VM 92 (3/2010): Good medium red. Subtly complex nose offers cherry, raspberry and minerals. Delivers the sweet fruit of 2007 in spades, with a slightly high-toned quality that adds to its sex appeal (all these 2007s have volatile acidity levels around 0.6, according to Liger-Belair, which helps to explain their expressiveness.) Fat and sexy wine, with a complicating saline nuance. Finishes with sweet tannins and superb length. Stephen Tanzer.
BH 91 (1/2010): ( from a .6 ha parcel situated two-thirds in Cruots and the rest in Champs Traversin.) A complex and layered nose of crushed herbs, floral and red berry fruit aromas leads to sappy, dense and powerful flavors that display both power and precision on the muscled, focused and driving finish. This is completely different from the Reignots and does not have the same delicacy or refinement though I would still characterize this as an Echezeaux of finesse. Drink 2017+. |

| BH 94 (1/2015): (from a .6 ha parcel situated two-thirds in Cruots and the rest in Champs Traversin.) Interestingly this is the spiciest wine in the range outside of the La Romanee that combines with a really lovely panoply of red and blue fruit and floral scents. There is excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the fleshy and generous medium-bodied flavors that possess controlled power on the beautifully complex, balanced and long finish that is a bit less austere than that of the Reignots. This is also excellent and should drink well both young and fully mature. Drink 2027+. |

| BH 94 (1/2016): ( from a .6 ha parcel situated two-thirds in Cruots and the rest in Champs Traversin.) This is also strikingly spicy with exotic tea, anise, clove, cinnamon and dried orange peel nuances adding considerable interest to the black cherry, cassis and violet-suffused nose. There is seriously good richness and volume to the concentrated and marvelously seductive flavors thanks to an abundance of dry extract that really coats the palate and buffers the firm tannic spine on the energetic and beautifully well-detailed finale. I very much like the sense of harmony here as well and this should drink well both young and when fully mature. Drink 2028+. |

WA 89 (7/2015): Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2002 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots was a little smudged and reductive on the nose, developing savoury and dried meat notes with time. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin on the entry, good weight but missing the tension and precision that subsequent vintage will bring. Tasted June 2015.
BH 92 (1/2005): Curiously, the nose is quite ripe but slightly austere with an airy, pure and superbly elegant breadth of aromas that leads to punchy flavors are full-bodied, rich and delicious with more prominent acidity and a powerful, indeed even explosive finish. The structure is buried and completely buffered by all of the sappy extract and there is an appealing minerality on the extremely persistent finish. This is very classy juice that presently displays a subtle hint of finishing wood. |

BH 94 (1/2008): (The Liger-Belair vines in this small vineyard run from top to bottom whereas the others are situated in segments; Cathiard is on top, Grivot in the middle and Arnoux at the bottom). Much airier and more elegant floral notes of rose petal and violet aromas plus sweet blue and black pinot fruit notes that can also be found on the mineral-suffused flavors that are precise, linear, focused and cool on the chiseled and beautifully long finish. I very much like this and while it's less generous than the Chaumes, it's classier and absolutely crystalline in its purity. A stunner. Drink 2017+. Outstanding!
VM 94+ (4/2008): Good deep red-ruby. Sappy plum and redcurrant aromas complicated by tobacco and minerals. A step up in sweetness, concentration and floral lift from the Chaumes, this one boasts palate-staining redcurrant, leather and mineral flavors and a powerful impression of extract, not to mention a compelling sappiness for the vintage. Finishes dry and classic, with superb punch. "These vines always produce very small bunches," notes Liger-Belair. A decade of aging may bring an even higher score.
WA 91 (4/2007): From vines (some 80 years old) just above their monopole La Romanee, the Liger Belairs’ 2005 Vosne-Romanee Les Reignots displays vintage-typical notes of black raspberry and blackberry, exotic spices, mocha, vanilla, and a decidedly strong gamey character for a wine so young (but which Liger-Belair seeks to assure me is a passing reductive phase). Savory soy and salty, stony mineral notes add to the undeniably complex impression made by this bright, elegant, texturally spare Pinot, and there are fascinating lingering notes of floral perfume, new wood, forest floor and passing woodland creatures. When best to drink this and where it is headed, I cannot guess. But in the interest of full disclosure I should note that some of my more illustrious colleagues gave this very high marks, at least before bottling. |

WA 96 (4/2012): The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Reignots explodes onto the palate with dazzling richness and power. Black fruit tar, licorice and smoke are just some of the many aromas and flavors that stain the palate as this dark, brooding Burgundy shows off its pedigree. Layers of fruit build effortlessly to the huge, intense finish. Underlying veins of salinity give the wine its sense of proportion. In 2009 the Reignots is superb Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.
BH 94 (1/2012): (the Liger-Belair vines in this small vineyard run from top to bottom whereas the others are situated in segments; Cathiard is on top, Grivot in the middle and Arnoux at the bottom.) This is not quite as floral as the Brûlees though it is perhaps even a bit fresher with a highly spiced nose that is very Vosne in character. The supple, round and beautifully well-delineated middle weight flavors seem to exude both a liquid minerality and plenty of dry extract that buffers the firm but sophisticated tannins on the tension-infused, focused and highly complex finish. This should be terrific and I really like the impeccable balance of this long and powerful yet strikingly refined effort. Drink 2024+. Outstanding!
VM 93 (4/2012): Deep red. Strawberry and mocha aromas display hints of surmaturite. Creamy-sweet but firmly structured, with an almost candied quality to the red fruit and chocolate flavors and big, tongue-coating tannins. Outsized for this bottling but manages to maintain its balance. |

| BH 95 (1/2017): (the Liger-Belair vines are the only ones that run from top to bottom.) A highly perfumed, airy and cool nose exhibits an elegant blend of relatively high-toned red and dark cherry fruit, lilac, orange peel, anise and sandalwood scents. This, along with the La Romanee, is the most refined wine in the range thanks to the super-fine but dense tannins that shape the lively, intense and mineral-driven middle weight flavors as well as the impeccably well-balanced, lengthy and youthfully austere finish. This restrained beauty will require at least 8 years of bottle age first. In a word, brilliant. Drink 2026+. Outstanding! |

A restrained, indeed almost mute nose only grudgingly offers up notes of various red berries along with hints of plum, lilac and spice. There is a beguiling mouth feel to the generous yet sleek middle weight flavors that are again shaped by refined tannins before culminating in a youthfully austere finish that is firm, balanced and solidly persistent. This is a first-rate Vosne villages and is also worth considering. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! |

BH 93 (1/2010): A very high-toned, airy and layered nose of red berry fruit and distinct floral notes, particularly dried red and white rose petal with a touch of lavender, slides gracefully into pure, intense, rich, full and focused middle weight flavors that possess excellent power and punch with ample minerality on the wonderfully long and moderately austere finish. This is an Outstanding effort in the context of the vintage. Drink 2019+.
VM 91-94 (4/2009): Bright, deep red. Aromas of raspberry liqueur, blueberry, menthol and musky herbs. Rich, chewy and dry; comes across as quite austere after the last couple of grand crus. But then Jeremy Seysses finds this quality to be reassuring in the context of 2007. "I'm drawn to austerity in this vintage," he told me, adding that he plans to lay down magnums of this wine in his personal cellar, along with the Clos de la Roche and Echezeaux. Finishes with dusty tannins and excellent thrust. |

BH 90 (1/2010): A subtly spiced and exuberantly fruity red berry suffused nose displays notes of soy, anise and clove that slide gracefully into fresh, balanced, minerally and precise barely middle weight flavors that are utterly delicious and solidly complex but despite all the elegance and purity of expression, it comes across as just a bit light with touches of herbal and austerity on the finish. This is a wine of discretion and would be easy to overlook blind. Drink 2015+.
VM 89-91 (4/2009): Medium red with a pale rim. Dark berries, violet and minerals on the nose and in the mouth. Nicely creamy in the middle, with a silky texture, but quite understated today. This rather reserved wine finishes with tangy red berries and a spicy, peppery tang. Vinified mostly with whole clusters. I suspect this is better than it's showing today. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2009): Here the nose expresses a completely different personality compared to the Brûlees as this is cooler, more discreet and more reserved though there is a similar breadth of spice elements present that clearly identify the wine as a fine Vosne. The linear, direct and more obviously mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors are strikingly energetic and also stain the palate on the lingering finish. Like the straight Vosne villages, this is Cistercian in its restraint at present and wonderfully classy. Drink 2015+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

| BH 92-94 (4/2009): An intensely spicy red berry fruit nose is expressive to the point of exuberance while introducing the hugely rich, full, intense and broad-shouldered flavors that possess real energy and drive on the sappy, mouth coating and stunningly long full-bodied flavors that display Outstanding depth. There is a serious amount of dry extract that makes this appear less structured than it is in reality. A most impressive effort that is less mineral-driven but a bit tighter than the Chambertin, at least at this early stage. Drink 2017+. |

JM 96 (5/2024): The domaine is blessed with a heritage of ancient vines, in part because Lalou Bize-Leroy never grubs up and replants All the wines are aged in François Frères barrels which have been air dried for three years. They are neither fined nor filtered – “sediment is the jewel in the bottle”. Not the densest but a fine even gentle red across the glass. Some smoky notes from the stems. Then a super svelte glowing mouthful of alpine and gariguette strawberries, and fresh white pepper, light acidity but adequate, just a few tannins, impeccable length. The smokiness and peppery aspect did not diminish with time. Drink from 2022-2037.
BH 96 (6/2009): A deep, brooding and almost taciturn nose of ripe black berry fruit, intense violet notes and spice hints and warm earth gives way to sweet, rich and exceptionally fresh big-bodied flavors that are textured and completely saturate the palate with buckets of dry extract while at the same time buffering the ripe but very firm tannins, all wrapped in a stunningly long finish that has some of the best overall complexity of the entire range. This too will need ample patience but should more than reward the wait. A knock-out. Drink 2022+.
WA 94 (6/2010): Its forward, succulent sweetness of red raspberry and purple plum fruit accompanied by blond tobacco and smoked meat set Leroy’s 2007 Richebourg apart from its Romanee-St.-Vivant sibling, whose utterly contrasting personality may convey more alluring mystery and complexity, but cannot compete with the sheer sappy concentration and particular energy and exuberance on display. There is a meaty savor, smoky tang, and brightness of berry fruit that truly stains the palate. I expect this is another Leroy wine that will defy its vintage by retaining stamina for two or more decades, and in the process will almost certainly reveal further facets. |

Wonderfully deep, tangy and sweet, with a captivating creamy texture making this deceptively tastable today. Impressive today for its volume, and finishes very long, broad and classically dry, with substantial fine-grained tannins. As delicious as this is right now, its overall balance suggests it will reward a decade of aging. For his part, Mugnier says that virtually every vintage of his Musigny needs ten years in the bottle. WA 90 (6/2010): Mugnier’s 2007 Nuits-St.-Georges Clos de la Marechale elicits aromatic allusions to ripe black raspberry, cedar, cardamom, burley tobacco, nut oils, and game, delivering a similar sense of complexity on a relatively rich if conspicuously tannin-girded palate. The sheer sap and finishing grip in evidence here suggest that one might want to follow the wine for 4-6 years in anticipation that the tannins will refine themselves.
VM 90 (4/2010): Good deep red. Blueberry, licorice, brown spices and menthol on the complex nose. Richer and broader than the village wine, with more intense and complex flavors of spicy black and red berries, leather and minerals. Finishes dense, broad and spicy, with substantial fine tannins. An excellent Nuits-Saint-George wine.
BH 89 (6/2010): An expressive nose of green apple, white flower and lemon zest aromas trimmed in a deft touch of wood merges into rich, clean and beautifully detailed middle weight flavors that possess a fine sense of underlying tension and punch on the layered and very dry finish that lingers nicely. Lovely and balanced. Drink: 2012+ |

| BH 92 (3/2019): Fresh and still youthful aromas are composed by notes of cool essence of red berries, earth, spice and a whiff of wood character. The round, supple and relatively forward middle weight flavors evidence plenty of minerality on the focused and sneaky long finish that tightens up noticeably as it sits on the palate. This well-made and utterly delicious effort isn't seductive but I like the delivery and balance and while it could certainly be enjoyed now, I would continue to hold it for up to another decade. Try from 2025+. |
