BH 89 (4/2025): Here too there is a mentholated top note to the fresh and more deeply pitched nose of poached plum, dark berries and more subtle earth nuances. There is better volume to the solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that possess both a finer texture and a discreet bead of minerality on the balanced, youthfully austere and slightly firmer finale. This is a quality Pernand villages. (Drink starting 2028).
JM 87-89 (12/2024): An even light crimson colour. While there is less fruit evident on the nose, there is more concentration than expected on the palate, with a certain density towards the back, in a crunchy strawberry raspberry style. Once the bouquet develops this will, become an interesting wine. |

BH 91 (4/2025): An all but imperceptible trace of menthol can be found on the cooler and more elegant aromas of black cherry, violet and a pretty range of spice elements. The notably sleeker and finer lightly stony flavors possess good size and weight, all wrapped in a dusty, balanced and lengthy finale. This could use better depth but a few years of keeping should reasonably address that. (Drink starting 2029).
VM 91 (3/2025): The 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Serpentières 1er Cru has an understated bouquet with brambly red fruit and commendable purity, not intense but graceful. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, very well balanced with a slightly peppery finish (though there is no whole bunch here). Very well crafted. (Drink between 2026-2036). Neal Martin. |

BH 87 (6/2024): Bright aromas of just sliced citrus, white peach and pretty floral nuances are complemented by delicious middleweight flavors that are supported by lemon-tinged acidity on the vibrant, lingering and refreshing finale. Moreover, this is not your usual 'pop and pour' Bourgogne as it has the legs to repay 4 to 7 years of keeping. Worth checking out. Drink 2027+. Outstanding Top Value!
JM 87-89 (10/2023): A similar colour, pale primrose perhaps. A little bit crisper and more classic in bouquet. Delicious white fruit, very balanced, feel the limestone, enough flesh yet with precision as well. A longer and more mineral finish than Forgets. |

JM 89-91 (12/2024): To bottle in the New Year. A fine mid lemon yellow with an engaging generosity of fruit already apparent on the nose. The Javilliers have manged to harness freshness with ripeness in a most engaging fashion. Apple and plum fruit throughout, with a fine long finish. Drink from 2026-2029.
BH 87 (6/2025): Smoky aromas include those of apple, pear and a pretty floral top note. There is fine density, particularly in the context of the 2023 vintage, to the attractively textured and punchy flavors that conclude in a supple and lingering finish that is perhaps a bit less dry than usual. Even so, this is lovely and worth considering. (Drink starting 2026).
VM 87 (3/2025): The 2023 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Cuvée des Forgets has a light grass clipping- and apple blossom-scented nose. The palate is fresh with admirable weight, more expressive than the aromatics at the moment, with citrus peel and a hint of apricot on the finish. Drink over the next five years. | BH 88 (6/2024): ( the bulk of this is from Les Pellans.) A deft application of wood sets off equally bright and fresh aromas of Granny Smith apple and even more prominent citrus elements that are trimmed in pretty floral nuances. There is a bit more volume to the succulent, sappy and vibrant medium weight flavors that possess slightly more depth and persistence. This cuvée consistently boxes above its weight and blind, this could easily pass for a Meursault-villages wine plus, like the Forgets, it will generously reward cellaring. Buy it. Drink 2028+. VM 89 (3/2025): The 2023 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Cuvée Oligocène has a little more evidence of oak on the nose and a touch more yellow fruit than the Cuvée des Forgets. The palate is fresh and lively, mixing citrus lemon with orange rind and a dash of lemongrass towards the finish. Great value as always, this comes recommended. (Drink between 2025-2032). JM 89 (12/2024): Bottled end November. A slightly paler lemon yellow. Oligocene proposes a more cerebral aspect after the joyous Forgets. Ther is still an excellent concentration of ripe fruit, with a clear limestone backbone. Very good tension here with some lime notes as well as ripe lemon. Balanced and classy. Drink from 2026-2029.
BH 87 (6/2025): A more layered nose is comprised by notes of petrol, various white orchard fruit, acacia and a whiff of citrus confit. There is a bit more volume to the vibrant and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that retain a fine sense of detail on the drier, longer and more complex finale. This is an excellent Bourgogne and warmly recommended. (Drink starting 2027). |

A gentle touch of wood sets off elegant, pure and exceptionally fresh aromas of just sliced green apple, citrus confit and discreet floral nuances. There is excellent volume and richness to the bigger and markedly more powerful flavors that brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract on the wonderfully long finish. This is presently very compact and will need time to unwind as well as to develop more depth. |

JM 94-96 (10/2024): Only recently racked. An even mid lemon. The nose offers stones up front. The palate a wealth of concentrated white fruit supported by a little oak, and while the detail is not forthcoming, the quality and length of the finish impress. A vibrant mineral finish surrounded by an impressive weight of fruit. Drink from 2030-2037.
VM 93-95 (3/2025): The 2023 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is surprisingly reserved on the nose despite aeration, with crushed stone, sea cave and light nettle aromas. The palate is where the action is: very well balanced, harmonious and poised, gaining weight towards a mineral-driven finish that delivers the complexity you'd expect from a Grand Cru. Superb. (Drink between 2028-2048). Neal Martin.
BH 93 (6/2025): Here too there is a touch of phenolic character lurking in the background of the aromas of mineral reduction, Granny Smith apple and a range of spice and floral wisps. There is excellent volume and solid mid-palate density to the overtly stony larger-scaled flavors that display focused power on the balanced, compact and impressively persistent finish. All this beauty needs is 8 to 10 years in a cool cellar. (Drink starting 2031). |

JM 91 (12/2024): In bottle. A light lime touch to the pale lemon yellow colour. There is a chiselled note to the wine despite the opulence, quite rich whiter fruit on the palate yet still with the backbone of mineral acidity. Grapey finish. Drink from 2027-2030.
BH 89 (6/2025): Here too there is plenty of petrol character present on the ripe aromas of white peach, pear, floral and soft spice wisps. The generously proportioned and intense flavors possess a succulent mouthfeel as well as good delineation on the balanced bitter zest-inflected finale. Clos du Cromin is a wine that typically ages deceptively well yet it drinks well young too. (Drink starting 2028).
VM 88 (3/2025): The 2023 Meursault Clos du Cromin has an elegant nose with yellow plum, clementine and light wild honey scents. The palate is well balanced with impressive weight, quite a thick-textured Clos du Cromin with a touch of lemongrass on the finish. This is probably one I would choose for early drinking. JM 91 (12/2024): In bottle. An attractive mid lemon yellow. Not as immediately forthcoming as Les Tillets, though still showing a compact white orchard fruit. Fresh apples, quite intense. With a certain crunchiness. Laid back but with plenty in reserve. Drink from 2028-2032.
BH 91 (6/2025): There is a touch of phenolic character (think olive oil nuances) to the similarly airy and ripe aromas of white peach, the essence of pear and a whiff of exotic tea. The sleek, detailed and bigger-bodied flavors possess good power, if less finesse, while delivering even better depth on the sappy, balanced and built-to-age finale. This is an excellent Meursault villages and worth your interest. (Drink starting 2030).
VM 88 (3/2025): The 2023 Meursault Les Clousots has a backward nose of crushed stone and shucked oyster shells, perhaps in need of a little more vigour. The palate is fresh on the entry with apricot and a touch of peach skin on the front palate, though it just drifts a bit towards the finish. At the moment, I actually err towards the Cuvée Oligocène. BH 92 (6/2024): A more elegant and spicier nose features aromas of wet stone, lemon-lime, plenty of floral elements and the barest hint of wood. The racy, beautifully detailed and refined middleweight flavors exude a borderline pungent minerality on the impressively long bitter zest-inflected finish. This is a classic, and entirely superb, Tillets of delicacy and restraint. Drink 2030+. Outstanding Top Value!

VM 91 (3/2025): The 2023 Meursault Les Tillets has a stonier, more reserved bouquet than the Clos du Cromin, with light petrichor and beeswax scents. The palate is fresh and vibrant with a keen thread of acidity, more linear yet more energetic than other cuvées. This is very promising. (Drink between 2026-2038). Neal Martin.
BH 90 (6/2025): An airy, ripe and elegant combination of spice, white flower, exotic tea and petrol precede overtly stony, detailed and highly refined middle weight flavors that display fine length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This is textbook Tillets, which is to say a wine of finesse that could be enjoyed young or with 6 to 9 years of keeping. Recommended as well. (Drink starting 2029). |

BH 92 (6/2025): A cooler and much more restrained nose features notes of citrus, a lovely range of floral elements and exotic spice hints of anise and clove. The super-sleek and more mineral-driven flavors aren't quite as powerful or rich but they are undeniably finer with excellent length on the equally well-balanced finale. This is terrific for its level and highly recommended. (Drink starting 2030).
JM 92-93 (12/2024): Not yet in bottle. This is significantly more backward. The nose in particular. But then this blend of Casse Tete and Murger de Monthelie is always the most profound. It shows in the density of ripe orchard fruit on the palate, and the energy of the fruit at the finish. The vin de garde among the Meursaults. Drink from 2029-2035.
VM 90 (3/2025): The 2023 Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger has a slight reduction on the nose, more marine-influenced than other cuvées though the Tillets has a bit more panache. The palate is well balanced with clementine and pithy pear, as touches of white pepper and lemongrass emerge towards the finish. This just needs a little more sustain, but otherwise this will do nicely. (Drink between 2026-2036). Neal Martin. |

A slightly riper yet still very fresh, cool and pretty with acacia blossom, citrus confit and a beautiful array of spice wisps. There is terrific size, weight and mid-palate density to the big-bodied and powerful flavors that culminate in a lemon, very clean and hugely long finale. This is like a block at present and I wouldn't touch a bottle for the first 7 to 8 years. In a word, excellent. Drink 2032+. |

| BH 96 (6/2022): (from Ladoix, Pernand and Aloxe). Subtle notes of mineral reduction and wood toast can be found on the aromas of green apple, clove and white flowers. The wonderfully intense, focused and muscular large-scaled flavors brim with both dry extract and an almost aggressively minerality on the markedly dry but not really austere finale. Like the Chevalier and Montrachet, this beauty of a Corton-Charlemagne is presently very tightly wound and is going to need extended patience to arrive at its peak. | BH 96 (6/2022): (from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières). This is perhaps the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its aromas of essence of pear and plenitude of spice and citrus elements. Once again, the mid-palate mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is absolutely gorgeous, which contrasts noticeably with the cuts-like-a-knife finish that remains ultra-refined, balanced and persistent. This is most impressive, particularly for the remarkably fine volume and power that is delivered with grace and class. Drink 2030+. |

The Bouchard 2020 Genevrières certainly has the detail, with a mix of white fruits, a little apple and also some citrus. A fine Genevrières for the medium term.
BH 91-93 (6/2022): A ripe and naturally exotic nose features notes of Asian-style tea, anise, white peach and a whiff of fennel. The relatively generously proportioned medium weight flavors exude a subtle bead of minerality on the very dry and youthfully austere finish that also possesses a touch of bitter citrus character. There is better volume and mid-palate density to the delicious and appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors that possess markedly better depth and persistence on the youthfully austere, balanced and nicely dry finale. This is quite promising. (Drink starting 2028).
VM 91 (7/2024): The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Canet 1er Cru is completely shut down on the nose, to the point where I ask myself whether it has any bouquet at all. Rigorous aeration is ensured to no avail. There is some volatility when I return after 15 minutes. The palate is balanced with a smooth entry, quite honeyed in style, though it feels a bit flat on the finish. I suspect this wine would have benefitted from being picked three or four days earlier. That said, it does meliorate in the glass. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2024-2030). Neal Martin.

WA 93 (1/2023): The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières is excellent, mingling aromas of crisp orchard fruit with hints of white flowers, pastry cream and struck match in an inviting mélange, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive palate. Taut and chalky, it's a charming but classically proportioned white Burgundy.
VM 92 (7/2024): The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has a slightly muted nose at first, though it gently opens with grapefruit, Granny Smith, light granitic and smoke scents. This evolves well in the glass, cohering and gaining delineation. The palate is well-balanced with a slightly honeyed opening that prompts me to wonder if a smidgin of botrytised fruit was in the mix. Still, the acidity maintains tension and feels long on the richer finish. This will be difficult to resist in its youth. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2024-2036). JM 93-95 (6/2021): Lighter lemon yellow, the bouquet offering a light touch of menthol and especially anis. Deeper generous soil here but they think they have learnt to get the best out of it. Certainly a grand cru wealth of fruit, the acidity keeps the balance very nicely, a generous warm overcoat and good length. Nice wine!
BH 92-94 (10/2021): This is restrained to the point of being all but aromatically mute though aggressive swirling eventually coaxes notes of green fruit, citrus peel and oyster shell nuances to reveal themselves. There is both excellent volume and concentration to the big-bodied, powerful and imposing flavors that are focused, structured and youthfully austere. This is very much a work in progress, and I would advise allowing this at least 5 years of cellaring and it should easily reward a decade or more.
VM 92-94 (10/2021): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru comes from six hectares of vines, southwest- and south-facing, forming the two different cuvées. The bouquet unfolds to offer lovely yellow fruit and oyster leaf aromas, well defined and quite generous. The palate is taut and crisp with fine acidity and moderate depth, but very pretty and composed toward the saline finish. WA 96 (7/2022): In a sense, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots offers a resumé of several of Fèvre's grand cru bottlings, uniting the taut musculature of Valmur and the ethereal, mineral profile of Les Preuses, with some of the perfumed sensuality of Vaudésir and fleshy texture of Bougros. The result is certainly a very compelling wine, exhibiting aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, white flowers, freshly baked bread, oyster jus and white peach, followed by a full-bodied, taut and layered palate that's seamless and complete, concluding with a pungently mineral finish. It's worth a special effort to seek out, though a decade's patience is warmly advised.
BH 96 (9/2022): A deft application of wood lurks in the background of the aromas cool citrus, apple, mineral reduction and ocean breeze wisps. There is an almost painful intensity to the powerful but sleek and defined medium weight plus flavors that brim with minerality on the clean, very dry and hugely long finish. This is also potentially brilliant and well-worth considering. (Drink starting 2032).
VM 93 (7/2024): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Côte Bouguerots Grand Cru has a crushed stone scented bouquet. A peppermint trace comes through with aeration. The nose is controlled and citrus-fresh, and I admire the energy. The palate is poised and concentrated, and a silver thread of acidity keeps this Grand Cru tensile and focused. WA 94 (7/2022): Bursting from the glass with aromas of vine blossom, orange zest, crisp white peach and honeycomb, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a seamless, elegantly fleshy profile and lively balancing acids. As is often the case, it's one of the more demonstrative grand cru bottlings in the range, yet its track record for longevity is impressive.
BH 93 (9/2022): A discreet dollop of wood sets off the ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, passion fruit and subtle mineral reduction wisps. There is a positively gorgeous texture to the highly refined middleweight flavors that culminate in lightly stony, focused and sneaky long finish. This could use a bit more depth though overall, it is a classic Vaudésir of lace and grace that should generously reward a decade or so of cellaring. |

VM 88? (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has a slightly nutty, Meursault-like bouquet that needs a little more freshness. It feels a little more mature than a 2020. There is something a bit static about the aromatics. The palate is balanced with a tangy opening, a simple Chardonnay rather than a definable Saint-Aubin. It is fresh and boasts decent length, but it does not leave you beholden. N.B. I find this far superior at the Domaine, hence my lower score. Perhaps the bottle? Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
BH 92 (7/2023): There is just enough reduction to suppress the underlying fruit for the moment with the exception of a whisper of lemon zest. By contrast there is really lovely intensity to the precise, cool and restrained mineral-inflected middleweight flavors that terminate in a racy, clean and emphatically dry finale that displays only a trace of youthful austerity. This chiseled effort is excellent and akin to rolling tiny rocks around the mouth. |

Offering up aromas of crisp orchard fruit, citrus oil and freshly baked bread, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, its satiny attack segueing into a taut, chalky mid-palate and a long, mineral finish.
BH 90 (6/2023): Smoky aromas of green apple, pear and a subtle floral nuance are complemented by succulent, delicious and vibrant middleweight flavors that are sleek if not especially dense, all wrapped in a beautifully textured, focused, stony and lingering finish. In contrast to the Clos des Gravières, this is going to need at least a few years of keeping first as it is less forthcoming at present. (Drink starting 2027). |

There is notably better density to the equally beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that flash excellent minerality on the solidly powerful, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finale. Like the Gravières, this should be enjoyable young but have no trouble repaying up to a decade of bottle age. (Drink starting 2028).
VM 88 (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with wet pavement and limestone aromas, pinning this as an En Remilly. It just becomes a little diffuse with aeration. The palate is slightly chalky on the entry, has crisp acidity, and may be a little too sharp on the citric finish. I would also prefer more length here. BH 92 (6/2023): This is aromatically quite similar to the Chez Edouard but with more prominent citrus influence. There is notably better density to the equally beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that flash excellent minerality on the solidly powerful, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finale. Like the Gravières, this should be enjoyable young but have no trouble repaying up to a decade of bottle age. (Drink starting 2028).
VM 88 (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with wet pavement and limestone aromas, pinning this as an En Remilly. It just becomes a little diffuse with aeration. The palate is slightly chalky on the entry, has crisp acidity, and may be a little too sharp on the citric finish. I would also prefer more length here. More interesting are the solidly concentrated and sappy flavors that possess even better volume before culminating in a mouth coating and unusually powerful finish that possess excellent depth and persistence for a wine at this level. Very fine quality for a villages-level Chassagne and well-worth checking out.
VM 89-91 (12/2021): The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Village had been blended and fined. This is well-defined on the nose with lemon sherbet and light orange zest aromas, a very subtle mineral note that surfaces with time. BH 95 (9/2022): A more reserved nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of mineral reduction, essence of green apple, lemon-lime and a variety of Chablis elements that include iodine, tidal pool and quinine along with moderate wood. There is excellent volume to the intense, detailed and tautly muscular flavors that display superb length on the balanced, youthfully austere and dry finale. This powerful and compact effort is flat out terrific and while it can't match the refinement of the Montée de Tonnerre, it is just as complete. If you can find it, buy it. Drink 2032+.
JM 95 (6/2022): Pale colour I instantly fall in love with this nose. An explosion of fresh white peaches on the nose, really gorgeous, with a massive concentration without heat or being clumsy. What else to say? |

There isn't quite the same volume on the palate as the Butteaux, but the middleweight flavors are notably more refined before terminating in a driving, chiseled and citrusy bone-dry finale. I very much like the focused power of the finish and this classy effort should also amply reward extended cellaring. Drink 2032+. |

Lush kirsch and blackcurrant flavors seem vaguely syrah-like, but there's excellent mineral tang keeping things in check. Finishes with impressively sweet red fruit flavors, supple tannins and striking persistence.
BH 88 (10/2007): This is also notably ripe with an attractive breadth of spice and dark and blue berry fruit aromas including cola and coffee that complement the concentrated flavors blessed with ample dry extract and a nicely intense if somewhat edgy and slightly warm finish that is not at present as well integrated as it might be. There is clearly good material here but the youthful awkwardness has yet to pass. Drink 2009+. |

Curran noted that she's as meticulous as possible with her winemaking, leaving as little as possible to chance. As she put it: "Spontaneity isn't a good idea when you're making red expensive wine."
BH 90 (10/2007): A distinctly ripe yet not surmature nose features hints of spice, black currant and noticeable but not dominant wood influence that continues onto the big, rich, bold and sweet flavors that possess excellent volume on the delicious, sappy and chocolaty finish that has both a subtle tang and more than a touch of warmth. What elevates this beyond the ordinary though is the fine sense of underlying complexity as well as the much better than average length. In sum, this is no ballerina and it's not my style but it does make a statement. Drink: 2010+ |

| VM 91 (12/2010): Saturated ruby. Deep, pungent aromas of black raspberry, cherry pie, vanillin oak and smoky Indian spices. Sappy, palate-coating cherry and dark berry compote flavors show an exotic floral pastille quality and hints of clove and mocha. A distinctly rich, fleshy pinot that will aggravate Burgundy purists, but this wine makes quite a statement. |

VM 92+ (10/2011): Opaque ruby. Pungent, expressive bouquet offers dark berry compote, cola, vanilla bean and incense qualities, along with slow-building spiciness and notes of clove and mocha. Lush, palate-coating blackberry and mulberry flavors are lifted by gentle acidity and complicated by notes of spicecake and candied violet. Tannins build with air and carry through a very long, sweet, oak-spicy finish. This is a baby.
WA 89 (8/2012): One of the Sea Smoke flagships, the 2009 Pinot Noir Ten impresses for its depth and sheer power. Layers of flavor flow through to the huge, dramatic finish in a full-bodied, intense Pinot. Once the intensity of the fruit fades, there is not much development in the glass, which results in an overall impression of one-dimensionality. The Ten is made from all ten Pinot clones planted on the property. While a solid effort, I expected more from this offering, which also happens to be the wine through which I discovered Sea Smoke years ago. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. |
