BH 96 (11/2023): Still good color with only minor bricking. An exuberantly spicy and floral suffused nose displays ample amounts of sous-bois, earth, underbrush and a whiff of sauvage character. There is first-rate density and power to the succulent, vibrant and seductive mineral-driven large-bodied flavors that deliver outstanding depth and persistence on the slightly grippy finish. Notwithstanding how well the bottle in this tasting showed, I would add that I have had noticeable bottle variation as some examples seem incredibly burly and tannic. As such, my scores that have merited scores ranging from 93 to 96. As an aside, I have at times wondered if there were multiple sources for the '85 Chambertin as this would potentially account for the bottle variation. (Drink starting 2023).
 
WA 96 (10/1992): This should prove to be one of the great successes of the vintage. The dark ruby/purple color is followed by an unevolved nose that smells like a barrel sample given its big, grapy, jammy black fruit character intertwined with aromas of prunes, damp earth, spices, and meat. In the mouth, there is superb concentration, medium body, integrated soft tannins, and a whoppingly long finish. I would opt for drinking this wine in about 3-4 years. It will keep for 20 or more.
