| BH 86-88 (1/2011): A fruity and very fresh nose of red berry fruit and earth nuances that carry over to the detailed, pure and vibrant middle weight flavors that possess notably better depth than is usually found at this level plus a lingering and firm finish. Lovely. (Drink starting 2013) |

VM 88 (1/2017): (bottled in mid-August; vinified with 80% whole clusters): Lovely spicy Pinot aromas and flavors of raspberry, minerals, flowers and dark chocolate. A very fresh, juicy Bourgogne Rouge with terrific gulpability. Stephen Tanzer. BH 88 (1/2017): (from 60+ year old vines based on the original pinot fin strain that is so highly regarded today.) A cool, pretty and pure nose reflects notes of various red berries, floral and a hint of earth. There is terrific energy and fine detail to the utterly delicious flavors that possess outstanding depth and length for a regional wine. Recommended. Drink 2018+. Outstanding Top Value! |

WA 89 (6/2010): Smoky Latakia tobacco and bittersweet herbs accent the bright, fresh red berry fruit of Lachaux’s 2008 Chambolle-Musigny, with the decadent side of this appellation revealing itself in suggestions of forest floor, well-hung game, and faded lily inner-mouth perfume. Refined tannins underlie a finish tinged with smoke, fruit pit bitterness, and considerable intrigue for a village-level wine. I would expect this to provide admirable satisfaction for at least a half dozen years. BH 87-89 (1/2010): Very mild reduction cannot suppress the otherwise lightly spiced high-toned and cool red pinot fruit that gives way to supple but precise flavors that possess ample verve and a touch of minerality on the dusty, long and linear finish. I very much like the mouth feel here and this has the potential to be a very good villages. Drink 2014+. VM 87 (3/2011): Good medium red. Pure aromas of blackberry and blueberry lifted by mint and menthol. Juicy and supple, with moderate intensity and ripe, harmonious acidity. Nicely balanced wine with a savory finish featuring slightly dry tannins. Pascal Lachaux believes that 2009 will be a "mid-term vintage," while the 2008s "will be good early and late" and may never shut down. |

BH 92-94 (1/2014): (from vines next to the wall by Grands Echezeaux; 40% whole cluster) Relatively heavy reduction renders the nose unreadable. There is excellent richness, size, weight and power to the medium weight plus flavors that brim with mouth coating dry extract that buffers well the firm tannic spine on the strikingly long finish. This is austere but not really rustic and should amply reward mid to long-term cellaring. Drink 2027+. VM 91-93 (1/2014): (50% vendange entier): Bright medium red. Candied red cherry and redcurrant aromas are accented by pepper and fresh herbs. Juicy, spicy and bright, showing lovely cut and energy to the red fruit and mineral flavors. The youthfully firm tannins are a bit tough today but the finish displays attractive floral lift. |

BH 94 (1/2014): (from a .53 ha parcel). An exquisitely fresh and pure nose of cool red currant and mineral reduction slides gracefully into detailed, precise and restrained medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent verve and a taut muscularity. This really brims with minerality on the mouth coating finish that delivers super length. Terrific. Drink 2023+. VM 91-94 (2/2013): Good deep red-ruby. Cool aromas and flavors of raspberry, red cherry and crushed rock lifted by pepper and herbs. Pure, juicy and precise if a bit youthfully imploded, but already showing terrific sappy intensity. Finishes very long and perfumed, with a serious tannic spine. Promises to be Lachaux's best vintage yet for this cuvee, which he initiated with the 2008 after purchasing these old vines from Christopher Newman. |

| BH 92-95 (1/2020): This too is very floral in character with its cool essence of red cherry with hints of the sauvage and earth lurking in the background. The super-sleek and lacy middle weight flavors appear to be built on a base of pungent minerality before terminating in a firm, serious and youthfully austere finale. This is a classic Latricières that will require extended patience if you wish to enjoy it at its peak. Drink 2033+. |

VM 90-92 (1/2014): Bright, dark red. Vibrant aromas of red fruits and minerals, lifted by a piquant whiff of blood orange. Juicy, spicy and sharply delineated, with the blood orange note repeating on the palate. Finishes brisk and long, with firm tannins. I like this pristine, fruit-driven style. Stephen Tanzer. BH 89-91 (1/2014): Reduction renders the nose difficult to read but there is good freshness and verve to the rich, round and attractively textured middle weight flavors. There is good volume and plenty of tannin-buffering sap and while there is a hint of backend rusticity the overall impression is that this is finer than usual. Worth your attention. (Drink starting 2019). |

BH 96 (1/2013): (from a .375 ha parcel situated by La Grande Rue.) A notably floral character adds breadth to the highly spiced and exceptionally fresh nose of cool red currant and plum. The rich, refined and admirably pure middle weight flavors are supported and shaped by ultra-fine tannins that coat the mouth on the incredibly long finish. Despite the underlying tension, this is essentially a wine of finesse and harmony that should also age for a very long time if desired. Brilliant and remarkably complex. Drink 2025+. VM 93-96 (2/2012): Deep, bright red. Lively aromas of raspberry, cherry, minerals, spices and game. Utterly silky on entry, then spreads out to saturate the entire palate with red fruits and spices. A step up in breadth and perfume from the Suchots, delivering an impression of weightlessness and impressive finesse. This round and sexy RSV is remarkably showy already, and finishes with captivating aromatic persistence. |

BH 88-91 (1/2014): This is more deeply pitched as it combines plenty of Vosne spice and floral notes with plum and dark currant scents. The energetic middle weight flavors possess a beguiling texture as the supporting tannins are well-integrated and notably ripe plus the dusty and mouth coating finish is well-balanced and solidly persistent. Drink 2018+. VM 87-89 (1/2014): (just racked and sulfured): Good deep red. Spices and flowers on the nose. Spicy on entry, then juicy and reticent in the middle, with cool element of menthol suggesting moderate ripeness. Still a bit closed but finishes with good length and tannic grip. |

BH 90-93 (1/2013): A highly spiced nose of both red and black pinot fruit is trimmed in hints of earth and sandalwood. The very generous and impressively rich medium weight flavors are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a beguilingly seductive texture to the lush, balanced and persistent finish. This is first rate as Chaumes rarely possesses this level of potential quality. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! VM 90-93 (2/2013): (racked and sulfited): Good bright, dark red. Raspberry, spices, flowers and licorice on the scented nose. Dense, sweet and creamy, with a dominant flavor of sappy maraschino cherry. Finishes impressively long and palate-saturating, with ripe tannins and good medicinal reserve. Lachaux noted that this cuvee used to be harder, but is very supple in both 2011 and 2010. Excellent potential. |

| BH 94 (1/2021): ( from a .45 ha parcel situated at the very top of the vineyard; Les Grands Suchots is the name for the upper portion of the vineyard and was in use by a few domaines up through the 1970s.) A distinctly floral nose offers up a beguiling blend of very ripe red and dark pinot fruit, sandalwood, Asian-style tea and plenty of spice whiffs. There is a highly refined mouthfeel to the rich, suave and super-seductive medium-bodied flavors that tighten up quickly on the balanced and impressively persistent finale. This youthfully austere effort is very Suchots in character and an excellent example that should age gracefully for the next 15+ years. Drink 2033+. Outstanding! |

VM 93 (4/2007): Dark red. Deep blackberry and candied plum aromas give an impression of perfect ripeness. Silky-smooth on the palate, with strikingly pure and vibrant flavors of sweet blackberry and cassis. Gains ripeness on the finish, which features seemingly invisible tannins and Outstanding length. Here's another '02 that's utterly delicious now but will be even better for more cellaring. BH 90-93 (1/2004): Backward, reserved and very earthy aromas give way to big, rich, very concentrated and dense flavors that display the classic young Clos de Vougeot characteristic of austerity. This is a powerful but not heavy wine with plenty of firm but ripe structure and plenty of buffering mid-palate sap. This should age for 20 years, perhaps longer. |

| VM 92-94 (4/2004): (from a parcel very close to Richebourg, according to Laurent) Ruby-red. Noble aromas of blackberry, black raspberry, cocoa powder and blood orange. Juicy, intensely flavored and penetrating; not especially fleshy or sweet but shapely and powerful, with strong underlying minerality. Faint leathery note of reduction. Finishes subtle, firm and very long. |

WA 89 (7/2015): Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2002 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots was a little smudged and reductive on the nose, developing savoury and dried meat notes with time. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin on the entry, good weight but missing the tension and precision that subsequent vintage will bring. Tasted June 2015. BH 92 (1/2005): Curiously, the nose is quite ripe but slightly austere with an airy, pure and superbly elegant breadth of aromas that leads to punchy flavors are full-bodied, rich and delicious with more prominent acidity and a powerful, indeed even explosive finish. The structure is buried and completely buffered by all of the sappy extract and there is an appealing minerality on the extremely persistent finish. This is very classy juice that presently displays a subtle hint of finishing wood. |

WA 91-92 (6/2004): Violets and black cherries are found in the nose of the lush, soft 2002 Morey-St.-Denis Les Ruchots. This sensual, medium-bodied wine offers sexy layers of sweet red cherries. It is pure, seductive, and sports a long, opulent, fruit-packed finish. VM 89-92 (3/2004): Good full ruby. Complex nose combines blackberry, leather, pepper, mint and bitter chocolate. Juicy, bright and gripping, with sharply delineated blackberry and floral flavors. Fine, horizontal tannins spread out to coat the entire palate. The note of bitter chocolate carries through to the finish. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 93 (1/2005): ( from a .7 ha parcel in Mazis-Bas of 70 year old vines) The aromatic profile is completely different as there is an intense animale quality with intense red and black fruits, earth, underbrush and truffle notes plus a hint of reduction that introduces robust yet detailed flavors that are rich, extremely long and this finishes with a touch of toast. What I really like here though is the sophistication of the tannins as they are quite fine and completely buffered by the buckets of mid-palate sap. A marvelous effort of imposing potential that possesses so much extract that it could be approached now yet it would be a clear case of infanticide as everything required is here for a long life. Drink 2012+. WA 93 (4/2014): This 2002 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru tasted wonderful back in 2008 and it continues to drink beautifully. It has superb delineation on the nose with vibrant red berry fruit, briary and cold stones – the mineralite heightened with time. The palate is poised, leafy and fresh, an elegant and rather understated Pinot Noir that is full of personality and charm. Lovely. |

| BH 89-92 (4/2004): Oddly, this is bigger, more serious and more powerful than the Champans with a broad aromatic spectrum of red and black fruits and obvious mineral notes merging seamlessly into dusty, precise and ultra pure middle weight flavors and a much firmer and more persistent backend. There is simply more material here with a buried yet noticeable tannic spine. A terrific wine of impressive balance. |

BH 90 (1/2005): ( from 50 year old vines - this is Mugnier's favorite vineyard in terms of its fruit quality). There is more of everything here with much deeper and more expressive aromas of black cherry fruit nuanced by really impressive complexity and depth followed by richer, sweeter, sappier flavors that offer excellent length. A very fine effort with solid balance and one that should age extremely well. Drink 2010+. Outstanding! VM 90 (4/2005): Palish color. Aromas of raspberry, smoke, brown spices and menthol. Silky for the vintage, and deeper than the village wine, with strawberry syrup and brown spice flavors supported by underlying stoniness. Clearly longer on the aftertaste. WA 89-91 (6/2004): Powerful floral elements perfume the red berry aromas of the 2002 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuees. Sensual, medium-bodied, and silky-textured, it gracefully dances across the palate releasing elegant red fruit flavors. This feminine wine would a delight to drink right from the barrel. Projected maturity: now-2012. |

| BH 93 (1/2005): (the aggregate size of this holding is a whopping 3.4 ha.) There is even more aromatic complexity with similar and brilliant red and black fruit notes though not the spice with superbly sappy, concentrated and very pure flavors that display flat out incredible length and impeccable balance. This will join the ranks of some of the best vintages of Ponsot's Clos de la Roche, which is saying something. It is however built for the very patient. Drink 2017+. |

VM 89-91 (4/2004): Medium red. Expressive aromas of strawberry, raspberry and rose petal. Highly perfumed flavors of tangy red berries and flowers. Round, seamless, rather soft Charmes that gives an impression of high pH. (In fact, the volatile acidity here is the highest of these 2002s.) This needs bottling soon. BH 88-91 (1/2004): Some reduction makes it difficult to accurately read the nose though the big, robust and nicely intense flavors are rich, forward and generous, all wrapped in slightly edgy tannins and complemented by a long, delicious, warm finish. Fine if not sensational quality in a very forward style. Drink 2006-2012. |

WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
