| BH 93 (4/2012): (From a .63 ha parcel). There is a hint of vegetal here that actually adds breadth to the sauvage, cool and wonderfully fresh and complex nose of red currants, earth and humus. The silky yet focused, intense and overtly austere big-bodied flavors possess an excellent sense of underlying tension on the still exceptionally tight finish that is supported by a very firm tannic spine. This is terrific as it has a strikingly sophisticated mouth feel and superb aging potential. Drink 2023+. |

| BH 94 (4/2018): This is more obviously 2015 in style than any of the preceding wines with its very ripe aromas of cassis, roasted plum, spice and plenty of earth nuances. The exceptionally rich and opulently concentrated big-bodied flavors possess a caressing mouth feel thanks to the equally good level of sappy dry extract, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, robust and rustic finale. This too is very much built-to-age and a wine that's going to need at least a decade before it will begin to drink reasonably well. In short, this is terrific but patience strongly advised. (Drink starting 2033). |

| BH 93 (4/2013): A fresh, pure and very cool nose offers up aromas of a variety of red berries, earth and a hint of the sauvage that is also reflected by the delicious, intense and broad-shouldered flavors. There is excellent volume but also plenty of underlying tension that imparts a real sense of verve to the long, balanced and highly complex finish. Despite the admirable size and weight this is a bit more refined than usual thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins. Lovely stuff and well worth considering. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

WA 94+ (10/2018): The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is immensely promising and will be well worth seeking out when the Gaunoux family finally decides to release it. Offering up a deep bouquet in which aromas of cherries, cassis and plums mingle with nuances of dark chocolate, licorice and cedar, it's a medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated wine with considerable amplitude and structure, underpinned by tangy acids. While the wine is already elegant and harmonious, its fine-grained but firm tannins are abundant: given the track record of Gaunoux's wines, I wouldn't expect this to show all its cards until its 20th birthday. BH 93 (4/2018): Here too there is a hint of wood to the more complex nose that displays an impressively broad array of spice, earth, underbrush and dark currant aromas laced with hints of the sauvage. There is outstanding richness to the powerful and velvet-textured big-bodied flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that relegates the firm tannins to the background on the mouth coating and gorgeous persistent finish. This is a burly and muscular effort that is not especially rustic though one that will require plenty of cellar time to reach its peak. (Drink starting 2030). |

| VM 90-92 (4/2001): Deep ruby. Superripe aromas of blackberry liqueur, raspberry and dark chocolate, along with some minty high tones; I was reminded of both ruby port and Languedoc syrah. Thick, huge and almost aggressively youthful; very powerful but is it pinot? Firm acids give shape to the flavors. Finishes quite powerful and long, with a late note of coffee. |

| VM 86-89 (3/2001): Bright, full red-ruby color. Aromas of currant, smoke, earth, nuts, mace, nutmeg, iron and tobacco. Sweet but fresh, with nicely integrated acidity. The dusty tannins mounted with aeration. Faiveley lease on this huge 9.9-hectare parcel will run out next year, and the vines will revert to owner Freddie Mugnier in 2003. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 94-97 (8/2001): The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Richebourg has a show-stopping, awesome nose of raspberries, strawberries, roses, red currants, candied cherries, and violets. It is a penetrating, feminine, elegant, and precise, medium to full-bodied wine. While being intensely refined and highly delineated, it sacrifices nothing in power and concentration. This exceptional offering possesses all the components for greatness. Its structure is formed by loads of super-ripe tannin, and its personality is dominated by hugely dense layers of fruit. Projected maturity: 2006-2017. BH 93 (4/2013): There is still relatively prominent wood framing the dense and wonderfully spicy black pinot fruit and ripe cherry-suffused nose. The big-bodied and solidly well-concentrated flavors display plenty of verve and power along with really lovely complexity on the velvety yet still quite firm finish that delivers Outstanding length. As impressive as this is, and it certainly is impressive, it's not really my style in that the wood is a bit too evident for my taste; that said, this is high-quality effort that is still on the way up and while it could certainly be enjoyed now with pleasure I would advise allowing it another 5 or so years of cellar time first. Try from 2017+ |

| BH 90 (6/2002): Quite ripe, even borderline jammy fruit with rounded, rich, nicely complex flavors and solid length. There is sufficient extract that this doesn't seem particularly tannic but underneath the baby fat is good structure and this should require 7 to 10 years to be at its best though it's quite seductive now. Really quite lovely. Try from 2009+. |

VM 94 (2/2019): Palish medium red with little or no amber at the rim. Wilder on the nose than the 2002, with aromas of raspberry, cedar and fresh blood complicated by leather and game nuances. Offers a superb combination of intensity and weight, with its fruit and saline mineral flavors energized by surprisingly fresh acidity and firming minerality. This densely packed midweight is still a bit youthfully imploded, finishing with a tannic firmness. Perhaps most impressive today for its slow-building, rising length, this soil-inflected wine does not narrow on the back half. (Drink between 2020-2039). Stephen Tanzer. BH 90 (3/2006): Beautifully detailed fruit that is quite feminine in character and remains very fresh and elegant while introducing rich, sappy and intense flavors displaying grand cru intensity, length and structure as well as a really lovely finishing minerality. There is solid if not terrific density here to go with a sweetness that comes from the thick pinot extract. I quite like this and while it presently lacks that "wow" factor, the balance is impeccable and it should gracefully age for a number of years to come; note that I have extended slightly my initial suggested drinking window. (Drink starting 2009). |

| VM 93+ (2/2018): Dark red color; looks like a young wine. Expressive if slightly medicinal aromas of dark berries, purple flowers, spices and crushed-stone minerality. Dense and rather powerful if a bit unrefined, with very rich flavors of redcurrant, tobacco, spices and wild herbs conveying a strong impression of extract (perhaps a bit too much saignee here?). A bit less brisk in the mouth than it is on the nose, but with no shortage of acidity. Finishes with a serious dusting of tannins and strong saline persistence. (The tannins in today's Clos de Tart are finer.) This wine may be passing through an awkward stage of its evolution in bottle. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 93 (8/2008): This has begun to shut down somewhat, particularly on the nose even with extended airing. However the mid-palate is intensely sappy and concentrated with gorgeously detailed flavors that offer knock out intensity, building slowly from the attack all the way to the explosive finish and lingers for minutes. As impressive as the wine is however, the structure has begun to assert itself and thus this will need another 6 to 10 or be at its best. Tasted twice recently with similar results. Try from 2014+. |

BH 94 (12/2012): The heavy wood spice that dominated the concentrated black fruit from cask has now largely, if not completely, been absorbed and leads to round, sexy, seductive, earthy, nicely rich and detailed flavors of excellent intensity and fine length. This is still relatively primary though the depth is slowly emerging and while it will undoubtedly be a long term cellar candidate, it should be close to its majority in another 7 to 10 years. Note that I have upgraded my view of this wine considerably as I was not at all sure that it could successfully integrate this much wood but indeed it has. Tasted several times recently with consistent results. Try from 2016+. VM 90 (4/2002): Good full red. Aromatic nose combines redcurrant, iron and minerals. The sweetest and most expansive of the trio of 1999s I sampled, with firm acids giving shape to the flavors. Here the broad tannins hit the palate rather late, and there plenty of stuffing to support them. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 91+ (4/2002): Deep red-ruby color. Aromas of raspberry, bitter chocolate and coffee. Sweet, lush and concentrated, with a compelling balance of sucrosity and bright acidity. Really packed with fruit. A long, serious premier cru with terrific thrust. WA 91 (5/2009): Pale ruby-brick colour. Fragrant nose of dark cherries, forest floor and truffles. The medium level tannins are wonderfully silky and complimented by the delicate fruit and medium to high acidity. Long finish with a faint minerally character. Drink now BH 90 (3/2004): This is a clear notch up in quality with explosive black cherry fruits and a very intense inner core of sappy, dense and marvelously long pinot essence. Quintessential Chambolle with its finesse and delicacy but this is most assuredly not light and it finishes quite firmly and with solid minerality. Drink from 2007+. |

VM 97 (3/2018): (tasted from a 375-milliter bottle): Very bright red with ruby tones; looks like a young wine. Deep, dark red and black fruit aromas are complicated by cinnamon, black pepper, roast coffee and a hint of truffley underbrush. Wonderfully rich but classy and reserved, and not a bit heavy. Utterly silky, plush, energetic wine with a relaxed quality to its lively dark fruit and dark chocolate flavors. Finishes classically dry, with beautifully buffered tannins and captivating building sweetness. Amazingly, this 375-milliliter bottle seems still short of its peak, so I would imagine that well-stored 750s still need time. I'd guess 2022-2042 for 750s. Stephen Tanzer. BH 94 (1/2002): In contrast to the general style of the vintage, this is aromatically austere though with coaxing, reveals wonderfully complex aromas of a simply incredible array of black fruits, earth, spice, crushed herbs and notes of chocolate with flavors that are huge but fine, powerful but subtle and rich yet detailed with a stupendously long finish that offers intense minerality. This is genuinely stunning juice and not to be missed. Drink 2010-2025. |

WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
