Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Bin-Soiled, Scuffed Label |
$495 |

| |
VM 92 (4/2017): Medium red. Aromas of plum and truffle are joined by musky wild notes and a balsamic quality on the rather soft nose. Supple and savory right now, with brown spice and earth notes dominating the middle palate. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and noteworthy length and grip. Not a particularly fruity style but has energy. Nicolas Groffier ventured the opinion that this vintage "has stabilized since 2005" and wondered out loud whether the wine's touch of sweetness, which he said was not apparent earlier, comes from its alcohol. Stephen Tanzer. BH 89 (1/2004): The expressive nose this displayed from cask has been replaced by a reserved, brooding, backward one though it displays understated and fresh red and black fruit aromas framed by obvious toast notes and followed by harmonious, sappy, full-bodied, powerful flavors that are not especially precise but extremely long. The overall impression is a bit too supple to be a classic Bonnes Mares but it's very pretty all the same. Drink 2007-2013. |

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses |
$595 |

|
| |
VM 92 (3/2004): Good deep red. Expressive, superripe aromas of briary currant and blueberry, menthol and mocha. Wonderfully sweet and aromatic in the mouth, with highly concentrated, nearly candied flavors of blackberry pie and framboise Shows a surmuri aspect that reminded me of grenache, but a firm spine of acidity gives the wine freshness and grip. Still a bit youthfully unforthcoming and in need of three to five years of aging. A powerful, extraordinarily ripe 2001 that finishes with big, tongue-dusting tannins and explosive length. Stephen Tanzer. BH 90 (1/2004): Sexy, complex and perfumed aromas merge seamlessly with round, plump, sappy, medium weight flavors underpinned by ripe structure and subtle acidity. There is lovely balance here and this is extremely stylish with another dimension of complexity and overall finesse plus a velvety finish. Drink 2007-2013. |

| VM 89-91 (1/2015): (entirely destemmed; aged in one-year-old barrels): Healthy deep red. Tight aromas of blueberry and violet. Densely packed but light on its feet; more savory and less fruity than the village Gevrey. Finishes with slightly edgy tannins and good minty persistence. I may be underrating this wine today. |

| VM 88-90 (1/2013): Deep, saturated medium red. Black raspberry syrup and a whiff of truffle on the nose. Superrich and thick but sappy too, showing more spicy lift and tangy berry fruit than the Haut-Doix. Still showing a bit of unabsorbed (malic?) acidity on the fresh finish. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 91 (3/2016): (50% new oak; 80% vendange entier): Deep, bright red. Reduced, wild aromas of black raspberry, licorice and game. In a large-scaled, sweet, rather powerful style, with plenty of salty extract to buffer its strong acidity. The wine's volume belies the fact that grape sugars at harvest were just below 12 degrees. Big tannins build with air. This will need time in the cellar to assume its adult shape. |

WA 93-95 (2/2012): I tasted the 2010 Pommard Clos des Epeneaux from three separate lots (corresponding to different vine ages and soils within the Clos) and then in an approximate blend. The 2010 is notable for its energy and sheer class. There is a weightless elegance to the 2010 that is quite striking. The 2010 isn’t as boisterous as it can be, but this is an approximate blend, so we will have to see what happens once the wine is in bottle. In some ways, the separate lots are more exciting than the approximate blend, so there is plenty of potential. Readers who appreciate the focused, taut side of Burgundy will find much to admire. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. VM 92-95 (2/2012): (I tasted the various elements of this wine, then an approximate blend; winemaker Benjamin Leroux now vinifies several cuvees by geology rather than age of vines): Good bright medium red. Captivating, highly complex aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, cherry, spices, orange zest, flowers, licorice, menthol and vanillin oak (40% new). Silky-sweet but with lovely energy and vinosity. Very suave in texture, expanding impressively on the back half and saturating the mouth with fruit and soil flavors. This classy, pliant wine shows superb balance and finishes with building, subtle length. The bottling won't take place until April, at the earliest. Incidentally, Leroux destems all of this fruit, as he believes vinification with a percentage of whole clusters makes more sense for delicate wines that need a bit more mid-palate oomph. Nor is he enamored with the idea of bottling the oldest vines bottled on their own, as he believes this wine would still be too tannic and hard when the tertiary aromas arrive after 10 or 15 years in bottle. BH 92-95 (4/2012): ( the 5+ ha Clos is composed of approximately 80% Petits Epenots and 20% Grands Epenots; the vine ages run from 18 to 75+ years of age. The 2010 Clos des Epeneaux is segregated into several different cuvees based on vineyard location and will then be blended in varying proportions. The tasting note that follows is based upon a sample that should reasonably resemble the final blend) The combined cuvees revealed an exceptionally fresh combination of pure and quite elegant red cherry and raspberry aromas liberally laced with warm earth and iron nuances. There is really lovely purity to the gorgeously well-detailed, intense and muscular medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract and a caressing mouth feel before terminating in a mouth coating and explosively long finish. This is relentlessly persistent with Outstanding depth on the palate staining finish. Terrific. Drink 2022+. Don't Miss! Outstanding! |

BH 96 (1/2013): (from a .375 ha parcel situated by La Grande Rue.) A notably floral character adds breadth to the highly spiced and exceptionally fresh nose of cool red currant and plum. The rich, refined and admirably pure middle weight flavors are supported and shaped by ultra-fine tannins that coat the mouth on the incredibly long finish. Despite the underlying tension, this is essentially a wine of finesse and harmony that should also age for a very long time if desired. Brilliant and remarkably complex. Drink 2025+. VM 93-96 (2/2012): Deep, bright red. Lively aromas of raspberry, cherry, minerals, spices and game. Utterly silky on entry, then spreads out to saturate the entire palate with red fruits and spices. A step up in breadth and perfume from the Suchots, delivering an impression of weightlessness and impressive finesse. This round and sexy RSV is remarkably showy already, and finishes with captivating aromatic persistence. |

| BH 91-94 (1/2012): (From a .19 ha parcel). This is also wonderfully elegant and notably more complex with notes of small wild red berries, plum and violets introducing rich, delicious, intense and mouth coating flavors that possess excellent mid-palate sap that buffers the otherwise firm tannins on the impeccably well-balanced finish. This is terrific and more refined than is typical for this cru. Drink 2018+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

BH 91-94 (4/2012): A recalcitrant nose grudgingly offers up notes of cassis, plum, black cherry and floral nuances. There is a redoubtable size, weight and power to the overtly muscular flavors that are underpinned by excellent concentration and very firm but ripe tannins that impart a dusty texture to the explosively long finish. Like the Latricières, this seems to have everything that it needs except for first-rate complexity. My score assumes that this will arrive in time. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! VM 91-94 (2/2012): Bright dark red. Compelling nose offers raspberry, blueberry, clove, smoky minerality, coffee and mocha. Highly concentrated and vibrant, with a distinctly saline character leavening the wine's sweetness. The strong brown spice element carries through on the palate. Finishes very long but a bit youthfully brutal, with strong, almost tart acidity. This will need extended aging to come into harmony. |

BH 92 (4/2012): (from a less than .34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis). A very ripe but not surmature nose of cassis, earth and a hint of the sauvage gives way to exceptionally rich, round and velvety-textured flavors that display impressive size, weight and power, all wrapped in a long and overtly austere finish. Though quite ripe this is built along the lines of a classic example of Clos de Vougeot. Drink 2022+. WA 92-94 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos Vougeot is impressive. Underlying veins of minerality support focused fruit in this decidedly racy, full-bodied Clos Vougeot. Power, richness and sheer energy flow as the wine opens up in the glass. Sweet, floral notes flesh out on the expressive, focused finish. The 80% new oak is very deftly balanced. This is a dazzling wine from Henri Boillot. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. VM 91-94 (2/2012): Deep ruby-red. Very closed nose hints at violet, bitter chocolate and licorice; showing the cabernet side of this grand cru today. Then surprisingly suave in texture, with strong minerality and harmonious acidity perking up the flavors of black fruits and menthol. Finishes long and powerful, with firm, granular tannins and lingering saline and licorice nuances." |

BH 93 (4/2012): Aromatically speaking, this is not all that dissimilar from the Champans except that it's more restrained and adds a note of black cherry as well. There is excellent mid-palate concentration to the impressively complex and mouth coating flavors that brim with dry extract that confers a velvety texture onto the lingering finish. The underlying tannins are notably firm but well-integrated but note that this too will need ample cellar time to arrive at its peak. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! VM 93-95 (2/2012): Bright ruby-red. Knockout nose combines dark fruits, minerals, bitter chocolate and underbrush. Offers superb density and thickness without excess weight, with the wine's substantial baby fat given shape by building minerality. Intense black fruit flavors stain the palate on the very long, strong finish, which features noble, fine-grained tannins. WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Volnay Les Santenots is the most refined and impeccable of these 2010 Volnays from Henri Boillot. Ripe, silky tannins buffer the fruit in this sumptuous, impeccably refined Volnay. Floral notes wrap around the deep, persistent finish. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. |

| BH 93 (4/2012): ( from a 4 ha parcel.) Noticeable though not overt wood influence sets off a very ripe nose composed of liqueur of plum, cassis and wild raspberry aromas. There is excellent richness to the round and relatively powerful medium weight flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that buffers the otherwise very firm, long and serious finish. This is also notably austere and extremely compact at present and as such it seems reasonably clear that it will not be a good candidate for early drinking. Drink 2020+. Don't miss! Outstanding! |

| BH 94 (4/2012): (from Domaine-owned fruit in two similarly sized parcels - one at the top and the other at the bottom of the slope.) This is really quite aromatically refined, indeed the expressive nose is highly perfumed and speaks of floral, plum and black cherry scents layered with a subtle earthiness. The sense of refinement continues onto the palate as the focused, intense and sleekly muscular flavors evidence good power on the balanced, long and only moderately austere finish. As Clos de Vougeot typically goes, this is a very refined example. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! |

| BH 94 (4/2012): A brooding but impressively complex nose features notes of red currant, plum, earth and plenty of that Corton sauvage character. The textured, intense and broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration with fully mature structural elements. There is ample buffering sap, which is important as one would reasonably expect, this is a big and sleekly muscled wine with an explosively long, linear and overtly austere finish. The potential here is mostly impressive though note that plenty of patience is requisite. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! |

This is a big wine with excellent volume as well as fine mid-palate concentration to the powerful, focused and intense flavors that deliver striking length but not nearly the same overall depth as the Clos de Vougeot. BH 91-93 (6/2012): A spicy, cool and ripe nose of wild raspberries, plum and red berry fruit liqueur aromas leads to highly energetic, detailed and refined medium-bodied flavors that possess fine depth and length on the mouth coating finish. This is quite good if not genuinely sensational. (Drink starting 2022). VM 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Echézeaux (from Combe d'Orveaux) is simply impeccable. Crushed flowers, spices and sweet red cherries are all woven together effortlessly in this sensual wine. The 2010 is all about finesse and elegance. Slight elements of fragility come through on the finish, but the vulnerable side of the wine is equally compelling. I look forward to tasting this once it is in bottle. There is an element of mystery and intrigue in the glass that in many ways sums up so much of what Burgundy is all about. (Drink between 2018-2030). Antonio Galloni. |

BH 96 (1/2013): An intensely floral nose features notes of rose petals and lavender along with cool red berry fruit liberally laced with wet stone nuances. The taut and muscular broad-scaled and concentrated flavors are precise, intense and explosively long on the focused and stunningly persistent finish that is youthfully austere and breathtakingly intense. This faultlessly well-balanced but very firm effort will require extended cellaring and 15 to 20 years is probably what the structure will require to completely resolve. Drink 2025+. VM 96+ (9/2014): The 2010 Clos de La Roche from Dujac is an infant, but it is also fabulous. All of the signatures are there; soaring aromatics, finely sculpted fruit and vibrant, pulsating tannins. What a privilege it is to drink the 2010 over several hours at dinner. An intensely perfumed, multi-dimensional Burgundy, the 2010 captures all of the potential I have seen in previous tastings. Ideally, the 2010 should be cellared for at least a handful of years, as it is built for a long life that will go out for several decades. Readers who own the 2010 should be thrilled. VM 95+ (3/2013): Good medium red. Pungent aromas and flavors of candied raspberry, flowers, stone and sandalwood show a liqueur-like ripeness. Extremely intense and packed with tangy fruit; in fact, wonderfully expressive and extroverted today for such a dense, even brawny wine. The superb rising finish features big but ripe tannins and great fruit persistence. Has all the elements to make a great and long-lived bottle. WA 93-95 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos de la Roche wafts from the glass with sweet scents of tobacco, crushed flowers and spices. Tasted after the Charmes, the Clos de la Roche comes across as decidedly feminine, but there is plenty of weightless energy being held back, at least that is the sense I get today. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. |

| BH 95-98 (1/2012): This is aromatically similar to the "regular" cuvee of the Clos de Bèze but not identical as it's slightly spicier and notably more restrained, indeed even backward. The big-bodied, opulent and exceptionally rich flavors enjoy huge depth of material that renders the firm and ripe tannins almost invisible at present though I expect that they will become much more prominent in time. This stunningly long and perfumed effort will require at least 20 years of cellar time before it can fully resolve its structure. Until then, lots of patience will be necessary for this 'wow' wine to arrive at its full maturity. Drink 2030+. |

BH 93-96 (1/2012): A very deeply pitched nose that displays fresh red and dark berry fruit and floral aromas along with notes of the sauvage that continue over to the serious and very solidly structured big-bodied flavors. This is an impressively scaled wine yet the supporting tannins are relatively fine though quite dense and as such, the overall impression is one of robust power even if it is refined in its delivery. This is going to require a long cellar stay but it should be magnificent when it finally emerges. (Drink starting 2028). VM 92-95 (1/2012): Good deep red. Reduced aromas of game and silex reminded me of a Corton grand cru. Fat and sweet but a bit monolithic today compared to the Latricieres, without quite the same impression of inner-palate energy of delineation. Best today on the very long, thick, unflagging finish. This very large-scaled wine still needs more elevage . Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 92-94 (1/2012): (from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Meo-Camuzet vines; the 2010 was vinified with about 10% whole clusters). A very mild floral hint adds elegance to the ripe red berry fruit and distinctly earth-inflected nose. There is excellent richness to the impressively scaled and overtly powerful flavors that possess fine balance and focus on the lingering finish. Lovely juice with a bit less youthful austerity than I typically find with this wine. Drink 2022+ VM 92-94 (2/2012): Good bright red. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, coffee, mocha and violet on the nose, with a high note of blood orange. Then silky and dry in the mouth, with a wonderfully refined texture for a young Clos-Vougeot. Plenty of power here as well. Really spreads out to saturate the palate on the back end, finishing with a savory, subtle perfume and terrific tactile persistence. WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos de Vougeot is quite open and radiant at this stage. This is a totally gorgeous Clos de Vougeot that captures plenty of finesse with none of the austerity or angularity that can sometimes plague wines from this site. A pointed, mineral-drenched finish balances the wine beautifully. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030. |

VM 96+ (3/2013): (13.8% alcohol "with a bit of chaptalization," according to winemaker Charles Van Canneyt): Deep, full red. Very recent but pure nose eventually reveals scents of musky wild red fruits and smoky, stony minerality; a real essence of Burgundy. Deep and thick on the palate; dense with extract and utterly smooth too but with explosive energy suggesting that this wine will repay long aging. Finishes with Outstanding rising smoky persistence and powerful stony minerality. These 2010s, bottled in February of 2012, display extraordinary digestibility. Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (1/2013): (from vines that abut those of the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti in Richebourg proper.) Here the reduction is present also but at least there is some spiciness in evidence. There is excellent richness and muscle to the big-bodied and impressively vibrant medium weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a palate staining and magnificently long finish. There is power here but overall this is more a Riche of elegance than brawn. I very much like the potential but caution compels me to point out that the reduction is a concern though again with this wine it seems less like a permanent problem. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 96 (4/2013): This is consistently one of Jadot's finest wines and 2010 is no different, in fact it would appear to have even greater ultimate potential than the Musigny, which isn't always the case. The spicy, ripe and exceptionally complex nose of airy, pure and cool red currant, plum and stone aromas gracefully merges into the powerful but sophisticated medium-bodied flavors that possess seemingly buckets of dry extract that almost forcefully pushes the very firm tannic spine to the background on the markedly austere, compact and very tight finish. As intense and powerful as this is, the mouth feel is almost lilting and this is a classic example of a wine exhibiting what I call power without weight. In a word, stunning but note well my suggested optimal drinking window as this will not be for the impatient. Drink 2030+. |

| BH 92 (4/2013): There is a discreet application of wood to the elegant, pure and lightly spiced nose of layered black raspberry and cassis nose that is also barely visible on the mineral-driven, intense and tension-filled medium-bodied flavors. There is excellent volume and plenty of mid-palate stuffing because while this is certainly a wine of finesse, it does not lack for character or seriously impressive persistence on the gorgeously balanced if distinctly austere finish. A wine of class and grace that will need plenty of cellar time as it has already begun to shut down. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

| BH 94 (4/2013): ( from 90+ year old vines that are worked by horse.) A notably floral and elegant nose of ripe yet high-toned aromas of essence of red pinot fruit combines with subtle spice, game and warm earth nuances. There is a velvety mouth feel yet good precision to the wonderfully rich flavors that possess a high level of phenolic maturity before terminating in a refined, pure and delicately balanced finish. An exercise in harmony and grace that should allow it to age brilliantly yet not be completely uncivilized if you wanted to try one young. In two words, absolutely stunning. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 91-94 (4/2012): This is also notably ripe with a pungent and highly expressive nose of cassis, menthol and wood toast where additional breadth is present in the form of wet stone and spices. BH 94 (1/2013): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 45 years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 20+ years of age; vinified with 100% whole clusters.) A highly expressive and very broad nose of superb aromatic complexity that includes earth, game, spice, red currant, plum, violets and a hint of the sauvage. The round and supple flavors possess outstanding detail and while the complexity doesn't quite match that of the exquisite nose, it's not far behind and this culminates in a beautifully balanced and harmonious finish that delivers striking persistence. I also had a chance to retaste the 2009 and it is bigger, richer and more powerful while the 2010 is much more of a wine of finesse and refinement. In a word, beautiful. Drink 2022+. VM 93+ (3/2013): Good bright, deep red. Very closed but pure and stylish nose hints at cherry liqueur and spices, with elements of mulch and pepper emerging with air. Dense, tactile and large-boned, but with its flesh somewhat suppressed today. Finishes saline, concentrated and thick, with substantial granular tannins. This needs at least six to eight more years in bottle to expand, and may well deserve an even higher score by 2020. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 94-96 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos de la Roche, on the other hand, emphasizes focus and linearity. The wine's length alone is remarkable. Sweet red cherries, dried roses, exotic spices, smoke and licorice are some of the many notes that are woven throughout this utterly compelling, complex Clos de La Roche. The gracious, weightless finish is strikingly beautiful. Antonio Galloni. BH 93-96 (4/2012): A fresh, cool and highly layered nose features notes of pure red pinot fruit, spice, earth, plum and game hints. There is the same superb richness to the suave and relatively supple middle weight flavors blessed with copious amounts of palate staining dry extract. The underpinning tannins are quite dense but both ripe and ultra-fine if not quite as fine as those of the Clos St. Denis. By contrast, there is even more power and even a bit more overall depth on the very firm, long and impeccably well-balanced finish. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 91-93 (1/2012): Here the nose is slightly riper and a bit spicier as well on the purple fruit nose where the nuances are stifled somewhat by the presence of noticeable if not dominant reduction. There is a seductive velvety texture to the exceptionally rich and full-bodied flavors that possess more volume but not the same minerality on the balanced, persistent and palate coating finish. A qualitative choice though the intrinsic character of these two wines is quite different. (Drink starting 2022). |

VM 96 (4/2013): Bright full, medium red. A real wake-up call on the nose, offering sappy black and red cherry fruit aromas complicated by crushed-rock minerality and notes of rose petal and violet; an essence of Burgundy. Then generous and dense but weightless on the palate, and less austere today than the Clos Vougeot and Corton Clos Rognets, showing salty, chewy flavors of cherry, stone, flowers and minerals and conveying a powerful impression of sappiness. Finishes with explosive palate-staining energy and captivating high-pitched perfume. A great vintage for this consistently Outstanding premier cru, and in need of 10 to 12 years of cellaring. These 2010s have it all. WA 94-96 (2/2012): The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Brulees boasts incredible finesse and inner perfume in its expressive dark red cherries, flowers, mint and spices. This is much more about sheer textural finesse and elegance than anything else. Layers of fruit continue to flesh out on the expressive, radiant finish. There was quite a bit of millerandage in this parcel. The Brulees has plenty of weight but no heaviness. This is a superb showing. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040. BH 93-95 (1/2012): There is enough reduction present to make it quite difficult to assess the nose though there is a wonderfully exotic quality to the inner mouth perfume emanating from the gorgeously opulent and mineral-driven flavors. I very much like the strong sense of underlying tension and while Meo's Brûlees can often be an overtly robust wine, the 2010 version is a really quite refined though make no mistake as there is good power and plenty of underlying muscle. In short, this is a stunner of a wine. Don't miss! Outstanding! Drink: 2025+ |

| BH 92-94 (4/2012): This is also exceptionally fresh, cool and bright and while the composition of the aromas is not dissimilar to that of the Mitans, here there is a noticeably greater emphasis on the mineral component. This minerality also defines the intense, delineated and highly energetic medium-bodied flavors that terminate in an explosive long and overtly austere finish. This stunning effort is a classic old school and completely textbook Taillepieds. Drink 2022+. Don't miss! Outstanding! |

VM 92+ (3/2013): Very deep, bright red. Sappy black cherry, raspberry, cola and licorice on the nose, plus a whiff of animal fur. Big, deep and chocolatey, with serious depth of black cherry and dark berry fruit. The big Nuits-Saint-Georges tannins are sexed up by high-toned oak spices on the impressively long finish. Jacques-Frederic Mugnier punches down the cap late in the fermentation, when the juice is almost dry and the skins have softened, an approach that he believes results in a steadier uptake of sugar in his wines. Stephen Tanzer. BH 91 (6/2013): An all but invisible touch of wood sets off pretty and cool aromas of citrus rind, dried floral nuances and a hint of minerality. There is good richness and plenty of verve to the well-detailed middle weight flavors that possess a sappy mouth feel on the mouth coating and bone dry finish. This is really quite good and while not a wine of particular refinement, there is excellent character and persistence. I like this as it's refreshing, well-balanced and has plenty of depth to it. Worth considering. Drink from 2015+. Outstanding! |

BH 92 (1/2013): I have never been a huge fan of this wine as I often find it to be somewhat coarse, and while always very good, I am rarely moved by it. However, in 2010, as was the case in 2009, this is much better than it usually is with a relatively perfumed nose that includes notes of earth along with the natural sauvage character of the vineyard. In fact there is even a certain elegance to the attractively layered airy and cool red berry liqueur aromas. There is good richness and fine volume to the moderately robust and muscular flavors that culminate in a balanced and linear finish that evidences mild austerity. I quite like this as the tannins are finer than usual and there is a real sense of harmony and completeness. Drink 2020+. Outstanding! VM 91+ (4/2013): Good bright, deep red. Briary dark berries, black cherry, menthol and a smoky nuance on the nose. Rich and quite ripe, with deep dark berry and smoke flavors perked up by mint and minerals. At once dense and agreeable for this cuvee. WA 90-92 (2/2012): The 2010 Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere is an explosive wine. Dark red cherries, freshly cut flowers, graphite and mint all take shape in the glass. The Clos de la Bussiere stands out for its energy, focus and length. Persistent saline notes add freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. |

WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
