| VM 95-97 (12/2020): The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is quite closed on the nose, offering discreet blackberry, raspberry and light violet aromas that you might mistake for a Vosne-Romanée. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins. This is a juicy Clos de Vougeot, a little savory and quite peppery on the finish, which you might misconstrue as a result of some stem addition. Sculpted with Jean-Nicolas Méo's finest chisel, this is a wonderful Clos de Vougeot. Neal Martin. |

BH 90-93 (1/2008): (from a .45 ha parcel of 70-year-old vines). A very ripe, pure and expressive nose of spicy red and black fruit aromas nuanced by hints of game, smoke, tea, leather and lovely violet notes framed in moderate wood combines with sappy, dense and naturally sweet full-bodied flavors that possess a really seductively suave texture and a supple but precise finish that is both profound and hugely long. This is a knockout where the only nit is a trace of finishing warmth but otherwise, I was extremely impressed as this is stylish and utterly classy. Drink 2014+. Don't miss! WA 90 (12/2009): Fascinatingly sweetly smoky and mineral suggestions of machine oil, metal shavings, and crushed stone mingle with ripe black raspberry and chocolate in the nose of Meo's 2006 Corton Clos Rognet. Like its Clos Vougeot sibling, this is rather massive at least in its youth and its tannins are quite evident, probably all the more so due to the wine's extreme sense of softness (from high pH) and faintly noticeable alcohol. But sheer richness and sweetness render this impressive in its way, and time in bottle may make for refinement and nuance. I would not plan to revisit this before 2011 and anticipate at least a decade's total useful life. |

VM 93+ (4/2013): Good deep medium red. Musky red cherry, smoky minerality and a medicinal nuance on the nose. Sweet, large-scaled and concentrated but without quite the class of the Boudots or Clos Vougeot. Powerful, medicinal and very backward, finishing with youthfully tough tannins and palate-staining salty and crushed stone flavors. Great potential here but I would not want to drink a bottle anytime soon. BH 92-95 (1/2012): This is slightly riper and decidedly more complex than either of its two Corton stable mates with a broad ranging nose of plum and dark berry fruit that is liberally laced with sauvage and earth notes. This is a big wine with rich and very concentrated large-bodied flavors where the supporting tannins are buried beneath an impressive reserve of dry extract, all wrapped in a long, deep and powerful finish. Along with the Echezeaux, this may be the most overlooked wine in the Meo portfolio which I find quite curious given how consistently it delivers. Drink: 2025+ WA 92-94 (2/2012): The 2010 Corton Clos Rognet is a bit richer, rounder and sweeter than the Perrieres. It fleshes out nicely in the glass with sweet dark red cherries, flowers, minerals and spices. This is a relatively delicate, feminine Rognets. The fruit gains considerable volume through the finish without ever losing its underlying minerality. This is first-class juice all the way. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. |

| BH 91-93 (1/2012): Here the nose is slightly riper and a bit spicier as well on the purple fruit nose where the nuances are stifled somewhat by the presence of noticeable if not dominant reduction. There is a seductive velvety texture to the exceptionally rich and full-bodied flavors that possess more volume but not the same minerality on the balanced, persistent and palate coating finish. A qualitative choice though the intrinsic character of these two wines is quite different. (Drink starting 2022). |

| VM 92+ (3/2013): Good medium red. Sexy aromas of sappy cherry, orange peel and minerals. At once creamy and energetic, with intriguing spice and saline nuances to the black cherry flavor. The tactile finish offers terrific length and cut. Built to age. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 91-93 (1/2014): Here the wood is more discreet if not invisible as it sets off the earthy and quite somber mix of red and dark currant, spice and distinctly sauvage nuances. There is good energy and precision to the focused, intense and overtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a saline, moderately austere and impressively persistent finish. (Drink starting 2024). VM 91-93 (1/2014): Medium red. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of red berries, flowers, earth and mint. Sweet, fine-grained and delicate, with a touch of herbs to the raspberry flavor. Not at all a fleshy style but prettier than usual for this wine, which tends to be severe in the early going. Finishes with very good length and cut. Stepehn Tanzer. |

BH 91-94 (1/2016): This is markedly more floral on the equally cool and airy red and dark currant scents that are also laced with discreet spice and earth nuances. There is excellent intensity and power to the broad-shouldered flavors that deliver even more minerality on the impressively complex and persistent finish that is a bit less youthfully austere than it typically is. Patience will be required. (Drink starting 2029). VM 91-93 (1/2016): Bright red with ruby tones. Distinctly wilder on the nose than the Vigne au Saint, offering scents of cherry, raspberry and animal fur. At once juicier and deeper, displaying terrific flavor intensity and inner-mouth perfume but kept tight by sound underlying minerality. Méo finds this wine less strict than usual but it will still need at least four or five years of aging upon release. Stephen Tanzer. WA 91-93 (12/2015): The 2014 Corton les Perrières Grand Cru has a very pure red cherry and fresh strawberry-scented bouquet with superb delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, quite grippy in the mouth and with more density than the 2014 Corton la Vigne Au Saint. The fruit turns toward dark red/black at the finish that has fine salinity. It does not quite match the Corton Clos Rognet, yet it is still a grand cru in the true sense of the word. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2019): An overtly floral and spice-infused nose reflects notes of various dark berries and earth. Once again there is a highly attractive texture to the medium-bodied flavors that don't yet possess the same complexity though there is even better persistence to the somewhat more structured finale. My sense is that this will add more depth with age and will eventually surpass the Murgers. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2020): A deft application of wood sets off fresh and surprisingly elegant aromas that include the essence of red cherry, earth and a whiff of newly turned earth. The supple and rounded medium-bodied flavors are not especially dense but I like the vibrancy and texture while the impressively long bitter cherry pit-tinged finish tightens up substantially. Very good quality here as well. |

BH 94-97 (1/2011): (from a .37 ha parcel in Les Veroilles of 40+ year old vines save for a very tiny parcel in Richebourg proper). This is ripe yet even more restrained, indeed to the point of reticence though aggressive swirling liberates the blackberry and cassis-infused nose that also possesses a huge array of spice and mineral nuances. The big-bodied, concentrated, intense and superbly powerful flavors are underpinned by very firm tannins that are rugged and robust though not rustic, all wrapped in a youthfully austere finish with plenty of underlying tension as you can really sense the energy here. This should be fantastic in time though note that plenty of time will definitely be required. Drink 2029+. Don't miss! WA 91-94 (5/2011): The 2009 Richebourg is a rather subtle wine for this site. It shows good intensity in its dark red fruit, minerals and flowers. The finish is exceptionally long and elegant, which hints at the wine’s promise. Today the Richebourg is holding back much of its potential, but it looks to be a relatively feminine Burgundy from this vineyard. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034. VM 91-94 (5/2011): The 2009 Richebourg is a rather subtle wine for this site. It shows good intensity in its dark red fruit, minerals and flowers. VM 96 (4/2013): Bright full, medium red. A real wake-up call on the nose, offering sappy black and red cherry fruit aromas complicated by crushed-rock minerality and notes of rose petal and violet; an essence of Burgundy. Then generous and dense but weightless on the palate, and less austere today than the Clos Vougeot and Corton Clos Rognets, showing salty, chewy flavors of cherry, stone, flowers and minerals and conveying a powerful impression of sappiness. Finishes with explosive palate-staining energy and captivating high-pitched perfume. A great vintage for this consistently Outstanding premier cru, and in need of 10 to 12 years of cellaring. These 2010s have it all. WA 94-96 (2/2012): The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Brulees boasts incredible finesse and inner perfume in its expressive dark red cherries, flowers, mint and spices. This is much more about sheer textural finesse and elegance than anything else. Layers of fruit continue to flesh out on the expressive, radiant finish. There was quite a bit of millerandage in this parcel. The Brulees has plenty of weight but no heaviness. This is a superb showing. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040. BH 93-95 (1/2012): There is enough reduction present to make it quite difficult to assess the nose though there is a wonderfully exotic quality to the inner mouth perfume emanating from the gorgeously opulent and mineral-driven flavors. I very much like the strong sense of underlying tension and while Meo's Brûlees can often be an overtly robust wine, the 2010 version is a really quite refined though make no mistake as there is good power and plenty of underlying muscle. In short, this is a stunner of a wine. Don't miss! Outstanding! Drink: 2025+ |

| VM 90 (5/2011): The 2009 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes shows lovely intensity in its dark fruit, licorice, menthol and sweet spices, all of which come together nicely in the glass. The Chaumes captures the essence of the vintage, especially in its open, textured finish. Antonio Galloni. |

| BH 90-92 (1/2016): Once again there is a discreet but not invisible application of wood setting off the very Vosne-like nose of Asian-style tea, sandalwood, violet, dark berry and a lovely mix of spice elements. The spiciness continues onto the supple and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a delicious and lingering finish. This isn't as concentrated as the Boudots and it's not quite as structured either but it is certainly pretty and should drink well sooner. |

| BH 93 (4/2009): A superbly elegant and incredibly pure nose that is so fine that it's not even necessary to drink the wine to enjoy it as it's kaleidoscopically broad and deep with a brilliant range of spice elements adding subtlety and fascination to the red fruit and violet aromas that are the perfect complement to rich, full and generous medium-bodied flavors that are a study in class and grace, all wrapped in a finish of impressive persistence. This is delicious and obviously very young but the perfumed nose is almost worth the price of admission by itself. Drink 2017+. Don't miss! |

BH 93 (1/2010): A very high-toned, airy and layered nose of red berry fruit and distinct floral notes, particularly dried red and white rose petal with a touch of lavender, slides gracefully into pure, intense, rich, full and focused middle weight flavors that possess excellent power and punch with ample minerality on the wonderfully long and moderately austere finish. This is an Outstanding effort in the context of the vintage. Drink 2019+. VM 91-94 (4/2009): Bright, deep red. Aromas of raspberry liqueur, blueberry, menthol and musky herbs. Rich, chewy and dry; comes across as quite austere after the last couple of grand crus. But then Jeremy Seysses finds this quality to be reassuring in the context of 2007. "I'm drawn to austerity in this vintage," he told me, adding that he plans to lay down magnums of this wine in his personal cellar, along with the Clos de la Roche and Echezeaux. Finishes with dusty tannins and excellent thrust. |

BH 90 (1/2010): A subtly spiced and exuberantly fruity red berry suffused nose displays notes of soy, anise and clove that slide gracefully into fresh, balanced, minerally and precise barely middle weight flavors that are utterly delicious and solidly complex but despite all the elegance and purity of expression, it comes across as just a bit light with touches of herbal and austerity on the finish. This is a wine of discretion and would be easy to overlook blind. Drink 2015+. VM 89-91 (4/2009): Medium red with a pale rim. Dark berries, violet and minerals on the nose and in the mouth. Nicely creamy in the middle, with a silky texture, but quite understated today. This rather reserved wine finishes with tangy red berries and a spicy, peppery tang. Vinified mostly with whole clusters. I suspect this is better than it's showing today. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2009): Here the nose expresses a completely different personality compared to the Brûlees as this is cooler, more discreet and more reserved though there is a similar breadth of spice elements present that clearly identify the wine as a fine Vosne. The linear, direct and more obviously mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors are strikingly energetic and also stain the palate on the lingering finish. Like the straight Vosne villages, this is Cistercian in its restraint at present and wonderfully classy. Drink 2015+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

| BH 92-94 (4/2009): An intensely spicy red berry fruit nose is expressive to the point of exuberance while introducing the hugely rich, full, intense and broad-shouldered flavors that possess real energy and drive on the sappy, mouth coating and stunningly long full-bodied flavors that display Outstanding depth. There is a serious amount of dry extract that makes this appear less structured than it is in reality. A most impressive effort that is less mineral-driven but a bit tighter than the Chambertin, at least at this early stage. Drink 2017+. |

JM 96 (5/2024): The domaine is blessed with a heritage of ancient vines, in part because Lalou Bize-Leroy never grubs up and replants All the wines are aged in François Frères barrels which have been air dried for three years. They are neither fined nor filtered – “sediment is the jewel in the bottle”. Not the densest but a fine even gentle red across the glass. Some smoky notes from the stems. Then a super svelte glowing mouthful of alpine and gariguette strawberries, and fresh white pepper, light acidity but adequate, just a few tannins, impeccable length. The smokiness and peppery aspect did not diminish with time. Drink from 2022-2037. BH 96 (6/2009): A deep, brooding and almost taciturn nose of ripe black berry fruit, intense violet notes and spice hints and warm earth gives way to sweet, rich and exceptionally fresh big-bodied flavors that are textured and completely saturate the palate with buckets of dry extract while at the same time buffering the ripe but very firm tannins, all wrapped in a stunningly long finish that has some of the best overall complexity of the entire range. This too will need ample patience but should more than reward the wait. A knock-out. Drink 2022+. WA 94 (6/2010): Its forward, succulent sweetness of red raspberry and purple plum fruit accompanied by blond tobacco and smoked meat set Leroy’s 2007 Richebourg apart from its Romanee-St.-Vivant sibling, whose utterly contrasting personality may convey more alluring mystery and complexity, but cannot compete with the sheer sappy concentration and particular energy and exuberance on display. There is a meaty savor, smoky tang, and brightness of berry fruit that truly stains the palate. I expect this is another Leroy wine that will defy its vintage by retaining stamina for two or more decades, and in the process will almost certainly reveal further facets. |

VM 92 (3/2010): Good medium red. Subtly complex nose offers cherry, raspberry and minerals. Delivers the sweet fruit of 2007 in spades, with a slightly high-toned quality that adds to its sex appeal (all these 2007s have volatile acidity levels around 0.6, according to Liger-Belair, which helps to explain their expressiveness.) Fat and sexy wine, with a complicating saline nuance. Finishes with sweet tannins and superb length. Stephen Tanzer. BH 91 (1/2010): ( from a .6 ha parcel situated two-thirds in Cruots and the rest in Champs Traversin.) A complex and layered nose of crushed herbs, floral and red berry fruit aromas leads to sappy, dense and powerful flavors that display both power and precision on the muscled, focused and driving finish. This is completely different from the Reignots and does not have the same delicacy or refinement though I would still characterize this as an Echezeaux of finesse. Drink 2017+. |

An understated Bonnes Mares that is built more along the lines of finesse than power and muscle. Drink 2014+. |

| VM 93 (3/2010): Bright, deep red. Knockout aromas and flavors of black cherry, black raspberry, crushed stone and smoky minerality. Wonderfully deep, tangy and sweet, with a captivating creamy texture making this deceptively tastable today. Impressive today for its volume, and finishes very long, broad and classically dry, with substantial fine-grained tannins. As delicious as this is right now, its overall balance suggests it will reward a decade of aging. For his part, Mugnier says that virtually every vintage of his Musigny needs ten years in the bottle. Stephen Tanzer. |

WA 90 (6/2010): Mugnier’s 2007 Nuits-St.-Georges Clos de la Marechale elicits aromatic allusions to ripe black raspberry, cedar, cardamom, burley tobacco, nut oils, and game, delivering a similar sense of complexity on a relatively rich if conspicuously tannin-girded palate. The sheer sap and finishing grip in evidence here suggest that one might want to follow the wine for 4-6 years in anticipation that the tannins will refine themselves. VM 90 (4/2010): Good deep red. Blueberry, licorice, brown spices and menthol on the complex nose. Richer and broader than the village wine, with more intense and complex flavors of spicy black and red berries, leather and minerals. Finishes dense, broad and spicy, with substantial fine tannins. An excellent Nuits-Saint-George wine. BH 89 (6/2010): An expressive nose of green apple, white flower and lemon zest aromas trimmed in a deft touch of wood merges into rich, clean and beautifully detailed middle weight flavors that possess a fine sense of underlying tension and punch on the layered and very dry finish that lingers nicely. Lovely and balanced. Drink: 2012+ |

| BH 92 (3/2019): Fresh and still youthful aromas are composed by notes of cool essence of red berries, earth, spice and a whiff of wood character. The round, supple and relatively forward middle weight flavors evidence plenty of minerality on the focused and sneaky long finish that tightens up noticeably as it sits on the palate. This well-made and utterly delicious effort isn't seductive but I like the delivery and balance and while it could certainly be enjoyed now, I would continue to hold it for up to another decade. Try from 2025+. |

WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
