Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules |

BH 88-91 (4/2005): A wonderfully seductive nose of plum and spicy black cherry framed in obvious wood lead to very earthy, sweet and intense, gorgeously complex medium full flavors and excellent length. The overall impression is not as elegant as that of the Couchereaux but there is perhaps more depth of material here. A choice. Outstanding! Drink 2013+. VM 88+ (4/2006): Medium red. Nose shows an almost candied ripeness, with hints of licorice root and smoky oak. Densely packed, broad and dry, with notes of strawberry, underbrush and mushroom. This liqueur-like wine is still rather bound up, but I would like to have seen a bit more verve. |

Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot |

VM 92 (4/2001): Deep red. Superripe aromas of redcurrant, cocoa powder, mint and game. Tangy, crystallized red berry flavors offer a penetrating sweetness, but firm acids are currently keeping the wine quite tight. Impeccably balanced grand cru, with powerful extract, powerful structure and terrific grip. BH 89 (2/2001): Beautifully complex, spicy black fruit aromas introduce remarkably supple, medium weight flavors that display plenty of pinot sap and a wonderfully broad range of flavors. This is very intense and quite long with a clear sense of breed to it. This is very young with excellent potential and while this will probably never be a truly great Jadot Bèze, it should be a lovely wine in 10 years or so. Try from 2008+. |

Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot |

VM 96 (4/2009): Bright, full red. Vibrant but brooding nose shows a medicinal austerity to the pungent aromas of raspberry, flowers and botanical herbs. Penetrating, high-pitched and brilliantly delineated, with uncanny energy and lift to the red berry, floral and mineral flavors. This saturates every square millimeter of the palate, then explodes with perfume on the expanding aftertaste. The overall impression is of pure soil-driven energy in a rather uncompromising style, but when I drank the second half of my bottle two days later with food, it showed a deep cherry flavor and compelling sweetness. Splendid Clos de Beze. WA 95 (12/2009): The 2006 Chambertin Clos de Beze is in another league from Jadot's other 2006 vintage Chambertin grand crus, or for that matter any wines that went before it in that collection. A complex and classic Clos de Beze nose of rose petal, black raspberry, peat, licorice, dark chocolate, and smoked meats leads to a correspondingly multi-faceted palate of silken textural refinement, underlain by savory, saline minerality. In the best manner of the vintage, this marries soothing and invigoration, concentration and elegance, finishing with lift and refinement as well as riveting, vibratory interplay and extraordinary reach. It should be exciting to plug into a bottle of it anytime over the next 15 years, if not longer. BH 94 (4/2009): Here the nose is as reserved as the Latricières and only grudgingly gives up glimpses of the spicy and earthy red pinot fruit nose that is quite cool with obvious minerality, which continues onto the textured, intense and nervy big-bodied flavors that are textured and classy with highly sophisticated tannins on the long finish. Despite the reserved character of the nose, I was very pleasantly surprised at the relative accessibility this already displays due to the ample buffering sap yet make no mistake, the '06 Bèze will successfully age for years. A knockout that is noticeably better in-bottle than it originally showed from cask. Drink 2018+. |

| BH 92-94 (4/2009): An intensely spicy red berry fruit nose is expressive to the point of exuberance while introducing the hugely rich, full, intense and broad-shouldered flavors that possess real energy and drive on the sappy, mouth coating and stunningly long full-bodied flavors that display Outstanding depth. There is a serious amount of dry extract that makes this appear less structured than it is in reality. A most impressive effort that is less mineral-driven but a bit tighter than the Chambertin, at least at this early stage. Drink 2017+. |

VM 96+ (4/2012): Bright medium red. Knockout soil-driven nose combines red cherry, cocoa powder, brown spices, dried flowers, lavender and minerals. The palate offers compelling high-pitched flavors of red fruits and flowers complemented by strong saline soil tones. Conveys a powerful impression of extract without any fat. This youthfully imploded wine magically combines power and finesse, finishing with Outstanding sappiness and thrust. It was hard to scrape this off my palate--not that I tried. WA 95 (4/2012): The 2009 Chambertin-Clos de Beze is unusually open and seductive. It flows with extraordinary finesse and pure elegance. White floral notes, cassis and spices wrap around the palate, adding tons of nuance. The firm tannins don’t quite allow the fruit to be fully expressive, but all that is needed here is time. BH 93-95 (5/2011): A strikingly complex nose features an intense spiciness to the otherwise ripe, elegant and nuanced red berry liqueur aromas that are in keeping with the equally spicy and intense broad-shouldered and tautly muscular flavors, all wrapped in a mouth coating and very firm finish that delivers stunning persistence. I like the underlying sense of tension that adds vibrancy to the moderately austere and mineral-driven finale. This should be excellent in time. Drink 2024+. |

| |
| BH 96 (4/2013): This is consistently one of Jadot's finest wines and 2010 is no different, in fact it would appear to have even greater ultimate potential than the Musigny, which isn't always the case. The spicy, ripe and exceptionally complex nose of airy, pure and cool red currant, plum and stone aromas gracefully merges into the powerful but sophisticated medium-bodied flavors that possess seemingly buckets of dry extract that almost forcefully pushes the very firm tannic spine to the background on the markedly austere, compact and very tight finish. As intense and powerful as this is, the mouth feel is almost lilting and this is a classic example of a wine exhibiting what I call power without weight. In a word, stunning but note well my suggested optimal drinking window as this will not be for the impatient. Drink 2030+. |

| BH 94 (4/2025): There is ample spice influence, along with a hint of the sauvage, suffusing the ripe and very pretty aromas of mostly red berries and plum. There is impressive volume, richness and power to the acceptably concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that also conclude in a powerful, compact and decidedly serious finale that goes on and on. This precise and balanced effort does need to develop more depth though at this stage, that is not a concern. (Drink starting 2034). |

| BH 92 (4/2013): There is a discreet application of wood to the elegant, pure and lightly spiced nose of layered black raspberry and cassis nose that is also barely visible on the mineral-driven, intense and tension-filled medium-bodied flavors. There is excellent volume and plenty of mid-palate stuffing because while this is certainly a wine of finesse, it does not lack for character or seriously impressive persistence on the gorgeously balanced if distinctly austere finish. A wine of class and grace that will need plenty of cellar time as it has already begun to shut down. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

VM 96 (1/2018): Bright medium red. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of red cherry, raspberry, underbrush, rose petal and salty minerality; wonderfully subtle and complex. Silky on entry, then densely packed but weightless in the mid-palate, displaying outstanding inner-mouth spicy, floral lift to its intense red fruit and saline mineral flavors. A creamy, utterly seamless old-vines Chapelle with extremely refined tannins and inexorable subtle rising length. Outstanding--but will this wine shut down hard in bottle? Really captures the best qualities of the vintage without sacrificing its typicity. (Drink between 2026-2040) BH 94 (4/2018): This displays noticeable wood influence though here it's more in the form of menthol than toast though it's not so much as to materially impede the appreciation of the notably ripe red cherry and overtly floral-scented nose where ample hints of the sauvage and warm earth eventually appear. There is remarkably good concentration as the old vine sap is immediately evident whilst coating the palate and pushing the markedly firm tannic spine to the background on the powerful and intensely mineral-driven if noticeably warm finale. Despite the impressive size, weight and power this is actually more refined than usual but even so, it's going to require a very long snooze in an appropriately cool cellar. In sum, this is seriously good Chapelle. (Drink starting 2035). |

| VM 94 (3/2016): Medium red with a palish rim. Complex, soil-inflected aromas of red berries, rose petal, coffee, meat and musky underbrush. In the mouth, fine-grained raspberry, game and savory soil flavors are invigorated by notes of flowers, pepper and spices. Structured but without any hardness, this surprisingly accessible wine finishes with suave, nearly invisible tannins and a strong repeating raspberry flavor. With time in the glass, exotic notes of yellow peach and passion fruit emerged. This fascinating Clos de la Roche is less backward than some examples of this grand cru in 2013. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 92-94 (4/2017): Notes of wood and menthol combine with those of red currant, dark raspberry and plenty of earth and game scents. The velvety yet quite powerful big-bodied flavors also brim with sappy dry extract that pushes the otherwise notably firm tannic spine to the background on the built-to-age, balanced and wonderfully persistent finale. Drink 2032+. WA 92-94 (12/2016): The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a voluminous and extravagant bouquet with blooms of red berry fruit, although I found myself more drawn to the complex and intellectual Clos Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin. This is a masculine, assertive Clos de la Roche, quite saline in the mouth with a feisty, spicy finish. This is a fine grand cru from Louis Jadot, though not one of their top releases this vintage. VM 90-92 (1/2017): (a blend of purchased wine from two sources): Good full red. Aromas of cherry, herbs and oak show a youthfully medicinal quality. Powerful but a touch dry; this strikes me a bit energetically extracted at the expense of the vintage's potential silkiness. The medicinal menthol quality is complicated by notes of brown spices and earth, but the wine's primary fruit is very much in the background today. Finishes dry and imploded, with strong tannins. Not my favorite style of Clos de la Roche. Jadot has eight barrels of this wine, four made via a classic vinification, according to Barnier, and four using more modern, extractive techniques. Stephen Tanzer. |

BH 92-94 (4/2018): A broad-ranging nose is comprised by notes of earth, spice, plum, dark cherry, violet and more moderate though hardly subtle wood. The rich, round and impressively-scaled flavors possess fine density and evident power that carries over to the sappy and palate coating finish that is admirably persistent. This isn't quite as complex as the Bèze but there is excellent underlying material such that this should ultimately transform into an excellent CdlR. (Drink starting 2034). WA 93-95 (12/2017): The 2016 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru was showing a little more reduction on the nose compared to the Clos Saint-Denis, although I felt that there is more detail and complexity in situ. The palate is very refined with filigree tannin, great tension and focus, a gentle grip in the mouth with an almost tart, tensile finish that lingers in the mouth. I also appreciate the spiciness on the aftertaste. Superb. |

| BH 94 (4/2013): ( from 90+ year old vines that are worked by horse.) A notably floral and elegant nose of ripe yet high-toned aromas of essence of red pinot fruit combines with subtle spice, game and warm earth nuances. There is a velvety mouth feel yet good precision to the wonderfully rich flavors that possess a high level of phenolic maturity before terminating in a refined, pure and delicately balanced finish. An exercise in harmony and grace that should allow it to age brilliantly yet not be completely uncivilized if you wanted to try one young. In two words, absolutely stunning. Drink 2025+. |

WA 93-95 (8/1998): This saturated and dark colored wine, with its extraordinarily spicy nose of sweet red and black fruits, sent me soaring. This massive, intense, broad-shouldered, masculine, structured, and chewy wine is crammed with super-ripe, rich, and layered blackberries, cassis, licorice, earth, and Asian spices. As if that were not enough, its dense fruit comes roaring back after expectoration, lingering on the palate for nearly a minute. This is an extraordinary Clos Vougeot! Projected maturity: 2006-2014. Bravo! to Jacques Lardiere and Pierre-Henri Gagey. VM 91-94 (3/1998): Floral, black cherry and licorice aromas. Dense and muscular in the mouth, with intense flavors of dark berries and licorice. Not yet fleshy but very persistent-in fact, one of the longest '96s at this address. Should unfold slowly. Very impressive Clos Vougeot. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 94+ (2/2019): Bright medium red. Wonderfully pure, inviting nose combines strawberry, raspberry, rose petal, spices, white pepper and blood orange: I might have picked this essence of Burgundy as a Chambolle-Musigny! Plush, silky and fine-grained but tactile and substantial as well, boasting terrific energy for its vintage. (The vines benefited from the cooler temperatures and well-timed rainfall in August, which enable the wine to retain freshness, noted Frederic Barnier.) The wine's very primary red berry, spice and floral flavors display seductive sweetness but a strong element of saline minerality accentuates the overall dry impression. A great wine in the making, showing an almost peppery vibrancy today; I would not be surprised if this shut down in the bottle in the near future. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 94 (2/2019): Palish medium red with little or no amber at the rim. Wilder on the nose than the 2002, with aromas of raspberry, cedar and fresh blood complicated by leather and game nuances. Offers a superb combination of intensity and weight, with its fruit and saline mineral flavors energized by surprisingly fresh acidity and firming minerality. This densely packed midweight is still a bit youthfully imploded, finishing with a tannic firmness. Perhaps most impressive today for its slow-building, rising length, this soil-inflected wine does not narrow on the back half. (Drink between 2020-2039). Stephen Tanzer. BH 90 (3/2006): Beautifully detailed fruit that is quite feminine in character and remains very fresh and elegant while introducing rich, sappy and intense flavors displaying grand cru intensity, length and structure as well as a really lovely finishing minerality. There is solid if not terrific density here to go with a sweetness that comes from the thick pinot extract. I quite like this and while it presently lacks that "wow" factor, the balance is impeccable and it should gracefully age for a number of years to come; note that I have extended slightly my initial suggested drinking window. (Drink starting 2009). |

| WA 93-95 (1/2024): Regularly one of the standouts of the domaine range, the 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, smoke, spices and espresso roast. Full-bodied, broad and layered, with a rich core of fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it concludes with a pure and expansive finish. |

| BH 87 (7/2005): An intensely earthy and expressive nose complemented by a mix of primary and secondary pinot fruit, smoke, game and underbrush blends into rich, punchy and somewhat edgy medium full flavors underpinned by prominent if not aggressive tannins that possess a slight hint of greeness to them. This is sufficiently complex that it’s attractive but at this stage it requires food to buffer the structure and I would suggest drinking this up over the next decade as it’s hard to see the fruit outlasting the tannins. In sum, this is not a success but the normally very high standards this wine regularly achieves. |

WA 91-93 (8/1998): This wine is often of grand cru quality. Medium-to-dark ruby-colored and offering lovely aromas of roses, currants, and raspberries, this wine is admirably expressive yet introverted - it's made for the long haul. It is a feminine, highly-structured, and vibrant wine filled with super-sweet red and black fruits. This focused, defined, and classy offering also possesses an extraordinarily long finish. Projected maturity: 2004-2010. VM 91-94 (4/1998): Very saturated red-ruby. Bright, sweet black raspberry and cassis nose. Very sweet and intensely flavored, but bracing acidity gives the wine great dynamism and cut. Really explosive in the mouth. Very long, vibrant finish. Grand cru quality. |

VM 94 (5/2019): The 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru (magnum) is blessed with a beautiful bouquet of kirsch, wild strawberry, crushed stone and floral aromas, perhaps closer to the essence of Clos Saint-Jacques than the 2001. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip on the entry. There is fine weight and salinity in the mouth, and plenty of substance toward the sensual but utterly harmonious finish. This will probably benefit from another two or three years in bottle, and then those patient enough to cellar it will surely be rewarded with two decades of drinking pleasure. (Drink between 2021-2040). Neal Martin. BH 93 (5/2025): A notably pretty if ripe nose features notes of spicy and still relatively primary red berries spiked with hints of leather, humus and a whiff of the sauvage. The intense, dense and full-bodied flavors brim with sappy dry extract before culminating in a stony, palate coating and driving finish that is serious, firm and beautifully persistent. This robust effort remains youthful but not unapproachable and this most recent bottle was quite civilized and showing well.. In a word, impressive. (Drink starting 2030). |

| BH 93 (7/2011): The generous wood this displayed from barrel has now been completely asorbed which allows the ripe, elegant and airy mineral and underbrush-infused red berry fruit aromas to gracefully introduce the earthy and strongly mineral-driven middle weight flavors that are at once detailed yet suave, all wrapped in a driving finish that is utterly delicious. This is a seductive and surprisingly accessible effort that is intense, long and quite serious and despite the its seeming approachable demeanor, it will need plenty of time yet before it is completely ready. WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques has a very refined, you could almost say "mild-mannered" bouquet compared to the other Gevrey premier cru, with more mineral notes and more floral scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a sturdy and assertive entry: bold but ripe, supple tannin knitted with well-judged acidity that dovetail into a very focused finish. This is not as immediate as I believe the other Gevrey premier cru will be and will deserve several years in bottle. BH 91-94 (4/2015): Here there is a bit more wood with the associated traces of menthol that surround the elegant floral and like the Estournelles, airy essence of red berry fruit liqueur and spice suffused aromas. There is a sophisticated mouth feel to the appealingly textured, intense and focused middle weight flavors that also display plenty of minerality that serves to add lift to the structured, serious and strikingly long finish. This is indisputably terrific though interestingly it doesn't seem to have quite as much separation between it and the other Gevrey 1ers in the range as I typically find chez Jadot. Still, this should be a really lovely effort though note well that this is a CSJ for the patient. Drink 2027+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 90-93 (1/2015): (this fruit was harvested on October 10, following heavy rain on the 9th): Medium red. Lovely rose petal perfume dominates the nose. Juicy and pure but tight and youthfully unforgiving; showing less fat and volume than the Estournelles. Unless this is simply painfully backward, it's hard to imagine this wine ever delivering the satisfaction of the Estournelles. Stephen. Tanzer. |

JM 93 (9/2017): Medium deep red purple, oak and a touch of oxidation has slightly affected the nose, causing some stewed fruit. It also makes the wine a bit clumsy in the mouth, and there is a lot of oak, but there is also a sign of very high class fruit typical of the vineyard. So this sample is not working today but I suspect a really fine wine underneath. BH 91 (4/2017): An airy and markedly floral nose also reveals spicy notes of both red and dark currant, spice and plenty of earth character. There is good richness to the vibrant and overtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that retain fine delineation on the elegant, dusty and well-balanced finish. At present this seems to lack the mid-palate stuffing I'm used to seeing from the best vintages though I suspect that this will very likely fill out with time in bottle. In sum, 2014 appears to be a very good but not genuinely great vintage for this consistently excellent wine. Drink 2024+. |

WA 94+ (10/2018): Tasted blind, Jadot's 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques confirmed the seriousness it displayed earlier this year, unwinding with aeration to reveal a youthfully reserved bouquet of sweet red fruits, raw cocoa, rich soil and dried rose petal, framed by a judicious application of cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, reserved and concentrated, with fine-grained but firm structuring tannins, tangy acids and impressive length. This Clos Saint-Jacques is shutting down, so it's all about future potential, but its showing in this tasting suggested that when all is said and done, it may well be the Clos Saint-Jacques of the vintage. VM 94 (11/2018): The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques 1er Cru has a more tightly knit bouquet than Fourrier and Brunco Clair's own Clos St.-Jacques: very pure and focused, perhaps not quite as detailed and mineral-driven as the latter, but attractive all the same. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and impressive depth, and quite grippy at the moment, if not quite delivering the details and nuance or the same mineralité as the best Clos Saint-Jacques on the finish. Yet it is still a seriously fine wine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2021-2045). Neal Martin. |

VM 95 (10/2019): The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a very seductive, candied bouquet with pure blueberries and red cherry fruit under a veneer of vanillary new oak that seems in sync with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy ripe tannins, well-judged acidity, smooth in texture, but you might argue, missing the mineral tension on the finish compared to others. It is a very competent Clos Saint-Jacques albeit not the most memorable. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2024-2046). Neal Martin. WA 94 (4/2019): Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) is one of the most reticent wines in the Jadot portfolio this year, reluctantly unfurling in the glass with notes of red berries, rose petals, forest floor and cedary new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with a deep, multidimensional core, rich structuring tannins and bright acids, concluding with a notably long and expansive finish. While there is considerable upside here for the patient, this will demand significant bottle age. While the 2015 rendition is more flamboyant, the 2016 may well rival it in ultimate quality. |

WA 92-94+ (1/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) unfurls in the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of sweet red berries, coffee roast, raw cocoa, candied peel and cedary new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with an abundance of satiny structuring tannin, juicy acids and a long, pure finish. As usual, this will require some bottle age, but it's one of the high points of the collection. BH 91-94 (4/2019): Like several of the foregoing wines, the wood and menthol-infused nose is quite firmly reduced and basically unreadable today. Otherwise there is exceptionally good richness and volume to the concentrated flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a velvety mouth feel as well as buffers the notably firm tannic spine shaping the muscular and youthfully austere finale. This is presently not especially complex but the underlying material appears to be present such that the normal outstanding depth should gradually develop. Drink 2032+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 91-93 (1/2019): The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru clearly has the finest bouquet of seven wines that I tasted from the appellation by Jadot. It is very precise and focused, showing superb edginess and impressive terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is quite linear in style, the fruit just a little muted toward the finish, but there is fine structure and detail on this more masculine Clos Saint-Jacques than anticipated.Neal Martin.' |

BH 92-94 (4/2007): A slightly less elegant but equally complex nose of almost exclusively red berry fruit aromas nuanced by touches of earth, underbrush and a subtle hint of game precede round, rich and generous flavors underpinned by suave tannins and a velvety and dusty finish. At present the tannins are on the chewy side and like the Latricières, this will require a certain amount of patience. Drink 2017+. VM 88-91 (4/2007): (this is purchased wine, from a blend of old and young vines) Bright red-ruby. Spicy red cherry aroma with a floral topnote. Offers moderate stuffing but very good definition and lift, with a ripe chocolatey note. Has class but the finish shows a slight dryness and could be longer. |

BH 90-93 (5/2011): This is one of the few wines to display noticeable reduction and it's enough to knock down the nose though my score assumes that this will be corrected before it is bottled. There is good richness and vibrancy to the solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract though the palate impression of the finish is still quite firm, all wrapped in a backend that delivers excellent persistence. This is a bit more rough and tumble than one typically sees from a classic Griotte though it does not display any overt rusticity. Drink 2024+. VM 90-92 (5/2011): The 2009 Griotte-Chambertin is sweet, sensual and inviting. Deceptively medium in body, the wine shows plenty of density. Flowers, cinnamon and menthol emerge in the glass as this sensual wine flows through to the finish. There is just a hint of rusticity on the close; otherwise, this is a fine, generous Burgundy. | VM 92-95 (3/1998): Rather delicate aromas of crystallized berries, smoke and sandalwood. Velvety and very sweet in the mouth, with pungent oak spice and a firm mineral underpinning. Ripe acids are in harmony with the wine. Great concentration. No hard edges. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 94-96 (1/2020): The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru has a harmonious, powerful bouquet of layers of red berry fruit laced with crushed stone and pressed rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Hints of wild mint and star anise infuse the finish, which fans out gloriously. This is a step ahead of the Clos-de-Bèze this year. Neal Martin. BH 92-94 (4/2020): A deft touch of wood sets off brooding and deeply pitched aromas of cooler dark currant, violet and a hint of humus. There is excellent power and concentration to the sleek, intense and stony flavors that evidence obvious muscle that really comes up on the palate coating, austere and mineral-suffused finish. This robust effort is even slightly firmer and plenty of patience is recommended. Drink 2035+. |

VM 90-93 (3/2010): Deep ruby-red. Wild, superripe aromas of blackberry, pepper and spices, with an almost C ote-Rotie-like animal character. Sweet and lush but very primary, with a lot of smoky oak showing today. A rather powerful and serious young wine but not yet delineated. (The Latricieres-Chambertin was equally wild but very disorganized, and still showed a hint of malic acidity.) Stephen Tanzer. BH 89-92 (4/2010): An expressive and somewhat animale nose of red currant, black cherry, stone and plenty of underbrush nuances lead to rich, full and very serious medium weight plus flavors that possess fine power and impressive scale, all wrapped in a long if mildly dry finish that again, I attribute to the significant amounts of CO2. (Drink starting 2020). |

WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a deep and introspective bouquet with broody dark berry fruit, wild hedgerow and forest floor aromas that draw you in. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well judged acidity. This is linear at the moment, very nicely focused with a dash of white pepper on the finish livening things up. Very fine...but patience required. BH 91-94 (4/2015): Like the Charmes and the Griotte, Barnier said that this was not vinified by Jadot. There is a pretty and expressive nose of red currant, raspberry, wild cherry and soft sauvage hints where the latter continues onto the dense, serious and powerful big-bodied flavors that are also shaped by a very firm and slightly rustic finish that delivers excellent if not truly sensation persistence. I slightly prefer the Chapelle for its greater refinement but it's close qualitatively speaking. Note that this too will require plenty of patience. VM 90-92 (11/2014): Bright medium red. Lightly medicinal aromas of black cherry, licorice, menthol and smoke. Sweet on entry, then rather backward on the palate; has no shortage of salty stuffing but an impression of lowish acidity gives the brooding palate a slightly heavy quality. Tannins are reasonably ripe but this wine is a cipher today. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 91-94 (4/2012): This is also notably ripe with a pungent and highly expressive nose of cassis, menthol and wood toast where additional breadth is present in the form of wet stone and spices. The detailed and highly energetic middle weight flavors possess excellent definition and seem built on a base of firm minerality while terminating in a tension-filled, harmonious and highly persistent finish. | VM 89-91 (1/2019): The 2017 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots 1er Cru is cut from a more elegant cloth than usual. The bouquet is nicely defined, offering perfumed dark cherry, cranberry and orange blossom aromas. The palate is crisp and well-defined on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, and quite linear and correct – toward the finish, I begin missing the sensuality and voluptuousness that I expect from this Premier Cru. Hopefully it will gain some weight once in bottle. Neal Martin. |

| BH 92-95 (6/2019): (from Puligny fruit.) A less elegant and slightly more wood-influenced nose offers up restrained aromas of essence of white flowers that includes rose petal, lavender and acacia blossom as well as discreet citrus nuances. There is both more volume and richness to the large-scaled, intense and powerful flavors that evidence seriously good punch and power on the muscular and wonderfully long finish. This is an impressive built-to-age Bâtard. Drink 2029+. |

| VM 91 (10/2025): The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru does not have the mineralité or energy of Chartron's Folatières: more floral and actually more Meursault-like in style. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, lively with a touch of lemongrass and spiciness more pronounced than the Chartron, although it feels more forward and does not possess the same degree of sophistication or nuance. Still, it will drink well over the next decade, possibly more. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2026-2043). Neal Martin. |

| VM 92+ (3/2015): Medium red. Sexy, inviting aromas of redcurrant, minerals, smoke and rose petal. Juicy and fine-grained but youthfully imploded, with very good acidity giving this large-scaled wine excellent delineation. Finishes very long and sweet, with a boatload of powerful but ripe tannins. Offers superb potential but will require considerable patience. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 94 (4/2015): (from a huge 3.98 ha parcel.) Here too there is a touch of reduction that is again just enough to shave the top notes off the otherwise pure and elegant nose so I would also suggest decanting this if you're tempted to try a bottle young. There is very good phenolic maturity to the supporting and well-integrated structure that shapes the sleekly muscular medium weight plus flavors that exude a fine minerality on the seductively textured finish. This robust effort is clearly built for the very long haul and other than perhaps trying a bottle young just to understand what you have, this beauty is one to bury in the cellar and forget for a very long time. Drink 2027+. Outstanding! |

BH 92-94 (1/2014): (from vines next to the wall by Grands Echezeaux; 40% whole cluster) Relatively heavy reduction renders the nose unreadable. There is excellent richness, size, weight and power to the medium weight plus flavors that brim with mouth coating dry extract that buffers well the firm tannic spine on the strikingly long finish. This is austere but not really rustic and should amply reward mid to long-term cellaring. Drink 2027+. VM 91-93 (1/2014): (50% vendange entier): Bright medium red. Candied red cherry and redcurrant aromas are accented by pepper and fresh herbs. Juicy, spicy and bright, showing lovely cut and energy to the red fruit and mineral flavors. The youthfully firm tannins are a bit tough today but the finish displays attractive floral lift. |

VM 90-92 (1/2014): Bright, dark red. Vibrant aromas of red fruits and minerals, lifted by a piquant whiff of blood orange. Juicy, spicy and sharply delineated, with the blood orange note repeating on the palate. Finishes brisk and long, with firm tannins. I like this pristine, fruit-driven style. Stephen Tanzer. BH 89-91 (1/2014): Reduction renders the nose difficult to read but there is good freshness and verve to the rich, round and attractively textured middle weight flavors. There is good volume and plenty of tannin-buffering sap and while there is a hint of backend rusticity the overall impression is that this is finer than usual. Worth your attention. (Drink starting 2019). |

BH 88-91 (1/2014): This is more deeply pitched as it combines plenty of Vosne spice and floral notes with plum and dark currant scents. The energetic middle weight flavors possess a beguiling texture as the supporting tannins are well-integrated and notably ripe plus the dusty and mouth coating finish is well-balanced and solidly persistent. Drink 2018+. VM 87-89 (1/2014): (just racked and sulfured): Good deep red. Spices and flowers on the nose. Spicy on entry, then juicy and reticent in the middle, with cool element of menthol suggesting moderate ripeness. Still a bit closed but finishes with good length and tannic grip. |

Bourgogne Rouge |

WA 88-90 (6/2015): The 2012 Bourgogne comes from two parcels in “Les Pressonnier” and “Les Grand Champs” and sees no new oak. It has a captivating bouquet of brambly black fruit that is very well defined. The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit on the entry, nicely judged acidity and a natural, pastille-like finish. This is uncomplicated but astutely crafted, downright delicious Burgundy. VM 88-90 (1/2014): A great introduction to the vintage here, Bachelet's 2012 Bourgogne is endowed with superb depth and purity in its class. Red stone fruits, plums, spices, menthol and licorice inform this striking, expressive beauty. There is a surprising amount of structure for a Bourgogne. (Drink between 2014-2020). Antonio Galloni. BH 87-89 (1/2014): There is a gentle touch of wood to the spicy red and dark berry fruit aromas that convey a real sense of earth that carries over to the impressively rich and utterly delicious flavors that despite the obvious ripeness retain a fine sense of energy and freshness on the lingering finish. This is a really good Bourgogne and absolutely worth a look. (Drink starting 2016). |

VM 95+ (3/2015): Full medium red. Cool, aristocratic aromas of cherry, pepper, espresso and medicinal herbs complicated by notes of game, smoky minerals and crushed stone. Utterly seamless on the palate, showing an exotic fruit quality to the perfumed flavors of red berries and flowers. Boasts wonderful energy for 2012: this really glistens on the palate and on the rising back end. A wine of great definition and grip, finishing with noble, smooth tannins and superb sappy length. VM 94-96 (1/2014): A wine of endless layers of flavor, the 2012 Chambertin Clos de Bèze, wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and pure texture. Sweet tobacco, wild flowers, new leather and succulent red cherries all blossom on the close. The inclusion of 50% whole clusters gives the Bèze gorgeous aromatic lift that works as a counterpoint to some of the richer flavors. An exotic melange of blue and black-toned fruit, violets, spices and menthol all blossom on the finish. I very much like the intensity here. BH 91-94 (4/2014): There is plenty of floral character to the markedly spicy mix of very fresh red berry fruit liqueur aromas that are trimmed in a background application of oak. The cool, pure and restrained middle weight flavors exude a fine minerality that adds lift to the delicious, round and impressively long finish. I like the underlying material and while this is a good deal less complex than several wines in the range, my score offers the benefit of the doubt. Drink 2024+. WA 91-93 (12/2013): The 2012 Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru has a perfumed, floral bouquet with scents of black cherries, creme de cassis and minerals that is very attractive, even at this primal stage. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm, introspective opening and henceforth it never really goes out to entertain: broody and saturnine, piqued that it is being viewed so prematurely. Like the Mazis-Chambertin, it needs just a little more warmth of personality to filter through and indeed, returning to my sample after just three of four minutes aeration, there are some interesting spicy notes surfacing towards the finish. Give this grand cru five or six years in bottle. |

| BH 91 (1/2015): ( a 1 ha blend of Groseilles, Baudes, Noirots and Gruenchers, which interestingly are all bunched together, geographically speaking.) A similar if more elegant and more complex nose leads to cool, delicious and well-delineated middle weight flavors that possess excellent verve on the lightly mineral-inflected, balanced and dusty finish. This is very Chambolle in basic character yet more powerful than it usually is. This too is recommended. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! |

| BH 89 (4/2014): (from the 1er Le Clos Blanc.) An expressive nose blends notes of both red and dark berry fruit, earth, underbrush and game hints. There is good detail and verve to the middle weight flavors that possess the same saline component as the Caillerets before culminating in a delicious and intense finish. While this is not a true villages given the declassified 1er fruit, it definitely offers better than average quality for its declared level. Drink 2018+. Outstanding Top Value! |

VM 90 (3/2015): Bright, dark red. Sweet red berries, nutty oak and subtle soil tones on the nose. Fat, sweet and spicy, showing good fullness for village wine. Savory, serious Volnay with good vinosity and density and a saline complexity. Finishes with broad, building, ripe tannins and good savory persistence. Antonio Galloni. BH 88 (4/2014): (Entirely from 5 different 1ers). An earthy and distinctly ripe nose of cassis, plum and soft floral aromas gives way to equally earthy middle weight flavors where once again the supporting tannins are relatively fine-grained. The finale is firm without being rustic though there is enough youthful austerity to notice. This should reward mid-term cellaring. Drink 2018+. |

| VM 93-95 (1/2014): Violets, licorice, blueberries and graphite are some of the many notes that take shape in the 2012 Volnay Les Santenots. There is more than enough structure to support the fruit in a dramatic, large-scaled Burgundy that captures the essence of the year in its explosive personality. This intense, powerful Volnay need serious time in the cellar. A generous, beautifully resonant finish rounds things off. Antonio Galloni. |

BH 93 (4/2014): A lavish application of wood all but overwhelms the red currant, menthol, earth and pungent sauvage nuances. There is excellent punch to the large-scaled, intense and mineral-driven flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before terminating in a robust and moderately austere finish that delivers superb depth and seriously good length. This is an old school Corton and while not overtly rustic it's clear that this will require plenty of cellar time to arrive at its full apogee. In a word, excellent. Drink 2027+. VM 93 (3/2015): Medium red, a bit pale at the rim. Soil-inflected aromas of red fruits, potpourri spices, minerals, flowers and truffle. Plush, rich and fine-grained, showing terrific volume and breadth and a restrained sweetness to the flavors of red fruits, smoke and earth. This seamless, stylish wine boasts strong soil tones and an inviting, very smooth finish. A beauty--and perhaps deceptively accessible today. WA 90-92 (2/2014): The 2012 Le Corton Grand Cru comes from 2.4 hectares of vine on chalky soils. It has a very attractive bouquet with abundant red cherry and wild strawberry scents that are very well-defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, velvety smooth in the mouth with pure redcurrant and strawberry fruit. The oak is a little conspicuous at the moment (around 35% new) but it is very well assimilated on the finish. This is a well-crafted Corton. |

BH 89-91 (1/2014): This is also sufficiently reduced as to negate an evaluation of the fruit. By contrast there is clearly more volume and concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that exude a fine minerality on the balanced, palate coating and lingering finish that offers markedly better depth. (Drink starting 2018). VM 89-91 (1/2014): Dark red cherries, plums, spices and wild flowers are woven together in the 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes. This is an especially tense, energetic Mes Favorites built on perfume and freshness rather than the more intense style of years past. There is a lot to like here. (Drink between 2016-2027). Antonio Galloni. WA 85-87 (12/2013): The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes comes from the oldest vines around 70 years in age. It has a clean fresh bouquet with strawberry and raspberry scents laced with floral notes that should fill out by the time of bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red cherry and strawberry fruit on the entry. It is more harmonious than the nose on Burguet’s other cuvees, while the finish offers good structure if not quite the fireworks I was expecting. |

| BH 93-96 (1/2014): A strikingly spicy nose offers up notes composed of essence of red pinot fruit, black currant, violets and sandalwood. In much the same fashion as the En Orveaux this possesses an ultra-refined mouth feel as the shaping tannins are quite fine-grained that could not be more different compared to that of the Malconsorts yet this is perhaps even longer. Even at such a young state of development this is a remarkably harmonious wine of understated grace. Wow. Drink 2024+. |

A spicy nose offers a subtle step up in aromatic elegance with its very fresh nose of black raspberry and soft earth hints. There is Outstanding intensity to the firm and muscular middle weight flavors that exude a very fine minerality on the long, mouth coating and beautifully persistent finish. BH 92 (4/2015): This is quite ripe though it stops short of being surmature with its nose of plum liqueur, mocha, black cherry and earth aromas. There is exceptionally good richness to the very suave and succulent medium weight flavors that are supported by phenolically mature tannins on the mouth coating finish. This is a big and overtly powerful wine yet it's not especially rustic or austere. Drink 2024+. Outstanding! VM 90 (3/2015): (these 2012s were bottled in September of 2014): Good dark red. Wild, very ripe aromas of raspberry, dried flowers and wild herbs. Dark berry flavors display a juicy character along with a note of chocolatey ripeness. An outperformer for this cru, finishing with substantial but tasty tannins and lovely persistence. I underestimated this wine last year. WA 87-89 (12/2013): The 2012 Pommard 1er Cru Croix Noires has a feminine, quite elegant bouquet with scents of raspberry preserve, redcurrant jus and light mushroom scents. The palate is sweet and composed on the entry. There is a noticeable saline element to this Pommard that shows rigidity and structure towards the slightly clipped finish. |

| VM 92 (2/2019): Medium yellow. Very sexy scents of ripe stone fruits, minerals, clove and menthol, plus a suggestion of redcurrant and a Batard-like toasty nuance. Large-scaled, plush and powerful but also quite fine-grained, with salty minerality and a repeating menthol element carrying through to a palate-staining finish. There's lovely supporting acidity here for such a rich, ripe wine. A touch of sweetness gives this complex, chewy premier cru some early appeal but there's much more to come here. (I should note that my first bottle showed a deeper yellow color. It was sweet and silky but displayed more evolved notes of ripe apricot, marzipan and white chocolate, as well as a balsamic element, almost certainly due to a bad cork or cork seal. Veronique Drouhin admitted that her family had some cork problems in 2012.) Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 90 (1/2015): The reduction this displayed last year from barrel is still present even if there is less of it. There is good freshness and energy to the supple and well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins on the balanced finish where a trace of austerity is present. This possesses outstanding depth and length for its level and while the reduction is a concern my score assumes that it will ultimately dissipate with a few years of bottle age. Drink 2020+. VM 94 (4/2015): The 2012 Vosne-Romanee Aux Malconsorts is shaping up to be a real beauty. Dark, sensual and expressive, the 2012 is wonderfully open today, which is quite surprising. As always, Malconsorts is defined by a textural feel of nearly indescribable finesse. There is plenty of that in the 2012. BH 92-95 (1/2014): (from a 1.57 ha parcel.) Reduction. This is completely different from the Beaux Monts, particularly in terms of size and weight as there is real muscle to the impressively concentrated and ripe medium-bodied plus flavors that culminate in a hugely long finish that coats the palate with dry extract. The supporting tannins are also markedly firmer and it's clear that this will require around 15 years to completely realize its full, and considerable, potential yet it should be approachable after 10 years or so. In a word, impressive. Drink 2027+. Don't miss! Outstanding! |

BH 93-95 (1/2014): The quality of this wine has skyrocketed over the past few vintages; while it was always very good, it has now become one of the most consistent performers in the Faiveley portfolio. There is quite a bit of wood influence at present and it fights a bit with the spicy dark berry fruit aromas that exhibit plenty of earth and game character. The impressively scaled and concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess an opulent yet entirely serious mouth feel before culminating in a balanced, explosively and tremendously persistent finish. This is a bit woody today yet the underlying material is such that it seems all but evident that it will successfully integrate the oak in time. Drink 2032+. Don't miss! VM 93-96 (1/2014): Bright, deep red. Deep aromas of black cherry, crushed rock and graphite. Dense, sappy and energetic, offering Outstanding depth to its soil-driven black cherry and saline flavors. Delivers an uncanny combination of chewy texture and verve. Finishes with palate-staining length and lift, as tactile as a solid. A great vin de terroir for the cellar. |

WA 91 (6/2014): The 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Les Greves has a lifted, floral bouquet with cheeky scents of iodine and cassis, all with fine definition. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins that belie the fine structure underneath. The finish is persistent in the mouth with red currant and cranberry toward the finish. Very fine. Drink 2015-2022. BH 87-90 (4/2014): The expressive nose features notes of very fresh and airy red and dark currant with plenty of earth influence along with spice wisps. There is a very round and generous mouth feel to the almost lacy middle weight flavors that exude a very fine minerality on the slightly toasty finish that exhibits just enough sweetness to notice as well as good if not special depth and length. This is a refined Grèves that should also be accessible young if desired. Drink 2017+. |

WA 93-95 (12/2013): The 2012 Richebourg Grand Cru comes from the family’s 0.60-hectare parcel whose oldest vines are approaching retirement. It has a very refined, elegant bouquet that is actually more like a Romanee-Saint-Vivant at the moment. There are lovely scents of orange-blossom and quince emerging with time. The palate is well-balanced with a rounded, harmonious entry. It is silky smooth at the moment with a fine thread of acidity. It remains sedate, distant even but very sophisticated and the oak is very well assimilated towards the finish. Excellent. BH 91-94 (4/2014): (The Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could keep the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age.) In much the same fashion as the Pezerolles this is presently very toasty and it's enough where the wood pushes the spicy black pinot fruit to the background if not completely hides it. The supple and very round large-scaled flavors possess excellent concentration and an intense minerality on the powerful and moderately austere finish. My predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt in this case because the wood does not alter the texture or sweeten the finish and thus there is a good chance that this will ultimately harmonize. Drink 2024+. |

BH 91-93 (1/2014): This is also boisterously spicy with a full complement of Asian-style spice nuances that add plenty of breadth to the essence of black currant scents. There is exceptionally good richness to the full-bodied and very lush medium weight flavors that completely coat the palate with dry extract on the balanced and intense finish that is shaped by admirably fine-grained tannins. This opulent effort is lovely and should also be approachable young if desired. (Drink starting 2020). WA 91-93 (12/2013): The 2012 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Clos des Reas, Michel Gros’s famous monopole to the south of Vosne-Romanee village, has a complex, mineral driven bouquet with black rather than red fruit, touches of gingerbread and marmalade loitering with intent in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, fine tannins and good purity of fruit. It is harmonious and focused with a gentle build to what feels like a structured, saline finish reminiscent of the sea. This is a very fine Clos des Reas: one of the finest and perhaps overlooked premier crus of the appellation. |

| VM 94 (6/2024): The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaumonts 1er Cru is showing wonderfully now. There's much more fruit than expected with red plum and raspberry coulis, just a hint of sous-bois and excellent delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins and a keen line of acidity. The 2012 is harmonious with a gentle grip towards the lightly spiced finish that lingers in the mouth. Superb. VM 91 (11/2014): Bright medium red. Ripe, alluring aromas and flavors of wild strawberry, raspberry and earth. Sweet, fine-grained and enveloping, showing lovely energy and density and still holding its fruit in reserve. Finishes fresh and firm-edged, with full, fine-grained tannins and excellent length. (Drink between 2021-2031). Stephen Tanzer. BH 90? (1/2015): A spicy and notably ripe nose features aromas of dark pinot fruit, red currant, blood orange and an abundance of spice elements that include anise and sandalwood. There is an elegant mouth feel to the luscious and generously proportioned middle weight flavors that possess a velvety texture, all wrapped in a beautifully complex finish. If there is a concern though it's that this very firmly structured effort feels as though it may turn secondary relatively early in its evolution. As such I underscore my concern with a question mark because it will certainly require more than 8 years of bottle age to resolve the tannins yet the fruit may no longer be there. (Drink starting 2020). |

| VM 92-94 (1/2014): Layers of blue/purple fruit, violets, spices, menthol and new leather blossom in the 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers. Today, the 2012 is expressive and beautiful, with exceptional balance and a total sense of class. The Cazetiers is going to be virtually impossible to resist young, but it also has more than enough depth to develop nicely in bottle for many years. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 94-96 (1/2014): Dark shades of blue/blackish fruit grace the palate in Lafarge's 2012 Volnay Clos des Chenes. This is an unusually supple, resonant young Clos des Chenes. Whereas the Caillerets possesses energy from its tannin and minerality, the Clos des Chenes is round and virtually seamless in texture, with all of the structural elements seemingly folded into the fruit. The 2012 is perhaps a bit atypical in its richness, but it is a real stunner just the same. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 93-95 (1/2014): The 2012 Volnay Clos du Chateau des Ducs impresses for its pure texture. Silky, generous and enveloping, the 2012 flows with the essence of black cherries, plums, savory herbs and wild flowers, all finely-knit and impeccably balanced. This is one of the more polished wines in the range. Today, it is absolutely singing. Antonio Galloni. WA 90-92 (12/2013): The 2012 Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Chateau des Ducs is the 0.57-hectare monopole of Lafarge from an average of 80-year-old vines. Despite coaxing it remains stubbornly reticent on the nose, coquettishly revealing sea cave scents, perhaps a suggestion of what is to come with bottle age. The palate is more expressive with silky tannins, very pure red berry fruit, fine mineralite and a sophisticated, focused finish that lingers in the mouth. This has a wonderful weightless quality to it. Very classy. BH 88-91 (4/2014): (from 50+ year old vines; a monopole of the domaine.) This was quite firmly reduced but even so the underlying fruit does seem ripe. In the same fashion as the Mitans there is that beguiling sense of underlying tension to the beautifully well-delineated medium-bodied flavors that possess a refined mouth feel, all wrapped in a finish that is once again notably dry. Note that my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt. Drink 2019+. |

WA 93+ (10/2015): Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 La Grande Rue Grand Cru from Lamarche has a fabulous bouquet that gently unfurls in the glass: fine mineralite and tension, wonderful precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tensile tannin, crisp and poised, tightly wound and certainly needing several years to really show its mettle, but a great wine that is both understated yet intense. I'll be cautious now, but I would not be surprised to see this gain more favourable reviews in the future. BH 93 (1/2015): There is just enough wood to notice framing the red currant, black cherry and plum aromas that also display pretty floral and spice notes. There is fine concentration, power and punch to the refined and classy middle weight flavors that possess excellent intensity on the balanced, mouth coating, velvety and beautifully persistent finish. This too will need at least a decade plus of bottle age. Drink 2027+. |

VM 94-97 (1/2014): Good medium red. Vital, pungent nose combines raspberry, crushed redcurrant, cranberry, pomegranate and rose petal, accented by fresh herbs and white pepper. Juicy, sappy and pristine, with uncanny detail to the tart berry, exotic passion fruit, mineral and pepper flavors. Still a bit folded in on itself but the youthfully tight finish shows Outstanding precision and floral persistence. Stephen Tanzer. WA 94-96 (2/2014): The 2012 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru has a slap of strawberry jam on the nose that just needs a little more eloquence and sophistication. Perhaps that will develop during the remainder of its elevage, because the palate is very impressive: rounded, powerful and deep. There are copious raspberry and strawberry coulis flavors that defined the very persistent finish. I will give this the benefit of doubt. |

VM 93 (3/2015): Medium red. Come-hither nose offers scents of black raspberry, Asian spices, flowers, tobacco leaf and earth. Sweet, sappy and sharply delineated, with darker fruit and spice flavors enlivened by underlying minerality. In a rather masculine, gripping style, with a very long finish showing terrific mineral firmness and solid but harmonious tannins. Stephen Tanzer. WA 92-94 (2/2014): The 2012 Corton Perrieres Grand Cru has an engaging, slightly nutty bouquet that is reveals a floral component with aeration. The palate is taut and crisp with fine tannins, superb acidity and exuding great delineation on the finish. This is very classy and at the moment, out-performs the Corton Renards. |

| BH 94 (1/2015): (from a .6 ha parcel situated two-thirds in Cruots and the rest in Champs Traversin.) Interestingly this is the spiciest wine in the range outside of the La Romanee that combines with a really lovely panoply of red and blue fruit and floral scents. There is excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the fleshy and generous medium-bodied flavors that possess controlled power on the beautifully complex, balanced and long finish that is a bit less austere than that of the Reignots. This is also excellent and should drink well both young and fully mature. Drink 2027+. |

| BH 90-93 (1/2014): (From purchased fruit in Sentiers and Feusselottes and released under the Maison Virgile Lignier label, 60% whole cluster). A distinguished, elegant and beautifully layered nose offers up notes of rose petal, anise, clove and red cherries. There is a beguiling purity to the refined mouth feel to the delineated middle weight flavors thanks to the abundant dry extract and fine-grained tannins that mold the mineral-inflected finish. Like the Chenevery this is not super vibrant but the density of the mid-palate and overall persistence is most impressive. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

There is a hint of tea-like nuances to the floral, spice, earth and sauvage notes on the broad-ranging dark berry fruit scents. The punchy and intense big-bodied flavors possess a subtle touch of minerality as well as fine concentration, all wrapped in a linear and wonderfully long finish. This isn't quite as ripe or complex but the length is seriously impressive. Note that patience will be required. Drink 2027+. |

BH 91-93 (1/2014): Here the wood is more discreet if not invisible as it sets off the earthy and quite somber mix of red and dark currant, spice and distinctly sauvage nuances. There is good energy and precision to the focused, intense and overtly mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a saline, moderately austere and impressively persistent finish. (Drink starting 2024). VM 91-93 (1/2014): Medium red. Sexy, soil-driven aromas of red berries, flowers, earth and mint. Sweet, fine-grained and delicate, with a touch of herbs to the raspberry flavor. Not at all a fleshy style but prettier than usual for this wine, which tends to be severe in the early going. Finishes with very good length and cut. Stepehn Tanzer. |

| BH 94 (1/2015): (from old vines of an indeterminate age.) A markedly ripe yet fresh and cool nose offers up a beguiling array of spice, floral and stone elements that confer serious depth onto the red, blue and black pinot fruit aromas. The mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is also silky and mineral-driven and the palpable sense of refinement is enhanced by the super fine-grained tannins on the hugely long, firm and beautifully balanced finale. This stunningly good effort should drink well after only 6 to 8 years though it will need fully 12 to 15 to fully peak. Drink 2024+. Outstanding! |

BH 90-93 (1/2014): This is slightly riper with its black cherry liqueur-like aromas that are nuanced by hints of spice, sandalwood and anise. Here too there is a lovely sense of underlying tension and detail to the medium weight flavors that also evidence a subtle minerality on the notably longer and more complex finish. This is a relatively powerful vintage for this wine and I particularly like the sense of harmony and balance. (Drink starting 2020). WA 89-91 (12/2013): The 2021 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande wafts from the glass with aromas of blackberries and minty cassis mingled with notes of violet, lavender, pencil shavings and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and polished, it's beautifully seamless and complete, with a fleshy core of fruit, ripe acids and sweet, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the gently structured finish. This will offer a broad drinking window. It's one of the vintage's real successes, but it also represents only one-quarter of a "normal" production. |

| BH 94 (1/2015): (from a .16 ha parcel in Charmes proper of vines planted in 1885 that have never been pulled up though Roty points out that all those that have died over the years have been replanted.) A dense and serious nose displays notes of wood toast, black cherry, spice, earth, game and once again plenty of sauvage character. The toast is also present on the broad-shouldered middle weight plus flavors that abound with palate coating dry extract that also serves to buffer the markedly firm tannic spine on the powerful but not rustic finish where a mild hint of warmth is discernible. This is also noticeably muscular and will likewise require an extended stay in a cool cellar. Drink 2027+. |

VM 95+ (11/2014): Healthy deep red. Black raspberry, cherry pit, crushed stone and smoky minerals on the almost liqueur-like nose. Large-scaled, very ripe and palate-staining, with creamy flavors of bigarot cherry, coffee and sweet oak dominating. More classically 2012 in style than the tauter Clos Saint-Jacques, finishing with substantial ripe tannins and superb length. (Drink between 2027-2042). Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (4/2024): A highly spiced and exceptionally fresh, ripe and airy nose reflects a touch of maturity while mixing a wide variety of mostly red berry fruit aromas though there are background notes of plum, cassis, lavender and oak. The broad-shouldered flavors possess a seductive texture thanks to the copious amounts of dry extract that push the still moderately firm tannic spine to the background on the wonderfully long, balanced and lightly austere finale. I very much like the concentration here as well as the vibrancy and this is dry in the best sense of the term and make clear that this is still on the way up. With that said, it's not so far away from its apogee that opening a bottle now should be out of the question. In sum, this is excellent and should only improve from here.. Drink 2029+. WA 97 (10/2015): Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru has a scintillating, effervescent nose, the new oak beautifully interwoven into the complex red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate scents. There is wonderful definition here. The palate is very well balanced with well judged acidity that cuts a swathe through the structured red berry fruit. This is a serious Clos-de-Bèze reserved for long-term ageing. Quite brilliant. |

VM 94 (2/2026): The 2012 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a lovely bouquet with floral, rose petal and iris flower scents percolating through the ripe red fruit, superb delineation and focus, with hints of bay leaf and thyme in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, by no means powerful, though unequivocally tensile with a lightly spiced, quite tender finish. Impressive length and overall, a very commendable wine for the vintage. (Drink between 2026-2045). Neal Martin. BH 92 (11/2025): A maturing and beautifully elegant essence of red berry fruit suffused nose enjoys added breadth in the form of spice, earth and gentle floral nuances. I very much like the sense of freshness and vivacity to the medium weight plus flavors that possess fine detail and a hint of minerality that continues onto the silky and saline-inflected finish. At 13 years of age, this is not far from its apogee but another 2 to 5 years of keeping should see this understated effort at its best. Lovely. Tasted twice in the last year with consistent notes. Drink 2027+. |

VM 88-90 (1/2014): The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin is soft, silky and delicate on the palate. Sweet red berries, mint and floral notes meld together nicely in the glass. Today the 2012 is solid, if not quite the overachiever it can be. BH 87-90 (1/2014): (from 7 different vineyards located primarily in the dejection cone east of the village.)An elegant and pure nose features aromas of various wild red berries and plenty of earth and sauvage character. A restrained and cool mouth feel characterizes the lightly mineral and saline-inflected middle weight flavors that possess both good balance and delineation on the lingering finish. This will be approachable young if desired. Drink 2019+. WA 87-89 (12/2013): The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Village is a blend of seven parcels and from this year, two less than previous years since they have now been rented to other producers, reducing the village cru from 2.4ha to 1.8ha. It has a fresh bouquet with lifted raspberry and fresh strawberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet red cherry, quite candied fruit and a long licorice-tinged finish. Fine. |

BH 97 (1/2015): Discreet wood sets off a highly reserved and not quite as overtly ripe nose of dark berries, earth, and animale nuances that are trimmed in notes of spice, in particular anise, sandalwood and exotic tea scents. There is superbly good detail and focused power to the large-scaled flavors that also possess an Outstanding concentration of structure buffering dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the intensely mineral-driven and explosively long finish. This is a youthfully austere example of the genre that is presently quite compact and linear and thus will require at least a decade to flesh out and unwind but if you have the patience to wait it should be a great Chambertin in 20+ years. VM 97 (4/2015): Rousseau's 2012 Chambertin towers out of the glass. Sophisticated, finessed yet also powerful to the core, the 2012 Chambertin captures a compelling range of expressions. Crushed flowers, sweet red berries, mint, leather and cedar meld into a huge core of fruit in a dramatic, powerful Chambertin that will require considerable bottle age to show the full breadth of its potential. VM 96+ (3/2015): Healthy medium red. Reticent aromas of redcurrant, black cherry, raspberry and smoky minerality. Hugely concentrated and sweet, but in a distinctly cooler and less expressive style than the Clos de Bèze. Sappy, saline wine with an incredible whiplash of a finish that leaves the palate saturated. Showing more red fruits than black in the early going, this is still an infant. WA 96-98 (12/2013): The 2012 Chambertin Grand Cru has an ethereal bouquet with pure raspberry, wild strawberry, orange blossom, hints of iodine and a subtle marine influence. The oak is more integrated at this stage than the Clos de Beze: a multi-dimensional bouquet whose secrets will only be revealed with bottle age. The palate is medium-bodied with supremely fine tannins. There is a brooding intensity here – a sense of completeness and harmony that is entrancing. It is not a powerful Chambertin nor even a multidimensional one - at the moment. But it is an effortless Chambertin that will age 20-30 years with little problem, bewitching everywhere it goes. |

BH 94 (1/2015): This is beautifully elegant with its airy and cool yet markedly ripe nose of lavender, black raspberry, truffle and spiced plum scents. The sleek, well-delineated, intense and mineral-driven medium weight plus flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration before terminating in an attractively vibrant, harmonious and strikingly persistent finale. Lovely stuff that should age brilliantly well. Drink 2024+. WA 94-96 (12/2013): The 2012 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru comes from the domain’s monopole: populated by one-third vines aged around 30-years and the remainder around 65-years old (see December issue for more details.) This year it sees 20% new oak. It has wonderful delineation on the nose with heightened mineralite from the limestone soils. The palate is medium-bodied with a precise opening. There is a wave of pure, clinically defined fresh raspberry and wild strawberry notes that dovetails into quite a stern, very linear finish. This is uncompromising at the moment, an aloof yet compelling Ruchottes-Chambertin that does not quite possess the completeness of say, Mugneret-Gibourg’s, but clearly as the substance to age extremely well. VM 93 (3/2015): Bright medium red. Superripe aromas of black and purple fruits, violet and licorice, complicated by leather and game nuances. Highly concentrated, very ripe and palate-staining, with the black fruit and menthol flavors lifted by a note of violet. Finishes with a suggestion of chocolatey ripeness and Outstanding breadth. Perhaps not as classy as its 2013 sibling but surprisingly easy to taste today. |

WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
