| JS 95 (4/2015): This is a fabulous young Barolo with a purity and beauty that is breathtaking. Full body plus a deep and subtle center palate of strawberry, light cherry and hints of citrus. Really superb. Drink or hold. |

| JS 96 (1/2019): Complex aromas of smoke, ash and dark fruits with a precision and intensity. Layered and gorgeous. Loads of dark fruit and perfume. Full-bodied with round and wonderfully polished tannins. Wonderful length and richness Goes on for minutes. Try in 2023 but already goes. |

| JD 92 (5/2023): A touch more reserved at the moment, the 2019 Barolo reveals notes of pure red fruit, cherry, grenadine, dusty earth, and menthol. It is gripping with structure and rich with tea leaf, cherry, and turned soil. Drink 2024-2035. Audrey Frick. |

JS 96 (1/2014): The aromas are full of white truffles, dark fruits and dried flowers. Blueberries too. Full body that kicks in on the finish. It goes on for minutes. Tight and very integrated with beautifully polished tannins and pretty fruit. Seems more structured than the 2008. Try in 2018. VM 92+ (12/2013): Good bright red. Deeper-pitched but less expressive than the normale, offering scents of plum, red cherry, currant, menthol and spices. Suave on entry, then nicely floral and fine-grained in the mouth, with enticing sweetness to the red cherry and redcurrant fruit flavors. Larger scaled than the house's Barbaresco Il Bricco but also more backward and muscular today. This needs patience but should blossom with time in the cellar. WA 92 (6/2013): The 2009 Barolo Ornato, on the other hand, shows a “modern" approach with softer fruit layers and thicker, velvety texture. The fact that the fruit is sourced in the Serralunga d’Alba township (known for more opulent wines) underlines the wine’s open and overt personality. Given the vintage, I’d apply a shorter drinking window to this wine. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. |

JS 98 (2/2017): Extremely complex and showing the terroir of Serralunga with rose stems, wet earth, strawberries and mushrooms. Orange peel to boot. Full to medium body, ultra-fine tannins and bright acidity. Fascinating character that takes everything from the aromas. Light chewy on the finish. Expanding. Needs time to soften with bottle age. Better in 2021. WA 95+ (6/2017): This wine represents a slight stylistic departure compared to past editions. The 2013 Barolo Ornato sees fruit sourced from Serralunga d'Alba from a site that is known for its power and concentration. This wine's identity is tightly linked to the wide popularity of this more robust taste profile. Pio Cesare opted to use a little less barrique and more delicate punch downs instead of pump overs (that tend to increase tannins and bitterness). They have also opted to increase maceration times by a slight margin. The results are spectacular. This is a wine I have always admired and I'm pleased to say that it just got better. Dark fruit and plum segue to soft spice, leather and licorice. VM 91 (10/2017): The 2013 Barolo Ornato is a powerful, authoritative wine with plenty of tannic heft, muscle and darkness. Today, the Ornato comes across as a bit squashed by its oak and not fully expressive. I expected more, given the quality of this site and vintage. Both bottles I tasted of the 2013 Ornato were decidedly lackluster relative to recent vintages. Perhaps I have been unlucky, but based on what I have seen so far, the Ornato is one of the few disappointments of 2013. Antonio Galloni. |

| JD 94 (5/2023): Introspective but expressive, the 2019 Barolo Ornato takes on more spice and savor with its notes of black licorice and cedar and is bolder in and broader in its expression. It has a more solar and warming feel, with medium to full body, ample structure, and fantastic length. This more serious and broad-shouldered wine will benefit from time in the cellars and move into more leather and red plum tones in the future. Drink 2025-2045. Audrey Frick. |
