BH 89 (4/2025): Here too there is a mentholated top note to the fresh and more deeply pitched nose of poached plum, dark berries and more subtle earth nuances. There is better volume to the solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that possess both a finer texture and a discreet bead of minerality on the balanced, youthfully austere and slightly firmer finale. This is a quality Pernand villages. (Drink starting 2028).
JM 87-89 (12/2024): An even light crimson colour. While there is less fruit evident on the nose, there is more concentration than expected on the palate, with a certain density towards the back, in a crunchy strawberry raspberry style. Once the bouquet develops this will, become an interesting wine. |

| BH 91 (4/2021): A top note of herbal tea can be found on the pretty and more elegant aromas of red and dark raspberry, soft earth and a whiff of spice. There is slightly better verve to the nicely detailed and discreetly stony middle weight flavors that possess a notably finer texture while exhibiting a bit more length on the more structured finale. This harmonious effort should be approachable after 3 to 4 years but easily reward up to a decade of cellaring. Drink 2027+. Outstanding! |

BH 91 (4/2025): An all but imperceptible trace of menthol can be found on the cooler and more elegant aromas of black cherry, violet and a pretty range of spice elements. The notably sleeker and finer lightly stony flavors possess good size and weight, all wrapped in a dusty, balanced and lengthy finale. This could use better depth but a few years of keeping should reasonably address that. (Drink starting 2029).
VM 91 (3/2025): The 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Serpentières 1er Cru has an understated bouquet with brambly red fruit and commendable purity, not intense but graceful. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, very well balanced with a slightly peppery finish (though there is no whole bunch here). Very well crafted. (Drink between 2026-2036). Neal Martin. |

JM 87-89 (10/2023): A similar colour, pale primrose perhaps. A little bit crisper and more classic in bouquet. Delicious white fruit, very balanced, feel the limestone, enough flesh yet with precision as well. A longer and more mineral finish than Forgets. |

JM 89-91 (12/2024): To bottle in the New Year. A fine mid lemon yellow with an engaging generosity of fruit already apparent on the nose. The Javilliers have manged to harness freshness with ripeness in a most engaging fashion. Apple and plum fruit throughout, with a fine long finish. Drink from 2026-2029.
BH 87 (6/2025): Smoky aromas include those of apple, pear and a pretty floral top note. There is fine density, particularly in the context of the 2023 vintage, to the attractively textured and punchy flavors that conclude in a supple and lingering finish that is perhaps a bit less dry than usual. Even so, this is lovely and worth considering. (Drink starting 2026).
VM 87 (3/2025): The 2023 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Cuvée des Forgets has a light grass clipping- and apple blossom-scented nose. The palate is fresh with admirable weight, more expressive than the aromatics at the moment, with citrus peel and a hint of apricot on the finish. Drink over the next five years. VM 89 (3/2025): The 2023 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Cuvée Oligocène has a little more evidence of oak on the nose and a touch more yellow fruit than the Cuvée des Forgets. The palate is fresh and lively, mixing citrus lemon with orange rind and a dash of lemongrass towards the finish. Great value as always, this comes recommended. (Drink between 2025-2032). JM 89 (12/2024): Bottled end November. A slightly paler lemon yellow. Oligocene proposes a more cerebral aspect after the joyous Forgets. Ther is still an excellent concentration of ripe fruit, with a clear limestone backbone. Very good tension here with some lime notes as well as ripe lemon. Balanced and classy. Drink from 2026-2029.
BH 87 (6/2025): A more layered nose is comprised by notes of petrol, various white orchard fruit, acacia and a whiff of citrus confit. There is a bit more volume to the vibrant and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that retain a fine sense of detail on the drier, longer and more complex finale. This is an excellent Bourgogne and warmly recommended. (Drink starting 2027). |

BH 95 (6/2024): (from a .17 ha holding in Pougets.) A very fresh, cool and beautifully layered nose freely reveals aromas of acacia blossom, citrus confit and a beautiful array of spice wisps. There is excellent size, weight and mid-palate density to the big-bodied and powerful flavors that culminate in a lemon, very clean and hugely long mineral-driven finale. This muscular effort is a block of stone at present and I would advise not touching a bottle for the first 7 to 8 years. With that said, if you can find it, and intend to cellar it, don't hesitate as this is a knockout of a Corton-Charlemagne. Drink 2034+. Don't miss!
JM 93-95 (10/2023): This is still in barrel, unracked. Pale primrose, the bouquet is less easy to discern at this stage, with a minor oxidative note and some reduction. Put that to one side. On the palate this is classic, with a wealth of white fruit, a mineral underlay, a touch of oak too of course, some power and good length. Should emerge from its cocoon very soundly. |

JM 90-92 (12/2021): Currently in tank, on its finings. Pure lemon and lime colour. Lean white fruit up front, with good tension behind. Entirely white, no yellow plums, racy limestone feel with good length. Tense and long.
BH 88-91 (6/2022): Ripe and appealingly layered aromas of hazelnut, poached pear and lemon confit introduce solidly voluminous and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that are generously proportioned while delivering fine length on the clean and moderately dry finale. Good quality here. Drink 2025+.
VM 88-90 (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Clos du Cromin is tightly-wound on the nose and needed coaxing from the glass, light citrus lemon, Golden Delicious and earthy tones gradually unfurl. The palate is well balanced with fine depth, a slightly resinous texture that leads to a pithy, wild peach-tinged finish. Give this just a year in bottle. Neal Martin. |

JM 91 (12/2024): In bottle. A light lime touch to the pale lemon yellow colour. There is a chiselled note to the wine despite the opulence, quite rich whiter fruit on the palate yet still with the backbone of mineral acidity. Grapey finish. Drink from 2027-2030.
BH 89 (6/2025): Here too there is plenty of petrol character present on the ripe aromas of white peach, pear, floral and soft spice wisps. The generously proportioned and intense flavors possess a succulent mouthfeel as well as good delineation on the balanced bitter zest-inflected finale. Clos du Cromin is a wine that typically ages deceptively well yet it drinks well young too. (Drink starting 2028).
VM 88 (3/2025): The 2023 Meursault Clos du Cromin has an elegant nose with yellow plum, clementine and light wild honey scents. The palate is well balanced with impressive weight, quite a thick-textured Clos du Cromin with a touch of lemongrass on the finish. This is probably one I would choose for early drinking. BH 93 (6/2024): (the name is a play on words as this is a .60 ha blend of two vineyards, Les Clous and Crotots.) A restrained, airy and distinctly cool nose somewhat grudgingly offers up its array of just sliced apple, pear, lemon rind and acacia. There is terrific mid-palate density to the equally mineral-driven medium weight flavors that possess solid power on the sappy, refreshingly dry and sappy finale. This stunningly good Meursault-villages is very much built to repay extended keeping and is definitely a wine to strongly consider. Drink 2032+. Sweet Spot Outstanding!
JM 89-92 (10/2023): Full lemon yellow with a much broader bouquet than the Tillets. More pears than apples, a real concentration of fruit right at the front of the palate, but very good weight thereafter. A touch of sucrosity but maintains its shape. White fruit energy to finish. |

JM 91 (12/2024): In bottle. An attractive mid lemon yellow. Not as immediately forthcoming as Les Tillets, though still showing a compact white orchard fruit. Fresh apples, quite intense. With a certain crunchiness. Laid back but with plenty in reserve. Drink from 2028-2032.
BH 91 (6/2025): There is a touch of phenolic character (think olive oil nuances) to the similarly airy and ripe aromas of white peach, the essence of pear and a whiff of exotic tea. The sleek, detailed and bigger-bodied flavors possess good power, if less finesse, while delivering even better depth on the sappy, balanced and built-to-age finale. This is an excellent Meursault villages and worth your interest. (Drink starting 2030).
VM 88 (3/2025): The 2023 Meursault Les Clousots has a backward nose of crushed stone and shucked oyster shells, perhaps in need of a little more vigour. The palate is fresh on the entry with apricot and a touch of peach skin on the front palate, though it just drifts a bit towards the finish. At the moment, I actually err towards the Cuvée Oligocène. Significant volume of fresh fruit, tinged with its usual lime blossom character, and good crisp finish with just the right acidity. Plenty of flesh nonetheless. Nice finale on fresh apple fruit.
BH 90 (6/2022): A cool, pure and restrained nose reflects airy and elegant notes of acacia, green apple, anise and a whiff of citrus rind. There is a beguiling sense of underlying tension to the detailed and mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in an attractively dry, clean and lingering finale. This is fine Meursault villages with the innate finesse of Tillets on display. Drink 2026+. Outstanding Top Value!

JM 93 (12/2021): Bottled late November. Fine pale primrose. The bouquet is notably more backward. I am waiting a moment and then the sense of volume emerges. Significant volume here, a thick but not lush texture, enormous energy, this will need a couple more years in bottle than any of the others.
BH 92 (6/2022): ( from a .62 ha combination of Au Murger de Monthélie and Les Casse-Têtes.) A more floral-suffused nose features very bright and fresh aromas of Granny Smith apples, essence of pear and a variety of citrus influences. There is again excellent volume and richness along with even more apparent minerality on the complex and beautifully persistent finale that flashes focused power. This too offers first-rate quality for a villages-level wine. Drink 2027+. Outstanding Top Value!
VM 91+ (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger has a well-defined nose, although I was expecting a little more presence and energy compared to previous vintages that I have tasted over the years. The palate is well balanced and shows more gumption, fine acidity with a touch of ginger, well-defined with red apple, nectarine and orange pith on the finish. BH 92 (6/2025): A cooler and much more restrained nose features notes of citrus, a lovely range of floral elements and exotic spice hints of anise and clove. The super-sleek and more mineral-driven flavors aren't quite as powerful or rich but they are undeniably finer with excellent length on the equally well-balanced finale. This is terrific for its level and highly recommended. (Drink starting 2030).
JM 92-93 (12/2024): Not yet in bottle. This is significantly more backward. The nose in particular. But then this blend of Casse Tete and Murger de Monthelie is always the most profound. It shows in the density of ripe orchard fruit on the palate, and the energy of the fruit at the finish. The vin de garde among the Meursaults. Drink from 2029-2035.
VM 90 (3/2025): The 2023 Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger has a slight reduction on the nose, more marine-influenced than other cuvées though the Tillets has a bit more panache. The palate is well balanced with clementine and pithy pear, as touches of white pepper and lemongrass emerge towards the finish. This just needs a little more sustain, but otherwise this will do nicely. (Drink between 2026-2036). Neal Martin. |

This is perhaps the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its aromas of essence of pear and plenitude of spice and citrus elements. Once again, the mid-palate mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is absolutely gorgeous, which contrasts noticeably with the cuts-like-a-knife finish that remains ultra-refined, balanced and persistent. This is most impressive, particularly for the remarkably fine volume and power that is delivered with grace and class. Drink 2030+. |

VM 95-97 (12/2021): The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru, which was undergoing its élevage in foudres, has a very sophisticated bouquet with mineral-rich citrus fruit, hints of hazelnut and lanolin. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity. There is a little more density and concentration compared to the regular Chevalier-Montrachet and though there is a patina of oak to be subsumed, this will surely age with style. Excellent. (Readers should note that no 2021 will be produced due to frost and there will just be a tiny amount of Chevalier-Montrachet.) (Drink between 2025-2050). Neal Martin.
WA 95-97 (1/2022): The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru is brilliant, bursting with aromas of orange oil, nutmeg, crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and peach. Full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's layered and multidimensional, with striking depth and intensity, concluding with a long, resonant finish. It's a brilliant wine in the making. |

VM 92-94 (11/2021): Fine lemon and lime colour, with a detailed elegant bouquet and a sense of class all the way through to a slightly richer bouquet. The Bouchard 2020 Genevrières certainly has the detail, with a mix of white fruits, a little apple and also some citrus. A fine Genevrières for the medium term.
BH 91-93 (6/2022): A ripe and naturally exotic nose features notes of Asian-style tea, anise, white peach and a whiff of fennel. The relatively generously proportioned medium weight flavors exude a subtle bead of minerality on the very dry and youthfully austere finish that also possesses a touch of bitter citrus character. Lovely juice and this is really quite classy. Drink 2028+. |

BH 92 (6/2023): A much more floral-suffused nose reveals its aromas of apple and pear compote, lemon rind and discreet spice elements. There is better volume and mid-palate density to the delicious and appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors that possess markedly better depth and persistence on the youthfully austere, balanced and nicely dry finale. This is quite promising. (Drink starting 2028).
VM 91 (7/2024): The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Canet 1er Cru is completely shut down on the nose, to the point where I ask myself whether it has any bouquet at all. Rigorous aeration is ensured to no avail. There is some volatility when I return after 15 minutes. The palate is balanced with a smooth entry, quite honeyed in style, though it feels a bit flat on the finish. I suspect this wine would have benefitted from being picked three or four days earlier. That said, it does meliorate in the glass. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2024-2030). Neal Martin.

JM 93-95 (6/2021): Lighter lemon yellow, the bouquet offering a light touch of menthol and especially anis. Deeper generous soil here but they think they have learnt to get the best out of it. Certainly a grand cru wealth of fruit, the acidity keeps the balance very nicely, a generous warm overcoat and good length. Nice wine!
BH 92-94 (10/2021): This is restrained to the point of being all but aromatically mute though aggressive swirling eventually coaxes notes of green fruit, citrus peel and oyster shell nuances to reveal themselves. There is both excellent volume and concentration to the big-bodied, powerful and imposing flavors that are focused, structured and youthfully austere. This is very much a work in progress, and I would advise allowing this at least 5 years of cellaring and it should easily reward a decade or more.
VM 92-94 (10/2021): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru comes from six hectares of vines, southwest- and south-facing, forming the two different cuvées. The bouquet unfolds to offer lovely yellow fruit and oyster leaf aromas, well defined and quite generous. The palate is taut and crisp with fine acidity and moderate depth, but very pretty and composed toward the saline finish. There is plenty of substance already in situ and I foresee this aging with class. Neal Martin. |

WA 94 (7/2022): Bursting from the glass with aromas of vine blossom, orange zest, crisp white peach and honeycomb, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a seamless, elegantly fleshy profile and lively balancing acids. As is often the case, it's one of the more demonstrative grand cru bottlings in the range, yet its track record for longevity is impressive.
BH 93 (9/2022): A discreet dollop of wood sets off the ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, passion fruit and subtle mineral reduction wisps. There is a positively gorgeous texture to the highly refined middleweight flavors that culminate in lightly stony, focused and sneaky long finish. This could use a bit more depth though overall, it is a classic Vaudésir of lace and grace that should generously reward a decade or so of cellaring. |

There is a bit more size, weight and volume to the solid concentrated flavors that brim with dry extract on the palate staining, powerful and impressively persistent finish. This is also quite tightly wound and packed with development potential. (Drink starting 2032).
VM 91-93 (12/2021): The 2020 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has more attack and penetration compared to the Bienvenue, greater mineralité and terroir expression. The palate is finely balanced with plenty of ripe citrus fruit laced with stem ginger and dried orange rind. Perhaps it just cuts away a little swiftly on the finish, but otherwise this is a decent 2020 white. Closure: Diam (Drink between 2025-2048). Neal Martin. |

JM 92 (12/2021): Bottled end November. Mid yellow in colour, but fresh. There is an impressive weight of fruit for this hillside vineyard. Significant volume of fresh fruit, tinged with its usual lime blossom character, and good crisp finish with just the right acidity. Plenty of flesh nonetheless. Nice finale on fresh apple fruit.
BH 90 (6/2022): A cool, pure and restrained nose reflects airy and elegant notes of acacia, green apple, anise and a whiff of citrus rind. There is a beguiling sense of underlying tension to the detailed and mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in an attractively dry, clean and lingering finale. This is fine Meursault villages with the innate finesse of Tillets on display. Drink 2026+. Outstanding Top Value!

JM 93 (12/2021): Bottled late November. Fine pale primrose. The bouquet is notably more backward. I am waiting a moment and then the sense of volume emerges. Significant volume here, a thick but not lush texture, enormous energy, this will need a couple more years in bottle than any of the others.
BH 92 (6/2022): ( from a .62 ha combination of Au Murger de Monthélie and Les Casse-Têtes.) A more floral-suffused nose features very bright and fresh aromas of Granny Smith apples, essence of pear and a variety of citrus influences. There is again excellent volume and richness along with even more apparent minerality on the complex and beautifully persistent finale that flashes focused power. This too offers first-rate quality for a villages-level wine. Drink 2027+. Outstanding Top Value!
VM 91+ (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger has a well-defined nose, although I was expecting a little more presence and energy compared to previous vintages that I have tasted over the years. The palate is well balanced and shows more gumption, fine acidity with a touch of ginger, well-defined with red apple, nectarine and orange pith on the finish. VM 93-95 (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru is crisp and precise on the nose, just as mineral-driven as the Charmes though there is a little more flintiness here. The palate has exquisite balance and poise, citrus peel and lime, very good weight towards the finish with hazelnut and fumé notes on the long and (again) spicy finish. Excellent. Neal Martin.
BH 92-94 (6/2022): While compositionally similar to the Charmes, this is notably spicier while offering a hint of exotic tea as well. The pure, energetic and strikingly textured middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract on the balanced, youthfully austere and stony finale. This impressively persistent and very stylish effort is a wine of finesse and it too should amply reward mid to perhaps even longer-term cellaring. Drink 2028+. |

VM 88? (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has a slightly nutty, Meursault-like bouquet that needs a little more freshness. It feels a little more mature than a 2020. There is something a bit static about the aromatics. The palate is balanced with a tangy opening, a simple Chardonnay rather than a definable Saint-Aubin. It is fresh and boasts decent length, but it does not leave you beholden. N.B. I find this far superior at the Domaine, hence my lower score. Perhaps the bottle? Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
BH 92 (7/2023): There is just enough reduction to suppress the underlying fruit for the moment with the exception of a whisper of lemon zest. By contrast there is really lovely intensity to the precise, cool and restrained mineral-inflected middleweight flavors that terminate in a racy, clean and emphatically dry finale that displays only a trace of youthful austerity. This chiseled effort is excellent and akin to rolling tiny rocks around the mouth. |

WA 95 (1/2023): The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly wafts from the glass with aromas of white flowers, crisp stone fruit, honeycomb, orange oil and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping palate that's racy and precise, combining the aromatic expression and textural attack characteristic of its sunny exposition with the tension and cut appropriate to this high-altitude, stony site.
BH 92 (6/2023): This is aromatically quite similar to the Chez Edouard but with more prominent citrus influence. There is notably better density to the equally beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that flash excellent minerality on the solidly powerful, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finale. Like the Gravières, this should be enjoyable young but have no trouble repaying up to a decade of bottle age. (Drink starting 2028).
VM 88 (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with wet pavement and limestone aromas, pinning this as an En Remilly. It just becomes a little diffuse with aeration. The palate is slightly chalky on the entry, has crisp acidity, and may be a little too sharp on the citric finish. I would also prefer more length here. VM 96 (1/2023): The 2020 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is more backward on the nose compared to the Bienvenue at the moment despite rigorous coaxing. The palate has impressive weight and density, perhaps less finesse than the more approachable Bienvenue at the moment but with more aging potential. It feels long on the saline finish, but it's surly at this early stage.Neal Martin.
JM 96-98 (5/2022): Mid lemon yellow. The bouquet also takes time to emerge, then shows a little more power than the Bienvenues. The oak is a fraction more present but still superbly integrated. The taffeta texture could not possibly have more tensile strength, with an exemplary purity of fruit. To have so much power (not in an alcoholic sense) and yet so much grape. Little light fresh apple notes to finish.
BH 95-97 (6/2022): A wonderfully floral-suffused nose reflects additional notes of petrol, citrus, white orchard and a hint of oak toast. The bigger and richer flavors also possess a gorgeous mouthfeel that is almost delicate yet racy with excellent delineation on the youthfully austere and beautifully balanced finish that just goes on and on. This is potentially a magnificent Bâtard and it's going to be interesting to compare this with the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet in a decade's or so time. In sum, I would offer the same advice - if you can find it, buy it. Drink 2032+. |

BH 92 (6/2022): Here too there is just enough post-bottling reduction to overshadow what appears to be ripe fruit. On the palate there is good size, weight and volume to the succulent, indeed almost plump, middle weight plus flavors that also exude a lovely bead of minerality on the sappy and youthfully austere finale. This is definitely relatively forward for a young CC and a wine that should be reasonably approachable earlier than usual. (Drink starting 2026).
VM 91 (7/2024): The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a slightly disjointed bouquet, not as well knit as its peers, with touches of beeswax, lavender oil and rosemary. The palate is well-balanced. It's a "nimble" Grand Cru, thanks to the silver bead of acidity. There's more tension here due to what feels like a lower pH, lemon curd and subtle Indian spices surfacing towards its composed finish. Perhaps it could do with a little more length, but otherwise, it has brightness and vivacity. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2026-2043). Neal Martin. |

There is excellent volume to the intense, detailed and tautly muscular flavors that display superb length on the balanced, youthfully austere and dry finale. This powerful and compact effort is flat out terrific and while it can't match the refinement of the Montée de Tonnerre, it is just as complete. If you can find it, buy it. Drink 2032+.

A considerable measure of yeasty and CO2-engendered aromas needs to clear off before this really begins to show its formidable stuff. Creamy in texture and quite unlike the corresponding Spatlese, it displays more than enough energy, concentration, and sheer length, but needs time to harmonize and focus. |

| WA 92 (12/2010): The Prum 2009 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese mingles spiced apple, papaya, pink grapefruit, cassis, and white raisin in a lush, creamily-textured, pungently botrytis-tinged performance full-throated from nose through peacock’s finishing flourish, and hard to beat for sheer diversity and audacity of fruit. If you’re looking for nuance of for characteristics that might be described as in any sense “mineral,” then perhaps in a dozen years you’ll find them here, otherwise search elsewhere. But in reality this is a wine that deserves a long time in the cellar and is apt to retain and add to its present virtues over a 30 year period. |

JS 96 (6/2018): The 2016 Goldkapsel Auslese from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr is going to be a magical wine in the fullness of time. The bouquet is pure, still fairly primary and utterly classical in depth and proportion, delivering a superb constellation of white cherries, delicious apple, a touch of the yellow plum to come in time, a gorgeous signature of slate minerality and a topnote of apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and precise, with lovely depth, ripe, vibrant acids, great focus and grip and a very, very long, pure and energetic finish. This will need at least a decade in the cellar to start to stir, but it will be a great Goldkapsel once it is ready to drink and will live for a very, very long time! Great juice. 2026-2085+. |

JS 96 (6/2018): The 2016 Goldkapsel Auslese from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr is going to be a magical wine in the fullness of time. The bouquet is pure, still fairly primary and utterly classical in depth and proportion, delivering a superb constellation of white cherries, delicious apple, a touch of the yellow plum to come in time, a gorgeous signature of slate minerality and a topnote of apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, pure and precise, with lovely depth, ripe, vibrant acids, great focus and grip and a very, very long, pure and energetic finish. This will need at least a decade in the cellar to start to stir, but it will be a great Goldkapsel once it is ready to drink and will live for a very, very long time! Great juice. 2026-2085+. |

| VM 93 (6/2017): Apple and quince are coolingly laced with mint and wintergreen (decidedly reminiscent of the corresponding Bernkasteler) but also, quite unexpectedly, joined by banana, mango and muskmelon for an unusually exotic expression of Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett that is as luscious in the mouth as it is heady on the nose. Lily and heliotrope contribute to the wine’s head-turning aromatic intensity and their inner-mouth perfume to the allure of a subtly creamy palate. For all of its unusually advanced sense of ripeness for a Kabinett, this projects remarkable delicacy and a focused sense of stone, fruit and floral interface in its lingering finish. (The Prüms are fond of observing that their Wehlener Sonnenuhr is usually slower to show itself than others of their wines, but that certainly isn’t the case with this 2015.) David Schildnecht. |

VM 93 (1/2018): Cheesy fermentative overtones give way to a site-typical amalgam of fresh apple garlanded in honeysuckle and heliotrope. This is another of those Prüm Kabinetts that is watery in a positive sense of that word, combining watercolor-like transparency and wash of flavor with delicacy and refreshment. As with the corresponding Graacher, the finishing sense of wet stone and floral perfume is striking, and here a mouthwatering hint of salinity adds significantly to the appeal. JD 90 (5/2019): Lot of citrus, sweet lime, and mint emerge from the 2016 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett, which is certainly a good value at the price. Medium-bodied, pure, beautifully balanced, with an off-dry, juicy style on the palate, it’s a joy to drink. |

| WA 91 (2/2012): Emphasizing the bitter side of the vanilla bean as well as toasted nuts and cyanic apple pit, the Prum 2010 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese A.P. #14 thereby generates a fascinating contrast with its apple jelly and honey richness. Alkaline and wet stone notes - beginning already in the nose - enhance that contrast. Nut oils, honey and apple reprise in a lusciously lingering finish. Less charming, refreshing, exuberant, or focused in finish than the corresponding Graacher, this Wehlener will almost certainly need a longer time to show its true potential; but one can rest assured based on one of Germany’s most certifiable track-records that at least a quarter century of pleasure is in the offing here. (I did not have opportunity to taste the corresponding auction cuvee, A.P. #26.) |
