VM 94 (4/2023): The 2006 Shiraz Hill of Grace is still young and feels far from its peak. It already displays significant volume and rich aromas of primary mulberry, blackberry, clove and cedar in a riper frame that have not yet been fleshed out. The palate also remains a little closed with spicy dark berry fruits wound up in mouthcoating tannins. However, the length and balance are immaculate, suggesting it just needs time. Angus Hughson. WA 97 (4/2013): Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2006 Hill of Grace has some oak poking through the red and blue fruit aromas, with underlying toast, marmite and sage hints. Medium to full-bodied, it is a very tight knit and youthful wine with crisp acid, medium to firm, finely grained tannins and a long finish. Drink it 2014 to 2030+. |

WA 95 (2/2009): The Shiraz for the 2006 The Descendant is sourced from a single vineyard and co-fermented with 8% Viognier. It was aged for 18 months in seasoned French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it emits an expressive, sexy perfume of violets, wood smoke, black pepper, espresso, blueberry, and chocolate. Full-bodied, on the palate, this voluptuous effort has great concentration with a noticeable uplift from the Viognier, tons of spicy black fruits, enough ripe tannin to evolve for a decade, and 60-second finish. It should provide pleasure from 2016 through 2036. VM 93+ (10/2008): Inky violet. Powerfully scented, brooding aromas of boysenberry, cherry compote, licorice and smoky minerals; aeration brings up brighter black raspberry and blackberry qualities, which carry onto the palate. Broad and deeply concentrated, presenting a seductive array of sweet dark berry liqueur flavors and a late jolt of tangy minerals. Clings tenaciously to the palate and finishes with lingering blackberry and candied plum flavors. This really deserves some patience. WS 73 (12/2008): Strange, green, bitter flavors turn gamy on the finish. Shiraz and Viognier. 900 cases made. |

WA 94 (2/2009): The 2006 Les Amis is 100% Grenache aged in new oak for 18 months. Purple-colored, it exhibits an enthralling nose of smoky oak, roses, garrigue, lavender, black cherry, and black raspberry. It conceals enough ripe tannin to support 5-7 years of additional cellaring. This layered, lengthy effort should be at its best from 2012 to 2024. VM 94 (10/2009): (100% grenache) Deep, vivid ruby. Strikingly perfumed bouquet of black raspberry, cherry pie, incense and anise. Lush and creamy, with deep, sweet red fruit and bitter cherry flavors complemented by notes of exotic candied flowers and licorice. Supple tannins frame the expansive fruit and add definition to the long, focused, spicy finish. WS 92 (2/2010): Ripe and generous, offering a supple mouthful of cherry, black pepper, bacon and spice flavors that rocket through a layer of fine tannins. The spices, including cardamom and anise seed, come through strongly on the finish. Drink now through 2017. 300 cases made. |

VM 92+ (7/2008): Inky ruby. Ripe blackberry and boysenberry aromas are youthfully brooding and slightly smoky, opening reluctantly to display fruitcake, baking spices and dried flowers. Deep and chewy, with sappy dark berry flavors and slow-building spiciness. Really fills the mouth, but this isn't exactly heavy, or too sweet. Definitely give this densely packed shiraz some age. Josh Raynolds. WA 92 (2/2009): The 2006 Shiraz Lily’s Garden comes from McLaren Vale. It reveals a complex aromatic array including balsam wood, spice box, violets, earth notes, pepper, blueberry, and blackberry. Layered and rich, it conceals enough ripe tannin to evolve for another 2-3 years. It has outstanding grip, depth, and a lengthy, pure finish. |
