| BH 91-94 (6/2018): Background wisps of the exotic can be found on the white and yellow orchard fruit, mandarin orange and Granny Smith apple-scented nose. The mouth feel of the middle weight flavors though is cool and retained with a really lovely purity of expression on the highly complex, well-balanced and hugely long finish. This is terrific and a wine that will need at least a few years of cellaring first. (Drink starting 2024). |

| VM 91 (9/2018): Ripe stone fruits complemented by nutty nuances on the nose. Plush and fine-grained, with its stone fruit flavors currently overshadowed by nuts, earth and salty minerality. Rich and mouthfilling for young Corton-Charlemagne but I don't find quite the verve or grip shown by a barrel sample a year ago. Incidentally, the acidity here is 3.8 grams per liter, as with the Cailleret. Stephen Tanzer. |

| WA 93 (8/2018): Raveneau's 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux is excellent, offering up a youthfully reserved bouquet of apple, white peach, beeswax and dried flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with lovely texture, considerable mid-palate amplitude and a bright line of acidity, concluding with a firm, salty finish that balances its somewhat gourmand attack. Along with the Vaillons, the Butteaux stood out as one of the most complete of Raveneau's premiers crus this year, revealing more and more nuance over several days. Right now, it's quite closed, but I won't be surprised if it becomes quite musky and exotic after a few years in the cellar. |

| BH 93 (6/2018): ( 35+ year old vines planted in relatively deep soil interspersed with lots of gravel; aged in 33% new wood.) Restrained and cool aromas reflect notes of matchstick, citrus and a wide range of white-fleshed fruit. The succulent and very round flavors possess excellent mid-palate density while delivering excellent length on the sappy and refreshing finish. This mildly austere effort is sufficiently rich to allow for early accessibility yet the underlying structure is clearly present to allow for up to a decade of improvement. This is quality juice. Drink 2024+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |
