2010 Maison Henri Boillot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
Vintage: 2010
Region: Burgundy Red
Color/Type: Red
Size: 750 ML
Tasting Notes:
BH 92 (4/2012): (from a less than .34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis). A very ripe but not surmature nose of cassis, earth and a hint of the sauvage gives way to exceptionally rich, round and velvety-textured flavors that display impressive size, weight and power, all wrapped in a long and overtly austere finish. Though quite ripe this is built along the lines of a classic example of Clos de Vougeot. Drink 2022+. WA 92-94 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos Vougeot is impressive. Underlying veins of minerality support focused fruit in this decidedly racy, full-bodied Clos Vougeot. Power, richness and sheer energy flow as the wine opens up in the glass. Sweet, floral notes flesh out on the expressive, focused finish. The 80% new oak is very deftly balanced. This is a dazzling wine from Henri Boillot. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. VM 91-94 (2/2012): Deep ruby-red. Very closed nose hints at violet, bitter chocolate and licorice; showing the cabernet side of this grand cru today. Then surprisingly suave in texture, with strong minerality and harmonious acidity perking up the flavors of black fruits and menthol. Finishes long and powerful, with firm, granular tannins and lingering saline and licorice nuances."

BH 87 (4/2024): (from vineyards in Santenay, Marsannay and the lower portions of Volnay.) An unusually elegant nose for the genre features perfumed aromas of plum, violet and cool cherry. There is both a lovely texture and energy to the delicious middleweight flavors that deliver fine length on the lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. Serve it cool though and you won't notice. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! VM 88-90 (1/2024): The 2022 Bourgogne is bursting with red purplish fruit, spice, rose petal and lavender. This mid-weight, fruity Bourgogne is an absolute delight. Enjoy it over the next few years. It’s a great introduction to this range. Neal Martin. |

BH 87 (4/2025): (from vineyards in Santenay, Marsannay and the lower portions of Volnay). This is unusually pretty for a Bourgogne with its array of ripe plum and violet scents. There is fine volume to the utterly delicious and solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that display impressive length on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This is a quality Bourgogne and worth a look, especially for value. Drink 2026+. JM 86-88 (10/2024): The Bourgogne includes fruit from Pernand and Santenay and Marsannay. Rich deep purple, very ripe cherry, not cooked, but in the opulent style. Slightly firm fruit behind, with a certain glossiness before the crunchy finish. Drink from 2026-2028. |

BH 93 (4/2016): (from a <.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis.) A ripe but restrained nose features notes of both red and dark berry fruit, earth, humus, smoke and exotic tea scents along with a background hint of oak toast. There is impressive volume to the well-muscled and broad-shouldered flavors that possess plenty of underlying tension, all wrapped in a complex, rustic and lingering finish that is less austere than usual. This beauty will require at least a decade to be at its best. Drink 2024+. VM 90-93 (1/2016): (aged in 75% new oak, but Boillot used 350-liter barrels to get more freshness): Healthy dark red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, chocolate, menthol and herbs are less fruity today than the Volnays here. Large-scaled, round and sweet, showing more complex, soil-driven salinity than easy fruit in the early going. Powerful material here. Finishes saline, ripely tannic and long. This wine may need a solid eight years in the cellar to approach maturity. |

| VM 91-93 (1/2017): (100% vendange entier; the Boillots work these vines in Grand Maupertuis themselves): Saturated deep red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice and rose petal communicate striking fruity lift for young Clos Vougeot. Very rich, sappy and deep, but but with no sign of overripeness and markedly different in style from the Côte de Beaune samples that preceded it in my tasting, partly due to its whole-cluster treatment. This distinctly fine-grained Clos Vougeot has clearly benefited from the weather conditions of 2015. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 92-95 (1/2018): (there was a lot of frost here, but the Boillots' two parcels of very old vines in Grand Maupertui suffered less than vines at the bottom of the clos; 25 hectoliters per hectare produced; 75% new oak): Good dark red; more deeply colored than Boillot's estate wines from the Côte de Beaune. Lovely perfumed lift to the aromas of red cherry, licorice, spices and flowers. Then fat and thick in the mouth, with dark berry and black cherry flavors energized by salty minerality. Lovely inner-palate tension and flavor complexity here. The tannins are firm but not dusty or dry on the long, rising finish. Boillot does a fermentation integrale for most of his Côte de Nuits wines, vinifying them in barrels, then pressing them and returning them to barrel. This technique makes for gentler extraction and results in an earlier integration of fruit and oak elements, typically yielding rounder, more voluminous wines with silkier tannins but also more structure without dryness. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 94 (4/2019): (from a <.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis.) A brooding deeply pitched and softly spicy nose reflects plenty of earth and sauvage characters to the dark berry aromas that are trimmed in soft wood nuances. There is excellent size, weight and power to the muscular flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the imposingly structured and youthfully austere finish that is sneaky long. This is a big 2017 that is supported by chewy but not really rustic tannins that make clear that at least some patience is advisable. Drink 2032+. |

WA 94 (1/2020): The 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is showing very well, soaring from the glass with aromas of wild berries, rose petals, violets, orange rind and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with lively acids and a powdery but elegantly refined chassis of structuring tannins, concluding with a long and resonant finish. BH 92 (4/2020): ( from a <.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis.) This plays right on the edge of volatile acidity with its nose of poached plum, black raspberry and warm earth. The middle weight flavors are not especially dense but do possess a highly attractive mouthfeel while displaying good power on the bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. This moderately firm effort is somewhat awkward at present, but I suspect that it will recover with age. Drink 2033+. |

| BH 92 (4/2023): A moderately deeply pitched nose combines notes of black cherry and earth with those of violet and plum. There is fine mid-palate volume to the fleshy and palate coating flavors that possess focused power on the lingering finish that is neither especially austere nor robust in 2021. With that said, this will still be more than capable of repaying 12 to 15 years of keeping. |

BH 91 (4/2023): (from a ~.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis). A brooding and distinctly earthy nose is comprised mostly by notes of plum and dark currant. The sleek and precise, but not especially dense, flavors do possess a lovely sense of energy and precise that also characterizes the balanced and youthfully austere finale that is sufficiently firm to assure at least a decade of development potential. JM 91-94 (10/2024): A deep ruby purple. Powerful dense red fruit without detail as yet. Solid, concentrated, four-square, with no shortage of fruit, and a few tannins completing the muscular structure. Perhaps not quite as persistent as the best in the cellar. Drink from 2031-2037. |

BH 94 (4/2013): (near the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted North-South). Somewhat counterintuitively this possesses riper fruit with distinct sauvage notes to the humus and mineral-inflected, brooding and very cool wild dark berry fruit aromas. There is excellent power to the driving and highly energetic, stony and robust flavors that display impressive mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in an austere, explosive and strikingly long finish. This is a serious wine but then again, isn’t Chambertin virtually always serious in its youth? Drink 2026+. VM 92-95 (2/2013): Good dark red. Very pure but reticent aromas of dark berries, mocha and sandalwood; smells creamy. Then lush and seamless in the mouth, but with great energy to the flavors of black cherry clafouti, dark chocolate, licorice and pepper. The explosive, slowly mounting finish features substantial fine-grained tannins and black fruit and pepper elements complicated by saline minerality. |

| BH 91 (4/2021): (near the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted North-South). Like the Clos de Bèze, here too there is a whiff of volatile acidity though in this case it is decidedly more subtle though still perceptible on the more restrained and more floral cool red currant scents. The equally restrained and transparent large-scaled flavors brim with both dry extract and minerality before concluding in a youthfully austere and markedly firm finale. I would make the same observation here as I did with the Bèze, which is to say it’s impossible to predict how VA will affect any given person’s perception of a wine but in this case, I was less bothered by it than with the Clos de Bèze. Drink 2036+. |

BH 94 (4/2025): (near the tree line at the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted in a North-South orientation). This is also beautifully layered and while not quite as spicy, it’s close though the fruit profile is derived more from plum and dark currant. The super-sleek and more mineral-driven flavors possess medium density and excellent underlying tension that gives the firm and youthfully austere finish real punch. Not surprisingly given that this is Chambertin, extended patience will be necessary. Drink 2035+. JM 95-97 (10/2024): More purple and less ruby compared to Beze. A greater depth of fruit, more layers to it. I loved the vigour of the Clos de Bèze but this has more of a natural majesty. Profound, with a silky texture on top of a hard rock Chambertin. Drink from 2032-2045. |

| BH 90 (4/2021): (from a parcel purchased in 2007 and replanted; 2018 was the first vintage where this has been declared under its own name as it was previously blended). A cool, pure if very restrained nose features a pretty mix of red and dark currant and earth nuances that are trimmed in just enough menthol and wood toast to mention. There is again very fine volume to the sappy, rich and powerful medium-bodied flavors that, much like the Fremiets, remain relatively refined before culminating in a dusty, saline and beautifully persistent finish. This is lovely and it’s not so structured that it couldn’t be approached after only 5 or so years. Drink 2027+. |

BH 92 (4/2015): ( from equally sized parcels in both Rugiens Hauts and Bas that measure <1 ha.) A cool, airy and exceptionally pretty nose demonstrates notes of red cherry and raspberry, floral, anise and soft earth scents. There is more volume but interestingly also more precision to the broad-shouldered and voluminous flavors that exhibit plenty of minerality on the complex, long and powerful finish. The level of dry extract is impressive and while the balance isn't perfect this should still make for lovely drinking in time. Drik 2023+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 91-93 (1/2015): (a combination of Haut and Bas, the top of the cru providing fresher fruit and the bottom riper, according to Guillaume Boillot; aged in 50% new oak): Good bright red. ure but reticent aromas of redcurrant, rust and minerals; conveys a distinct iron character. Then creamy and seamless in the mid-palate but with a decidedly elegant delicacy. Finishes savory and long, with a serious spine of peppery tannins calling for patience. WA 89-91 (12/2014): The 2013 Pommard 1er Cru les Rugiens, which comes from two parcels located in Rugiens Haut and Rugiens Bas, has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet that is harmonious and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, good acidity here, with a fresh and almost citric finish. Nicely structured with fine tannins, this carries the 50% new oak well and should give 10-15 years of pleasure. |

| VM 91-93 (1/2018): (in order to allow the seeds to ripen, Boillot waited until five days after he picked his Volnays to harvest this fruit on September 28, with 12.8% potential alcohol; 50% new oak): Moderately saturated bright medium red. Brooding aromas of dark fruits and menthol. Chalky and penetrating but youthfully tight, conveying a stronger impression of medicinal reserve than the Volnay Les Caillerets. A distinctly masculine, classic Pommard, juicy but imploded in the early going. The mounting finish features firm, mouth-saturating tannins, hints of spices and white pepper, and savory soil suggestions. The Boillots' holding is in Rugiens-Haut, on white soil and sand with relatively little iron content. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 93 (4/2019): : (from equally sized parcels in both Rugiens Hauts and Bas that measure @1 ha). A superfresh if restrained nose speaks of ripe aromas of poached plum, violet and black cherry. The highly energetic and intensely mineral-driven middle weight plus flavors are at once tautly muscular and precise while the youthfully austere finish is shaped by quite fine-grained tannins. Like all examples of Rugiens worth of their name, this is built-to-age and will need it. Drink 2029+. |

WA 93+ (1/2020): The 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens is the last time Boillot will produce this appellation, made from purchased grapes. Offering up aromas of dark berries, cassis, baking chocolate, candied peel and licorice, the wine is medium to full-bodied, muscular and chalky, with fine depth at the core, succulent acids and a long finish. BH 93 (4/2020): ( from equally sized parcels in both Rugiens Hauts and Bas that measure <1 ha.) A brooding and quite reserved nose grudgingly offers up pretty aromas of red and black cherry liqueur-like aromas that are cut with both spice and floral influences. There is a lovely sense of refinement to the intense and well-detailed larger-scaled flavors that brim with minerality on the powerful, serious and built-to-age finale. This too is well-worth searching out provided that you have the patience to let it slumber for at least 8 to 10 years first. Drink 2033+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

VM 90 (3/2015): Bright, dark red. Sweet red berries, nutty oak and subtle soil tones on the nose. Fat, sweet and spicy, showing good fullness for village wine. Savory, serious Volnay with good vinosity and density and a saline complexity. Finishes with broad, building, ripe tannins and good savory persistence. Antonio Galloni. BH 88 (4/2014): (Entirely from 5 different 1ers). An earthy and distinctly ripe nose of cassis, plum and soft floral aromas gives way to equally earthy middle weight flavors where once again the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained. The finale is firm without being rustic though there is enough youthful austerity to notice. This should reward mid-term cellaring. Drink 2018+. |

BH 90 (4/2024): ( from the 1er Clos de la Rougeotte.) This is also perfumed and fresh with its nose of crushed red berries, tea and floral wisps. There is a more sophisticated texture to the utterly delicious medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the youthfully austere, balanced and moderately firm finale. This offers excellent quality for its level. Drink 2029+. Outstanding! VM 91-93 (1/2024): The 2022 Volnay, all from 1er Cru Clos de lo Rougeotte, is a serious wine. Dark, rich and sensual, the 2022 is terrific. Silky, plush contours wrap around the finish. This supple, inviting Volnay is a huge overachiever. Then again, it is a 1er Cru in all but name. BH 89 (4/2025): (from the 1er Clos de la Rougeotte). This is also aromatically quite pretty with a more elegant nose of black cherry, crushed anise and a whiff of rose petal. There is fine punch to the sleeker and more finely textured medium weight flavors that exude a lovely minerality on the sneaky long finale. A quality Volnay villages. Drink 2028+. JM 88-91 (10/2024): A rich and saturated crimson purple. Here there is more velvet in the texture. Still a certain firmness, more red berries than darker fruit, fills the palate and persists. Some of the grace of Volnay plus Henri Boillot’s uncompromising style. Drink from 2027-2031. |

BH 93 (4/2012): Aromatically speaking, this is not all that dissimilar from the Champans except that it's more restrained and adds a note of black cherry as well. There is excellent mid-palate concentration to the impressively complex and mouth coating flavors that brim with dry extract that confers a velvety texture onto the lingering finish. The underlying tannins are notably firm but well-integrated but note that this too will need ample cellar time to arrive at its peak. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! VM 93-95 (2/2012): Bright ruby-red. Knockout nose combines dark fruits, minerals, bitter chocolate and underbrush. Offers superb density and thickness without excess weight, with the wine's substantial baby fat given shape by building minerality. Intense black fruit flavors stain the palate on the very long, strong finish, which features noble, fine-grained tannins. WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Volnay Les Santenots is the most refined and impeccable of these 2010 Volnays from Henri Boillot. Ripe, silky tannins buffer the fruit in this sumptuous, impeccably refined Volnay. Floral notes wrap around the deep, persistent finish. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. |

This intense, powerful Volnay need serious time in the cellar. A generous, beautifully resonant finish rounds things off. Antonio Galloni. |

BH 91 (4/2016): A deft touch of wood sets off the ripe, pure and elegant aromas of spice and floral-inflected dark pinot fruit and plum scents. There is excellent delineation and energy to the tension-filled, rich and complex medium-bodied flavors that possess a lush, even opulent mouth feel yet the finish is borderline robust. In sum this is a Santenots of contrasts but I like the interplay of different elements. Drink 2021+. VM 89-92 (1/2016): Bright, dark red. Subtly complex dark red fruits, flowers and chocolate on the nose. Plush and silky on the palate, possessing good buffering material to support the fairly strong tannins. This seamless, vinous wine shows no easy sweetness but boasts excellent sappy vinosity. Incidentally, the Boillots recently sold their vines in Savigny-lès-Beaune and Beaune in order to buy some Puligny-Montrachet. |

WA 94-96 (8/2012): The 2011 Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet is built on a fabric of exquisite textural finesse and elegance. The Bienvenues is a bit less overt in its bouquet than the Criots, but richer, deeper and more seamless in its fruit. Here, too, it is the wine’s sheer pedigree that stands out most. Anticipated maturity: 2014+. BH 94 (6/2013): This is also notably ripe but the aromas do not run to the exotic as the honeysuckle, apricot, white peach and subtle spice notes are entirely classic. There is an appealing succulence to the delicious, intense and strikingly fine medium-bodied flavors and while there is certainly a sense of focused power present on the long, clean and refined finish, this is essentially a Bienvenues of finesse. Drink 2021+. Don't miss! VM 92-95 (9/2012): Bright yellow. Vibrant nose combines smoke, honey and sexy minerality. More concentrated and sweet than the Criots but with the verve--not to mention the saline density--of Boillot's Pucelles. Lovely creamy old-viney texture and length. The minerally finish leaves the taste buds quivering. |

| BH 96 (6/2022): (from Ladoix, Pernand and Aloxe). Subtle notes of mineral reduction and wood toast can be found on the aromas of green apple, clove and white flowers. The wonderfully intense, focused and muscular large-scaled flavors brim with both dry extract and an almost aggressively minerality on the markedly dry but not really austere finale. Like the Chevalier and Montrachet, this beauty of a Corton-Charlemagne is presently very tightly wound and is going to need extended patience to arrive at its peak. BH 96 (6/2024): (from Aloxe.) A markedly floral-suffused nose somewhat grudgingly reveals its array of exuberantly fresh and spicy Granny Smith apple, acacia blossom, oyster shell and iodine. While there is certainly good richness to the succulent and seductive broad-shouldered flavors, the mouthfeel is really quite sleek with both good detail and power to the taut, serious and built-to-age finale that is given a bit of lift from the presence of bitter citrus rind. This is almost painfully intense and youthfully austere effort could use better depth but that should present no particular problem if it's given a chance to develop. This too is first-rate. Drink 2034+. Don't miss! VM 93-95 (1/2024): The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a blend of fruit from Aloxe-Corton (75%) and Pernand-Vergelesses (25%), a combination that works well in giving the wine balance. There's quite a bit of phenolic intensity and youthful austerity here. Herbs, crushed rocks, graphite, mint and citrus confit build nicely. I very much admire the vibrancy here, even if the 2022 remains a bit unyielding today. Neal Martin. |

BH 97 (6/2026): (in most years, the blend is 80% from Aloxe and the remainder from Pernand). There is enough wood to notice on the cool and airy aromas of white peach, Granny Smith apple and mineral reduction. The middle weight plus flavors are borderline painfully intense while seemingly built on a base of stone as the mouthfeel is like rolling tiny rocks around the palate on the massively long, balanced and youthfully austere finale. This overtly powerful and strikingly good bone-dry effort is markedly compact and a wine that I would recommend buying only if you have the patience to allow it at least a decade in a cool cellar. This could well be the Corton-Charlemagne of the vintage. Drink 2036+. JM 93-95 (10/2025): Fresh mid lemon. A fine concentration of fresh stony soil, with a little barrel toast. Much more linear of course, though with adequate flesh on the bones. Definite intensity. Drink from 2030-2036. |

WA 94-96 (8/2012): Henri Boillot’s 2011 Criots-Batard-Montrachet has all the grace of a ballerina. Intensely sweet, honeyed layers of perfumed fruit flow effortlessly across the palate. The Criots boasts gorgeous inner richness and fragrance, but no sense of heaviness at all. This is a dazzling effort. Anticipated maturity: 2014+. BH 93 (6/2013): This is notably riper than the Caillerets with overtly exotic dried yellow fruit, spice and floral aromas. There is Outstanding richness to the powerful and broad-shouldered flavors that possess a distinctly muscular mouth feel before culminating in an opulent, clean and very dry finish. This retains a fine sense of balance and while there is certainly fine complexity, it isn't at the same level as displayed by the other grands crus in the range. Drink 2019+. VM 91-93 (9/2012): Bright yellow-green. Aromas of pink grapefruit, herbs and peppery spices. Tightly wound and on the lean side, with good punch to the citrus flavors but distinctly lighter than the preceding premier crus from Puligny-Montrachet. Juicy for the vintage but a tad dry on the end. I don't find grand cru weight here. |

| VM 90-93 (9/2015): (these south-facing vines were picked first, on September 10): Pale, bright yellow. Musky ripe peach and noble herbs on the nose; this wine is actually the highest in volatile acidity of the range, but still a fairly low 0.4 grams per liter. Fat, sweet and large-scaled but without the precision of the Clos de la Mouchère. Finishes salty and a touch dry. While this isn't an elegant wine per se (Criots rarely is), it is more refined than it usually is. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! VM 91-94 (9/2016): (two-thirds new oak): Bright yellow. BH 93 (6/2020): Once again there is a discreet whiff of exotic fruit to the white peach, spiced tea and dried yellow fruit aromas where a background hint of viognier creeps in. The caressing and unusually sleek medium-bodied flavors possess fine volume and focused power on the caressing and refreshingly saline-inflected finish. This is particularly good in the context of a very hot and dry vintage which is not usually especially propitious for Criots. Drink 2028+. WA 94 (1/2020): Aromas of orange oil, honeycomb, ripe pears, wheat toast and paraffin wax introduce the 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, ample and textural wine that's fleshy and enveloping but underpinned by an impressively chalky structure that brings unusual tension and grip to this inherently generous terroir. |

VM 95-98 (9/2018): Pale yellow. Wonderfully delicate and discreet on the nose, hinting at lemon drop and minerals; Boillot says he's normally the first to harvest in Montrachet and this wine certainly conveys an early-picked aspect. Pure and silky on the palate and thicker than the Chevalier-Montrachet, but with terrific inner-mouth cut. Displays impeccable balance on the very suave, slowly rising finish. Can a wine be both understated and explosive? "Two thousand seventeen is a real fruit year," says Boillot, and in fact this citrussy, floral Montrachet is not yet showing the site's iodiney minerality. But that will come. Stephen Tanzer. WA 93-96 (1/2019): The 2017 Montrachet Grand Cru is among the most reserved wines in the cellar, unfurling in the glass with a reticent bouquet of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and light reduction that wasn't revealing its full range when I tasted it. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and concentrated, with broad shoulders and evident power, concluding with a stony finish, but the full extent of its quality is hard to read. |

| BH 97 (6/2021): (from Puligny fruit). Interestingly, here the nose resembles a grand cru Chablis with its oyster shell, iodine, quinine, lemon-lime and bee’s wax-scented nose. There is outstanding volume and concentration to the overtly powerful and muscular flavors that are supported by a citrus-tinged and markedly firm acid spine that also shapes the cuts-like-a-knife finale. As the length of my initial projected drinking window suggests, it would be pointless to open this beauty before it has at least a decade of aging as it should easily repay two of them. In sum, this is quite simply stunningly good. Drink 2039+. |

BH 98 (6/2026): (from Puligny fruit) A beautifully layered but highly restrained nose only grudgingly offers up its aromas of just sliced pear, apple, crushed fennel, wood, lemon and floral top notes. The tautly muscular and almost painfully intense large-scaled flavors are dense though they're not monsters of concentration before delivering simply unbelievable length on the compact, powerful and palate staining finish that just goes on and on. Young Montrachet is always deceptive, good ones anyway, because they reveal so little and this example is no different. With that said, the incredible upside potential in this is manifest. If you can find it, buy it, provided at least you're committed to at least a decade of keeping. Drink 2036+. Don't miss! JM 95-97 (10/2025): 1 x 350-litre new barrel. Glowing mid yellow. An amazing intensity for sure, in a riper register than the Bâtard. Starts with a sense of concentration which then builds into majesty. Stands outside even the beautiful wines earlier in the range. Notes of smoked hazelnut, poached pear and pretty acacia blossom scents introduce sleek, intense and beautifully delineated medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate on the clean, focused, balanced and beautifully long finale. This could use a bit more depth but overall, this is a first-rate Meursault villages. Drink 2026+. |

BH 89 (6/2024): A vague whiff of the exotic lurks in the background in the form of orange peel, pear compote and a hint of wet stone reduction. There is both excellent volume and density to the delicious middleweight flavors that exude evident minerality on the balanced, clean and dry finale. This lovely effort could use better depth but the underlying material suggests that should be no problem if given a few years in a cool cellar. Drink 2029+. Outstanding! VM 90-92 (1/2024): The 2022 Meursault is a rich, opulent white. Lemon confit, marzipan, spice and crushed rocks are all amplified. Clean mineral notes extend the finish while also providing a counterpoint to all the textural richness. The Meursault is a blend of parcels (including En Luraule, Petits Charrons, Casse-Têtes, Les Pelles), all estate, high up on the slope. The 25% new oak is nicely judged. Neal Martin. |

| JM 91-94 (10/2024): All domaine. En Luraules, Chevalières, Casse Têtes, Petits Charrons. Mid lemon yellow, not as immediately powerful as En Remilly, but more refined and then fleshes out on the second half of the plate, where it really impresses. A back loaded Meursault as it should be, yet with adequate minerals too. Very, very persistent. 20% new wood. Drink from 2028-2032. |

BH 90 (6/2026): (this is now from 100% domaine fruit in the vineyards of Petits Charrons, En Luraules, Chevalières, Casse Têtes and Les Pelles). Moderate wood sets off cool and airy aromas of green apple, acacia blossom, lemon-lime and crushed fennel. There is fine volume and punch to the utterly delicious middle weight flavors that possess solid mid-palate density while displaying excellent length on the bone-dry and zest-inflected finale. This is an excellent Meursault villages and worth a look. Drink 2031+. Outstanding! JM 88-91 (10/2025): Quite a full yellow. A firm bouquet, plenty of fruit but not the rounded style of old-fashioned Meursault. Fills out more on the palate, with greengage and citrus, lime and grapefruit. The usual Boillot intensity and length. Drink from 2028-2031. |

BH 92 (6/2024): There is a touch of post-bottling reduction present but I doubt it will last as the underlying fruit seems ripe. As one would expect from a classic example of Poruzots, there is excellent volume and power to the big bodied flavors that are at once dense and serious before culminating in a robust, muscular and impressively long finale. This won't wow you with its finesse but then again, that's not why one buys Poruzots. Drink 2030+. Outstanding! VM 92-94 (1/2024): The 2022 Meursault Les Poruzots 1er Cru marries fruit intensity with drive. It’s a combination that works so well here. Then again, that is a signature of this part of the vineyard. Crushed rocks, lemon peel, mint, white pepper and light tropical notes all come alive with some time in the glass. Neal Martin. |

| JM 90-92 (10/2024): From upper Porusots. A rich yellow with a green tint. This is oakier and even a bit heavy on the nose. Fuller white fruit on the palate, the colour and nose will be cleaned up before bottling. A touch of bacon fat. More complicated to taste today. Given Henri Boillot’s track record I would expect this to be sorted before bottling, and thus to rate higher than today’s verdict. Drink from 2029-2033. |

JM 93-96 (10/2025): Mid lemon colour. A clear cut chiselled white fruit nose with fine intensity. An electric backbone and without the four-square element of some Poruzots. Extremely fine and here I can see the 2014 suggestion. Drink from 2029-2034. BH 92 (6/2026): An even more floral-suffused nose reflects notes of green tea, mineral reduction and a more subtle touch of wood. The tautly muscular larger-scaled flavors retain a similarly sleek mouthfeel while exuding a discreet stoniness on the powerful and impressively persistent finish. Poruzots always ages well and this well-made effort is going to need up to a decade of it to reach its peak. Drink 2032+. Outstanding Top Value! |

BH 96 (1/2013): (from a .375 ha parcel situated by La Grande Rue.) A notably floral character adds breadth to the highly spiced and exceptionally fresh nose of cool red currant and plum. The rich, refined and admirably pure middle weight flavors are supported and shaped by ultra-fine tannins that coat the mouth on the incredibly long finish. Despite the underlying tension, this is essentially a wine of finesse and harmony that should also age for a very long time if desired. Brilliant and remarkably complex. Drink 2025+. VM 93-96 (2/2012): Deep, bright red. Lively aromas of raspberry, cherry, minerals, spices and game. Utterly silky on entry, then spreads out to saturate the entire palate with red fruits and spices. A step up in breadth and perfume from the Suchots, delivering an impression of weightlessness and impressive finesse. This round and sexy RSV is remarkably showy already, and finishes with captivating aromatic persistence. |

BH 91-94 (4/2012): A recalcitrant nose grudgingly offers up notes of cassis, plum, black cherry and floral nuances. There is a redoubtable size, weight and power to the overtly muscular flavors that are underpinned by excellent concentration and very firm but ripe tannins that impart a dusty texture to the explosively long finish. Like the Latricières, this seems to have everything that it needs except for first-rate complexity. My score assumes that this will arrive in time. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! VM 91-94 (2/2012): Bright dark red. Compelling nose offers raspberry, blueberry, clove, smoky minerality, coffee and mocha. Highly concentrated and vibrant, with a distinctly saline character leavening the wine's sweetness. The strong brown spice element carries through on the palate. Finishes very long but a bit youthfully brutal, with strong, almost tart acidity. This will need extended aging to come into harmony. |

Finishes long and powerful, with firm, granular tannins and lingering saline and licorice nuances." |

| BH 93 (4/2012): ( from a 4 ha parcel.) Noticeable though not overt wood influence sets off a very ripe nose composed of liqueur of plum, cassis and wild raspberry aromas. There is excellent richness to the round and relatively powerful medium weight flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that buffers the otherwise very firm, long and serious finish. This is also notably austere and extremely compact at present and as such it seems reasonably clear that it will not be a good candidate for early drinking. Drink 2020+. Don't miss! Outstanding! |

| BH 94 (4/2012): (from Domaine-owned fruit in two similarly sized parcels - one at the top and the other at the bottom of the slope.) This is really quite aromatically refined, indeed the expressive nose is highly perfumed and speaks of floral, plum and black cherry scents layered with a subtle earthiness. The sense of refinement continues onto the palate as the focused, intense and sleekly muscular flavors evidence good power on the balanced, long and only moderately austere finish. There is ample buffering sap, which is important as one would reasonably expect, this is a big and sleekly muscled wine with an explosively long, linear and overtly austere finish. This is a big wine with excellent volume as well as fine mid-palate concentration to the powerful, focused and intense flavors that deliver striking length but not nearly the same overall depth as the Clos de Vougeot. BH 91-93 (6/2012): A spicy, cool and ripe nose of wild raspberries, plum and red berry fruit liqueur aromas leads to highly energetic, detailed and refined medium-bodied flavors that possess fine depth and length on the mouth coating finish. This is quite good if not genuinely sensational. (Drink starting 2022). VM 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Echézeaux (from Combe d'Orveaux) is simply impeccable. Crushed flowers, spices and sweet red cherries are all woven together effortlessly in this sensual wine. The 2010 is all about finesse and elegance. Slight elements of fragility come through on the finish, but the vulnerable side of the wine is equally compelling. I look forward to tasting this once it is in bottle. There is an element of mystery and intrigue in the glass that in many ways sums up so much of what Burgundy is all about. (Drink between 2018-2030). Antonio Galloni. |

WA 97 (8/2013): The man with the bluest eyes in Burgundy, a.k.a. winemaker Sylvain Pitiot, told me that the 2010 Clos de Tart was picked almost a month later than the 2011 on 6 October with a yield hovering around 26 hectoliters per hectare and that the smallness of the berries meant that bunches were not compact. The bouquet is very seductive with introspective black fruit rather than red. The mineralite is tangible just below the surface, then a hint of oyster shell emerging with aeration. The palate has wonderful volume, coming over all fleshy and silky in the mouth thanks to the layered fresh strawberry and red cherry fruit. There is nigh perfectly judged acidity and a feminine finish that is totally entrancing. What a beautiful, feminine, refined Clos de Tart! Drink 2016-2030+ VM 95 (2/2019): The 2010 Clos de Tart Grand Cru vies with the 2005 and 2009 as the best wine Sylvain Pitiot made during his tenure. It was picked from September 28 to October 6 at just 21hl/ha with 13.6° alcohol (no La Forge de Tart produced). The detailed, extraordinarily pure bouquet displays impressive focus. If anything, this appears to have intensified on the nose in recent years, presenting a mixture of red and black fruit, forest floor and just a touch of girolles. The palate is very well balanced, grippier than I recall in 2015, and quite saline and masculine. The demonstrative, assertive finish needs a little more grace. To be honest, I have found this wine more praiseworthy in the past, although it remains an impressive and forthright Clos de Tart. Tasted at a private Clos de Tart dinner in London. Neal Martin. BH 94 (1/2013): A ripe but cool and highly complex nose of moderately wooded aromas of violets, cassis, black berry and anise hints. The superbly rich and velvety broad-shouldered flavors possess Outstanding size, weight and mid-palate concentration that coats the palate with dry extract and enrobes the firm tannic spine to the point where it is more of a background element than usual. There is excellent energy and precision to the dusty, pure and driving finish. This well-balanced effort should require between 15 and 18 years of cellar time to be at its best. Drink 2025+. |

VM 92-94 (2/2012): Good deep red-ruby. Black cherry, licorice and violet on the nose; smells deep. Very ripe and sweet, with firm spine to the flavors of black fruits and violet. The substantial sweet, fine tannins really melt into the finish. Conveys an almost chocolatey ripeness while maintaining excellent verve. BH 91-94 (4/2012): (from an enormous 4.8 ha parcel with vines ranging from 50 to 65 years of age). A beautifully layered nose of purple fruit, violets and soil tones leads to exceptionally rich, velvety and sappy medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the very firm but not hard tannic spine on the dusty and mocha-infused finish. This is a big but reasonably refined and well-balanced Epenots that is built for the long haul. Drink 2025+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

BH 96 (1/2013): An intensely floral nose features notes of rose petals and lavender along with cool red berry fruit liberally laced with wet stone nuances. The taut and muscular broad-scaled and concentrated flavors are precise, intense and explosively long on the focused and stunningly persistent finish that is youthfully austere and breathtakingly intense. This faultlessly well-balanced but very firm effort will require extended cellaring and 15 to 20 years is probably what the structure will require to completely resolve. Drink 2025+. VM 96+ (9/2014): The 2010 Clos de La Roche from Dujac is an infant, but it is also fabulous. All of the signatures are there; soaring aromatics, finely sculpted fruit and vibrant, pulsating tannins. What a privilege it is to drink the 2010 over several hours at dinner. An intensely perfumed, multi-dimensional Burgundy, the 2010 captures all of the potential I have seen in previous tastings. Ideally, the 2010 should be cellared for at least a handful of years, as it is built for a long life that will go out for several decades. Readers who own the 2010 should be thrilled. VM 95+ (3/2013): Good medium red. Pungent aromas and flavors of candied raspberry, flowers, stone and sandalwood show a liqueur-like ripeness. Extremely intense and packed with tangy fruit; in fact, wonderfully expressive and extroverted today for such a dense, even brawny wine. The superb rising finish features big but ripe tannins and great fruit persistence. Has all the elements to make a great and long-lived bottle. WA 93-95 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos de la Roche wafts from the glass with sweet scents of tobacco, crushed flowers and spices. Tasted after the Charmes, the Clos de la Roche comes across as decidedly feminine, but there is plenty of weightless energy being held back, at least that is the sense I get today. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. |

| BH 95-98 (1/2012): This is aromatically similar to the "regular" cuvee of the Clos de Bèze but not identical as it's slightly spicier and notably more restrained, indeed even backward. The big-bodied, opulent and exceptionally rich flavors enjoy huge depth of material that renders the firm and ripe tannins almost invisible at present though I expect that they will become much more prominent in time. This stunningly long and perfumed effort will require at least 20 years of cellar time before it can fully resolve its structure. Until then, lots of patience will be necessary for this 'wow' wine to arrive at its full maturity. Drink 2030+. |

BH 93-96 (1/2012): A very deeply pitched nose that displays fresh red and dark berry fruit and floral aromas along with notes of the sauvage that continue over to the serious and very solidly structured big-bodied flavors. This is an impressively scaled wine yet the supporting tannins are relatively fine though quite dense and as such, the overall impression is one of robust power even if it is refined in its delivery. This is going to require a long cellar stay but it should be magnificent when it finally emerges. (Drink starting 2028). VM 92-95 (1/2012): Good deep red. Reduced aromas of game and silex reminded me of a Corton grand cru. Fat and sweet but a bit monolithic today compared to the Latricieres, without quite the same impression of inner-palate energy of delineation. Best today on the very long, thick, unflagging finish. This very large-scaled wine still needs more elevage . Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 93 (4/2013): A fresh, pure and very cool nose offers up aromas of a variety of red berries, earth and a hint of the sauvage that is also reflected by the delicious, intense and broad-shouldered flavors. There is excellent volume but also plenty of underlying tension that imparts a real sense of verve to the long, balanced and highly complex finish. Despite the admirable size and weight this is a bit more refined than usual thanks to the relatively fine-grained tannins. Lovely stuff and well worth considering. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

| VM 93+ (3/2013): Good full red. Very subdued nose hints at redcurrant, spicy herbs and underbrush. Highly concentrated but youthfully tight, with a lightly saline quality to the complex flavors of blueberry, wild herbs, sandalwood and mocha. Just this side of thick but its superb balance of sweetness and acidity keeps it vibrant in the mouth. The long, ripely tannic finish features an exhilarating salty minerality. I may be underrating this. |

| BH 91-94 (4/2012): (the Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could keep the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15, 25 and 70 years of age). An exuberantly spicy, fresh and ripe nose speaks of red berry fruit liqueur, plum, anise and clove plus discreet mineral nuances. The powerful and sleekly muscular flavors are quite firm yet there is a certain generosity present that finesses any sense of toughness. Indeed this is relatively forward for a young Richebourg. While there is fine depth and length present, this strikes me as more of a very good rather than genuinely Outstanding vintage for this wine. Drink 2025+. |

BH 92-94 (1/2012): (from two separate parcels, one to the left of the Château and another situated to the right by the Meo-Camuzet vines; the 2010 was vinified with about 10% whole clusters). A very mild floral hint adds elegance to the ripe red berry fruit and distinctly earth-inflected nose. There is excellent richness to the impressively scaled and overtly powerful flavors that possess fine balance and focus on the lingering finish. Lovely juice with a bit less youthful austerity than I typically find with this wine. Drink 2022+ VM 92-94 (2/2012): Good bright red. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, coffee, mocha and violet on the nose, with a high note of blood orange. Then silky and dry in the mouth, with a wonderfully refined texture for a young Clos-Vougeot. Plenty of power here as well. Really spreads out to saturate the palate on the back end, finishing with a savory, subtle perfume and terrific tactile persistence. WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos de Vougeot is quite open and radiant at this stage. This is a totally gorgeous Clos de Vougeot that captures plenty of finesse with none of the austerity or angularity that can sometimes plague wines from this site. A pointed, mineral-drenched finish balances the wine beautifully. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030. |

VM 96+ (3/2013): (13.8% alcohol "with a bit of chaptalization," according to winemaker Charles Van Canneyt): Deep, full red. Very recent but pure nose eventually reveals scents of musky wild red fruits and smoky, stony minerality; a real essence of Burgundy. Deep and thick on the palate; dense with extract and utterly smooth too but with explosive energy suggesting that this wine will repay long aging. Finishes with Outstanding rising smoky persistence and powerful stony minerality. These 2010s, bottled in February of 2012, display extraordinary digestibility. Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (1/2013): (from vines that abut those of the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti in Richebourg proper.) Here the reduction is present also but at least there is some spiciness in evidence. There is excellent richness and muscle to the big-bodied and impressively vibrant medium weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a palate staining and magnificently long finish. There is power here but overall this is more a Riche of elegance than brawn. I very much like the potential but caution compels me to point out that the reduction is a concern though again with this wine it seems less like a permanent problem. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 96 (4/2013): This is consistently one of Jadot's finest wines and 2010 is no different, in fact it would appear to have even greater ultimate potential than the Musigny, which isn't always the case. The spicy, ripe and exceptionally complex nose of airy, pure and cool red currant, plum and stone aromas gracefully merges into the powerful but sophisticated medium-bodied flavors that possess seemingly buckets of dry extract that almost forcefully pushes the very firm tannic spine to the background on the markedly austere, compact and very tight finish. As intense and powerful as this is, the mouth feel is almost lilting and this is a classic example of a wine exhibiting what I call power without weight. In a word, stunning but note well my suggested optimal drinking window as this will not be for the impatient. Drink 2030+. |

There is excellent volume and plenty of mid-palate stuffing because while this is certainly a wine of finesse, it does not lack for character or seriously impressive persistence on the gorgeously balanced if distinctly austere finish. | BH 94 (4/2013): ( from 90+ year old vines that are worked by horse.) A notably floral and elegant nose of ripe yet high-toned aromas of essence of red pinot fruit combines with subtle spice, game and warm earth nuances. There is a velvety mouth feel yet good precision to the wonderfully rich flavors that possess a high level of phenolic maturity before terminating in a refined, pure and delicately balanced finish. BH 94 (1/2013): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 45 years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 20+ years of age; vinified with 100% whole clusters.) A highly expressive and very broad nose of superb aromatic complexity that includes earth, game, spice, red currant, plum, violets and a hint of the sauvage. The round and supple flavors possess outstanding detail and while the complexity doesn't quite match that of the exquisite nose, it's not far behind and this culminates in a beautifully balanced and harmonious finish that delivers striking persistence. I also had a chance to retaste the 2009 and it is bigger, richer and more powerful while the 2010 is much more of a wine of finesse and refinement. In a word, beautiful. Drink 2022+. VM 93+ (3/2013): Good bright, deep red. Very closed but pure and stylish nose hints at cherry liqueur and spices, with elements of mulch and pepper emerging with air. Dense, tactile and large-boned, but with its flesh somewhat suppressed today. Finishes saline, concentrated and thick, with substantial granular tannins. This needs at least six to eight more years in bottle to expand, and may well deserve an even higher score by 2020. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 94-96 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos de la Roche, on the other hand, emphasizes focus and linearity. The wine's length alone is remarkable. Sweet red cherries, dried roses, exotic spices, smoke and licorice are some of the many notes that are woven throughout this utterly compelling, complex Clos de La Roche. The gracious, weightless finish is strikingly beautiful. Antonio Galloni. BH 93-96 (4/2012): A fresh, cool and highly layered nose features notes of pure red pinot fruit, spice, earth, plum and game hints. There is the same superb richness to the suave and relatively supple middle weight flavors blessed with copious amounts of palate staining dry extract. The underpinning tannins are quite dense but both ripe and ultra-fine if not quite as fine as those of the Clos St. Denis. By contrast, there is even more power and even a bit more overall depth on the very firm, long and impeccably well-balanced finish. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 93-95 (4/2012): Reduction dominates the nose but here it seems evident that the fruit beneath the funk is quite ripe. There is excellent volume and richness to the big-bodied flavors that enjoy supporting structural elements that are also phenolically mature before terminating in an austere, powerful and impressively long finish. This is admirably pure and really quite fine, at least within the context of a youthful Clos de Vougeot, an appellation not known for finesse. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! |

| BH 92-94 (4/2012): from En Orveaux). A restrained, cool and attractively if subtly spiced nose of primarily black pinot fruit and plum aromas is followed by rich, refined and intensely mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that possess a plenitude of dry extract that imparts a sappy and seductive texture to the mouth feel. There is an admirable level of concentration and I like the lovely balance. This isn't quite as complex as the best here but this is indisputably of grand cru quality. Drink 2022+. |

VM 93+ (4/2013): Good deep medium red. Musky red cherry, smoky minerality and a medicinal nuance on the nose. Sweet, large-scaled and concentrated but without quite the class of the Boudots or Clos Vougeot. Powerful, medicinal and very backward, finishing with youthfully tough tannins and palate-staining salty and crushed stone flavors. Great potential here but I would not want to drink a bottle anytime soon. BH 92-95 (1/2012): This is slightly riper and decidedly more complex than either of its two Corton stable mates with a broad ranging nose of plum and dark berry fruit that is liberally laced with sauvage and earth notes. This is a big wine with rich and very concentrated large-bodied flavors where the supporting tannins are buried beneath an impressive reserve of dry extract, all wrapped in a long, deep and powerful finish. Along with the Echezeaux, this may be the most overlooked wine in the Meo portfolio which I find quite curious given how consistently it delivers. Drink: 2025+ WA 92-94 (2/2012): The 2010 Corton Clos Rognet is a bit richer, rounder and sweeter than the Perrieres. It fleshes out nicely in the glass with sweet dark red cherries, flowers, minerals and spices. This is a relatively delicate, feminine Rognets. The fruit gains considerable volume through the finish without ever losing its underlying minerality. This is first-class juice all the way. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. |

| BH 91-93 (1/2012): Here the nose is slightly riper and a bit spicier as well on the purple fruit nose where the nuances are stifled somewhat by the presence of noticeable if not dominant reduction. There is a seductive velvety texture to the exceptionally rich and full-bodied flavors that possess more volume but not the same minerality on the balanced, persistent and palate coating finish. A qualitative choice though the intrinsic character of these two wines is quite different. (Drink starting 2022). |

VM 96 (4/2013): Bright full, medium red. A real wake-up call on the nose, offering sappy black and red cherry fruit aromas complicated by crushed-rock minerality and notes of rose petal and violet; an essence of Burgundy. Then generous and dense but weightless on the palate, and less austere today than the Clos Vougeot and Corton Clos Rognets, showing salty, chewy flavors of cherry, stone, flowers and minerals and conveying a powerful impression of sappiness. Finishes with explosive palate-staining energy and captivating high-pitched perfume. A great vintage for this consistently Outstanding premier cru, and in need of 10 to 12 years of cellaring. These 2010s have it all. WA 94-96 (2/2012): The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Brulees boasts incredible finesse and inner perfume in its expressive dark red cherries, flowers, mint and spices. This is much more about sheer textural finesse and elegance than anything else. Layers of fruit continue to flesh out on the expressive, radiant finish. There was quite a bit of millerandage in this parcel. The Brulees has plenty of weight but no heaviness. This is a superb showing. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040. BH 93-95 (1/2012): There is enough reduction present to make it quite difficult to assess the nose though there is a wonderfully exotic quality to the inner mouth perfume emanating from the gorgeously opulent and mineral-driven flavors. I very much like the strong sense of underlying tension and while Meo's Brûlees can often be an overtly robust wine, the 2010 version is a really quite refined though make no mistake as there is good power and plenty of underlying muscle. In short, this is a stunner of a wine. Don't miss! Outstanding! Drink: 2025+ |

VM 92+ (3/2013): Very deep, bright red. Sappy black cherry, raspberry, cola and licorice on the nose, plus a whiff of animal fur. Big, deep and chocolatey, with serious depth of black cherry and dark berry fruit. The big Nuits-Saint-Georges tannins are sexed up by high-toned oak spices on the impressively long finish. Jacques-Frederic Mugnier punches down the cap late in the fermentation, when the juice is almost dry and the skins have softened, an approach that he believes results in a steadier uptake of sugar in his wines. Stephen Tanzer. BH 91 (6/2013): An all but invisible touch of wood sets off pretty and cool aromas of citrus rind, dried floral nuances and a hint of minerality. There is good richness and plenty of verve to the well-detailed middle weight flavors that possess a sappy mouth feel on the mouth coating and bone dry finish. This is really quite good and while not a wine of particular refinement, there is excellent character and persistence. I like this as it's refreshing, well-balanced and has plenty of depth to it. | BH 95-97 (4/2012): (the aggregate size of this holding is a whopping 3.4 ha and Ponsot is easily the largest holder in Clos de la Roche). In stark contrast to the expressiveness of the Clos St. Denis, this is almost mute and even aggressive swirling liberates only the briefest glimpses of wild red berries and earth notes. There is superb size and weight to the imposing and overtly muscular flavors that also enjoy an incredible amount of dry extract that confers a supple and seductively textured mouth feel to the highly concentrated mid-palate. The presently buried tannins are intense and markedly firm though not hard on the explosively long finish that seems to go on and on. This should be something very special if given sufficient time to reach its apogee. Drink 2032+. |

| BH 92-95 (1/2012): Deep ruby. A superbly multifaceted nose offers up nose of notably ripe black berry, plum and earth as well as hints of animale and underbrush. There is outstanding power to the very concentrated and serious large-scaled flavors that are underpinned by a dense layer of dry extract that does not completely buffer the exceptionally firm tannins as they too coat the mouth. This is an old school Clos de Vougeot that is positively Cistercian in its finishing austerity. I very much like this but I would only suggest purchasing it to those who have the forbearance to wait as this will definitely not be an early drinker. |

| VM 96+ (4/2013): Full, saturated medium ruby. Superb nuance and lift to the aromas of kirsch, violet, licorice pastille and crushed stone. Wonderfully sappy and alive in the mouth, with Outstanding energy and tension to its dark fruit, floral and minerals flavors. Conveys a powerful impression of dry extract, not to mention an exhilarating balance of sweetness and acidity. Noble tannins coat every square millimeter of the palate on the building, vibrant aftertaste. A great vintage for this consistently Outstanding bottling: this may yet merit an even higher score 12 or 15 years down the road. |

VM 93 (4/2013): Good bright, full red. Perfumed nose and palate offer very pure raspberry, smoke, minerals and sexy soil tones. Sweet, ripe and utterly suave, showing excellent concentration and intensity but also an exhilarating impression of weightlessness. Classic 2010 style, showing lovely refinement, a light touch, sweet tannins and terrific lingering perfume. BH 93 (1/2013): (From a 1.75 ha parcel of vines averaging 35 to 40 years of age). An ultra-fresh, cool, airy and admirably pure nose features crystal clear and transparent red pinot fruit and essence of stone. This is a bit firmer than the Combottes with even more evident minerality on the delicious, focused and beautifully well-delineated flavors that terminate in a precise, long, linear and palate staining finish. Terrific and worth a special search to find though be aware that this youthfully austere effort will required extended cellaring. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras comes across as delicate and finely knit in this vintage. The hard, firm tannins that are at times present are nowhere to be found. A beautifully expressive, knock-out bouquet melds into a finely knit fabric of red berries. The tannins feel like satin on the caressing finish. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. |

BH 92 (1/2013): I have never been a huge fan of this wine as I often find it to be somewhat coarse, and while always very good, I am rarely moved by it. However, in 2010, as was the case in 2009, this is much better than it usually is with a relatively perfumed nose that includes notes of earth along with the natural sauvage character of the vineyard. In fact there is even a certain elegance to the attractively layered airy and cool red berry liqueur aromas. There is good richness and fine volume to the moderately robust and muscular flavors that culminate in a balanced and linear finish that evidences mild austerity. I quite like this as the tannins are finer than usual and there is a real sense of harmony and completeness. Drink 2020+. Outstanding! VM 91+ (4/2013): Good bright, deep red. Briary dark berries, black cherry, menthol and a smoky nuance on the nose. Rich and quite ripe, with deep dark berry and smoke flavors perked up by mint and minerals. At once dense and agreeable for this cuvee. WA 90-92 (2/2012): The 2010 Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere is an explosive wine. Dark red cherries, freshly cut flowers, graphite and mint all take shape in the glass. The Clos de la Bussiere stands out for its energy, focus and length. Persistent saline notes add freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. |

| BH 90? (1/2013): Soft wood frames ripe and nuanced aromas of red and dark berry fruit, warm and pungent earth and a discreet hint of game. There is excellent mid-palate concentration and plenty of sap that imparts a velvety mouth feel to the muscular flavors that possess a distinct Gevrey style sauvage character that continues onto the long if mildly rustic finish where a touch of bitterness surfaces. The tannins seem sufficiently ripe so I suspect that the bitterness comes from the wood toast and thus it should dissipate in due time though I have put a question mark after the score for this reason. |

WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
