BH 87 (6/2024): Bright aromas of just sliced citrus, white peach and pretty floral nuances are complemented by delicious middleweight flavors that are supported by lemon-tinged acidity on the vibrant, lingering and refreshing finale. Moreover, this is not your usual 'pop and pour' Bourgogne as it has the legs to repay 4 to 7 years of keeping. Worth checking out. Drink 2027+. Outstanding Top Value! JM 87-89 (10/2023): A similar colour, pale primrose perhaps. A little bit crisper and more classic in bouquet. Delicious white fruit, very balanced, feel the limestone, enough flesh yet with precision as well. A longer and more mineral finish than Forgets. |

Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru |

BH 91 (6/2015): (from Corton-Pougets) This is the first wine to display any appreciable amount of wood and even here it's quite subtle as it easily allows the notably exotic aromas of dried yellow fruit, lychee nut and dried tangerine peel-infused aromas to shine. This is a markedly powerful effort, even by the elevated standards of Corton-Charlemagne, with its dense and muscular big-bodied flavors that terminate in a beautifully complex if mildly edgy and dry finale. As the description suggests the balance isn't perfect but there is so much underlying material that my score offers the benefit of the doubt that this will better harmonize with a few years of bottle age. Drink 2020+. WA 92-94 (12/2014): The 2013 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, which comes from a small parcel in Pougets just below the large trees and sees no new wood, has a delineated bouquet with clear honey and lemon curd scents, the mineral/stony notes lying in wait just behind. The palate is crisp and poised on the entry. The acidity is wonderfully judged and lends real tension to this Corton Charlemagne, while there is a convincing level of energy on the finish. This may actually just pip the 2012 past the post. |

BH 92 (6/2017): (from Pougets in Aloxe.) A more elegant and slightly more complex broad-ranging nose reflects an assortment of green apple, white flower, pear, mineral reduction and a wisp of oak. The overtly rich, full-bodied and powerful flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the moderately firm acid spine shaping the stony and saline-inflected finale. This too will need at least a few years of patience. Drink 2023+. VM 91 (9/2017): Bright light yellow. Aromas of lemon oil, wild herbs, lavender and crushed stone. Broad and floral, showing attractive estery lift and some exotic suggestions to its apple and herb flavors. Doesn't quite come alive on the finish, which shows a trace of alcoholic warmth as well as a faint phenolic edge. Stephen Tanzer. |

| BH 93 (6/2021): (from a .17 ha holding in Pougets.) A gentle touch of wood sets off elegant, pure and exceptionally fresh aromas of just sliced green apple, citrus confit and discreet floral nuances. There is excellent volume and richness to the bigger and markedly more powerful flavors that brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract on the wonderfully long finish. This is presently very compact and will need time to unwind as well as to develop more depth. |

BH 95 (6/2024): (from a .17 ha holding in Pougets.) A very fresh, cool and beautifully layered nose freely reveals aromas of acacia blossom, citrus confit and a beautiful array of spice wisps. There is excellent size, weight and mid-palate density to the big-bodied and powerful flavors that culminate in a lemon, very clean and hugely long mineral-driven finale. This muscular effort is a block of stone at present and I would advise not touching a bottle for the first 7 to 8 years. With that said, if you can find it, and intend to cellar it, don't hesitate as this is a knockout of a Corton-Charlemagne. Drink 2034+. Don't miss! JM 93-95 (10/2023): This is still in barrel, unracked. Pale primrose, the bouquet is less easy to discern at this stage, with a minor oxidative note and some reduction. Put that to one side. On the palate this is classic, with a wealth of white fruit, a mineral underlay, a touch of oak too of course, some power and good length. Should emerge from its cocoon very soundly. |

BH 91 (6/2022): (the name is a play on words as this is a .60 ha blend of two vineyards, Les Clous and Crotots.) There is a vague whiff of the exotic to the ripe, fresh and pretty aromas of roasted nut, mineral reduction, white peach and tangerine peel. There is superb intensity and cut to the dense and tautly muscular medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the youthfully austere and impressively persistent and distinctly lemony finish. This is terrific for its level and recommended. Drink 2026+. Outstanding Top Value! VM 91 (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Les Clousots has a touch more definition and intensity on the nose compared to the Tillets, very elegant with hints of yellow flower and nectarine. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, good weight and concentration with tropical notes of pineapple and white peach towards the smooth finish. Quite seductive. Neal Martin. |

BH 92 (6/2024): A more elegant and spicier nose features aromas of wet stone, lemon-lime, plenty of floral elements and the barest hint of wood. The racy, beautifully detailed and refined middleweight flavors exude a borderline pungent minerality on the impressively long bitter zest-inflected finish. This is a classic, and entirely superb, Tillets of delicacy and restraint. Drink 2030+. Outstanding Top Value! JM 89-92 (10/2023): A light green tint in the colour, with a fresh and floral nose, as always with a touch of lime blossom. Fine energy on the palate without putting on too much flesh, indeed medium bodied, quite an elegant hillside Meursault. |

| BH 93 (9/2022): An attractively fresh if mildly woody nose combines notes of floral and spice with those of prominent Chablis character and in particular oyster shell. The detailed and markedly intense middleweight flavors brim with minerality that carries over to the balanced, wonderfully long and bitter lemon-inflected finish. This is lovely and a Vaudésir of finesse and delicacy that should age gracefully for at least a decade and perhaps a bit more. Drink 2028+. |

| BH 97 (6/2022): A discreet but not invisible touch of wood sets off the notably more floral-suffused aromas of citrus confit, exotic tea, anise and white peach. The gorgeously textured large-scaled flavors possess outstanding cut and minerality that contrasts with the exceptionally dry, austere and massively long finish. This strikingly pure effort is packed with potential but note well that it's not likely to be a wine that permits early accessibility. In sum, this is a classic Chevalier in the making, but patience will absolutely be required. Drink 2032+. Don't miss! |

| BH 96 (6/2022): (from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières). This is perhaps the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its aromas of essence of pear and plenitude of spice and citrus elements. Once again, the mid-palate mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is absolutely gorgeous, which contrasts noticeably with the cuts-like-a-knife finish that remains ultra-refined, balanced and persistent. This is most impressive, particularly for the remarkably fine volume and power that is delivered with grace and class. Drink 2030+. |

BH 95 (6/2023): An airy, cool and layered nose features notes of green apple, white flowers and discreet hints of mineral reduction and wood. The almost painfully intense, sleek and tension-filled flavors display beautiful cut and minerality while delivering superb length on the chiseled, linear and austere finale. This is an old school CC that is rich and ripe yet it cuts-like-a-knife. Impressive. WA 97 (6/2023): As I wrote earlier this year, Bonneau du Martray's 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp Anjou pear, peach and nectarine mingled with white flowers, clear honey, nutmeg, mint and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's bright and concentrated, with terrific depth at the core and a long, saline finish. Seamless, intense and complete, this elegant, precise white Burgundy is built for the cellar. VM 93 (1/2023): The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was bottled in May 2022. It has a light bouquet at first, gaining intensity with time, scents of beeswax, chalk and touches of Mirabelle. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Quite tensile, backward and fine salinity. There is a pleasant residual spiciness here that comes through on the finish. The remainder of barrel maturation will lend more depth and weight and it will benefit from 3-5 years in bottle. Neal Martin. |

VM 95-97 (12/2021): The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru, which was undergoing its élevage in foudres, has a very sophisticated bouquet with mineral-rich citrus fruit, hints of hazelnut and lanolin. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity. There is a little more density and concentration compared to the regular Chevalier-Montrachet and though there is a patina of oak to be subsumed, this will surely age with style. Excellent. (Readers should note that no 2021 will be produced due to frost and there will just be a tiny amount of Chevalier-Montrachet.) (Drink between 2025-2050). Neal Martin. WA 95-97 (1/2022): The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru is brilliant, bursting with aromas of orange oil, nutmeg, crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and peach. Full-bodied, satiny and concentrated, it's layered and multidimensional, with striking depth and intensity, concluding with a long, resonant finish. It's a brilliant wine in the making. |

| VM 95 (7/2024): The 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru has a creamy nose with touches of white chocolate, almond and chamomile. However, considering the vineyard in question, I would have liked more mineralité and terroir expression. A bit of alcoholic warmth develops in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Tightly coiled citrus fruit, orange zest and patisserie, though it doesn't fully deliver the tour de force finish you want from a "Monty". Let's see what a few years in bottle will do. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Drink between 2028-2052. |

JM 93-95 (6/2021): Lighter lemon yellow, the bouquet offering a light touch of menthol and especially anis. Deeper generous soil here but they think they have learnt to get the best out of it. Certainly a grand cru wealth of fruit, the acidity keeps the balance very nicely, a generous warm overcoat and good length. Nice wine! BH 92-94 (10/2021): This is restrained to the point of being all but aromatically mute though aggressive swirling eventually coaxes notes of green fruit, citrus peel and oyster shell nuances to reveal themselves. There is both excellent volume and concentration to the big-bodied, powerful and imposing flavors that are focused, structured and youthfully austere. This is very much a work in progress, and I would advise allowing this at least 5 years of cellaring and it should easily reward a decade or more. VM 92-94 (10/2021): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru comes from six hectares of vines, southwest- and south-facing, forming the two different cuvées. The bouquet unfolds to offer lovely yellow fruit and oyster leaf aromas, well defined and quite generous. The palate is taut and crisp with fine acidity and moderate depth, but very pretty and composed toward the saline finish. There is plenty of substance already in situ and I foresee this aging with class. Neal Martin. |

WA 96 (7/2022): In a sense, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots offers a resumé of several of Fèvre's grand cru bottlings, uniting the taut musculature of Valmur and the ethereal, mineral profile of Les Preuses, with some of the perfumed sensuality of Vaudésir and fleshy texture of Bougros. The result is certainly a very compelling wine, exhibiting aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, white flowers, freshly baked bread, oyster jus and white peach, followed by a full-bodied, taut and layered palate that's seamless and complete, concluding with a pungently mineral finish. It's worth a special effort to seek out, though a decade's patience is warmly advised. BH 96 (9/2022): A deft application of wood lurks in the background of the aromas cool citrus, apple, mineral reduction and ocean breeze wisps. There is an almost painful intensity to the powerful but sleek and defined medium weight plus flavors that brim with minerality on the clean, very dry and hugely long finish. This is also potentially brilliant and well-worth considering. (Drink starting 2032). VM 93 (7/2024): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Côte Bouguerots Grand Cru has a crushed stone scented bouquet. A peppermint trace comes through with aeration. The nose is controlled and citrus-fresh, and I admire the energy. The palate is poised and concentrated, and a silver thread of acidity keeps this Grand Cru tensile and focused. Bright and lightly spiced towards the finish, this fans out with style. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2025-2044). Neal Martin. |

| BH 96 (9/2022): A cool, restrained and airy nose grudgingly divulges its combination of lemon rind, green apple, quinine and acacia blossom scents that are also trimmed in discreet wood. There is again excellent volume and concentration to the powerful and muscular flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the impressively complex and hugely long finish. This is classic Les Clos in that it manages to be at once big and overtly powerful while remaining refined and classy. This is, in a word, stunning. Drink 2032+. |

WA 94 (7/2022): Bursting from the glass with aromas of vine blossom, orange zest, crisp white peach and honeycomb, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a seamless, elegantly fleshy profile and lively balancing acids. As is often the case, it's one of the more demonstrative grand cru bottlings in the range, yet its track record for longevity is impressive. BH 93 (9/2022): A discreet dollop of wood sets off the ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, passion fruit and subtle mineral reduction wisps. There is a positively gorgeous texture to the highly refined middleweight flavors that culminate in lightly stony, focused and sneaky long finish. This could use a bit more depth though overall, it is a classic Vaudésir of lace and grace that should generously reward a decade or so of cellaring. |

WA 92-94 (1/2022): One of the more reserved wines on the day of my tasting was the 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive wine evocative of citrus zest, struck matches, white flowers and crisp green orchard fruit. Tightly wound but intensely flavored, it concludes with a chalky finish. BH 90-93 (6/2022): This too is quite cool, restrained and airy with its very pretty and ever-so-vaguely exotic aromas of passion fruit, white peach, jasmine tea and a whiff of acacia. The delicious, round and caressing medium weight flavors possess solid punch if only average concentration, all wrapped in an agreeably dry, firm and tightly wound finale. This is lovely though it will need to add depth to merit the upper end of my projected range. (Drink starting 2030). |

| BH 91-94 (6/2022): The hallmark notes of honeysuckle are present on the aromas of apple compote, acacia and vaguely exotic orange and tangerine peel. The nicely sleek, rich and beautifully textured medium weight flavors also possess a highly sophisticated mouthfeel while delivering fine depth and persistence on the tightly wound and built-to-age finale. This lovely effort will likely require at least 5 to 7 years to display enough of its potential to make it worthwhile to open a bottle. Drink 2032+. Outstanding! |

VM 93-95 (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru is crisp and precise on the nose, just as mineral-driven as the Charmes though there is a little more flintiness here. The palate has exquisite balance and poise, citrus peel and lime, very good weight towards the finish with hazelnut and fumé notes on the long and (again) spicy finish. Excellent. Neal Martin. BH 92-94 (6/2022): While compositionally similar to the Charmes, this is notably spicier while offering a hint of exotic tea as well. The pure, energetic and strikingly textured middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract on the balanced, youthfully austere and stony finale. This impressively persistent and very stylish effort is a wine of finesse and it too should amply reward mid to perhaps even longer-term cellaring. Drink 2028+. |

| BH 91 (6/2023): Pretty and cool yet ripe aromas consist of poached pear, green apple and acacia blossom. The racy and impressively intense flavors exude evident minerality on the chiseled, bone-dry and bone-dry finale. This refined, indeed even delicate, effort is decidedly compact and quite tightly wound so at least a few years of patience should be beneficial. Worth checking out as the quality is excellent for its level. (Drink starting 2027). |

| BH 90-92 (6/2022): A whiff of petrol can be found on the ripe aromas of white orchard fruit, especially white peach, citrus confit and a vaguely honeyed character. VM 88? (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has a slightly nutty, Meursault-like bouquet that needs a little more freshness. It feels a little more mature than a 2020. There is something a bit static about the aromatics. The palate is balanced with a tangy opening, a simple Chardonnay rather than a definable Saint-Aubin. It is fresh and boasts decent length, but it does not leave you beholden. N.B. I find this far superior at the Domaine, hence my lower score. Perhaps the bottle? Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. BH 92 (7/2023): There is just enough reduction to suppress the underlying fruit for the moment with the exception of a whisper of lemon zest. By contrast there is really lovely intensity to the precise, cool and restrained mineral-inflected middleweight flavors that terminate in a racy, clean and emphatically dry finale that displays only a trace of youthful austerity. This chiseled effort is excellent and akin to rolling tiny rocks around the mouth. |

WA 95 (1/2023): The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly wafts from the glass with aromas of white flowers, crisp stone fruit, honeycomb, orange oil and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping palate that's racy and precise, combining the aromatic expression and textural attack characteristic of its sunny exposition with the tension and cut appropriate to this high-altitude, stony site. BH 92 (6/2023): This is aromatically quite similar to the Chez Edouard but with more prominent citrus influence. There is notably better density to the equally beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that flash excellent minerality on the solidly powerful, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finale. Like the Gravières, this should be enjoyable young but have no trouble repaying up to a decade of bottle age. (Drink starting 2028). VM 88 (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with wet pavement and limestone aromas, pinning this as an En Remilly. It just becomes a little diffuse with aeration. The palate is slightly chalky on the entry, has crisp acidity, and may be a little too sharp on the citric finish. I would also prefer more length here. I'm surprised this turned out to be Lamy, but that's blind tasting for you. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin. |

BH 89-92 (6/2022): The underlying fruit is presently masked by just enough reduction to blur the nuance. More interesting are the solidly concentrated and sappy flavors that possess even better volume before culminating in a mouth coating and unusually powerful finish that possess excellent depth and persistence for a wine at this level. Very fine quality for a villages-level Chassagne and well-worth checking out. VM 89-91 (12/2021): The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Village had been blended and fined. This is well-defined on the nose with lemon sherbet and light orange zest aromas, a very subtle mineral note that surfaces with time. The palate is well balanced with a hint of quince on the entry, quite taut and linear, plenty of freshness towards with just a very discrete pithiness. A fine Chassagne-Montrachet. Neal Martin. |

| BH 95 (9/2022): A more elegant and ultra-cool nose reveals its combination of floral, citrus zest, iodine and that briny sea water character the best examples of Chablis all seem to possess, all of which is trimmed in moderate but not invasive wood. There isn't quite the same volume on the palate as the Butteaux, but the middleweight flavors are notably more refined before terminating in a driving, chiseled and citrusy bone-dry finale. I very much like the focused power of the finish and this classy effort should also amply reward extended cellaring. Drink 2032+. |

| JM 96-98 (10/2021): Mid lemon yellow. This has the weight which should have. The nose does indeed speak of Montrachet with a measured opulence. The weight on the palate transcends those which have gone before, there is a grip from the barrel and a little toast (a new Chassin barrel and one year old François Frères). Very long and relatively fine finish. Extremely good. |

| VM 91 (6/2009): Neri's 2004 Brunellos are immensely successful. I look forward with great anticipation to the 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto, which should be released some time next year. The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a big, fruit-driven wine. Made in a concentrated, opulent style, this Brunello offers tons of fruit and a round, soft personality. There isn't too much nuance in the wine today, but that should develop in bottle. The long, polished finish invites a second taste. For now, this remains one of the more overtly fruit-forward wines of the vintage. The entry-level Brunello spends roughly 40 months in large, neutral oak. Antonio Galloni. |

JS 96 (12/2014): Gorgeous aromas of sea salt, savory, smoked meats and dried fruits follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and a long and intense finish. So beautiful and enticing. Goes on for minutes. Excellent quality for the standard bottling of this winery. Better in 2016. WA 96 (2/2015): The Outstanding 2010 Brunello di Montalcino gives you everything you want to see in a great wine, a great Tuscan wine. This monumental expression of Sangiovese delivers top-notch intensity with seamless integration of aromas. They span from dark fruit and Morello cherry to chocolate, spice, licorice, balsam herb and rosemary sprig. The energy and vitality of the vintage is locked perfectly within. This Brunello exhibits especially soft, silky tannins with long persistence and momentum. There is nothing out of place and the price tag is certainly not exaggerated for this level of excellence. VM 91 (2/2015): Black cherries, plums, lavender, smoke, spices and wild flowers jump from the glass in the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. Today, the flavors are bright and primary, while the tannins are tightly wound. I would prefer to drink the 2010 sooner rather than later, though, while the fruit retains its vibrancy. The Brunello di Montalcino, often informally called the 'white label', is aged exclusively in cask. |

VM 95 (11/2025): The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is an understated beauty, mixing dusty rose and lavender with shavings of blood orange and black cherries. It is surprisingly juicy yet elegant and refined, as ripe wild berry fruits slowly drench the palate in primary concentration. Structured and dramatically long, the 2021 finishes spicy and intense with nuances of citrus, clove and licorice. The complexity here is off the charts and the energy is incredible. (Drink between 2028-2040). Eric Guido. WA 93 (1/2026): The Casanova di Neri 2021 Brunello di Montalcino shows dark fruit flavors of plum and soft berry. A glossy texture lends polish and shine to the mouthfeel, while the wine delivers medium-lean weight and moderate length with good brightness and freshness. Aging sees 42 months in large oak casks. This bottling represents the estate’s classic, multi-vineyard village expression, designed to balance consistency, accessibility and regional typicity. Production totals 94,800 bottles. |

| JD 98 (3/2023): A rich ruby hue, the 2012 Brunello Di Montalcino Cerretalto is ripe and pure, with kirsch, polished leather, anise, and cedar. It is full-bodied without weight and has an elegant yet expansive mouthfeel, with ripe tannins and a velvety texture balanced with fresh acidity. It has fantastic length, with notes of wild raspberry, red plum, dried rose petal, and sweet herbs. It is in a beautiful place for drinking now and shows no signs of slowing down or moving into more tertiary notes. An exquisite wine, it warrants decanting as it opens. Drink 2023-2043. |

JS 100 (1/2021): This is a momentous wine with incredible power and structure that has so much minerality and crushed-stone character to the black cherries and blueberries. Full-bodied and tannic, yet the tannins are layered and polished with a glorious, creamy and juicy texture that coats your mouth. It goes on for minutes. Incredible wine. Try after 2025. WA 98+ (11/2020): Of these new releases from this benchmark estate, the Casanova di Neri 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is my favorite wine. This Riserva is larger than life with ripe fruit, raspberry, cherry, spice, cola, root beer, mesquite and cedar. The wine offers a flashy and generous quality of fruit that unfolds over time with a multifaceted and multi-layered presentation. One thing that stands out here is the acidity that is bracing and tart at first but then succumbs to an important supporting role, rendering lasting freshness and persistence to the finish. With time, you get a flash of cherry and crème de cassis that seals the deal. VM 95 (11/2020): The 2015 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is remarkably fresh and balanced despite its large-scale persona. Minty herbs give way to raspberry and cherry with exotic spices and a hint of pine resin. It boasts depths of silky textures; yet it remains juicy and full of energy, displaying ripe red and black fruits, laced with salty minerals, as hints of cinnamon and baker’s chocolate form toward the close. Fine tannins come forward on the finish, tugging at the cheeks, yet all under an air of sweet spice and violet florals. As young as this is today, it’s hard to put the glass down, and I can only imagine the depths that will be revealed with five or more years of cellaring. Eric Guido. |

JS 97 (12/2010): There is so much ripe fruit here with a decadent richness that is just crazy. Verges on raisins but it goes instead to pure fruit. Very full and velvety with a long finish. I love this. VM 96 (6/2007): Medium-deep bright ruby. Beautiful, profound nose of sweet ripe cherry, pipe tobacco, almond and raspberry jam. Ripe, suave and juicy, with sweet flavors similar to the aromas, this is an absolutely seamless wine with lively harmonious acidity on a suave, never-ending finish. Though extremely concentrated, this is a uniquely refined Brunello with wonderfully suave smooth, classy tannins. WA 92 (4/2006): The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is Neri’s modern-styled Brunello. It is made from vines planted in the southern part of the zone and aged in small oak barrels. It displays a darker, almost saturated color and notable concentration with masses of sweet dark fruit, smoke and licorice flavors that flow onto the palate with exceptional length and balance in a powerful, brooding style. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021. |

JS 93 (12/2010): Very fresh for a 2005 with dense fruit and silky tannins. Not the same depth of fruit of the 2004 or the 2006 for that matter, but it is clearly one of the best 2005’s in my opinion. I suggest another couple of years of cellar age. Great finesse, richness, and freshness for the vintage. WA 93 (6/2009): The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova reveals layers of dark perfumed fruit intermingled with French oak, spices, minerals, violets and licorice. The Tenuta Nuova is impressive mostly for its textural richness and sheer depth, both qualities it has in spades. The finish is long, sweet and pure. Here, too, the wine will need at least a few years in bottle before its full range of aromas and flavors emerges. Neri gave the Tenuta Nuova 30 months in medium-sized French oak tonneaux. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2024. |

WA 93 (4/2010): The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is quite a bit darker and richer than the straight Brunello. Cherries, plums, spices and French oak meld together beautifully in this silky, textured red. In 2005 the Tenuta Nuova boasts fabulous overall balance in a fairly restrained style for this bottling. Kirsch, roses and spices linger on the dark, enveloping finish. This is a terrific effort from Casanova di Neri. The Tenuta Nuova is made from vineyards in Le Cetine and Pietradonice, both located in the southern part of Montalcino. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2022. JS 93 (12/2010): It may not be 2004, but this is a rich and dense wine with lots of blueberry and dried berry. Full bodied, with lovely combination of fruit and lightly toasted oak. Enjoy now or let it age for a few years. VM 91 (7/2010): Good full ruby-red. Aromatic nose combines red raspberry, superripe red cherry and dried herbs (rosemary, sage, bay leaf). Then sweet, suave and wonderfully fine-grained, with fleshy red cherry and red plum flavors given shape by harmonious acidity. Finishes with excellent length, but becomes a touch austere on the back. |

JS 97 (12/2012): This is not the perfect 100-point 2006, but damn close. Loads of black cherries and spices on the nose. Full-bodied, with a beautiful core of fruit. Long and gorgeous finish. This is so long and beautiful to taste. Lasts for minutes. Try after 2015. VM 95+ (4/2012): The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova saturates the palate with masses of super-ripe dark fruit, tar, licorice and new leather. The Tenuta Nuova is an especially full-bodied, seamless Sangiovese deeply influenced by the Mediterranean climate of this warm site in the south of Montalcino. Layers of fruit build to an effortless, resonant finish laced with considerable aromatic nuance. This is another terrific showing from Giacomo Neri and his talented team. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. Antonio Galloni. |

JS 94 (2/2013): This is very floral with blackberries on the nose. It's full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a ripe fruit, caramel and berry aftertaste. Delicious for the vintage. One of the wines of the vintage. Better in 2015. WA 92 (6/2013): The estate’s 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is bold, frank and direct. Mocha, plums, black cherries, savory herbs and flowers are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. Overall, the 2008 is a fairly mid-weight Tenuta Nuova, with less structure than the 2006 or 2007, but with plenty of early appeal. The dense, layered finish is highly appealing. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. VM 90+ (8/2013): (15% alcohol): Bright, full ruby-red. Red cherry, red licorice and pungent herbs on the nose. Supple, sweet and silky on entry, with reticent but pure red berry and flint flavors complicated by fresh herbs, flowers and a wild element of underbrush; firmed by solid acidity. Finishes with substantial building tannins and serious structure. Very suave and classically dry, but I would have liked a little more fruit for a higher score. The bottle's label carries a 30th vendemmia designation. |

| JS 99 (12/2014): This is very muscular for the vintage. It shows lots of stones, dark fruits and hints of tar. Full body, firm tannins and a chewy texture. Ripe and rich. Yet shows tension and intensity. This racy and structured. Tannic now but will show its greatness in 2018. As it should be from one of the masters but the new hand of his son Giovanni Neri is showing through with a touch more finesse. |

WA 96 (2/2018): This edition of Casanova di Neri's celebrated single-vineyard wine opens to a luminous garnet color and exuberant fruit aromas. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova offers a lot to the bouquet, from sweet cherry aromas to savory tones of tobacco and leather. This wine shows a powerful inner motor of flavor concentration and density that propels it forward. All that density and richness wraps thickly over the palate. This is a lasting wine of brawn and muscle. JS 95 (9/2018): Very fresh and floral on the nose with rose petals, cherries and hot stones. Medium to full body, linear and fine tannins and a fresh finish. So linear and focused. Wow. Drink in two or three years. |

| JS 99 (9/2019): The purity of fruit in this wine really strikes you with black cherries, combined with sage, lavender and rosemary. Extremely aromatic. Full-bodied, yet so tight and polished with incredible tannin structure that gives the wine an endless mouth feel of caressing tannins, acidity and fruit. There’s a fabulous saltiness and oyster-shell undertone to the fruit. Unique. Drinkable already, but this year there’s the structure to last decades. |

VM 96 (11/2025): Citrus-infused herbal tea, crushed raspberries, pine shavings and incense beguile as the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova blossoms in the glass. It is surprisingly juicy yet deep and complex, with tart wild berry saturation and nuances of ground clove that add cheek-pinching tension and a balancing tinge of zesty acidity. An array of edgy tannins frames the incredibly long finish, which is spicy and youthfully tense with a blackberry resonance. This is a fascinating vintage for Tenuta Nuova that shows a humbling level of complexity. (Drink between 2028-2046). Eric Guido. WA 96 (1/2026): The Casanova di Neri 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova comes across as more lifted and punchy compared to recent past vintages, showing a brighter fruit profile and added energy. I know that some whole-cluster fruit is used in the Giovanni Neri bottling, and there is a reminiscent aromatic effect on this wine that contributes to its primary freshness. The mouthfeel is medium-rich, and while the wine initially felt reserved, a return to the open bottle revealed a more expressive and harmonious profile, indicating that it benefits from time or a quick double decant. Introduced in the early 1990s, Tenuta Nuova marked a stylistic turning point for the estate, emphasizing precision, ripeness and site expression. The tannins are well managed and elegant, and the freshness arrives with well-judged intensity. Aging takes place for 30 months in tonneaux, rather than large casks, and production stands at 58,800 bottles. |
