerful and well-balanced finish. This very firmly structured effort is going to require extended cellaring to arrive its full apogee yet it's not so backward that it couldn't be enjoyed after 5-ish years of cellaring. In a word, excellent. Drink 2030+. Outstanding! VM 90 (1/2018): (the highest in octane of these 2015s at 14%; vinified with 50% whole clusters): Liqueur-like raspberry and plum on the nose. Generous, fat and rich in the middle palate, with captivating sweetness. Big, ripe tannins then shorten the wine's fruit on the back end, giving the finish a somewhat aggressive character. This wine struck me as much more vibrant and delineated from barrel in late 2016 but in bottle it's wanting in energy and definition. I'm not positive that this bottle is representative, but Trapet told me that he harvested this fruit on September 11, when grape sugars were skyrocketing. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 96 (1/2018): A discreet application of wood frames the even more complex nose of high-toned, cool and airy aromas of red and dark cherry, forest floor, rose petal and spice elements. The sleek, intense and once again highly sophisticated middle weight plus flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract that buffers the even firmer tannic spine shaping the hugely long and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is relatively succulent for a young Latricières but I suspect that the present inviting mouthfeel will be replaced in short order by something firmer and more austere. In short, this is stunningly good but it is not likely to make for especially inviting early drinking. Drink 2035+. VM 94 (1/2018): Good medium red. Subtle, deeply pitched nose combines dark berries, violet and a sexy, slightly wild smoky quality. Wonderfully rich and suave in the style of the vintage's best examples, but with surprising energy to frame the flavors of purple fruits, violet, earth and game. I love this wine's combination of sucrosite and whole-cluster (40%) pungency. The slowly-rising finish saturates the palate with fine-grained tannins and subtle, building minerality. | VM 89-92 (6/2017): The 2015 Chambertin-Clos de Bèze shows a lot of new oak today, which masks the fruit. But there is good depth, power and richness. Here, too, the wine gives the impression it needs time to fully come together. The new oak is a bit prominent at this stage, but there is good depth of fruit in the background. I imagine it will be a good few years at least before the Bèze is at its best. (Drink between 2025-2035). Antonio Galloni. |

BH 95-98 (1/2017): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha parcel planted to chardonnay.) Like the Amoureuses this too is kaleidoscopically spicy with its broad-ranging nose of red cherry, cassis, plum, violet, Asian-style tea, sandalwood and hoisin. The velvety and mouth coating imposingly-scaled and intense mineral-driven flavors are also blessed with seemingly endless reserves of dry extract that coat the palate on the highly seductive finish that delivers fantastically good length on the youthfully austere, backward and immaculately well-balanced finale. This too is going to require a very long snooze in a very cool cellar but it should be a remarkable Musigny when it emerges. Drink 2035+. Don't miss! VM 94-97 (1/2017): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and bitter chocolate are lifted by the most pungent minerality of this range. Combines compelling sweetness and density, but with a finesse of texture that gives this wine an improbably light touch. Remarkably dense but reserved wine, with purple berry liqueur and mineral flavors conveying terrific lift. Easily the best of these 2015s, finishing with a juicy whiplash of flavor. Here the tannins arrive very late and are perfectly integrated with the wine's fruit and soil elements. Still, this vibrant wine is extremely backward and unevolved in the early going and will require long aging. Winemaker François Millet expects to do a very light fining at the bottling. Stephen Tanzer. WA 95-97 (12/2016): The 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is initially more introspective compared to the Bonnes-Mares. Predominantly black fruit here with blueberry developing in the glass, there is a slight earthiness in character that shimmies towards floral scents as it opens. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin and more salinity than then Bonnes Mares or the Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses. It feels crunchy and fresh in the mouth with plenty of blueberry and blackberry towards the long and persistent finish. This is an Outstanding Musigny Vieilles Vignes of substance that will age over 30-40 years. |

VM 89 (1/2018): Bright medium red. Lively perfume of raspberry, blood orange and flowers. Very pretty, leanish wine with excellent intensity and definition to its flavors of red fruits and flowers. This delightful Bourgogne includes a lot of Beaune villages and premier cru fruit, as production in these vineyards was too tiny to merit separate bottlings. Leroux made 10,000 bottles of this wine, and it's one to seek out. WA 88 (12/2017): The 2016 Bourgogne Rouge was aged in wooden tank, bottled mid-October and includes a potpourri of vineyards from here, there and everywhere that had been frosted. This has a delightful bouquet with vivid red cherry and strawberry fruit that is well defined and probably more like a village cru. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh red berry fruit mixed with bay leaf and a touch of black tea. I was smitten by this modest generic red and I bet it will be good value for money. BH 87 (4/2018): A pretty and very fresh nose is composed by notes of both red and dark berries and soft earth wisps. The sleek and delicious middle weight flavors possess good volume and a relatively refined mouth feel before concluding in a mildly austere and lingering finale. This is really quite good and worth considering. (Drink starting 2020). |

There is terrific underlying material to the rich and wonderfully refined medium weight flavors that possess fine volume and mid-palate concentration that coats the palate on the lingering finish that is shaped by dense but fine tannins. VM 88 (3/2014): The 2011 Bourgogne is a pretty entry-level offering from Denis Bachelet. Blue/purplish fruit, sweet tobacco and licorice are some of the notes that inform the supple, easygoing finish. This is a terrific wine in its class. (Drink between 2014-2016). Antonio Galloni. WA 88 (2/2014): The entry-level 2011 Bourgogne Rouge has a lovely leafy bouquet with dark earthy fruit that feels natural and refined. WA 88-90 (6/2015): The 2012 Bourgogne comes from two parcels in “Les Pressonnier” and “Les Grand Champs” and sees no new oak. It has a captivating bouquet of brambly black fruit that is very well defined. The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit on the entry, nicely judged acidity and a natural, pastille-like finish. This is uncomplicated but astutely crafted, downright delicious Burgundy. VM 88-90 (1/2014): A great introduction to the vintage here, Bachelet's 2012 Bourgogne is endowed with superb depth and purity in its class. Red stone fruits, plums, spices, menthol and licorice inform this striking, expressive beauty. There is a surprising amount of structure for a Bourgogne. (Drink between 2014-2020). Antonio Galloni. BH 87-89 (1/2014): There is a gentle touch of wood to the spicy red and dark berry fruit aromas that convey a real sense of earth that carries over to the impressively rich and utterly delicious flavors that despite the obvious ripeness retain a fine sense of energy and freshness on the lingering finish. This is a really good Bourgogne and absolutely worth a look. (Drink starting 2016). |

It has an engaging, quite exuberant bouquet of vibrant red fruit infused with hints of violet; the oak is deftly enmeshed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a little tighter than the Fixin Village and with more backbone and volume toward the finish. Amélie Berthaut told me that she will probably bottle this later than the Fixin Village, and I suspect it will gain a little density by then. One to watch. (Drink between 2021-2029). Neal Martin. |

BH 89-92 (4/2018): An expressive nose speaks of essence of raspberry, earth, sauvage and a hint of wood. The dense super-ripe flavors brim with dry extract that coats the palate and imparts a velvety mouth feel to the mocha, bitter cherry pit and slightly warm finale. This muscular and mildly rustic effort is a very ripe 2016 yet the overall impression is one of freshness and energy. VM 89-92 (1/2018): Good dark red. Very ripe scents of dark raspberry and chocolate. Quite powerful but youthfully bound-up, with the impression of chocolatey richness carrying through the palate. Finishes with big but fine-grained tannins and a serious structure. Perhaps a bit overconcentrated but not out of whack. This wine will clearly need time in bottle to absorb some of its baby fat. BH 92 (4/2025): (from 25+ year old vines). An elegant, pure and airy nose is beautifully layered with its mix of spicy red and black pinot fruit aromas. Drink 2031+. JM 92-94 (10/2024): A fine crimson purple. A little fresher than the Frémiets, with pure red fruit, cherry and raspberry, a little more mouthfilling, stays youthful all the way through, very well mastered, an impressive Chevrets. BH 91 (4/2025): Here the expressive nose is slightly riper and spicier with a similar mix of red and dark berries and exotic tea along with more floral elements. The sleek, caressing and nicely punchy middle weight flavors possess adequate mid-palate density together a refined, long and balanced finale. This is perhaps a bit finer than it usually is with solid development potential. Drink 2031+. JM 90-93 (10/2024): Frémiets, the limestone radiator, says Henri. Picked in good time, as the perfume of ripe raspberry with a little soft strawberry indicates. Satisfying across the palate with some energy at the finish, fully ripe but has kept its balance and with adequate acidity. The tannins are fully ripe. Drink from 2029-2034. |

WA 92 (1/2023): The 2020 Marsannay Clos de Jeu has turned out especially well, offering up aromas of sweet cherries, mulberries, licorice and toasty new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate that's deep and vibrant, with powdery tannins and a precise finish. VM 90 (1/2023): The 2020 Marsannay Clos de Jeu offers more red fruit on the nose than its Marsannay brethren, slightly savoury with crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, nicely proportioned with a more refined and tensile finish than other cuvées. Recommended. (Drink between 2025-2035). Neal Martin. BH 89 (1/2023): This is aromatically quite similar to the Boivin though with a note of red cherry coulis. The dense, powerful and muscular medium weight flavors are not quite as vibrant though they are just as firm, serious and youthfully austere on the better-balanced finale though note that there is a touch of warmth. WA 91+ (1/2023): The 2020 Marsannay Les Ouzeloy is showing very well, bursting with notes of dark berries and plums mingled with licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with good concentration and powdery structuring tannins, it's built for the cellar. VM 87 (1/2023): The 2020 Marsannay Les Ouzeloy has a tight-knit nose with blueberry and boysenberry fruit that retain fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, figgy entry, perhaps quite Tuscan in style with good length on the finish. Fine. (Drink between 2025-2038). Neal Martin. BH 87 (1/2023): Completely opaque appearance. The very ripe yet quite fresh and expressive nose presents aromas of red and dark cherry, poached plum and newly turned earth. There is outstanding concentration to the suave, mouthcoating and almost thick flavors are buffered almost impressive intensity on the rustic, firm and moderately grippy finish that also comes up somewhat short. This is also completely atypical. (Drink starting 2028). |

VM 88 (10/2019): The 2016 Volnay Les Angles 1er Cru comes across a little confit-like on the nose, suggesting that it might have been picked a day or two too late. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, quite bold and assertive in style with a slightly monotone finish that never kicks on. I wonder if this Volnay is simply undergoing an awkward stage? Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting in Burgundy. (Drink between 2021-2032). Neal Martin. BH 90-92 (1/2018): A relatively high-toned and more elegant nose features notes of red currant, cherry, raspberry and a hint of lavender. The super-sleek, indeed almost lacy middle weight flavors display more minerality if less density before terminating in a lingering finish that tightens up noticeably on the dusty and mildly austere finale. VM 88-90 (1/2025): The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge Bon Baton comes from a parcel adjacent to Ghislaine Barthod's on stonier soils, aged mostly in one-year-old barrels. Lightly perfumed on the nose, this conjures raspberry, strawberry and wild hedgerow scents, more complex than your common or garden Bourgogne Rouge. The palate is medium-bodied with satisfying concentration, not weighty or dense but light on its feet with commendable purity and grip on the finish. Traces of tobacco emerge on the aftertaste. Village Cru in quality. (Drink between 2026-2031). Neal Martin. JM 87-89 (10/2024): An even purple colour. A very attractive stylish perfumed floral nose, with a little more body than the regular. Not massively concentrated but distinguished in its length. Sound acidity. The flavours stay with you. Drink from 2026-2030. BH 86-89 (1/2025): A slightly riper and more deeply pitched nose features aromas of dark cherry, poached plum and freshly turned earth. The delicious if not especially dense flavors do possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before culminating in a youthfully austere, lingering and mildly austere finale. BH 91-93 (1/2025): (from the villages portion of the vineyard.) A more elegant, more floral and more expressive nose freely offers up its mostly cool red cherry, spice and a similar hint of crushed anise. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is positively gorgeous, even silky, with an almost pungent minerality adding a sense of lift to the long, balanced and youthfully austere finale. This is a stunningly good Chambolle villages that would make many a premier cru blush - highly recommended. Drink 2031+. Outstanding! JM 90-93 (10/2024): An even ruby purple. Here the nose stands up and speaks of the vineyard, with nothing too solar in style. The dark raspberry fruit, with some cherry overtones, fills the palate very nicely with a positive structure of medium tannins and a little acidity provide an interesting rearguard, Drink from 2028-2034. VM 88-90 (1/2025): The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras has a fresh and expressive bouquet of black cherries, raspberry and subtle violet scents, gradually revealing just a hint of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied with a taut opening. Leaner than the 2022 with moderate length, this just requires a little more flesh toward the citric finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle. | |
VM 91-93 (1/2025): The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Barrières comes from a single 0.70-hectare parcel in the north of the appellation. It doesn't quite click into gear on the nose like the wonderful 2022, rather it is perhaps more discrete with loamy scents percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm grip. Fine tannins and a conspicuous, almost briny marine influence develop toward the finish, lending another dimension. It coheres nicely in the glass and it should give 12 to 15 years' drinking pleasure. (Drink between 2027-2042). Neal Martin. JM 90-92 (10/2024): Ruby with a crimson rim. Less immediately expressive than the Nuits-St-Georges Vieilles Vignes, with in any case a different fruit profile, demonstrating the terroir of the north side of Nuits, beginning to flirt with Vosne-Romanée. The class shows on the second half of the palate and in the persistence, across more refined tannins. Horses for courses. Drink from 2028-2033. BH 89-91 (1/2025): (from a .70 ha holding.) An equally cool and slightly spicier nose speaks of the essence of red plum, newly turned earth and dark currant. The very supple, even caressing medium weight flavors possess fine punch and a subtle minerality on the firm, powerful and serious finale. Fine quality here as well. Drink 2031+. Outstanding! |

It's an especially charming, fragrant rendition of this perennially reliable cuvée. BH 89-91 (1/2023): A more deeply pitched nose offers up its notes of various dark berries, cool earth and a hint of crushed fennel. The delicious middle weight flavors are at once sleek and juicy with a clean mouthfeel that continues onto the youthfully austere and moderately firm finale. This is a very fine Bourgogne and worth checking out. Drink 2024+. |

BH 87 (4/2025): (from vineyards in Santenay, Marsannay and the lower portions of Volnay). This is unusually pretty for a Bourgogne with its array of ripe plum and violet scents. There is fine volume to the utterly delicious and solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that display impressive length on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This is a quality Bourgogne and worth a look, especially for value. Drink 2026+. JM 86-88 (10/2024): The Bourgogne includes fruit from Pernand and Santenay and Marsannay. Rich deep purple, very ripe cherry, not cooked, but in the opulent style. Slightly firm fruit behind, with a certain glossiness before the crunchy finish. Drink from 2026-2028. |

JM 86-87 (10/2024): A fine red to crimson colour, with an agreeable immediate red fruit nose, no great concentration but nicely made. Perfumed with some cherries, a slight hardness at the finish still needing time to soften – recently racked – and good acidity. Some young vines in this. Drink from 2026-2028. BH 86-89 (1/2025): (from Chambolle vines.) An expressive and fresh nose offers up notes of red and blue pinot fruit laced with earth and discreet spice nuances. The supple, delicious and fleshy middle weight flavors conclude in a refreshing and long finish where a touch of rusticity eventually surfaces. Solid quality here. Outstanding! |

JM 90-93 (10/2023): A rich purple colour. The bouquet has the attractive sumptuous qualities of fully ripe fruit picked before it starts to turn. A peppery note helps to maintain the freshness, the fruit flows beautifully across the palate, quite complex and perfectly balanced. Drink from 2028-2035. BH 89-91 (1/2024): ( from Les Danguerrins, Aux Croix and Babillières.) Here too there is just enough wood to merit mentioning on the ripe if decidedly cool aromas of red and dark pinot fruit, anise, violet and a hint of exotic tea. Once again there is a really lovely texture to the lacy and delicious middleweight flavors that exhibit solid length on the balanced and mildly austere finish that could use slightly better depth. Drink 2029+. |

VM 90-92 (1/2025): The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from vines over 50 years old from three lieux-dits. Tightly knit on the nose, this adds just a soupçon of blue fruit to the bouquet that's a little floral with admirable vigor. Just a hint of kirsch emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip on the entry. This is a solid Chambolle-Musigny, though the finish should be tighter with more flow. It's just a bit static at the moment. Give this a couple of years in bottle. (Drink between 2027-2040). NEal Martin. JM 89-91 (10/2024): Purchased grapes. Medium purple with a lighter rim. This carries Chambolle qualities, some violets, not quite the coffee, medium bodied, good acidity again, a mid-range Chambolle for the medium term. Drink from 2027-2031. BH 88-91 (1/2025): (from Les Danguerrins, Aux Croix and Babillières). A pretty if brooding nose is comprised by notes of various dark berries, violet and crushed anise. The super-sleek, delicious and intense medium-bodied flavors are not particularly dense but they do possess, much like the CdNV, a highly seductive mouthfeel before concluding in a youthfully austere and ever-so-mildly edgy finish. The edginess will probably round out if given a few years and note that my projected range offers the benefit of the doubt. Drink 2029+. |

VM 89-91 (1/2025): The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages comprises two-thirds fruit purchased from Clombanchien, and the rest Domaine fruit from En Luret lieu-dit. Blackcurrant and raspberry combine nicely on the nose, not concentrated per se, yet showing decent clarity and purity. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly granular texture on the entry, lightly peppered though there are no stems in the blend. Focused and harmonious toward the finish, this is a worthy follow-up to the 2022. (Drink between 2027-2037). Neal Martin. JM 89-90 (10/2024): A mix of their own vines, one third from Au Leurey, and the rest purchases in Comblanchien. There is more depth to the purple colour here. A perfumed nose with a more sensual and floral bouquet redolent of the sunshine. Good acidity behind, medium density, some length. Drink from 2027-2030. BH 88-91 (1/2025): (mostly from Belle-Vue in Comblanchien with small amounts of Les Loges, Les Leurey and Vaucrains.) This is aromatically similar to the Bon Bâtons but with notably more spice influence. The supple, delicious and energetic medium weight flavors possess a highly seductive, even velvety, texture while displaying very good length and depth on the balanced bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. Drink 2028+. |
