BH 87 (4/2024): (from vineyards in Santenay, Marsannay and the lower portions of Volnay.) An unusually elegant nose for the genre features perfumed aromas of plum, violet and cool cherry. There is both a lovely texture and energy to the delicious middleweight flavors that deliver fine length on the lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Serve it cool though and you won't notice. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! VM 88-90 (1/2024): The 2022 Bourgogne is bursting with red purplish fruit, spice, rose petal and lavender. This mid-weight, fruity Bourgogne is an absolute delight. Enjoy it over the next few years. It’s a great introduction to this range. Neal Martin. |

BH 87 (4/2025): (from vineyards in Santenay, Marsannay and the lower portions of Volnay). This is unusually pretty for a Bourgogne with its array of ripe plum and violet scents. There is fine volume to the utterly delicious and solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that display impressive length on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This is a quality Bourgogne and worth a look, especially for value. Drink 2026+. JM 86-88 (10/2024): The Bourgogne includes fruit from Pernand and Santenay and Marsannay. Rich deep purple, very ripe cherry, not cooked, but in the opulent style. Slightly firm fruit behind, with a certain glossiness before the crunchy finish. Drink from 2026-2028. |

| BH 95 (4/2019): A gorgeously spicy nose features elegant red berry, Asian-style tea and a hint of violet aromas. The succulent and seductively textured medium weight plus flavors coat the palate with plenty of sap while delivering excellent length on the strikingly long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This will need a few years to develop more overall depth but this should be seriously good when it finally reaches its apogee. Drink 2033+. |

| BH 90 (4/2021): There is noticeable volatile acidity to the overtly spicy melange of red berries and subtly exotic nuances. The sleeker and more intense big-bodied flavors possess excellent delineation that carries over to the naturally sweet, mineral laden and sneaky long finish. This needs to add depth though the underlying material very much appears to be present for that to occur. As I have observed many times in these pages, volatile acidity is something that all wines have, it’s the degree that matters and whether the nose would bother most people is hard to judge but it did me. Drink 2036+. |

BH 94 (4/2024): An exuberantly spicy and quite floral-suffused nose features notes of wild currant, cherry and a gamy hint. The super-sleek and even finer yet more powerful larger-bodied flavors display impressive power on the even more complex, balanced and highly persistent finale. This is a big wine yet the balance is such that it could be approached after only 5 to 7 years. Drink 2034+. VM 93-95+ (1/2024): The 2022 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is an imposing young wine. A blast of blue fruit, lavender, licorice, gravel, crushed rock and menthol saturates the palate. This bruiser is going to need time to be at its best, but it is pretty impressive, even in the early going. Neal Martin. |

BH 94 (4/2025): A beautifully layered, and more expressive, nose features notes of exotic tea and just cracked black pepper on the fresh blend of both red and black pinot fruit. There is markedly better mid-palate density to the bigger-bodied flavors that are supported by dense but fine tannins on the impressively persistent and well-balanced finale. This is lovely and quite classy as well. Drink 2035+. JM 94-96 (10/2024): A rich ruby purple. The bouquet has a flamboyant weight of fruit backed up by a certain amount of oak as well. Henri finds lime blossom, which adds a further lick of freshness to the vibrant cherries. The fruit continues on the palate long after the fine tannins. Promising. Drink from 2032-2040. |

BH 93 (4/2016): (from a <.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis.) A ripe but restrained nose features notes of both red and dark berry fruit, earth, humus, smoke and exotic tea scents along with a background hint of oak toast. There is impressive volume to the well-muscled and broad-shouldered flavors that possess plenty of underlying tension, all wrapped in a complex, rustic and lingering finish that is less austere than usual. This beauty will require at least a decade to be at its best. Drink 2024+. VM 90-93 (1/2016): (aged in 75% new oak, but Boillot used 350-liter barrels to get more freshness): Healthy dark red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, chocolate, menthol and herbs are less fruity today than the Volnays here. Large-scaled, round and sweet, showing more complex, soil-driven salinity than easy fruit in the early going. Powerful material here. Finishes saline, ripely tannic and long. This wine may need a solid eight years in the cellar to approach maturity. |

| BH 94 (4/2019): (from a <.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis.) A brooding deeply pitched and softly spicy nose reflects plenty of earth and sauvage characters to the dark berry aromas that are trimmed in soft wood nuances. There is excellent size, weight and power to the muscular flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the imposingly structured and youthfully austere finish that is sneaky long. This is a big 2017 that is supported by chewy but not really rustic tannins that make clear that at least some patience is advisable. Drink 2032+. |

WA 94 (1/2020): The 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is showing very well, soaring from the glass with aromas of wild berries, rose petals, violets, orange rind and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with lively acids and a powdery but elegantly refined chassis of structuring tannins, concluding with a long and resonant finish. BH 92 (4/2020): ( from a <.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis.) This plays right on the edge of volatile acidity with its nose of poached plum, black raspberry and warm earth. The middle weight flavors are not especially dense but do possess a highly attractive mouthfeel while displaying good power on the bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. This moderately firm effort is somewhat awkward at present, but I suspect that it will recover with age. Drink 2033+. |

| BH 93 (4/2021): (from a ~.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis). A brooding and restrained nose reluctantly offers up its aromas of red and dark currant, warm earth and a menthol hint. There is outstanding volume and mid-palate density to the reasonably refined if not exactly elegant flavors that culminate in the hallmark austerity of a classic Clos de Vougeot. Patience not only a virtue but essential with this wine. Drink 2034+. |

| BH 92 (4/2023): A moderately deeply pitched nose combines notes of black cherry and earth with those of violet and plum. There is fine mid-palate volume to the fleshy and palate coating flavors that possess focused power on the lingering finish that is neither especially austere nor robust in 2021. With that said, this will still be more than capable of repaying 12 to 15 years of keeping. |

BH 91 (4/2023): (from a ~.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis). A brooding and distinctly earthy nose is comprised mostly by notes of plum and dark currant. The sleek and precise, but not especially dense, flavors do possess a lovely sense of energy and precise that also characterizes the balanced and youthfully austere finale that is sufficiently firm to assure at least a decade of development potential. JM 91-94 (10/2024): A deep ruby purple. Powerful dense red fruit without detail as yet. Solid, concentrated, four-square, with no shortage of fruit, and a few tannins completing the muscular structure. Perhaps not quite as persistent as the best in the cellar. Drink from 2031-2037. |

BH 94 (5/2011): (near the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted North-South). In contrast to the other wines in the range, there is no reduction present to mute the elegant, pure and noticeably cool aromas of red and blue pinot fruit, wet stone, warm earth and a sauvage hint. The big-bodied flavors are rich, intense and serious with ample muscularity and mid-palate concentration that does a fine job of buffering the exceptionally firm tannic spine. This is a classic Chambertin of imposing length, size and weight but also one that will require two decades to come together. Drink 2029+. VM 94-97 (2/2011): Bright medium ruby, a bit less saturated than the Clos de Beze. Great wild, soil-inflected nose combines black raspberry, licorice, minerals, crushed stone, leather, mocha, spices and game, all lifted by a pungent peppery nuance. The palate offers utterly compelling sappy sweetness, with Outstanding energy to its extremely intense but primary flavors. Combines great power with an essentially gentle character. The impression of sappiness carries through to the saline, minerally, extremely long finish, which features suave, noble tannins. Boillot describes this wine as "easier and greater than the Clos de Beze." |

BH 94 (4/2013): (near the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted North-South). Somewhat counterintuitively this possesses riper fruit with distinct sauvage notes to the humus and mineral-inflected, brooding and very cool wild dark berry fruit aromas. There is excellent power to the driving and highly energetic, stony and robust flavors that display impressive mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in an austere, explosive and strikingly long finish. This is a serious wine but then again, isn’t Chambertin virtually always serious in its youth? Drink 2026+. VM 92-95 (2/2013): Good dark red. Very pure but reticent aromas of dark berries, mocha and sandalwood; smells creamy. Then lush and seamless in the mouth, but with great energy to the flavors of black cherry clafouti, dark chocolate, licorice and pepper. The explosive, slowly mounting finish features substantial fine-grained tannins and black fruit and pepper elements complicated by saline minerality. |

| BH 91 (4/2021): (near the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted North-South). Like the Clos de Bèze, here too there is a whiff of volatile acidity though in this case it is decidedly more subtle though still perceptible on the more restrained and more floral cool red currant scents. The equally restrained and transparent large-scaled flavors brim with both dry extract and minerality before concluding in a youthfully austere and markedly firm finale. I would make the same observation here as I did with the Bèze, which is to say it’s impossible to predict how VA will affect any given person’s perception of a wine but in this case, I was less bothered by it than with the Clos de Bèze. Drink 2036+. |

BH 94 (4/2025): (near the tree line at the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted in a North-South orientation). This is also beautifully layered and while not quite as spicy, it’s close though the fruit profile is derived more from plum and dark currant. The super-sleek and more mineral-driven flavors possess medium density and excellent underlying tension that gives the firm and youthfully austere finish real punch. Not surprisingly given that this is Chambertin, extended patience will be necessary. Drink 2035+. JM 95-97 (10/2024): More purple and less ruby compared to Beze. A greater depth of fruit, more layers to it. I loved the vigour of the Clos de Bèze but this has more of a natural majesty. Profound, with a silky texture on top of a hard rock Chambertin. Drink from 2032-2045. |

| VM 91-93 (1/2018): (in order to allow the seeds to ripen, Boillot waited until five days after he picked his Volnays to harvest this fruit on September 28, with 12.8% potential alcohol; 50% new oak): Moderately saturated bright medium red. Brooding aromas of dark fruits and menthol. Chalky and penetrating but youthfully tight, conveying a stronger impression of medicinal reserve than the Volnay Les Caillerets. A distinctly masculine, classic Pommard, juicy but imploded in the early going. The mounting finish features firm, mouth-saturating tannins, hints of spices and white pepper, and savory soil suggestions. The Boillots' holding is in Rugiens-Haut, on white soil and sand with relatively little iron content. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 93+ (1/2020): The 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens is the last time Boillot will produce this appellation, made from purchased grapes. Offering up aromas of dark berries, cassis, baking chocolate, candied peel and licorice, the wine is medium to full-bodied, muscular and chalky, with fine depth at the core, succulent acids and a long finish. BH 93 (4/2020): ( from equally sized parcels in both Rugiens Hauts and Bas that measure <1 ha.) A brooding and quite reserved nose grudgingly offers up pretty aromas of red and black cherry liqueur-like aromas that are cut with both spice and floral influences. There is a lovely sense of refinement to the intense and well-detailed larger-scaled flavors that brim with minerality on the powerful, serious and built-to-age finale. This too is well-worth searching out provided that you have the patience to let it slumber for at least 8 to 10 years first. Drink 2033+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

VM 90 (3/2015): Bright, dark red. Sweet red berries, nutty oak and subtle soil tones on the nose. Fat, sweet and spicy, showing good fullness for village wine. Savory, serious Volnay with good vinosity and density and a saline complexity. Finishes with broad, building, ripe tannins and good savory persistence. Antonio Galloni. BH 88 (4/2014): (Entirely from 5 different 1ers). An earthy and distinctly ripe nose of cassis, plum and soft floral aromas gives way to equally earthy middle weight flavors where once again the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained. The finale is firm without being rustic though there is enough youthful austerity to notice. This should reward mid-term cellaring. Drink 2018+. |

BH 90 (4/2024): ( from the 1er Clos de la Rougeotte.) This is also perfumed and fresh with its nose of crushed red berries, tea and floral wisps. There is a more sophisticated texture to the utterly delicious medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the youthfully austere, balanced and moderately firm finale. This offers excellent quality for its level. Drink 2029+. Outstanding! VM 91-93 (1/2024): The 2022 Volnay, all from 1er Cru Clos de lo Rougeotte, is a serious wine. Dark, rich and sensual, the 2022 is terrific. Silky, plush contours wrap around the finish. This supple, inviting Volnay is a huge overachiever. Then again, it is a 1er Cru in all but name. Neal Martin. |

BH 89 (4/2025): (from the 1er Clos de la Rougeotte). This is also aromatically quite pretty with a more elegant nose of black cherry, crushed anise and a whiff of rose petal. There is fine punch to the sleeker and more finely textured medium weight flavors that exude a lovely minerality on the sneaky long finale. A quality Volnay villages. Drink 2028+. JM 88-91 (10/2024): A rich and saturated crimson purple. Here there is more velvet in the texture. Still a certain firmness, more red berries than darker fruit, fills the palate and persists. Some of the grace of Volnay plus Henri Boillot’s uncompromising style. Drink from 2027-2031. |

| VM 93-95 (1/2014): Violets, licorice, blueberries and graphite are some of the many notes that take shape in the 2012 Volnay Les Santenots. There is more than enough structure to support the fruit in a dramatic, large-scaled Burgundy that captures the essence of the year in its explosive personality. This intense, powerful Volnay need serious time in the cellar. A generous, beautifully resonant finish rounds things off. Antonio Galloni. |

Bienvenues Batard Montrachet Grand Cru |

| |
WA 94-96 (8/2012): The 2011 Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet is built on a fabric of exquisite textural finesse and elegance. The Bienvenues is a bit less overt in its bouquet than the Criots, but richer, deeper and more seamless in its fruit. Here, too, it is the wine’s sheer pedigree that stands out most. Anticipated maturity: 2014+. BH 94 (6/2013): This is also notably ripe but the aromas do not run to the exotic as the honeysuckle, apricot, white peach and subtle spice notes are entirely classic. There is an appealing succulence to the delicious, intense and strikingly fine medium-bodied flavors and while there is certainly a sense of focused power present on the long, clean and refined finish, this is essentially a Bienvenues of finesse. Drink 2021+. Don't miss! VM 92-95 (9/2012): Bright yellow. Vibrant nose combines smoke, honey and sexy minerality. More concentrated and sweet than the Criots but with the verve--not to mention the saline density--of Boillot's Pucelles. Lovely creamy old-viney texture and length. The minerally finish leaves the taste buds quivering. |

VM 95+ (9/2016): Ineffable high-pitched aromas of lemon zest and silex convey a powerful impression of terroir. Wonderfully juicy and penetrating, conveying great mineral definition and site character but youthfully austere today owing to its bracing acidity. Most impressive today on the racy, extract-rich finish, where lemon, lime and crushed stone flavors build inexorably and leave the taste buds quivering. I may be underestimating this wine's potential longevity. Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (6/2016): (100% from Aloxe fruit in Le Charlemagne.) Mineral reduction and lime hints add breadth to the lilac, green apple and tangerine skin-suffused aromas. There is seriously impressive size and weight to the dramatically powerful, rich and concentrated big-bodied flavors that possess obvious muscle and simply fantastic length on the overtly austere, deep and palate staining finish. This is a chiseled and sleekly powerful effort that should also be capable of aging effortlessly for years. Drink 2026+. Don't miss! WA 94 (1/2016): The 2014 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a clean, well defined bouquet with hints of almond and white chocolate, although I was seeking a little more personality to come through. The palate shows the nose how it's done and it is probably more indicative: spice, ginger, almond, citrus fruit and a touch of white peach. This is very complex and the more you remain in its presence, the more it wins you over. Cellar this for 4-5 years and you should have a very fine Corton Charlemagne on your hands, but it covets its secrets for now. |

| BH 95 (6/2023): This is also aromatically cool and decidedly restrained with its array of green apple, mineral reduction, citrus zest and a vaguely Chablis-like hint of oyster shell and iodine. The beautifully textured broad-shouldered flavors flash both focused power and an abundance of minerality on the tension-filled, bone-dry and balanced finale. This is also a strikingly pretty wine that is very much built to reward extended keeping. |

BH 96 (6/2024): (from Aloxe.) A markedly floral-suffused nose somewhat grudgingly reveals its array of exuberantly fresh and spicy Granny Smith apple, acacia blossom, oyster shell and iodine. While there is certainly good richness to the succulent and seductive broad-shouldered flavors, the mouthfeel is really quite sleek with both good detail and power to the taut, serious and built-to-age finale that is given a bit of lift from the presence of bitter citrus rind. This is almost painfully intense and youthfully austere effort could use better depth but that should present no particular problem if it's given a chance to develop. This too is first-rate. Drink 2034+. Don't miss! VM 93-95 (1/2024): The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a blend of fruit from Aloxe-Corton (75%) and Pernand-Vergelesses (25%), a combination that works well in giving the wine balance. There's quite a bit of phenolic intensity and youthful austerity here. Herbs, crushed rocks, graphite, mint and citrus confit build nicely. I very much admire the vibrancy here, even if the 2022 remains a bit unyielding today. Neal Martin. |

| JM 94-97 (10/2024): A paler colour, also beautifully done, with little stones infusing the bouquet. “This is far from being ridiculous” suggests Henri. A wonderful thread. The oak is a touch more marked, an iron backbone yet with some delicacy to the fruit, fresh apple, a little citrus, some pear as well, and all a harmonious whole. Really well done. Drink from 2030-2038. |

BH 94 (6/2017): There is a whisper of the exotic to the riper aromas that also possess admirable purity if noticeably less elegance. The succulent, powerful and dense big-bodied flavors once again coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the balanced and harmonious finale. While this isn't an elegant wine per se (Criots rarely is), it is more refined than it usually is. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! VM 91-94 (9/2016): (two-thirds new oak): Bright yellow. Sweet aromas of yellow peach and spicy oak. Sweet, plush and full but not heavy, offering thick, concentrated yellow peach and oak flavors complicated by a saline quality. Finishes very broad and a bit youthfully phenolic. A fruit bomb of a Criots, from south-facing vines. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 93 (6/2020): Once again there is a discreet whiff of exotic fruit to the white peach, spiced tea and dried yellow fruit aromas where a background hint of viognier creeps in. The caressing and unusually sleek medium-bodied flavors possess fine volume and focused power on the caressing and refreshingly saline-inflected finish. This is particularly good in the context of a very hot and dry vintage which is not usually especially propitious for Criots. Drink 2028+. WA 94 (1/2020): Aromas of orange oil, honeycomb, ripe pears, wheat toast and paraffin wax introduce the 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, ample and textural wine that's fleshy and enveloping but underpinned by an impressively chalky structure that brings unusual tension and grip to this inherently generous terroir. |

BH 89 (6/2024): A vague whiff of the exotic lurks in the background in the form of orange peel, pear compote and a hint of wet stone reduction. There is both excellent volume and density to the delicious middleweight flavors that exude evident minerality on the balanced, clean and dry finale. This lovely effort could use better depth but the underlying material suggests that should be no problem if given a few years in a cool cellar. Drink 2029+. Outstanding! VM 90-92 (1/2024): The 2022 Meursault is a rich, opulent white. Lemon confit, marzipan, spice and crushed rocks are all amplified. Clean mineral notes extend the finish while also providing a counterpoint to all the textural richness. The Meursault is a blend of parcels (including En Luraule, Petits Charrons, Casse-Têtes, Les Pelles), all estate, high up on the slope. The 25% new oak is nicely judged. Neal Martin. |

| BH 92 (6/2021): There is a trace of matchstick character to the green fruit and compote-like white orchard fruit aromas. The sleek, delicious and vibrant medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing, but overtly powerful mouthfeel while delivering excellent length on the very rich and sappy finale. This needs more depth but as examples of Poruzots generally go, it is really quite sophisticated. Drink 2027+. |

| JM 90-92 (10/2024): From upper Porusots. A rich yellow with a green tint. This is oakier and even a bit heavy on the nose. Fuller white fruit on the palate, the colour and nose will be cleaned up before bottling. A touch of bacon fat. More complicated to taste today. Given Henri Boillot’s track record I would expect this to be sorted before bottling, and thus to rate higher than today’s verdict. Drink from 2029-2033. |

BH 93 (6/2024): Here too there is a subtle whiff of the exotic on the aromas of petrol, spice and a variety of floral elements. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the solidly concentrated and mineral driven flavors that feel alive on the palate before concluding in a bracing, balanced and bitter lemon-inflected finish. This is also lovely and worth considering plus it should drink well on the younger side if desired. Drink 2029+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! Value Value! VM 92-94 (1/2024): The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru is bright, tense and nicely focused. Lemon peel, mint, crushed rocks and white pepper lend notable energy to this wonderfully vibrant, sculpted Puligny. All the elements are so well balanced. Saline notes emerge in the glass, supporting the beautifully persistent finish nicely. This is so attractive. Neal Martin. |

The caressing but solidly energetic middle weight plus flavors manage to be at once elegant yet powerful before culminating in an equally austere, compact and beautifully well-balanced finale. | BH 95 (3/2022): (from both Chambolle and Morey fruit). A cool, pretty and quite floral-suffused nose speaks mostly of red currant, plum, earth and a hint of just sliced fennel. This excellent effort should amply repay extended cellaring. Drink 2035+. |

Auxey-Duresses Rouge |

VM 91 (1/2023): The 2020 Auxey-Duresses Village has a delightful bouquet that has more finesse than the Monthélie tasted alongside - vivacious Morello cherries and crushed strawberries. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy cranberry and strawberry, bright and taut with a transparent finish. Warning - you will be totally smitten. (Drink between 2023-2034). Neal Martin. WA 90+ (1/2023): The 2020 Auxey-Duresses is firmer and more structured than its Meursault counterpart, exhibiting aromas of plums, sweet spices, smoke and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and chalky palate that will merit a bit of patience. |

| WA 90 (1/2023): Aromas of plums, dark berries, smoke and spices introduce the 2020 Meursault Rouge, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that's textural and demonstrative, with sweet tannins and a succulent core of fruit. |

| VM 88 (1/2023): The 2020 Monthélie Village has a crisp raspberry coulis and wild strawberry-scented nose. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, veins of blue fruit and a little hardness towards the finish at the moment, so give this a couple more years in bottle. (Drink between 2023-2032). Neal Martin. |

VM 94 (1/2023): The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru is the usual blend of Taillepieds and Clos des Chênes. It has a vivid nose with Bing cherry, wild strawberry and a touch of blackcurrant, quite citrus in style and very focused. The palate is beautifully balanced with pliant tannins, fresh acidity and ripe red fruit, with wonderful mineralité and delineation on the finish. This is one of the finest reds that I have tasted from Coche-Dury in recent years. (Drink between 2024-2036). Neal Martin. WA 93+ (1/2023): The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of dark berries, peonies, baking chocolate and sweet forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, supple and sensual, with refined tannins, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish, it's balanced to age with grace. |

JM 93-95 (11/2021): A vivid and vibrant fresh purple, reflecting the low pH (3.30). The nose is exuberant and vivacious at the same time. This is a late malolactic wine and has been reduced, but not today. Despite the thick texture and super charged raspberry, signs of higher alcohol (in fact 15%) I don’t feel any specific heat and the Charmes-Chambertin shows a pretty long finish. VM 93-95 (12/2021): The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru had only finished its malolactic two weeks before my visit. Though I spent time with the sample from barrel, I think it was just a bit too soon to really get a reading on the nose. The palate is more expressive and harmonious: crunchy black cherry and blueberry fruit, fine structure, a touch of white pepper leaving the mouth tingling on the finish. Give this 4-6 years in bottle because there is a fine Charmes-Chambertin here. (Drink between 2026-2048) Neal Martin. BH 92-94 (1/2022): This is the first wine to exhibit any appreciable reduction and it's enough to knock down the nose. More interesting are the rich, vibrant and intense larger-scaled flavors that possess very good mid-palate concentration before terminating in an even firmer, powerful and impressively long quality. This also appears to offer very fine quality in a built-to-age package. (Drink starting 2035). |

| VM 96-98 (12/2021): The 2020 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a powerful yet beguiling, elegant bouquet that offers layers of red cherry and blackberry fruit, the oak here seamless integrated, likewise the whole bunch. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, saturated tannins, the fleshy/puppy fat almost disguising the backbone present here. Very persistent on the finish, this is an excellent, luxurious and yet sophisticated Clos de la Roche. |

VM 94-96 (12/2021): The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a very pure and quite precocious bouquet with black cherries, crushed violet and peony aromas, actually not unlike a Romanée-Saint-Vivant in style. Thet palate is succulent on the entry with candied orange peel infusing the mainly black fruit that merges into more red fruit towards the velvety finish. Quite gorgeous. (Drink between 2026-2048). Neal Martin. BH 92-94 (1/2022): A fresh and unusually expressive nose features notes of red and dark cherry, white pepper and a hint of kirsch. The delicious and intense middle weight flavors possess fine depth and persistence on the equally youthfully austere finale that is also sufficiently austere to easily repay 12+ years of cellaring. Fine quality here. (Drink starting 2032) JM 91-94 (11/2021): The Clos Vougeot has just finished malolactic so is difficult to read. Perhaps the deepest darkest colour of the cellar. The nose is very backward, blackcurrant and elderberry with very dark raspberry. Slightly dry tannins but I put that down to the late malolactic. Peppery notes here. |

| VM 94-96 (12/2021): The 2020 Echézeaux Grand Cru offers real intensity on the nose, quite powerful with pure dark cherries, cassis, crushed violet and blood orange. Stylistically, this is not unlike Thomas Collardot’s good friend, Sébastien Cathiard’s in style. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, veins of blood orange and a pinch of sea salt. Lovely structure and focus on the finish. Excellent - this is an Echézeaux from the top drawer. Neal Martin. |

| BH 91 (4/2022): Here too there is just enough wood present to remark upon framing the overtly floral-suffused aromas of spicy and ripe dark berries. There is both excellent drive and delineation to the rich, sappy and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a dusty, balanced and moderately austere finish. Like several wines in the range, this too will need to develop more depth to achieve the upper end of my projected range. Drink 2030+. |

| BH 92 (1/2023): Somewhat surprisingly the nose is quite reserved with its brooding array of very ripe dark berries, cassis, violet, lavender and a whisper of herbal tea. The succulent and exceptionally rich, even opulent, flavors also coat the palate with an abundance of sap that does a quality job of buffering the markedly firm tannic spine shaping the beautifully persistent finale. This is more robust than usual but a wine that should repay extended cellaring. |

WA 91 (1/2023): The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Village has turned out beautifully in bottle, opening in the glass with aromas of cherries, cassis and baking spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, deep and primary palate with a vibrant core of fruit, lively acids and powdery structuring tannins. This isn't in any way austere, but it will require more patience than its 2019 or 2021 counterparts to reach its peak of expression. BH 89 (1/2023): Notes of green tea and floral elements add breadth to the aromas of spicy and earthy red currant and cherry. The delicious and appealing energetic medium weight flavors possess a really lovely texture before culminating in a compact, serious and youthfully austere finale. This quality effort is built to reward mid- to perhaps even longer-term cellaring. VM 89 (1/2023): The 2020 Morey-Saint-Denis Village has a heavily perfumed blackberry and crushed strawberry nose, quite sensual, touches of bergamot. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, rather generous with a lovely, slightly saline finish. Neal Martin. |

| BH 92 (1/2023): Discreet wood influence sets off ripe and very fresh aromas of black cherry, spice, violet and a whiff of the sauvage. The succulent and notably denser medium weight plus flavors flash focused power on the youthfully austere, firm and balanced finale. As it usually does, this fine effort boxes well above its weight. Excellent quality here but again, patience strongly suggested. |

VM 89-91 (12/2021): The 2020 Gevrey-Chamerbtin Vieilles Vignes offers a mixture of red and black fruit laced with blood orange and quince, nicely focused with a sense of energy developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. Fine acidity, just slightly confit-like towards the finish that erodes a little of the precision compared to other cuvees, though there is satisgfying length. (Drink between 2025-2040). Neal Martin. BH 88-90 (1/2022): Ripe and nicely layered aromas are comprised by notes of poached plum, warm earth and a whisper of the sauvage. The juicy and fleshy medium weight flavors possess both good volume and verve before terminating in a mildly rustic and warm finale. (Drink starting 2027). |

JM 89-92 (11/2021): Racked to tank to bottle before Christmas. A massively deep black colour with a purple rim. The nose is supercharged, too flamboyant perhaps, but works better in the mouth. Some pepper behind with plenty of juice, recognisably Nuits with very good length. BH 88-90 (1/2022): A mentholated top note is present on the markedly ripe aromas of cassis, earth and bitter chocolate. The rich, velvet-textured and concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess pretty good verve and length on the slightly warm finale. This will need to develop better depth to merit the upper-end of my projected range. Drink 2026+. |

BH 90-93 (1/2022): Very ripe yet still reasonably fresh aromas are comprised by notes of roasted plum, black cherry, cassis and earth. The dense, powerful and muscular broad-shouldered flavors are supported by a very firm tannic spine on the robust, serious and very compact finale. This is quite impressive though certainly not typical. Drink 2035+. JM 90-93 (11/2021): No separate HD cuvée was made this year as there was not enough wine, after the hail as well as in a dry year. Long slow fermentation and the malolactic is still happening. Black purple. Ignore the nose for now, as it shows malolactic elements. Super intensity, a bit of Bovril meatiness, really hard to judge though looks like will broadly be the same pattern as the others, though perhaps even more concentrated. |

JM 92-95 (11/2021): Almost black in the middle. More a very intense sun dried dark cherry bouquet than raisins though. Pretty heady stuff either way round. Super sumptuous with this exciting red cherry fruit as well as black, and good acidity. It would be easily possible to fall in love with this, even if it is more powerful than I really like. VM 91-93 (12/2021): The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru did not suffer too much hail according to Antoine Gouges, at most 5%. This is very ripe and slightly gourmand on the nose, light savory notes emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, nicely controlled and then just tightening up towards the finish that shows just a bit of VA. Quite dense of a Pruliers, give this some time in the cellar. Neal Martin. BH 91-93 (1/2022): A more deeply pitched and brooding nose only grudgingly reveals its aromas of cassis plum liqueur and pungent earth where the latter is also found on the vibrant and well-detailed big-bodied and tautly muscular flavors that deliver excellent depth and persistence. This is not as dense as the best in the range, but it should have no trouble amply repaying 12 to 15 years of bottle aging. Drink 2032+. |

| BH 93 (1/2023): A ripe yet notably cooler nose reflects notes of purple fruit, cassis, poached plum and warm earth. The is fine size, weight and mid-palate density to the larger-scaled flavors that terminate in a youthfully austere and almost aggressively mineral-driven finish. This firmly structured effort is almost always the domaine's best 1er and in 2020, it appears to have no real competition. (Drink starting 2032). |

| WA 91 (1/2022): From a small new supplier of fruit who is working organically and adopting many of Lachaux's viticultural methods comes the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges La Petite Charmotte, a medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated wine evocative of plums, red berries, rose petals and cherries. Powdery tannins frame its deep core of fruit. |

VM 95-97 (12/2021): The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru was showing a little reduction when I tasted it from barrel, so the nose was difficult to read. The palate is stunning though: fine tannins, intense red fruit, thrilling tension with a gradual build to a poised finish. Outstanding, but it will need time. (Drink between 2027-2055). Neal Martin. BH 91-93 (1/2022): More elegant and cooler aromas are comprised by notes of violet, lavender, anise, red cherry coulis and dark currant. The lilting but impressively intense middle weight flavors possess plenty of minerality on the youthfully austere, focused and beautifully long finale. This less firmly structured effort will also need to develop better depth but it's already extremely pretty and satisfying. (Drink starting 2028). |

| VM 90 (5/2022): The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with dark cherry and cassis fruit, pressed violets coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, ripe red fruit, good depth, Vosne-like with touches of dark chocolate and tobacco on the finish. Give this chap two or three years in bottle. Neal Martin. |

| BH 91-93 (4/2022): This also very ripe yet avoids being over the top with its liqueur-like aromatic profile of spiced black cherry, cassis and sauvage hints. There is both excellent volume and freshness to the dense and, somewhat unusually, more refined medium weight flavors that tighten up on the youthfully austere, complex and lingering finale. |

VM 95-97 (12/2021): The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St. Marc 1er Cru is curiously much less expressive on the nose than the Clos des Argillières despite coaxing. Finally, after I am already bloody late for my next appointment, it unfolds with wonderful mineral-rich blue fruit. The palate is clean and very precise, extremely focused, the oak seamlessly integrated and it fans out in splendid fashion on the lightly spiced fashion. About as good as Nuits Saint-Georges you can find. Neal Martin. BH 91-94 (1/2022): (a .93 ha monopole of the domaine.) A ripe but cool and pure nose is comprised by notes of black raspberry liqueur, anise, violet, wood spice and a hint of the sauvage. The suave and palate drenching flavors possess both good energy and minerality before culminating in dusty, youthfully austere and firm finish. This attractive if compact effort is also going to need at least a modicum of patience. |

BH 87-89 (1/2022): Once again, the nose is very ripe yet manages to retain reasonable freshness on the aromas black raspberry coulis, cassis and plenty of Savigny style earth. The rich, suave and mouth coating flavors possess fine mid-palate density while delivering solid length on the rustic finale. This too is impressive in its fashion but it's certainly not typical. (Drink starting 2024). VM 86-88 (12/2021): The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Village had a bit too much VA on the nose for me and rather smudged the definition, the cassis and black cherry fruit. The palate was likewise a little too candied and rich, the Les Lavières that followed showing much more precision and terroir expression. A quasi-Syrah-like finish. I admit to being flummoxed by this cuvée from barrel. Neal Martin. |

BH 99 (1/2022): A distinctly cool and exuberantly fresh nose features reticent wonderfully spiced notes of various dark berries along with forest floor nuances that include humus and earth. The intensity of the imposingly broad-shouldered and muscular flavors is borderline painful with impressive power on the hugely long finish that is supported by incredibly dense but quite fine-grained tannins. This is magnificent and a wine of class and grace that will justly vie for wine of the vintage honors when it's time for such assessments. It's extremely rare that I put 30-year initial drinking windows for modern red Burgundies, but my prediction is that this stunningly brilliant wine will age glacially. Drink 2050+. JM 96-100 (11/2021): An imperial robe as we have come to expect. The bouquet is very backward, no problem there either, all about the fruit, the new wood is irrelevant. Starts slowly then builds immaculately, still too early really to see the detail. As always it is about grace style intensity and length rather than overt muscle, all the finesse one can want. Long and lovely. |

Starts slowly then builds immaculately, still too early really to see the detail. As always it is about grace style intensity and length rather than overt muscle, all the finesse one can want. Long and lovely. |

| BH 95-98 (1/2022): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha section planted to chardonnay.) As is often the case, this is aromatically similar to the Chambolle 1er but it's less expressive and perhaps more densely fruited. There is notably better mid-palate concentration to the substantially sized big-bodied flavors that also possess a positively gorgeous mouthfeel while exuding an abundance of mineral character on the hugely long and impeccably well-balanced and youthfully austere finale. This Zen-like effort is superb and a wine that should also age gracefully over the next two decades. Drink 2040+. Don't miss! |

VM 92+ (4/2007): Medium red-ruby color. Sappy, nuanced nose combines red cherry, fresh herbs and minerals. Wonderfully vibrant in the mouth, with sappy, sweet cherry and mineral flavors lifted by a note of cinnamon. This really coats the mouth with dusty extract. Conveys an impression of very even ripening. Finishes with suave tannins and noteworthy energy. This strikes me as very Chambolle in style. This is more harmonious today than the Clos la Roche but will be even better with seven or eight years in the bottle. BH 92 (1/2007): A more deeply pitched nose of dark and blue berry fruits laced with earth and a lovely and distinct violet note that is followed by very rich, dense and serious flavors that finish with noticeable austerity. As it usually is, this is a powerful wine that possesses huge length and is sufficiently well structured that it will require the better part of a decade to really open up and reveal its full, and considerable, potential. The best of these '04s. Drink 2014+. |

| BH 96 (1/2008): A surprisingly expressive and high-toned nose of blue, black and violet aromas trimmed in touches of smoke, earth and wood precede the supple and exceptionally fresh flavors that are detailed, textured, serious and powerful with huge underlying reserves of material and along with the RSV, the longest finale of the group. This displays the youthful, indeed almost cool austerity one would expect from a classically structured Bonnes Mares and should age effortlessly yet it is not so firmly structured that it will be unapproachable young. In a word, brilliant. Drink 2019+. |

BH 93 (1/2010): A very high-toned, airy and layered nose of red berry fruit and distinct floral notes, particularly dried red and white rose petal with a touch of lavender, slides gracefully into pure, intense, rich, full and focused middle weight flavors that possess excellent power and punch with ample minerality on the wonderfully long and moderately austere finish. This is an Outstanding effort in the context of the vintage. Drink 2019+. VM 91-94 (4/2009): Bright, deep red. Aromas of raspberry liqueur, blueberry, menthol and musky herbs. Rich, chewy and dry; comes across as quite austere after the last couple of grand crus. But then Jeremy Seysses finds this quality to be reassuring in the context of 2007. "I'm drawn to austerity in this vintage," he told me, adding that he plans to lay down magnums of this wine in his personal cellar, along with the Clos de la Roche and Echezeaux. Finishes with dusty tannins and excellent thrust. |

| BH 92 (1/2020): An exceptionally pretty and, similar to the Malconsorts, somewhat sweet nose combines notes of lavender, rose petal, violet, red currant and a whiff of orange pekoe tea. There is good if not special mid-palate density to the overtly intense flavors that terminate in a dusty, austere and reasonably powerful finish where the tannins are a bit spiky. My sense is though that with a few years of age they will round off and render the finish more harmonious. Drink 2029+. |

| VM 89-91 (1/2018): Good dark red. More musky and bound-up on the nose than the Morey-Saint-Denis villages, offering slightly rustic scents of mocha and game. The element of animal reduction carries through on the fine-grained palate, where the wine's inner-mouth energy comes as a surprise. Finishes with a firm spine of chewy tannins. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 87-89 (1/2019): An exceptionally fresh and very pretty nose offers up notes of both red and blue pinot fruit, lavender and a trace of spice nuances. The supple, lacy and seductively textured middle weight flavors flash a touch of minerality before culminating in a dusty finish where a hint of bitter pit fruit character surfaces. I like the balance and this should drink well early but age over the mid-term too. |

BH 89-92 (1/2009): Somewhat surprisingly, the aromatic profile here is a clear step up in elegance with an airy and beautifully layered mix of red and blue fruit that carries obvious mineral and floral notes over to the firm, delicious and detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess a bit more depth and length though the differences are minor. A pretty wine with a solid tannic spine that is very Chambolle in basic character. Drink 2015+. Outstanding! VM 88-91 (4/2009): Medium red. Musky red berries, minerals, spices and flowers on the nose, perked up by a peppery nuance. Juicy, sappy and youthfully closed, with the peppery character contributing to the imploded impression. Finishes fresh but a bit dry-edged. Not at all open to inspection today, but there's good material here. |

BH 90 (1/2007): (from both Charmes proper and Mazoyères). A seductive mix of wood spice, high-toned red berry fruit aromas and warm earth undertones give way to round, rich and sappy flavors that offer excellent volume and a delicious yet serious finale. There is a bit more structure compared to the Combottes and this too is very pure, balanced, persistent and sweet. Drink 2012+. VM 88+ (4/2007): Medium red. Very closed on the nose. A bit sullen in the mouth, too, with an autumnal underbrush flavor dominating. Less easy to taste today than the Combottes and distinctly drier. In a tougher style, a bit dusty on the back. One senses the effect of hail here. |

WA 92 (6/2007): The parade of Dujac grand crus begins with their 2005 Charmes-Chambertin, assembled from several parcels in both Mazoyeres and “Ur-“ Charmes. Especially coming after the striking contrast of the two Vosne crus, this smells and tastes like the proverbial bowl of cherries. Polished and incipiently creamy, it’s like a pillow after the firm mattresses offered by the two Vosnes for long resting in the cellar. Licorice, chalk dust, and slight hints of game lend complexity to this wine’s forward fruit and inform a finish of refined structure and imposing length that should drink well early. VM 92+ (4/2008): Bright, deep red. Dark chocolate and medicinal berries on the rather closed nose. Concentrated and fresh but backward, with very ripe flavors of jammy morello cherry and cinnamon. As young and burly as this is, it shows more fruit today than the Echezeaux, and yet its medicinal reserve and concentration suggest that it will evolve slowly and go on for a couple of decades in the bottle. A distinctly powerful style of Charmes, but with subtle finishing minerality. BH 91-93 (1/2007): (from both Charmes proper and Mazoyères). An elegantly airy and densely fruited nose of red and blue berries, earth, game and subtle smoke and spice hints give way to sweet and rich flavors that offer good size and a real sense of volume in the mouth. This is a wine of finesse rather than power and I like the textured feel of the flavors and finish as there is a stylish generosity here. Drink 2015+. |

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru |

BH 93 (10/2001): This is a wine that I have enjoyed many times and it is one of those rare grands crus that has shown magnificently from day one and has never missed a beat since. Earthy yet exquisitely complex nose showing more than a trace of secondary aromas. The flavor profile is deep and broad with sap, wet earth, iron, minerals and a pure, intense, terrifically long finish. An Outstanding Clos de la Roche that is enjoyable now though it will continue to hold for many years. Drink 2001-2012. WA 89 (8/1995): The light to medium ruby-colored Clos de la Roche offers an earthy, mineral, and sweet berry fruit-scented nose. What follows is a wine of moderate constitution, undeniable elegance, and graceful Pinot fruit. Some hard tannin is noticeable in the finish, but it is not cause for concern. This wine should age gracefully for a decade or more, offering complex aromatics, and sweet, gamey Pinot fruit in a medium-bodied format. |

BH 92 (3/2004): There is a certain reserve and distance present in this wine that the other wines don't have. Slightly austere with a mineral essence that tends to suppress the pinot baby fat lurking beneath the surface. The potential here is enormous yet it is largely hidden and unlike many '99s, this is not at all showy but rather calm and deliberate. All the components are here for a long and slow evolution but it may take 10 to 15 years to realize its awesome potential. Try from 2010+. VM 91+ (4/2002): Saturated deep red. Tight, liqueur-like nose hints at cherry pie, lead pencil and varnish. Sweet but quite backward, showing more backbone than mid-palate flesh today. Tannins are on the tough side, but there are subtle lingering cherry and mineral flavors on the aftertaste. WA 92 (8/2001): Earth, stones, blackberries, and cassis can be discerned in the nose of the 1999 Clos De La Roche. On the palate, this dark fruit, mineral, and spice-flavored wine is medium-bodied, firmly structured, and tightly wound. It has Outstanding depth of fruit, as well as copious quantities of ripe tannins. Projected maturity: 2004-2012. |

WA 96 (6/2007): The Seysses’ 2005 Clos de la Roche charts new territory in this collection for sheer intensity. Black cherry, kirsch distillate, cedar, incense, iron filings, wet stone, and roasted meats and coffee represent a few of the immediate aromatic suggestions forced on this taster. In the mouth, it is similarly compelling, with an eruption of clear black cherry, cassis, and meat juices, faintly bitter notes of fruit skin and pungent herbal and mineral notes adding complexity. The texture is incipiently velvety, imposingly glossy, and a perfect cover for fine, abundant tannins. Spectacularly rich and reverberative in its multifaceted finish, this sensational wine deserves at least a decade of rest before re-opening. BH 95 (1/2008): Sweet black cherry fruit, warm earth, spice and a hint of the sauvage leads to focused, intense, vibrant and well-muscled full-bodied flavors that carry ample authority and punch on the complex, broad and superbly long finish. There is real depth of material here and the intensity builds from the mid-palate on back to the explosive if slightly austere finish. There is so much dry extract here that this is a dramatic and powerful wine. A stunner with simply amazing persistence. Drink: 2017+. VM 94+ (4/2008): Deep red-ruby. Pure but tight aromas of dark raspberry, brown spices and graphite. Dense, fat and rich but quite youthfully reduced, showing notes of smoke and toast. This amazingly chewy and tactile wine needs a lot of patience. Sullen today but very long and strong on the back end, with a powerful impression of dry extract and a finishing note of chocolate. If you invest in a wine like this, don't even think of opening it any time soon (Jeremy Seysses suggests waiting 12 years). |

BH 93-95 (1/2013): A deft touch of wood frames an intensely earthy, complex and notably ripe nose that features notes of spice, plum and black currant. There is excellent richness, size, weight and muscle to the vibrant middle weight plus flavors that exude a fine extract on the mineral-driven finish that offers extraordinarily good length. This is primary to the point of being quite backward yet it is not hard or aggressive as the balance of structural elements is impeccable. Drink 2023+. VM 92-94 (2/2013): Good medium red. Briary, smoky dark raspberry, minerals and flowers on the nose, plus a whiff of horseradish. Rich, dry and suave but youthfully closed, with pepper and spice notes running through to the firm aftertaste. This will be sweetened and opened up by a racking, but Seysses only planned to do this prior to the bottling. He admits that it's currently "angry"; it's certainly tricky to taste today. |

| BH 94 (1/2017): This is markedly more restrained with its reluctant but distinctly floral aromas of brooding dark berry fruit, earth, sauvage and hints of dried herbal tea. This classically proportioned Clos de la Roche is indisputably going to require extended keeping. Drink 2031+. |

| BH 91-94 (1/2020): This is the first wine to display any appreciable wood and menthol characters and here it's not subtle though to be clear, it doesn't dominate the very ripe liqueur-like aromas of black raspberry, cassis, floral and plenty of sauvage nuances. The sleekly textured and impressively intense large-scaled flavors possess evident power on the dusty, serious and palate coating finish that is definitely quite grippy and a bit coarse but the supporting tannins seem to be mature. I like the overall fruit/tannin/sap balance and while it will take extended bottle age, this should eventually come together. Drink 2038+. |

WA 92 (8/2005): While slightly reductive, the 2003 Clos St.-Denis admirably displays its enormous concentration and depth of fruit. Copious quantities of dark berries are intermingled with notes of herbs, licorice, and red cherries in its complex, and lengthy character. Projected maturity: 2008-2017. VM 90+ (4/2006): Good full, deep red. Musky, decadent aromas of red fruits, flowers, truffle and sweet oak. Concentrated, superripe and broad, with atypical weight for this cuvee Rather firm and unforthcoming today. Very horizontal on the finish, with fine tannins coating the palate. BH 89 (1/2006): There is better freshness here with a nose of mocha and very ripe plum that leads to flavors that are fresh, intense and beautifully textured as the sap buffers the firm and ripe tannins. This is a big wine by the usual standards of Clos St. Denis with ample power and volume culminating in a palate staining finish and noticeable warmth. Drink 2013+. |

BH 96 (1/2008): An earthy yet elegant nose features notes of game, subtle smoke, red, black and blue fruit and briar notes that sit atop concentrated, pure and detailed flavors wrapped in a wonderfully intense, balanced and strikingly long finish. This oozes class and refinement and interestingly, the mid-palate is almost tender yet there is a robust firmness to the massively long finish that lets one know that this is built for the next several decades. Most impressive and in contrast to the Malconsorts, this is even better than what I saw in barrel last year but note that patience will most definitely be required. Drink 2019+. VM 95+ (4/2008): Bright red-ruby. Musky, brooding aromas of dark fruits, mocha, spices and minerals; appears to be shutting down on the nose. Dense, large-scaled and packed with fruit and extract. The liqueur-like black raspberry, underbrush and licorice root flavors expand on the back half and go on and on on the aftertaste. Vinified entirely with whole clusters, this wine shows an almost painful intensity today and should really be forgotten for at least a decade. A great young example of this grand cru. Stephen Tanzer. WA 95 (6/2007): Intensely smoky, and with concentrated black cherry, herb, and brown spice aromas, the Dujac 2005 Clos St.-Denis comes onto the palate quite firm, palpably dense, its structural rectitude, fruit pit notes, stony mineral shadings, and abundant fine tannins all somewhat alleviated by ample glycerin and complemented by the sheer sappy juiciness of its ripe black fruits. This is positively fetal when compared with the Clos de la Roche, but exhibits no less remarkable sheer length. Certainly we’re looking at another wine with more than a decade’s developmental potential. |

| BH 92-94 (1/2010): In contrast to the funky nose of the Clos de la Roche, here the cool and elegant nose is quite pure with notes of warm earth, red current and blue pinot fruit that merge seamlessly into sappy, naturally sweet and concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess Outstanding length and the exact creates a velvety mouth feel. This is a very distinguished '08 as it has both style and class. Drink 2018+. |

| VM 94+ (3/2016): Full, dark red. Captivating rose petal lift to the aromas of red fruits, iron and minerals; less earthy and more ethereal than the Clos de la Roche. Also juicier and tighter in the mouth, showing less early sweetness but terrific acid spine and lift to the sappy flavors of raspberry and salty minerals. This wine has really put on weight since its bottling, noted Diane Snowden. But it still boasts terrific cut and inner-mouth tension. Lay this one down. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 91-93 (1/2009): A completely different nose that is much more overtly spicy with a beautifully layered nose that offers up notes of red, blue and black pinot fruit with rose petal and violet aromas as well as a hint of crushed leaf and forest floor, a nuance of which is picked up by the rich, full and intense flavors that possess better volume and length. Like the Charmes, this is really quite fine and perhaps a bit more mineral-driven than usual. Drink 2015+. VM 91-93 (4/2009): Bright medium red. Subdued aromas of redcurrant, cinnamon, pepper and sweet oak. Delicate and subtle in the mouth, but with sappy richness and very good verve. Finishes supple and long, with some oak tannins showing. |

WA 92-95 (5/2011): The 2009 Echezeaux (from one of the cooler sites in the vineyard) hovers on the palate in a weightless expression of grace and class. It is impeccably refined from start to finish, with delicate layers of white flowers and sweet spices that add complexity and nuance to the fruit. The wine’s gorgeous inner fragrance and impossibly fine tannins are first-rate. This is another dazzling wine from Dujac. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. BH 92-94 (1/2011): (from the climat Champs Traversin). An intensely floral, spicy, earthy and ripe nose offers up a densely fruited mix of black pinot fruit, black cherry and cassis aromas. The big-bodied flavors are exceptionally cool and fresh yet the tannins are fully mature as they support and shape the restrained, minerally and impressively persistent finish. Like the Malconsorts, this will require at least 15 years to arrive at its peak. Drink 2024+. VM 91-93 (2/2011): Good deep red-ruby color. Musky black cherry, black raspberry, chocolate and underbrush on the nose. Then higher-pitched on the palate than the nose would suggest, cool and filigree in style, with limited fat (this is the lowest in alcohol of the Dujac grand crus at 12.6%). Slight gamey complexity. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and a light touch. |

| BH 92 (1/2014): Here the fruit is more deeply pitched with excellent nuance to the well-layered blue and black pinot fruit that also evidences hints of violets, earth and wet stone. There is a clean and polished mouth feel (in the best sense) to the energetic and saline-infused flavors that are shaped by ripe tannins on the mouth coating, dusty and balanced finish. BH 91 (1/2016): (from a 1.16 ha parcel.) A discreet application of wood frames the fresh, cool and relatively airy aromas of high-toned cherry, pomegranate and ample floral scents. There is a sleek mouth feel to the utterly delicious and lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that retain a lovely sense of underlying tension and fine delineation on the balanced, long and solidly persistent if presently linear finish that my score assumes will flesh out with bottle age. Drink 2023+. VM 91 (3/2016): Saturated dark red. Blackberry and black licorice on the nose, plus a medicinal note. Very ripe and a bit warm, showing a solid structure but less pliancy than the last few samples. Substantial slightly tough tannins make this a bit ungiving today. Just a touch dry but long on the finish. WA 89-91 (12/2014): The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes (my sample taken from a new cask) has a fragrant, well-defined bouquet with pure raspberry preserve and crushed strawberry scents. There is palpable mineralite here. The palate has a firm grip on the entry, fine density with a straightlaced, lightly peppery finish that lingers nicely. I would have liked more depth toward the finish considering this is a Premier Cru, but let us see if this develops during the remainder of its barrel maturation. |

| BH 90 (1/2015): The reduction this displayed last year from barrel is still present even if there is less of it. There is good freshness and energy to the supple and well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins on the balanced finish where a trace of austerity is present. This possesses outstanding depth and length for its level and while the reduction is a concern my score assumes that it will ultimately dissipate with a few years of bottle age. Drink 2020+. BH 89-91 (1/2016): (from Porroux, Le Village, Clos Solon and Les Herbuottes.) A discreet application of wood serves as a neutral backdrop for the dark berry fruit and earth scents. The rich, suave and appealingly energetic middle weight flavors possess fine volume while delivering solid depth and length on the relatively robust and firm finale. Patience. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! VM 88-90 (1/2016): Musky aromas of black cherry, brown spices and smoky soil tones; more aromatic today than the Chambolle villages. Sweet and harmonious but also juicy and firmly built, showing more flavor definition than the Chambolle. Finishes with good spine and persistence. Stephen Tanzer. WA 85-87 (12/2015): The 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis Rouge Village has a straightforward bouquet with blackberry and boysenberry scents. The palate is well balanced with chalky tannin, a touch of cassis come through with a correct and linear, quite saline finish that lacks a little body. This is very...Morey, and that's a good thing. |

BH 88-91 (1/2023): Here too there is enough reduction to push the fruit to the background. Otherwise, there is a slightly more volume to the attractively textured medium weight flavors that possess both lovely delineation and purity, all wrapped in a lingering and mildly austere finale. This energetic effort could use better depth but that should reasonably develop in time. VM 90-92 (1/2023): The 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Village shows the stem addition slightly more conspicuously than the Chambolle-Village, white pepper and touches of bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, lightly peppered black fruit with notes of tobacco and dark chocolate towards the finish. This gains complexity in the glass. Promising - quintessential Dujac. Neal Martin. WA 89-91 (1/2023): Aromas of dark berries, spices, vine smoke, baking chocolate and pine resin introduce the 2021 Morey-Saint-Denis Village, a medium to full-bodied, supple and charming wine that's bright and perfumed, concluding with a rose-inflected finish. |

WA 90-92 (12/2016): The 2015 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru comes from four different lieux-dits from north to south of the appellation. It has an attractive bouquet with black cherries, bilberry and orange blossom; the oak neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, masculine in style with subtle tobacco notes infusing the slightly broody and yet fresh and tensile finish. It deserves a couple of years in bottle and should evolve into a very attractive Morey-Saint-Denis. BH 90-92 (1/2017): A ripe yet agreeably fresh nose features notes of plum, spice, earth and pretty floral nuances. There is both good richness and punch to the medium-bodied and fleshy flavors that tighten up significantly on the overtly powerful and entirely serious finish where a hint of bitter cherry arises. (Drink starting 2027). VM 89-92 (1/2017): Pungent spices and minerals on the nose, but with a more subdued fruit element than the village version. A step up in concentration and density in the mouth but quite backward in the early going and dominated by its structure. Finishes with firm-edged tannins and a strong spicy character. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 91 (1/2009): (from a 1.57 ha parcel) Here the nose is distinctly different from that of its Vosne stable mate because while this too is spicy, the mostly black fruit is more deeply pitched with much more pronounced floral nuances that lead to round, supple and nicely detailed flavors that have put on some weight since I last saw this in barrel though I still would not call it dense. WA 93-95 (12/2015): The 2014 Vosne-Romanee 1Er Cru Malconsorts is more opulent and generous on the nose compared to the Beaumonts with blueberry and black cherry fruit, more red plum and strawberry notes evolving with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a gentle grip in the mouth, the whole bunch fruit lending freshness and subtle sous-bois character on the finish. There is a little new wood to be subsumed on the finish, but it has great potential and represents one of the best Malconsorts you will find this year. VM 92-94 (1/2016): Deep, bright red. Soil-driven aromas of raspberry, blackberry, blood orange and iodiney minerality, with a complementary element of sexy oak. Juicy and intense but still youthfully imploded; totally different in grain and texture from the more pliant Beaux Monts. Finishes with terrific sappy energy and serious tannic spine. This will need a minimum of seven or eight years of cellaring. BH 92-94 (1/2016): ( from a 1.57 ha parcel.) The intensely floral-suffused nose is not quite as spicy as that of the Beaux Monts but it is arguably even more complex with its layered aromas of red and dark currant, sandalwood and lilac nuances. There is Outstanding power and punch to the beautifully delineated broad-shouldered flavors that possess a beguiling texture on the complex, balanced and driving mineral-inflected finale. This is terrific but plenty of patience will be required as I suspect that this will close down once it's bottled. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! |

| VM 86-88 (1/2019): The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a straightforward bouquet of brambly red fruit laced with light woodland aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin and nice balance, though I would like a little more weight and flamboyance on the finish. Neal Martin. |
