VM 95 (5/2011): The 2008 Bonnes Mares is totally classy and elegant. It shows gorgeous inner liqueur-like sweetness, expressive aromatics and a rich, textured finish that is a marvel to behold. The sheer depth, density and incisiveness of the fruit is fabulous. Expressive floral notes round out the finish. This is very much an understated Bonnes Mares from de Vogüe. Antonio Galloni. WA 95 (5/2011): The 2008 Bonnes Mares is totally classy and elegant. It shows gorgeous inner liqueur-like sweetness, expressive aromatics and a rich, textured finish that is a marvel to behold. The sheer depth, density and incisiveness of the fruit is fabulous. Expressive floral notes round out the finish. This is very much an understated Bonnes Mares from de Vogue. Anticipated maturity: 2023-2048. BH 94 (1/2011): A more deeply pitched nose of cool and reserved red and black cherry aromas that are quite fresh and pure and are laced more with warm earth than stone though both are present. The focused and detailed broad-shouldered flavors are blessed with ample dry extract that cuts a bit of the austerity on the linear, serious, mouth coating and hugely long finish. As is often the case, this is still quite primary and will need plenty of time to unwind. Drink: 2023+ VM 93 (4/2011): Deep red. Briary raspberry, blueberry, mocha and menthol on the nose, lifted by peppery spices; a real essence of this grand cru. Then creamier and larger-scaled than the Chambolle premier cru, with the sweet berry fruit flavors enlivened by the peppery component and savory soil tones on the back. This really tickles the taste buds on the broad, firmly tannic, very long finish. Steph |

| BH 92 (1/2014): A strikingly well-layered nose displays notes of dark berry fruit, flowers, spice and earth scents. There is fine richness to the round and again quite voluminous middle weight plus flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in muscular finish that displays excellent persistence. This is relatively refined in the context of what is typically a robust appellation thanks to the very fine grain of the supporting structure. Drink 2026+. |

BH 94 (1/2017): (from a 2.67 ha parcel situated entirely in terres rouges soil in the south-west portion of the vineyard.) Deep ruby. A completely different aromatic profile is present with its much earthier array of notably fresh red berries and discreet sauvage aromas where a touch of elegance is provided by notes of violet and lilac. There is excellent richness to the muscular and full-bodied flavors that also possess fine mid-palate concentration that coats the mouth and helps to buffer the very firm tannic spine on the seamlessly proportioned finale. This very firmly structured effort is clearly going to require 15 to 20 years to arrive at its peak. Drink 2029+. VM 93+ (3/2017): Good dark red. Musky, soil-driven aromas of dark cherry, sappy pomegranate, wild herbs and brown spices. Densely packed and silky but with excellent definition and energy to its dark berry, menthol, dark chocolate and herb flavors. Much broader than the Chambolle 1er Cru but also less evolved. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and terrific length. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 92-94 (1/2019): The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a not dissimilar bouquet to the Les Amoureuses, though here there is slightly more red fruit and perhaps a heightened sense of Pinote. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grippy tannin, good backbone (as usual) and a saline influence that becomes more accentuated toward the fresh finish. This feels a little tight-lipped at the moment compared to others tasted from barrel, but it also feels persistent and, for want of a better word, enigmatic. Neal Martin. BH 91-94 (1/2019): (from a 2.67 ha parcel situated entirely in terres rouges soil in the south-west portion of the vineyard.) A very ripe yet agreeably fresh nose reflects notes of blue berry, plum liqueur and violet that are cut with spice and earth hints. The exceptionally rich and impressively full-bodied flavors evidence a taut muscularity, all wrapped in an overtly powerful and lingering finish that is naturally sweet. As one would reasonably expect this is quite firm but the 2017 version appears to be a bit less structured than it usually is. Drink 2029+. |

| BH 93-95 (1/2021): (from a 2.67 ha parcel situated entirely in terres rouges soil in the far southern portion of the vineyard.) A riper and more restrained nose requires some swirling to reveal its aromas of plum liqueur, blue berry, earth and a more restricted range of spice elements. The bigger and richer flavors possess an opulent richness and a velvety texture that coats the palate and enrobes the firmer tannic spine shaping the powerful, tautly muscular and strikingly persistent finale. This offers a completely different expression compared to the Amoureuses but one that is equally interesting. This too possesses superb development potential though patience definitely advised. Drink 2039+. Don't miss! |

BH 94 (1/2023): A slightly riper nose reflects the classic blue berry fruit of a fine Bonnes Mares along with hints of cassis, earth and violet. The sleek, intense and much more imposingly scaled flavors possess even better mid-palate concentration while delivering superb length on the saline-inflected and very firm finish which really fans out as it sits on the palate. This is a BM that I wouldn't even think about opening before it's at least a decade old. (Drink starting 2038). VM 91 (10/2024): The 2020 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a richer, more opulent nose, what feels like a later-picked wine, and consequently, it doesn't quite possess the delineation of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe black cherries and bilberry fruit. There is a sapidity here, though not as much as Vougeraie's Bonnes-Mares. And yet, it is well-defined with a slightly granular finish. There is a potentially excellent wine here; however, there is some oxidation. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin. |

JM 93-95 (11/2022): 50% whole bunch. A medium deep purple with a lovely perfume, some darker fruit, actually quite sensual. A middling weight of deep sensual fruit then a much livelier finish, some citrus notes, with a finish which is entirely in red fruit. Very persistent indeed. The de Vogüé holding is on the red Bonnes Mares soil with some depth, but the wine is lively and with a white pepper finish. Drink from 2028-2035. VM 92-94 (1/2023): The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, their only vineyard on the north side of Chambolle, includes around 50% whole bunches this year. The stems are discretely enmeshed, present, but allow the fruit and terroir to speak. I admire the freshness and joie-de-vivre here. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled tannins, vivid black cherry fruit laced with orange zest/blood orange towards its energetic finish. Bon vin. Neal Martin. BH 91-94 (1/2023): A much more deeply pitched and more floral-suffused nose speaks mostly of blue berries, anise and a subtle touch of earth. I very much like the seductive mid-palate texture of the vibrant medium weight flavors that display excellent depth and persistence on the youthfully austere bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. This is perhaps on the lighter side in the context of what is typical for Bonnes Mares, but it possess excellent flavor authority and fine length Drink 2033+. |

JM 97 (11/2023): In bottle. Made as three cuvees, then assembled. A rich mid purple with a deliciously heady bouquet, the sumptuous side of dark raspberry, perfumed yet precise, purple fruit with some redder layers beneath, a little white pepper spice, multiple layers of fruit, very engaging with just a very slight youthful bitterness. Irreproachable. BH 94 (1/2024): An even spicier and more floral-suffused nose is comprised mostly by blue pinot fruit and discreet earth wisps. The succulent, refined and vibrant medium-bodied flavors aren't especially concentrated though they do possess impressive power on the beautifully long and equally well-balanced finale. This is a wine that is certainly built to repay extended keeping but it's not so compact that it couldn't be reasonably approached after only 5 to 7 years. |

JM 89-91 (11/2022): The fruit comes from a large block of Les Porlottes plus the two 1ers crus, Baudes and Fuées. A fine bright mid purple, noticeably reductive. Very intense red fruit, strict up the front. Strict and lively, all in pure fresh red fruit. Promising. All destemmed. Drink from 2026-2032. BH 89-91 (1/2023): A perfumed and nicely spicy nose blends notes of red berries, plum and a touch of violet. The sleek, intense and well-detailed middleweight flavors exude a discreet bead of minerality on the refreshing, moderately austere and sufficiently firm finale to warrant up to a decade of keeping. This very pretty effort will likely be approachable after only 5 or so years of keeping. Drink 2029+. VM 88-90 (1/2023): The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Village comes mainly from a large parcel in Porlettes with 10% from Les Fuées and Baudes. This was co-fermented instead of blended at the end of the barrel maturation; that was the modus operandi under François Millet. It is the only cuvée that does not include whole clusters. It has a clean and precise bouquet with dark cherries, hints of iodine and iris flower. The palate is tensile and light, well focused with an understated, open blackberry and raspberry finish, a touch of black pepper on the aftertaste. Fine. Neal Martin. |

JM 93 (11/2023): In bottle since end October. Mostly from Les Porlottes, which is higher and cooler and the last to be picked, plus also the small holdings of 1ers crus Baudes and Fuées. A glowing purple with quite a dark centre. Fully ripe but not unduly heady dark raspberry fruit, with a fine concentration of fruit. Dark notes include bilberries but also an excellent mineral freshness. Fine length, a very fine example. BH 90 (1/2024): A ripe and attractively fresh nose combines notes of various dark berries and plum with those of violet and soft spice nuances. I very much like the sophisticated texture to the punchy and succulent middleweight flavors that exude evident minerality on the balanced, firm, chalky and lingering finish. Lovely and understated. Drink 2030+. |

BH 94 (5/2008): 94 at its best. I have had this wine many times and it has always been one of my favorite '91s. Unfortunately, a number of bottles tasted within the last 3 years were already on the decline, having lost that wonderful velvety quality that I once so much admired. While not unpleasant, it's clear that these bottles are not what they should be as there is a toastiness that comes up on the finish and renders it ever so slightly bitter. However, a bottle tasted in Los Angeles that was air freighted from the Domaine only 3 weeks prior was simply Outstanding with a wonderful nose of exotic spices and subtle yet seductive game and smoky hints followed by rich, warm and pure flavors of superb depth and length with plenty of finishing velvet. As the note suggests, I have encountered significant bottle variation with scores ranging from 87 to 94. Drink now. WA 93 (12/1993): Wealthy collectors should not miss the opportunity to see whether the 1991 equals or surpasses the 1990 Musigny-Vieilles Vignes made at the Comte de Vogue. The saturated, dense purple color is magnificent. The big, yet unformed bouquet of framboise, cassis, vanillin, and minerals suggests the wine is loaded. It is. Powerful, rich, concentrated, and marvelously clean and pure, this irrefutably impressively endowed, large-scaled red burgundy exhibits a Medoc-like austerity and structure, as well as a squeaky clean, international style. It will be interesting to see what develops over the next 15-20 years. Do not drink it before the turn of the century; it should last an uncommonly long time for modern day burgundy. Very impressive! |

VM 97 (3/2018): (tasted from a 375-milliter bottle): Very bright red with ruby tones; looks like a young wine. Deep, dark red and black fruit aromas are complicated by cinnamon, black pepper, roast coffee and a hint of truffley underbrush. Wonderfully rich but classy and reserved, and not a bit heavy. Utterly silky, plush, energetic wine with a relaxed quality to its lively dark fruit and dark chocolate flavors. Finishes classically dry, with beautifully buffered tannins and captivating building sweetness. Amazingly, this 375-milliliter bottle seems still short of its peak, so I would imagine that well-stored 750s still need time. I'd guess 2022-2042 for 750s. Stephen Tanzer. BH 94 (1/2002): In contrast to the general style of the vintage, this is aromatically austere though with coaxing, reveals wonderfully complex aromas of a simply incredible array of black fruits, earth, spice, crushed herbs and notes of chocolate with flavors that are huge but fine, powerful but subtle and rich yet detailed with a stupendously long finish that offers intense minerality. This is genuinely stunning juice and not to be missed. Drink 2010-2025. |

BH 93 (10/2005): Extravagant, very ripe spice aromas explode from the glass with remarkable complexity that frame superbly elegant, gorgeously textured flavors that are intense and vibrant. This is really quite powerful for the vintage and incredibly long yet remains classy and fine. It is not especially big or dense as de Vogüe Musigny goes but is tautly muscular and defined. Extremely impressive for the vintage. Drink 2010+. WA 93 (6/2003): There is an enthralling sappy richness to the floral and blackberry-scented 2000 Musigny. Supremely elegant, it is not quite as dense as the 2001 yet reveals Outstanding depth, purity, and concentration. Lush, stony red and black fruits are interspersed with violets and tangy raspberries in its exceptionally long, expressive, plump character. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012. VM 92+ (4/2003): Saturated dark red. Deep, nuanced nose combines dark fruits, minerals and underbrush. Sweet and highly concentrated but tight and backward, even a bit sullen today; fruit and stone flavors are quite primary for the vintage. Finishes with substantial broad tannins and very good grip. May ultimately merit an even higher rating. |

BH 96 (1/2007): This is also very cool and even more reserved at present, revealing only reluctant glimpses of very ripe and ultra spicy red and black berry fruit notes that are very pinot in character. The rich, full and powerful flavors are sweet, supple and utterly classy and the intensity this wine displays is seriously impressive and the superbly long and strikingly precise finish is crystalline in its purity and exactness. There is a rigorous element here that suggests this will require the better part of 15 years to be at its best but when it gets there, this is going to be a thrill ride. Readers know that I am not given to undue hyperbole but I love this style of wine as it's at once pure, understated, graceful and utterly composed. Drink 2019+. VM 95+ (4/2007): Good deep red. Ineffable aromas of raspberry, crushed stone and flowers. Like liquid silk on entry, then quite tightly wound in the middle, offering great purity and nerve but hiding more than it's showing in the way of flavor today. This has a nearly frightful intensity and superb stony persistence. Due to hail in late August, the yield here was just 20 hectoliters per hectare, compared to 25 in 2005, according to Millet. A highlight of the vintage. When I asked Millet to compare his 2004s to his 2001s, he told me that the acidity in the spine of the 2004s is barely tasteable, as the minerality of the wine dominates. "In comparison, the 2001s are gaining in sensuality and elegance," he said. "But their fresh fruit flavors are still fighting their acidity." |

BH 99 (1/2008): Prepare to be transported. A positively brilliant nose of violet and rose petal shines against a background of intensely spiced extravagant red and black pinot fruit nuanced by hints of earth and stone and this minerality continues onto the surprisingly supple flavors that convey a remarkable sense of energy and power on the almost unbelievably intense, focused and structured finish that seems to go on and on without end. And the '05 VV has what all truly great burgundies have which is that extra dimension of power without weight as this carries terrific punch and power yet delivers that explosiveness with impeccable class and grace. While I am duly mindful of the many legendary wines this domaine has produced (see the database for all vintages reviewed dating to 1919), the 2005 could very well join the list of the all time greats, there is really that much potential here. Whether it will ultimately transcend the heights achieved by the 1919 or the 1949 (among many others) remains an open question, I have zero doubt that 2005 will be a genuinely great vintage for this wine. Brilliance personified and absolutely a 'wow' wine, in fact, this merits a double 'wow'. WA 96-98 (4/2007): My notes on the 2005 Musigny Vieilles Vignes represent a composite impression from a selection of barrels. There can be little question that this deep, dark wine displays its class of origin, indeed a class of its own in this year’s collection. Fresh black raspberry, pomegranate, blackberry, and iris dominate the nose and stain the palate. A wealth of spice, mineral, chalky and bitter-sweet floral nuances persistently wreath the fruit at all stages. This shows lovely creaminess of texture in counterpoint to the persistent freshness of fruit. The intensely rich yet refreshing palate saturation and tenacious cling exhibited auger well for extended cellaring yet don’t detract from an impression of utmost elegance and refinement. The domaine will begin bottling the wines in spring and all will, as usual, receive “the minimum, gentlest possible" filtration. Francois Millet notes that skin-to-juice ratios this year were as formidably high as those of 2003, yet thanks to relatively mild temperatures, the fruit retained what he terms a “sorbet-like presentation." |

WA 97 (4/2012): The 2009 Musigny Vieilles Vignes fleshes out beautifully with endless layers of fruit that caress the palate in stunning style. Sweet floral notes meld into expressive dark red fruit in this mysterious, evocative Burgundy. There is a weightless intensity to the Musigny that is achingly gorgeous. BH 96 (1/2012): A fantastically complex nose offers up aromas of rose petals, violets, mint, cassis, black berry and a plethora of spice nuances that continue onto the intense and remarkably powerful imposingly constructed flavors that are blessed with buckets of dry extract that render the presently rigid tannic spine almost invisible on the impeccably and palate staining finish that seems to persist without end. As was the case from cask, I could still taste this several hours later and if given sufficient cellar time, this should be a very fine vintage for this storied wine. Drink 2029+. VM 95+ (4/2012): Good bright, deep red. Raspberry liqueur, crushed rock and vanillin oak on the suave, subdued nose; shows the greatest lift of these 2009s. Superconcentrated and creamy but light on its feet, displaying terrific energy and sappiness for 2009. Gained in verve with aeration, with high-pitched, tangy flavors of raspberry, pomegranate, flowers and minerals spreading out to saturate the mouth. With its finishing perfume and taste of limestone, this really transcends the vintage. |

VM 95+ (4/2014): Deep, dark red. An elixir of dark berries on the nose, with complicating notes of crushed stone, menthol and flowers. Thick but weightless and youthfully imploded, with an element of spicy acidity giving Outstanding cut and primary character to the blackberry and blueberry fruit flavors. Finishes dense and strong, with powerful tannic support and late hints of espresso and bitter chocolate. Fully ripe in the context of the vintage, and built for an extended evolution in bottle. BH 94 (1/2014): A remarkably attractively cool and restrained nose of various red berries, spice and a beautiful array of floral elements complements well the rich and equally cool mineral-tinged big-bodied and overtly muscular flavors. There is a really lovely sense of underlying tension on the clean and pure finish that delivers strikingly good length. This intensely mineral-driven effort is also clean and firm but with slightly better phenolic maturity to the supporting structural elements which should allow this beauty to age successfully for many years to come. Drink 2029+. WA 92 (8/2013): The 2011 Musigny Vieille Vignes Grand Cru was picked around mid-harvest during the first week of September. It has a more floral bouquet compared to the Bonnes-Mares with scents of dried rose petals and a touch of violet infusing the dark cherry and pomegranate fruit profile. The palate is supple in texture, lithe in the mouth with fine tannins, much more feminine than the Bonnes-Mares (usually I find it the other way round.) The mouth is tingling with salted licorice and white pepper on the aftertaste. Impressive for sure, but I need it to show a bit of soul. Drink 2015-2025. |

VM 96+ (3/2016): Very dark bright red. Great purity and lift to the aromas of black cherry, violet, graphite, bitter chocolate and minerals. Showing less obvious density today than the Bonnes-Mares but this is extremely tight and unevolved, with its saline crushed stone and mineral elements currently dominating its underlying fruit. The yield was just 20 hectoliters per hectare, due in large part to millerandage, but this extremely imploded Musigny is showing little of the early sweetness one might expect from tiny berries. Finishes with outstanding flavor authority, length and grip. This wine should go on for decades. Stephen Tanzer. BH 96 (1/2016): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha parcel planted to chardonnay.) This is also quite aromatically restrained with its cool, airy and extraordinarily complex nose that features notes of red raspberry, black cherry, violet, rose petal, Asian-style spices, in particular cinnamon and anise plus a hint of orange pekoe tea. There is superb concentration to the intensely stony and well-delineated broad-shouldered flavors that also brim with palate soaking dry extract that helps to buffer that imposingly powerful, tautly muscular and massively long and youthfully austere finish. This is breathtaking in just how much power and intensity it packs yet there isn't a hair out of place. In a word, 'wow'! Drink 2033+. |

VM 95+ (3/2017): Bright, dark red. Knockout nose offers most of the Musigny food groups: raspberry, cherry, earth, wild herbs, flowers and minerals, plus a leathery nuance. Pungent and extremely intense but utterly weightless owing to its near-perfect balance of sweetness and juiciness. Best today on the explosive, building back end, which offers a powerfully chewy, sappy impression but no rough edges. Winemaker François Millet suggests waiting at least 10 to 15 years. Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (1/2017): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha parcel planted to chardonnay.) While highly complex this is cool to the point of only grudgingly revealing a strikingly layered combination of violets, rose petals, sandalwood, anise, clove, plum and dark currant scents. This is a big and overtly muscular wine with broad-shouldered and admirably concentrated flavors yet for all of the impressive size, weight and volume, the massively long finish is serene, even Zen-like. 2014 is a relatively seductive and forward vintage for this storied wine, and I appreciate that calling a wine "forward" when it will likely need 20 years to fully mature is a relative concept! BH 95-98 (1/2017): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha parcel planted to chardonnay.) Like the Amoureuses this too is kaleidoscopically spicy with its broad-ranging nose of red cherry, cassis, plum, violet, Asian-style tea, sandalwood and hoisin. The velvety and mouth coating imposingly-scaled and intense mineral-driven flavors are also blessed with seemingly endless reserves of dry extract that coat the palate on the highly seductive finish that delivers fantastically good length on the youthfully austere, backward and immaculately well-balanced finale. This too is going to require a very long snooze in a very cool cellar but it should be a remarkable Musigny when it emerges. Drink 2035+. Don't miss! VM 94-97 (1/2017): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and bitter chocolate are lifted by the most pungent minerality of this range. Combines compelling sweetness and density, but with a finesse of texture that gives this wine an improbably light touch. Remarkably dense but reserved wine, with purple berry liqueur and mineral flavors conveying terrific lift. Easily the best of these 2015s, finishing with a juicy whiplash of flavor. Here the tannins arrive very late and are perfectly integrated with the wine's fruit and soil elements. Still, this vibrant wine is extremely backward and unevolved in the early going and will require long aging. Winemaker François Millet expects to do a very light fining at the bottling. Stephen Tanzer. WA 95-97 (12/2016): The 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is initially more introspective compared to the Bonnes-Mares. Predominantly black fruit here with blueberry developing in the glass, there is a slight earthiness in character that shimmies towards floral scents as it opens. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin and more salinity than then Bonnes Mares or the Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses. It feels crunchy and fresh in the mouth with plenty of blueberry and blackberry towards the long and persistent finish. This is an Outstanding Musigny Vieilles Vignes of substance that will age over 30-40 years. |

VM 94-96 (1/2019): The 2017 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a very expressive, complex bouquet, the melange of red, blue and black fruit making it difficult to identify a single dominant color. Blueberry, wild strawberry and black currant intermingle, and hints of sea spray and touches of orange blossom develop with time. The harmonious, silky palate is almost like a Romanee-Saint-Vivant in texture, offering great depth and an energetic, peppery finish that lingers long in the mouth. A divine Musigny that will deserve some bottle age. Neal Martin. BH 93-96 (1/2019): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha section planted to chardonnay.) An openly exotic nose offers glimpses of black cherry liqueur, ginger, Asian-style tea, sandalwood and orange peel. The tighter and much more mineral-driven big-bodied flavors also possess evident muscle on the powerful and dense yet beautifully refined finish that goes on and on. This is also a bit less structured though with that said, this is going to need at least 15 years to reach its apogee. In a word, terrific. Drink 2032+. Don't miss! |

BH 97 (1/2021): A ripe and super-fresh nose offers up notes of black raspberry, plum liqueur, Asian-style tea and a whiff of incense. The racy, intense and mineral-driven big-bodied flavors retain outstanding delineation as well as an abundance of palate soaking dry extract before delivering stunningly good length where an interesting hint of citrus character in the form of mandarin orange appears. This incredibly powerful effort is both classy and highly complex and like the Bonnes Mares, is a wine that will live for decades. With that said, it's not so backward and compact to preclude it being approachable after only 10 to 12 years. A knockout by any standard. VM 92 (11/2022): The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru is bold and assertive on the nose with darker fruit than Mugnier's Musigny: dense and focused, fine delineation yet just missing the little complexity. The palate is framed by thickset, bold and saturated tannins, a mixture of red and blue fruit, grippy and assertive. There is a heaviness in this Musigny not apparent in three others tasted alongside, a bit burly and demonstrative. But you have to ask, where is the charm. | BH 95-98 (1/2022): (from an incredible 6.46 ha parcel, which doesn't include the .67 ha section planted to chardonnay.) As is often the case, this is aromatically similar to the Chambolle 1er but it's less expressive and perhaps more densely fruited. There is notably better mid-palate concentration to the substantially sized big-bodied flavors that also possess a positively gorgeous mouthfeel while exuding an abundance of mineral character on the hugely long and impeccably well-balanced and youthfully austere finale. This Zen-like effort is superb and a wine that should also age gracefully over the next two decades. Drink 2040+. Don't miss! |

VM 95-97 (1/2023): The 2021 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru underwent a picked piecemeal from the 30 different plots to find the best order that actually was linked to vine age. It has a gorgeous bouquet with brambly red fruit, loam, blood oranges and subtle graphite aromas. Superb delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, fresh citrus like acidity, tensile and focused. This is a very classic, mineral-driven Musigny with surfeit of salinity that gets the saliva flowing on the finish. So bright on the finish. Neal Martin. JM 95-97 (11/2022): Three tanks were made, in order of picking, then assembled as there is no terroir logic to them, though this has changed for 2022. A fine bright and reasonably deep purple. Classy with just a touch of pepper. Less immediately compelling that some previous vintages, but it is growing steadily in the glass. There is a huge volume of red and black fruit intertwined with a fresh mineral streak running through the middle, supplying excellent length to complete the job. Splendid stuff! A firmer finish but there is plenty of time for that to resolve. Drink from 2030-2040. BH 92-95 (1/2023): This is compositionally similar to the Chambolle "1er", but the brooding nose only grudgingly displays both notably better complexity and more floral nuances as well a background hint of kirsch. As is always the case, there is markedly more size, weight and density to the bigger-bodied and notably more powerful flavors that conclude in a very backward, compact and even more mineral-driven finish. This is still in need of additional élevage, but it should ultimately be quite impressive. Drink 2036+. |

| BH 86 (6/2014): (from younger vines planted in Musigny where the resulting wine has been declassified). A ripe and expressive nose plays right on the edge of oxidation with its aromas of petrol, floral pear and peach. The round and easy to like middle weight flavors don't possess the distinction that I'm used to seeing or the depth. In sum, I found this to be disappointing given the terroir and generally excellent vintage. I should point out that I have not tasted this before so it's possible that I had a less than pristine bottle though everything appeared to be in appropriate condition. Drubj 2016+. |

| VM 91-93 (1/2023): Aged in four used barrels, the 2021 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Blanc has quite a pithy, honeysuckle and melted wax-scented bouquet, very different from other Chardonnays (sometimes more like a fine Pinot Blanc from Alsace!) The palate is very well balanced with a slight viscosity, lively, spicy with ginger and lemongrass, very feisty on the finish. Lovely. Neal Martin. |

BH 95 (6/2024): A ripe yet distinctly cool nose combines notes of citrus confit, spice, Granny Smith apple, white peach and an all but invisible application of wood. The super-sleek but almost painfully intense larger-bodied flavors possess a mouthfeel that is akin to rolling rocks around the mouth on the bone-dry, youthfully austere and compact, indeed very tautly wound, finale that goes on and on. This is terrific and as good a vintage for this wine as I have seen since the 2015 when they began declaring it as Musigny Blanc again. It won't be easy to find but this is one to strongly consider. Drink 2034+. JM 94-96 (11/2023): Bottled end October. Fine pale lemon colour with a definite green tint. Tense powerful crisp fruit, the crunchy side of orchard fruit, then builds in richness to the back, before rediscovering its minerality to finish. Notably persistent, I can see the point in Musigny Blanc more easily than I used to! |

BH 92-94 (4/2025): This is aromatically similar to the Caillerets if more floral in character. There is outstanding vibrancy and delineation to the equally beautifully textured medium weight flavors that are akin to rolling a tiny pebble around the mouth, all wrapped in a moderately austere and impressively persistent finale. While perhaps slightly riper than a classic Taillepieds, this is nonetheless excellent with the development potential to match. If you can find it, buy it. (Drink starting 2035). VM 92-94 (1/2025): Coming from a vineyard that is one-third uprooted at the moment, the 2023 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru dials up the marine element on the nose: hints of seaweed and oyster shell percolate through dark berry fruit as a subtle pencil box note gradually emerges. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins, nicely judged acidity and gentle grip on the finish. Stylish and suave, this is a very harmonious and pure Taillepieds that will be difficult to resist in its youth. (Drink between 2026-2045). Neal Martin. WA 92-94 (1/2025): The 2023 Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds is also especially charming out of the gates this year. Wafting from the glass with aromas of orange zest, dark berries, plums, vine smoke and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with refined tannins and a long, mineral finish. This is an especially suave Taillepieds that will offer a broad drinking window. |

BH 95 (4/2025): (from both Chambolle and Morey fruit). A slightly riper though still appealingly fresh nose combines notes of red and black cherry along with spice hints and a background suggestion of kirsch. There is a lovely sense of delicacy and refinement to the reasonably concentrated flavors that possess a gorgeous acid/fruit/tannin balance on the hugely long finale where a touch of wood slowly emerges. This is not what I would describe as a classic Bonnes Mares but it is nonetheless a gorgeous wine, indeed calling it a Bonnes Mares of finesse would be apt. Drink 2035+. JM 94-96 (10/2024): A crimson ruby. A little wilder than the Chambertin duo, a little plummier, softly ripe raspberries, a range of interesting complex aromatics. Builds fascinatingly on the palate, possibly a higher pH but thoroughly rewarding, with a complex texture as well, multi-layered, and very long. Drink from 2032-2040. |

BH 87 (4/2025): (from vineyards in Santenay, Marsannay and the lower portions of Volnay). This is unusually pretty for a Bourgogne with its array of ripe plum and violet scents. There is fine volume to the utterly delicious and solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that display impressive length on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finale where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This is a quality Bourgogne and worth a look, especially for value. Drink 2026+. JM 86-88 (10/2024): The Bourgogne includes fruit from Pernand and Santenay and Marsannay. Rich deep purple, very ripe cherry, not cooked, but in the opulent style. Slightly firm fruit behind, with a certain glossiness before the crunchy finish. Drink from 2026-2028. |

BH 91 (4/2023): (from a ~.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis). A brooding and distinctly earthy nose is comprised mostly by notes of plum and dark currant. The sleek and precise, but not especially dense, flavors do possess a lovely sense of energy and precise that also characterizes the balanced and youthfully austere finale that is sufficiently firm to assure at least a decade of development potential. JM 91-94 (10/2024): A deep ruby purple. Powerful dense red fruit without detail as yet. Solid, concentrated, four-square, with no shortage of fruit, and a few tannins completing the muscular structure. Perhaps not quite as persistent as the best in the cellar. Drink from 2031-2037. |

BH 94 (4/2025): (near the tree line at the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted in a North-South orientation). This is also beautifully layered and while not quite as spicy, it’s close though the fruit profile is derived more from plum and dark currant. The super-sleek and more mineral-driven flavors possess medium density and excellent underlying tension that gives the firm and youthfully austere finish real punch. Not surprisingly given that this is Chambertin, extended patience will be necessary. Drink 2035+. JM 95-97 (10/2024): More purple and less ruby compared to Beze. A greater depth of fruit, more layers to it. I loved the vigour of the Clos de Bèze but this has more of a natural majesty. Profound, with a silky texture on top of a hard rock Chambertin. Drink from 2032-2045. |

BH 89 (4/2025): (from the 1er Clos de la Rougeotte). This is also aromatically quite pretty with a more elegant nose of black cherry, crushed anise and a whiff of rose petal. There is fine punch to the sleeker and more finely textured medium weight flavors that exude a lovely minerality on the sneaky long finale. A quality Volnay villages. Drink 2028+. JM 88-91 (10/2024): A rich and saturated crimson purple. Here there is more velvet in the texture. Still a certain firmness, more red berries than darker fruit, fills the palate and persists. Some of the grace of Volnay plus Henri Boillot’s uncompromising style. Drink from 2027-2031. |

BH 94 (4/2025): (from a .60 ha parcel). Exuberantly spicy and ripe yet cool aromas are composed by notes of plum, dark raspberry and cassis. Once again there is fine volume to the caressing and gorgeously textured but very punchy medium weight flavors that conclude in a firm, dusty, complex and hugely persistent finish. This is exceptionally classy but altogether serious and if you can find it, buy it.Drink 2033+. JM 91-93 (10/2024): A darker crimson colour, and the fruit too has added a darker note. Black raspberries, a little fresher red fruit further back on the palate, concentrated, tannins present but ripe, fair length. Perhaps this could have been picked a couple of days earlier. Drink from 2029-2035. |

BH 92 (4/2025): (from 25+ year old vines). An elegant, pure and airy nose is beautifully layered with its mix of spicy red and black pinot fruit aromas. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is markedly finer, indeed the word finesse springs to mind, and particularly so on the stony, detailed and well-balanced finale. A wine of lace and grace. Drink 2031+. JM 92-94 (10/2024): A fine crimson purple. A little fresher than the Frémiets, with pure red fruit, cherry and raspberry, a little more mouthfilling, stays youthful all the way through, very well mastered, an impressive Chevrets. Drink from 2029-2034. |

BH 91 (4/2025): Here the expressive nose is slightly riper and spicier with a similar mix of red and dark berries and exotic tea along with more floral elements. The sleek, caressing and nicely punchy middle weight flavors possess adequate mid-palate density together a refined, long and balanced finale. This is perhaps a bit finer than it usually is with solid development potential. Drink 2031+. JM 90-93 (10/2024): Frémiets, the limestone radiator, says Henri. Picked in good time, as the perfume of ripe raspberry with a little soft strawberry indicates. Satisfying across the palate with some energy at the finish, fully ripe but has kept its balance and with adequate acidity. The tannins are fully ripe. Drink from 2029-2034. |

| BH 93-96 (1/2025): A relatively high-toned and super-fresh nose freely reveals exuberantly spicy notes of red currant, pomegranate, anise, rose petal, exotic tea, violet and lavender. The lilting yet impressively intense medium weight flavors are also not especially dense but do deliver stunningly good depth and persistence on the overtly austere, balanced and sleek finale. This silky effort is exceptionally classic and a wine that should also age effortlessly. Drink 2038+. |

Pernand Vergelesses Rouge ex-Domaine |

BH 89 (4/2025): Here too there is a mentholated top note to the fresh and more deeply pitched nose of poached plum, dark berries and more subtle earth nuances. There is better volume to the solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that possess both a finer texture and a discreet bead of minerality on the balanced, youthfully austere and slightly firmer finale. This is a quality Pernand villages. (Drink starting 2028). JM 87-89 (12/2024): An even light crimson colour. While there is less fruit evident on the nose, there is more concentration than expected on the palate, with a certain density towards the back, in a crunchy strawberry raspberry style. Once the bouquet develops this will, become an interesting wine. |

BH 91 (4/2025): An all but imperceptible trace of menthol can be found on the cooler and more elegant aromas of black cherry, violet and a pretty range of spice elements. The notably sleeker and finer lightly stony flavors possess good size and weight, all wrapped in a dusty, balanced and lengthy finale. This could use better depth but a few years of keeping should reasonably address that. (Drink starting 2029). VM 91 (3/2025): The 2023 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Serpentières 1er Cru has an understated bouquet with brambly red fruit and commendable purity, not intense but graceful. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, very well balanced with a slightly peppery finish (though there is no whole bunch here). Very well crafted. (Drink between 2026-2036). Neal Martin. |

Bourgogne Bons Batons ex-Domaine |

| |
VM 88-90 (1/2025): The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge Bon Baton comes from a parcel adjacent to Ghislaine Barthod's on stonier soils, aged mostly in one-year-old barrels. Lightly perfumed on the nose, this conjures raspberry, strawberry and wild hedgerow scents, more complex than your common or garden Bourgogne Rouge. The palate is medium-bodied with satisfying concentration, not weighty or dense but light on its feet with commendable purity and grip on the finish. Traces of tobacco emerge on the aftertaste. Village Cru in quality. (Drink between 2026-2031). Neal Martin. JM 87-89 (10/2024): An even purple colour. A very attractive stylish perfumed floral nose, with a little more body than the regular. Not massively concentrated but distinguished in its length. Sound acidity. The flavours stay with you. Drink from 2026-2030. BH 86-89 (1/2025): A slightly riper and more deeply pitched nose features aromas of dark cherry, poached plum and freshly turned earth. The delicious if not especially dense flavors do possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before culminating in a youthfully austere, lingering and mildly austere finale. This is also very good for its level and worth checking out. Drink 2027+. Outstanding! |

JM 86-87 (10/2024): A fine red to crimson colour, with an agreeable immediate red fruit nose, no great concentration but nicely made. Perfumed with some cherries, a slight hardness at the finish still needing time to soften – recently racked – and good acidity. Some young vines in this. Drink from 2026-2028. BH 86-89 (1/2025): (from Chambolle vines.) An expressive and fresh nose offers up notes of red and blue pinot fruit laced with earth and discreet spice nuances. The supple, delicious and fleshy middle weight flavors conclude in a refreshing and long finish where a touch of rusticity eventually surfaces. Solid quality here. Outstanding! |

Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes ex-Domaine |
$134.95 |

|
| |
BH 91-94 (1/2025): (from a .40 ha holding of 65+ year old vines.) A highly expressive, perfumed and even more floral-suffused nose displays aromas of various dark berries, plum and a top note of kirsch. The racy, beautifully detailed and solidly concentrated and voluminous medium-bodied flavors aren't quite as mineral-driven but it's close on the youthfully austere, balanced and wonderfully persistent finish. This too is excellent. Drink 2033+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 92-94 (1/2025): The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru comes from three parcels and includes 25% whole bunch. This has a classy bouquet with touches of freshly-rolled tobacco and graphite infusing the dark berry fruit, as hints of iris flower surface over time and remain subtle throughout. There is wonderful definition here. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh with disarming purity on the entry, slightly chalky tannins and a little confit fruit toward the finish. Stylish and suave, this is very seductive but there is structure and substance to suggest it will age well in bottle. Excellent. (Drink between 2027-2043). Neal Martin. JM 91-94 (10/2024): A medium to full purple, with a depth of warmer raspberry fruit on the nose. Bright fruit, medium depth, a little point of acidity, livened up by the whole bunches, slightly more persistent. Some tannins at the back waiting to refine. Drink from 2029-2036. |

BH 91-93 (1/2025): (from the villages portion of the vineyard.) A more elegant, more floral and more expressive nose freely offers up its mostly cool red cherry, spice and a similar hint of crushed anise. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is positively gorgeous, even silky, with an almost pungent minerality adding a sense of lift to the long, balanced and youthfully austere finale. This is a stunningly good Chambolle villages that would make many a premier cru blush - highly recommended. Drink 2031+. Outstanding! JM 90-93 (10/2024): An even ruby purple. Here the nose stands up and speaks of the vineyard, with nothing too solar in style. The dark raspberry fruit, with some cherry overtones, fills the palate very nicely with a positive structure of medium tannins and a little acidity provide an interesting rearguard, Drink from 2028-2034. VM 88-90 (1/2025): The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras has a fresh and expressive bouquet of black cherries, raspberry and subtle violet scents, gradually revealing just a hint of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied with a taut opening. Leaner than the 2022 with moderate length, this just requires a little more flesh toward the citric finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle. (Drink between 2026-2038). Neal Martin. |

VM 90-92 (1/2025): The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from vines over 50 years old from three lieux-dits. Tightly knit on the nose, this adds just a soupçon of blue fruit to the bouquet that's a little floral with admirable vigor. Just a hint of kirsch emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip on the entry. This is a solid Chambolle-Musigny, though the finish should be tighter with more flow. It's just a bit static at the moment. Give this a couple of years in bottle. (Drink between 2027-2040). NEal Martin. JM 89-91 (10/2024): Purchased grapes. Medium purple with a lighter rim. This carries Chambolle qualities, some violets, not quite the coffee, medium bodied, good acidity again, a mid-range Chambolle for the medium term. Drink from 2027-2031. BH 88-91 (1/2025): (from Les Danguerrins, Aux Croix and Babillières). A pretty if brooding nose is comprised by notes of various dark berries, violet and crushed anise. The super-sleek, delicious and intense medium-bodied flavors are not particularly dense but they do possess, much like the CdNV, a highly seductive mouthfeel before concluding in a youthfully austere and ever-so-mildly edgy finish. The edginess will probably round out if given a few years and note that my projected range offers the benefit of the doubt. Drink 2029+. |

VM 89-91 (1/2025): The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages comprises two-thirds fruit purchased from Clombanchien, and the rest Domaine fruit from En Luret lieu-dit. Blackcurrant and raspberry combine nicely on the nose, not concentrated per se, yet showing decent clarity and purity. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly granular texture on the entry, lightly peppered though there are no stems in the blend. Focused and harmonious toward the finish, this is a worthy follow-up to the 2022. (Drink between 2027-2037). Neal Martin. JM 89-90 (10/2024): A mix of their own vines, one third from Au Leurey, and the rest purchases in Comblanchien. There is more depth to the purple colour here. A perfumed nose with a more sensual and floral bouquet redolent of the sunshine. Good acidity behind, medium density, some length. Drink from 2027-2030. BH 88-91 (1/2025): (mostly from Belle-Vue in Comblanchien with small amounts of Les Loges, Les Leurey and Vaucrains.) This is aromatically similar to the Bon Bâtons but with notably more spice influence. The supple, delicious and energetic medium weight flavors possess a highly seductive, even velvety, texture while displaying very good length and depth on the balanced bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. Drink 2028+. |

Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Argillieres ex-Domaine |
$109.95 |

JM 93-96 (10/2024): Ruby to purple. Immediately a beautiful nose, perhaps the 25% whole bunches speaking. They are discreet but give such a lift. The fruit itself is beautiful and there is plenty of it, raspberry with a little cherry note behind and some alpine strawberries. Harmony and beauty with excellent length. Drink from 2030-2037. BH 91-94 (1/2025): A decidedly more reserved and cooler nose grudgingly reveals its aromas of poached plum, newly turned earth, exotic tea and floral whiffs of violet and lilac. The lilting and beautifully textured middle weight flavors possess a really lovely mid-palate mouthfeel before culminating in a youthfully austere, stony, precise and impressively long finale. I very much like the balance and this excellent effort should age effortlessly. Drink 2035+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 91-93 (1/2025): The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Argillières 1er Cru, which includes 30% whole bunch, has an intriguing bouquet: mainly dark berry fruit intermingled with mulch, white pepper and sea spray scents. There is fine delineation once again. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit and touches of sea salt, giving way to a quite marine-influenced finale with gentle grip. One of the more cerebral wines from Nuits Saint-Georges, the 2023 is cohesive—perhaps missing the audacity of the previous vintage yet certainly very well-crafted. (Drink between 2027-2043). Neal Martin. |

Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos St. Marc ex-Domaine |
$129.95 |
26 |
|
| |
JM 93-96 (10/2024): A vibrant purple. Here too there is an exciting energy to the nose, slightly darker fruit, even a hint of chocolate on the nose. Slightly more depth than the Clos des Argillières, with firmer but very well integrated tannins. This needs a little more elevage, before it might overtake the seductive beauty of the Argillières. Drink from 2030-2038. VM 93-95 (1/2025): The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St. Marc 1er Cru, a monopole belonging to the Domaine, includes 25-30% whole bunches. This feels a little more animated and energetic than the Clos des Argillières, with more red fruit, crushed stone and lightly pressed flower scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. There is a sense of "fluidity" in this Clos Saint-Marc, which displays gentle grip, lovely poise and weight toward the spicy finish. This is the Domaine's standout cuvée in 2023—superb. (Drink between 2027-2048). Neal Martin. BH 91-93 (1/2025): (a .93 ha monopole of the domaine.) This is aromatically similar to the Argillières if perhaps just a bit spicier. There is a similar mouthfeel as well if more size, weight and muscle to the saline, serious, more youthfully austere and compact finale. This is even more backward though not necessarily more structured and as such, it's going to require at least some patience. This too is excellent with the potential to match. Drink 2035+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Hauts Pruliers ex-Domaine |
$109.95 |
59 |
|
| |
VM 92-94 (1/2025): The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Hauts Pruliers 1er Cru offers more red fruit on the nose: strawberry and raspberry, just a touch of violet and a soupçon of espresso, all with precise delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and very cohesive with fine tannins, a crisp line of acidity and silky-smooth tannins. There is just a light lactic element on the finish but that will go with time. The 2022 was one of Rion's standouts and this is a worthy follow-up. Recommended. (Drink between 2027-2043). Neal Martin. JM 91-93 (10/2024): Medium deep ruby purple. More of a savoury touch to the nose., along with dark red berries. Firm tannins behind the medium density fruit, the class is more in the persistence. The Hauts Pruliers shows a limestone character. Drink from 2029-2035. BH 90-93 (1/2025): (from the tiny .41 ha premier cru section.) A fresh, perfumed and moderately deeply pitched nose exhibits notes of various dark berries, plum and a whiff of earth along with a subtle hint of spice. The succulent, nicely voluminous and racy flavors terminate in a mildly austere, mineral-driven and and solidly persistent finish that possesses fine balance. Once again, this is lovely but sufficiently structured to need at least some cellaring. Drink 2033+. |

Nuits St. Georges Aux Barrieres ex-Domaine |
$89.95 |
60 |
|
| |
VM 91-93 (1/2025): The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Barrières comes from a single 0.70-hectare parcel in the north of the appellation. It doesn't quite click into gear on the nose like the wonderful 2022, rather it is perhaps more discrete with loamy scents percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm grip. Fine tannins and a conspicuous, almost briny marine influence develop toward the finish, lending another dimension. It coheres nicely in the glass and it should give 12 to 15 years' drinking pleasure. (Drink between 2027-2042). Neal Martin. JM 90-92 (10/2024): Ruby with a crimson rim. Less immediately expressive than the Nuits-St-Georges Vieilles Vignes, with in any case a different fruit profile, demonstrating the terroir of the north side of Nuits, beginning to flirt with Vosne-Romanée. The class shows on the second half of the palate and in the persistence, across more refined tannins. Horses for courses. Drink from 2028-2033. BH 89-91 (1/2025): (from a .70 ha holding.) An equally cool and slightly spicier nose speaks of the essence of red plum, newly turned earth and dark currant. The very supple, even caressing medium weight flavors possess fine punch and a subtle minerality on the firm, powerful and serious finale. Fine quality here as well. Drink 2031+. Outstanding! |

Vosne Romanee ex-Domaine |
$119 |
44 |
|
| |
JM 90-93 (10/2024): From La Croix Blanche, Ravioles and Hauts Beaux Monts. A fine even purple, with a slightly headier nose than the Chambolles. Still with real spice. A pure red berry fruit, with some darker threads, a little spice, and fine length. An attractive village Vosne in harmonious balance. Drink from 2028-2034. BH 89-92 (1/2025): (from rough proportions of 25% Les Raviolles, 25% Croix Blanches and 50% Les Hauts Beaux Monts.) A distinctly spicy, bright, ripe and very fresh nose features notes of violet, rose petal and the essence of black pinot fruit. The rich, supple and velvety middle weight flavors possess a seductive mid-palate mouthfeel that contrasts noticeably with the firm, dusty and lingering finish that flirts with rusticity. Once again, this is a very impressive villages. Drink 2031+. Outstanding Top Value! VM 88-90 (1/2025): A blend of three parcels in Les Croix Blanche, Les Raviolle and Les Haut Beaumonts, the 2023 Vosne-Romanée Village is quite understated on the nose despite coaxing, with pretty blackcurrant and raspberry fruit eventually unfurling. The palate is nicely structured with gentle grip. A little candied fruit surfaces toward the slightly lactic finish, with dark chocolate and espresso slightly impeding the fruit at the moment. Enjoy this after a couple of years in bottle. (Drink between 2026-2038). Neal Martin. |

WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
