| BH 88 (4/2018): A peppery and earthy mix of red and dark pinot fruit slides into vibrant, rich and fleshy medium-bodied flavors that possess subtle traces of rusticity and youthful austerity on the delicious and balanced finish. This well-made effort should drink well young if that's your preference. (Drink starting 2021). |

WA 90 (1/2021): The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Village wafts from the glass with notes of orange oil, white flowers, Anjou pear, mint and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's bright and lively, with fine concentration, tangy acids and a nicely defined finish. BH 90 (6/2021): Hints of matchstick character and petrol add breadth to the white peach and citrus confit scented nose. The dense, vibrant and appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors are notably less refined but more powerful while exhibiting fine length on the compact, long and serious finale. This is a very good Chassagne villages and worth considering. |

BH 89-92 (6/2022): The underlying fruit is presently masked by just enough reduction to blur the nuance. More interesting are the solidly concentrated and sappy flavors that possess even better volume before culminating in a mouth coating and unusually powerful finish that possess excellent depth and persistence for a wine at this level. Very fine quality for a villages-level Chassagne and well-worth checking out. VM 89-91 (12/2021): The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Village had been blended and fined. This is well-defined on the nose with lemon sherbet and light orange zest aromas, a very subtle mineral note that surfaces with time. The palate is well balanced with a hint of quince on the entry, quite taut and linear, plenty of freshness towards with just a very discrete pithiness. A fine Chassagne-Montrachet. Neal Martin. |

| BH 87 (6/2020): (85% from Meursault and Puligny Bourgogne vines and the rest from declassified St. Romain and Auxey-Duresses in equal proportions.) There is a very subtle whiff of the exotic to the citrus and petrol-tinged aromas of white peach and soft wood. The intense, indeed even racy, well-detailed flavors exude a bead of minerality on the saline, dry and lingering finish. This is really quite good for its level and worth checking out. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

BH 93 (6/2020): Once again there is a discreet whiff of exotic fruit to the white peach, spiced tea and dried yellow fruit aromas where a background hint of viognier creeps in. The caressing and unusually sleek medium-bodied flavors possess fine volume and focused power on the caressing and refreshingly saline-inflected finish. This is particularly good in the context of a very hot and dry vintage which is not usually especially propitious for Criots. Drink 2028+. WA 94 (1/2020): Aromas of orange oil, honeycomb, ripe pears, wheat toast and paraffin wax introduce the 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, ample and textural wine that's fleshy and enveloping but underpinned by an impressively chalky structure that brings unusual tension and grip to this inherently generous terroir. |

BH 93 (6/2020): Naturally exotic and overtly spicy aromas include whiffs of jasmine tea, lemongrass and apple compote. The wonderfully refined and subtly stony middle weight flavors are at once intense yet delicate, all wrapped in a Zen-like finish. This is really lovely stuff and so well-balanced it should age effortlessly. Drink 2028+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 93 (1/2020): The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières reveals aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, peach, spring blossom, honeycomb and praline, followed by a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated palate that's chalky and structured, built around lively acids and appreciable dry extract. |

BH 94 (6/2020): (from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières.) A whiff of matchstick is present on the elegant and highly restrained aromas of acacia blossom, spice, white orchard fruit and a hint of Asian-style tea. There is excellent volume and minerality to the strikingly textured medium-bodied flavors that display outstanding complexity on the balanced, dry and impressively persistent finish. This is one very classy wine that is already wonderfully harmonious. Drink 2028+. Don't miss! Outstanding! WA 95 (1/2020): Boillot's emblematic 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère has turned out brilliantly, wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, hazelnut, dried white flowers, citrus oil, blanched almonds and smoke. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, with terrific concentration, searing levels of extract and a long, mineral finish. |

BH 93 (6/2020): A touch of unabsorbed SO2 doesn't seriously detract from the pretty, airy and nicely layered aromas of apple, pear and white flower scents. The super-sleek, intense and mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess excellent verve and cut, all wrapped in a strikingly long, balanced and built-to-age finish. This is excellent and should also age effortlessly for a decade plus. Drink 2028+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 93 (1/2020): Aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, blanched almonds and crushed chalk preface the 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières, a medium to full-bodied, racy and incisive wine that's chalky and tensile, with lively acids and a saline finish. This has turned out very well indeed. |

| |
WA 94 (1/2020): Boillot's 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles reveals aromas of orange oil, white flowers and peaches, complemented by classy top notes of nutmeg and warm bread. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, with quite a tensile, tight-knit core for this typically enveloping premier cru. But looking back through my notes, that often seems to be the case chez Boillot. BH 92 (6/2020): Here too there is a touch of residual SO2 that may require decanting so that the elegant aromas of honeysuckle, acacia, lilac and poached pear aromas can be appreciated. There is a bit more volume if not quite the same minerality and precision to the beautifully textured flavors that are quite seductive before concluding in a delicious if mildly sweet and warm finish. This is lovely but doesn't possess the class and distinction of the Perrières or Clos de la Mouchère. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! |

| BH 91 (10/2020): Hints of matchstick and exotic tea add breadth to the ripe, pure and pretty floral and poached pear-scented nose that is trimmed in just enough wood to comment on. The elegant middle weight flavors possess a lilting mouthfeel before concluding in a lightly stony, sleek, focused and persistent finish that gradually reveals just a touch of sweetness. This is particularly fine though it will need to develop more depth to merit its rating so do hold it for at least a few years. (Drink starting 2024). |

| BH 86-88 (6/2020): A more elegant though less complex nose is composed by notes of green apple and citrus rind. WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |

| WA 95 (8/2021): The 2018 Pouilly-Fuissé Ménétrières is the most muscular wine in the range, unwinding in the glass with aromas of Anjou pear, crisp green apple, citrus zest, hazelnuts and almonds. Full-bodied, fleshy and broad-shouldered, with a taut core of concentrated fruit that's girdled by lively acids and chalky dry extract, it concludes with a long, saline finish. |

| BH 93 (6/2020): ( from a .33 ha parcel in Les Languettes.) A much more restrained nose reluctantly offers up its array of exceptionally floral-infused aromas that include those of acacia, lilac and rose petal along with hints of Granny Smith apples and lemongrass. There is outstanding volume and power to the relatively refined larger-scaled flavors that are much, much more mineral-driven on the youthfully austere, serious and compact finish. This beauty will need at least a few years of keeping first and should amply reward 10 to 12. Drink 2028+. |

| BH 93 (10/2020): Once again, the nose is both fresh and ripe and while it's not quite as elegant and airy as the Côte Bouguerots there is every bit as much classic Chablis character. There is a really lovely mouthfeel to the sappy large-bodied flavors thanks to the copious quantity of dry extract that also serves to buffer the moderately firm acid spine on the powerful, punchy and intensely saline-inflected finale. While there is a hint of backend warmth, this beautiful effort should age well while adding depth along the way. |

WA 94 (2/2020): Blockier and denser than the Criots, the 2018 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru unfurls in the glass with scents of honeycomb, orange oil, white flowers and toasted nuts. Full-bodied, fleshy and textural, it's lively and long, its rich core of fruit underpinned by ripe acids. Broad-shouldered and expressive, this will drink well sooner than the tighter-knit 2017. BH 93 (6/2020): This is at once both fresher and more elegant with its floral suffused aromas of spiced pear, apple, spice and admirably discreet wood. There is good vibrancy if only average density to the sleek, refined and reasonably well-detailed medium weight flavors that display outstanding length on the very dry finale. This needs to develop better depth to achieve my rating but given the lovely balance and tightly wound finish, it has the potential to do so. |

WA 94 (2/2020): Dramatic and expressive, the 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru exhibits aromas of orange rind, peach, honeyed pears and marzipan. Full-bodied, supple and textural, it's an enveloping but youthfully structured wine that will reward at least a couple of years of bottle age. Céline Gagnard told me that this site handled the hot conditions well. BH 92? (6/2020): This rachets up the ripeness level even more with its overtly exotic aromas of apricot, peach, tangerine and mango along with a curious hint of caramel. The big-bodied and serious flavors possess a luscious mid-palate though there is plenty of power to the sappy finish that is borderline flat. As the description suggests, this is somewhat awkward and diffuse. It may well recover but it's not clear that this is going to be at its usual excellent level. VM 91+ (11/2022): The 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has an open, tropical-tinged bouquet that is quite seductive with all those passion fruit and pineapple scents, but it does not convey a sense of mineralité. It actually becomes more reductive when returning to my glass after 10 minutes. The palate is balanced with a slightly spiced opening, oily in texture (botrytis?) with plenty of extract. Rather dense and muscular towards the finish. Give this two or three years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. Neal Martin. |

WA 95 (2/2020): Aromas of clear honey, blanched almonds and pear mingle with hints of citrus blossom and orange oil, introducing the 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, elegantly textural wine that's supple and enveloping, with lovely depth and dimension at the core, underpinned by lively acids. Long and perfumed, this is an elegant, expressive Montrachet from Fontaine-Gagnard. VM 94 (1/2020): The 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru has a much more intense, richer bouquet compared to the domaine’s other two grand crus, offering scents of dried honey, quince, honeysuckle and jasmine, all very well defined and determined to make an impression. The powerful, voluminous palate is well balanced with a fine seam of acidity, superb grip and an outstanding finish that fans out. This is a Montrachet with a great crescendo. A great "Monty" from the domaine, although just one-and-a-half barrels were produced this year. Neal Martin. BH 93 (6/2020): Not completely surprisingly, this is the most reserved wine in the range with its reluctant array of green fruit, acacia, wide range of spice elements and a dollop of toasty oak. There is fine richness to the broad-shouldered flavors that exhibit focused power on the sleekly muscular and impressively long finish. This will likely surpass the Bâtard in time but for now, they are qualitative equals. |

VM 93 (11/2022): Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru White) The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru has quite a rich, well-defined bouquet, with a touch of white peach, dried honey and peach skin. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Harmonious with good tension and judicious use of extract that lends substance on the finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. (Drink between 2024-2040). Neal Martin. WA 92+ (4/2021): The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle (Duc de Magenta) is showing nicely from bottle, unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, crisp yellow orchard fruit, fresh apricot, pastry cream and toasted macadamia nut. This is medium to full-bodied, tangy and tightly wound, with racy acids and a phenolic finish. It should develop nicely in the cellar and once again represents one of the longer-haul propositions in the range. |

| JM 87 (11/2019): One plot of 3ha from Mâcon-Lugny. Vinified by Thibault but at the Cave de Lugny. Kept in tank. A lovely little green tint to the colour, fresh and delicious nose, sunshine and spring flowers, not too opulent. Will be fined for the protein. Yellow pears and plums, pineapple, too exotic to be a Côte d’Or Bourgogne but lovely wine nonetheless. |

| BH 92 (6/2020): ( from Pernand fruit.) Cool and restrained aromas are comprised by aromas of green apple, mineral reduction, airy floral and an interesting hint of tangerine peel. There is both good volume and intensity to the beautifully delineated and overtly mineral-driven flavors that possess riper acidity on the balanced citrus-tinged finale. This needs to develop more depth but the potential aging curve is such that it should develop in time. Drink 2028+. |

| BH 91 (6/2021): A mild touch of reduction is sufficiently subtle to permit the notes of white flowers, citrus rind and discreet wood to be discerned. There is an attractive sense of underlying tension to the delicious medium weight flavors that possess focused power and good delineation on the lingering finish that flirts with rusticity. This well-made effort needs to develop more depth but it appears to have the requisite density to do so. (Drink starting 2028). |

| BH 97 (6/2021): Even with air the nose remains exceptionally restrained and even aggressive swirling barely reveals the highly spiced aromas of white peach, pear, just sliced fennel, jasmine tea and, like the Chevalier, a touch of mintiness along with the barest nuance of wood. There is fine though not massive density to the refined yet powerful and muscular larger-scaled flavors that possess almost painful intensity on the bone-dry, clean and taut finish that is seriously long because just as it seems to be dying away, it suddenly returns. In the category of a nit, there is noticeable warmth even if it's not really enough to impair the overall sense of balance. As one would expect from one of the most storied wines in all of Burgundy, this sports serious upside development potential which I would peg at between 12 and 15 years for the 2018 version of the Ramonet Montrachet. (Drink starting 2030). |

BH 95 (10/2020): This is perhaps the most elegant and floral-infused wine in the range with its array of various white flower scents, especially acacia that are nuanced by wisps of ocean breeze, iodine and algae. The restrained and well-detailed flavors possess a sophisticated and refined mouthfeel while the stony and chiseled finish exhibiting excellent persistence on the bone-dry finish. This is class in a glass and a stunning rendition of the appellation though note well that at least moderate patience is strongly advised. (Drink starting 2030). VM 91 (9/2020): The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a touch more tropical fruit on the nose compared to the Les Butteaux, offering faint passion fruit, white peach and apricot scents with aeration. Lovely definition. The palate is well balanced with a slight waxiness on the entry, and a little pithy in style. Hints of yellow plum and spices emerge toward a finish that develops an appealing creamy texture with time. Excellent. But personally I prefer the nervosité of the Butteaux. (Drink between 2021-2032). WA 92 (8/2021): The 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is performing well in bottle, mingling notes of crisp green apple and honeycomb with hints of oyster shell, orange oil and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, its ample core of fruit is girdled by bright acids, before concluding with a saline finish. |

| VM 90+ (6/2007): Ruby-red. Brooding aromas of kirsch, blackcurrant and cured tobacco are brightened by suggestions of iron and dried violet. Focused dark berry and cherry flavors show impressive concentration and a chewy texture and are nicely firmed by youthful tannins. The solid finish features strikingly sweet cherry and mocha flavors. Finishes with surprising energy and excellent lift, echoing the bitter cherry and tobacco qualities. |

| VM 92 (6/2010): ivid ruby. An intensely floral bouquet displays wilted rose, magnolia, black raspberry and incense. Supple and broad on entry, turning more tangy and energetic in the middle and offering lively red and dark berry flavors and an exotic candied floral quality. The finish repeats the red fruit note and lingers with very good tangy persistence. I'll bet that this will be even better in a year or two. |

| |
| VM 92+ (6/2011): Deep ruby. More musky and powerful than the Keefer Ranch bottling, showing dark berry and cherry character and notes of smoked meat and mocha. Broad, chewy and powerful, offering rich cherry compote and black raspberry flavors and a note of bitter chocolate. Quite a bit richer than the excellent 2008, which is lovely right now, by the way. Finishes on a sneaky note of candied rose, with solid punch. Give this some time in bottle. |

| VM 88+ (6/2006): Ruby-red. Musky aromas of black cherry, blackberry, tar, pepper and game. Sweet and dense if a bit youthfully reduced, with solid, chunky fruit lifted by spice and pepper notes. Finishes with rather powerful but slightly dry tannins. I suspect this will be more harmonious by the time it's released in the spring of 2007. |

VM 90 (6/2007): Dark red. Very ripe, rather powerful aromas of cherry, cassis, tobacco and roasted coffee. Deep and weighty, with concentrated cherry and dark berry liqueur flavors; firm, youthful tannins; and building notes of musky underbrush and succulent herbs. Not the last word in finesse but undeniably impressive, finishing on a dense, sweet kirsch note. Serve this with peppery grilled steaks or even game. WA 86 (8/2007): The 2005 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard reveals tart acidity, high alcohol, and a monolithic, chunky character without the complexity and nuances of the other Santa Lucia wines made from this vineyard. |

| VM 90 (6/2008): Dark red. Vibrant red and dark berry aromas are complemented by baking spices, licorice and musky underbrush. Gains energy on the finish, which is impressively spicy, fresh and long. |

VM 89+ (6/2006): Good full red. Exotic blackberry, raspberry, minerals, spicy oak and earth on the nose. Dense but tight on the palate, with sappy red berry flavors offering very good intensity and lift. This, too, is almost liqueur-like but retains good freshness of red fruit flavor. In a rather masculine style, finishing with solid tannic structure. From a late-ripening spot, notes Browne. I'd give this one a good two or three years in the cellar. BH 88 (7/2006): A very ripe nose with hints of cola, mocha and briar folds into very rich and impressively concentrated flavors that possess a cherry-liqueur like quality to them. This is quite forward and while not soft, there is velvety quality to the finish that presently masks what are firm tannins on the pepper-infused and again, youthfully tangy and noticeably warm finish. Weighty but focused, with sweet kirsch and mulberry flavors, chewy texture and a building floral pastille element. Turns sweeter still on the finish, which features a strong raspberry flavor and superb persistence. There's a seamless, creamy quality to this pinot that makes it really appealing even now. |

VM 91 (6/2008): Bright red color. Ripe red berry and cherry aromas are complemented by clove, mace and cinnamon. Supple and round, with sweet red berry preserve flavors, soft tannins and building ripeness. Maintains admirable clarity on the long, juicy finish, which leaves behind a strong flavor of raspberry. For a rich wine, this is focused and fresh. BH 85 (10/2008): Here the nose is a mix of lightly spiced medium-pitched red cherry and blue berry with only a trace of menthol that complements somewhat edgy and firm flavors where the acidity actually enhances the sense of warmth. The good news is that there is good complexity but the other side of the coin is that the acid backbone is not well integrated on the finish that is borderline hot. In sum, this is attractive up to the mid-palate but loses its appeal on the finish. |

VM 93 (6/2009): Ruby-red. Energetic aromas of black raspberry, blood orange, candied rose and minerals. Vivid, impressively focused red and dark berry flavors are complicated by an exotic floral pastille quality. The silky tannins add support and gentle grip to the long, subtly sweet finish. BH 86 (10/2009): (Sonoma Coast, 14.9%, 803 cases). Here the nose is not particularly dissimilar from that of the Koplen though the fruit is slightly redder in character and perhaps a hair fresher as well with rounded and easy to like flavors that also possess a seductive mouth feel and while I like the complexity of the focused and lingering finish, pinot (even solidly concentrated examples such as this can rarely carry this level of alcohol gracefully and, unfortunately, this one doesn't either. I would not age this as the warmth, even at cellar temperature, is immediately evident. Drink: now |

| VM 93 (7/2013): The character of the Sonoma Coast comes through in the 2010 Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard. Bright, chiseled and focused, the 2010 impresses for its energy and vibrancy. VM 93 (6/2009): Vivid red. Spicy black raspberry and cherry skin aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, anise and a suave blood orange quality. Fleshy, sweet red and dark berry flavors display liqueur-like depth and power, picking up candied rose on the back end. The refreshingly bitter finish leaves tangy berry skin notes behind. Along with the Kanzler, this is the most energetic of this year's line-up. BH 90 (10/2009): (Russian River Valley; 14.7%, 698 cases) An expressive and highly perfumed aromatic profile speaks of mostly upper register red berry fruit before sliding away into fresh, vibrant and supple medium-bodied flavors that display very little warmth provided that the serving temperature is properly maintained as well as none of the edginess that many in this range evidence. Very solid quality here. Drink 2012+. |

Open-knit, round and seductively sweet, with excellent finishing clarity and sappy persistence. This gained power in the glass while maintaining striking freshness and energy. BH 90 (10/2009): (Russian River Valley, 14.4%, 867 cases) An easy to appreciate nose jumps from the glass to reveal an appealing mix of both upper and lower register fruit elements along with spice, underbrush and wood hints that dissolve into rich, round and sappy middle weight plus flavors that possess an attractive mouth feel as there is good dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannins that confer a dusty texture to the serious, reasonably well-balanced and lingering finish where about the only nit is a mild edginess. | VM 92 (5/2010): Bright ruby. Intensely perfumed bouquet displays red berries, potpourri and star anise. Michael Browne told me that he used a lot of whole clusters this year "to increase the spiciness. The fruit is always powerful and I wanted to bring an extra dimension." Pliant, juicy red fruit flavors are complicated by notes of cinnamon and spicecake, with slow-building smokiness. Finishes with refreshing tangy cut and a strong echo of raspberry. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 91 (6/2007): Light red. Perfumed redcurrant and wild strawberry scents are precise and impressively energetic, with a zesty mineral note adding to the impression of vibrancy. Brisk but also nicely filled in, with strong red berry and cherry flavors lifted by exotic Asian spices. Taut, refreshingly bitter cherry and pomegranate notes on the finish carry impressively and are joined by an intriguing, vaguely numbing white pepper tone. WA 85 (8/2007): The well-made 2005 Pinot Noir Rosella’s Vineyard (15.3% alcohol) is somewhat puzzling as it possesses very ripe fruit, but not the concentration of most of its peers. VM 89 (6/2007): Bright red. Spicy cherry and wild strawberry aromas, with dark chocolate and licorice accents. Supple red and dark berry jam flavors show good depth and are accented by cracked pepper and mace. Finishes broad and sweet, with very good length and a refreshingly bitter cherry skin tone. BH 85 (12/2007): An expressive nose combines notes of cherry cough syrup a hint of menthol that can also be picked up on the round, supple and textured flavors that are attractively silky but culminate in a bitter and unbalanced finish where the warmth from the elevated alcohol dominates. While I for clearly stated reasons do not debate the merits of style in my evaluations because everyone should, and for the most part happily does, prefer different things, high alcohol is not a style question, it’s a balance question and this wine’s balance suffers because of its elevated alcohol and backend bitterness. The finishing bitterness of course is not from the alcohol but suffice it to say that this isn’t for me and I certainly wouldn’t recommend aging it. Drink now. |

This may round out but at present, it's borderline unpleasant. Benefit of the doubt extended. Drink 2011? |

| JD 94 (7/2021): Another pure, elegant wine from this estate, the 2019 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast offers beautiful framboise and dark strawberry fruits to go with complex notes of forest floor, leafy herbs, spice, and damp earth. These carry to a medium to full-bodied Pinot Noir with a layered, seamless texture, terrific overall balance, and a great finish. If anything, it's a more approachable, softer wine than the Russian River Valley, although it too should easily keep for a decade. Both Pinot Noirs from this team are brilliant wines. |
