Bourgogne Cuvee des Forgets ex-Domaine |

| |
BH 87 (6/2024): Bright aromas of just sliced citrus, white peach and pretty floral nuances are complemented by delicious middleweight flavors that are supported by lemon-tinged acidity on the vibrant, lingering and refreshing finale. Moreover, this is not your usual 'pop and pour' Bourgogne as it has the legs to repay 4 to 7 years of keeping. Worth checking out. Drink 2027+. Outstanding Top Value! JM 87-89 (10/2023): A similar colour, pale primrose perhaps. A little bit crisper and more classic in bouquet. Delicious white fruit, very balanced, feel the limestone, enough flesh yet with precision as well. A longer and more mineral finish than Forgets. |

| BH 93 (6/2021): (from a .17 ha holding in Pougets.) A gentle touch of wood sets off elegant, pure and exceptionally fresh aromas of just sliced green apple, citrus confit and discreet floral nuances. There is excellent volume and richness to the bigger and markedly more powerful flavors that brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract on the wonderfully long finish. This is presently very compact and will need time to unwind as well as to develop more depth. |

BH 95 (6/2024): (from a .17 ha holding in Pougets.) A very fresh, cool and beautifully layered nose freely reveals aromas of acacia blossom, citrus confit and a beautiful array of spice wisps. There is excellent size, weight and mid-palate density to the big-bodied and powerful flavors that culminate in a lemon, very clean and hugely long mineral-driven finale. This muscular effort is a block of stone at present and I would advise not touching a bottle for the first 7 to 8 years. With that said, if you can find it, and intend to cellar it, don't hesitate as this is a knockout of a Corton-Charlemagne. Drink 2034+. Don't miss! JM 93-95 (10/2023): This is still in barrel, unracked. Pale primrose, the bouquet is less easy to discern at this stage, with a minor oxidative note and some reduction. Put that to one side. On the palate this is classic, with a wealth of white fruit, a mineral underlay, a touch of oak too of course, some power and good length. Should emerge from its cocoon very soundly. |

| |
BH 90 (6/2024): Aromas of hazelnut, orange peel and acacia blossom introduce rich, concentrated and caressing medium-bodied flavors that possess a highly seductive texture while displaying excellent length on the balanced, firm and utterly delicious finale. This could use better depth though so at least a few years of keeping are recommended. Worth considering. Drink 2029+. Outstanding Top Value! JM 88-90 (10/2023): Pale lemon colour. Not much nose in these small glasses. There is good tension here on the palate, a crisp lemon note along with some fresh apples. Not immediately intense but with good length. A little touch of the positive youthful bitters. |

| |
| BH 91 (6/2021): (the name is a play on words as this is a .60 ha blend of two vineyards, Les Clous and Crotots.) Here too the wood influence is discreet and easily allows the ripe and airy aromas of apple, pear, olive oil and citrus elements to shine. There is excellent punch and an almost pungent minerality on the youthfully austere and firm finish that exhibits lovely balance. This is a bigger but not finer wine than the Tillets and is also lovely. Drink 2027+. Outstanding Top Value! |

BH 91 (6/2022): (the name is a play on words as this is a .60 ha blend of two vineyards, Les Clous and Crotots.) There is a vague whiff of the exotic to the ripe, fresh and pretty aromas of roasted nut, mineral reduction, white peach and tangerine peel. There is superb intensity and cut to the dense and tautly muscular medium weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the youthfully austere and impressively persistent and distinctly lemony finish. This is terrific for its level and recommended. Drink 2026+. Outstanding Top Value! VM 91 (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Les Clousots has a touch more definition and intensity on the nose compared to the Tillets, very elegant with hints of yellow flower and nectarine. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, good weight and concentration with tropical notes of pineapple and white peach towards the smooth finish. Quite seductive. Neal Martin. |

BH 92 (6/2024): A more elegant and spicier nose features aromas of wet stone, lemon-lime, plenty of floral elements and the barest hint of wood. The racy, beautifully detailed and refined middleweight flavors exude a borderline pungent minerality on the impressively long bitter zest-inflected finish. This is a classic, and entirely superb, Tillets of delicacy and restraint. Drink 2030+. Outstanding Top Value! JM 89-92 (10/2023): A light green tint in the colour, with a fresh and floral nose, as always with a touch of lime blossom. Fine energy on the palate without putting on too much flesh, indeed medium bodied, quite an elegant hillside Meursault. |

| BH 87 (6/2022): (85% from Meursault and Puligny Bourgogne vines and the rest from declassified St. Romain and Auxey-Duresses in equal proportions). A smoky mix of apple, pear and citrus leads to solidly voluminous and intense middle weight flavors that conclude in an appealingly crisp, clean and very dry finale. This is a very good Bourgogne that should also be capable of repaying a few years of keeping if desired. Drink 2024+. |

| BH 96 (6/2022): (from Ladoix, Pernand and Aloxe). Subtle notes of mineral reduction and wood toast can be found on the aromas of green apple, clove and white flowers. The wonderfully intense, focused and muscular large-scaled flavors brim with both dry extract and an almost aggressively minerality on the markedly dry but not really austere finale. Like the Chevalier and Montrachet, this beauty of a Corton-Charlemagne is presently very tightly wound and is going to need extended patience to arrive at its peak. This too should be gorgeous in time. Drink 2032+. |

| BH 96 (6/2022): (from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières). This is perhaps the most floral-suffused nose in the range with its aromas of essence of pear and plenitude of spice and citrus elements. Once again, the mid-palate mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is absolutely gorgeous, which contrasts noticeably with the cuts-like-a-knife finish that remains ultra-refined, balanced and persistent. This is most impressive, particularly for the remarkably fine volume and power that is delivered with grace and class. Drink 2030+. |

BH 95 (6/2023): An airy, cool and layered nose features notes of green apple, white flowers and discreet hints of mineral reduction and wood. The almost painfully intense, sleek and tension-filled flavors display beautiful cut and minerality while delivering superb length on the chiseled, linear and austere finale. This is an old school CC that is rich and ripe yet it cuts-like-a-knife. Impressive. WA 97 (6/2023): As I wrote earlier this year, Bonneau du Martray's 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of crisp Anjou pear, peach and nectarine mingled with white flowers, clear honey, nutmeg, mint and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's bright and concentrated, with terrific depth at the core and a long, saline finish. Seamless, intense and complete, this elegant, precise white Burgundy is built for the cellar. VM 93 (1/2023): The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was bottled in May 2022. It has a light bouquet at first, gaining intensity with time, scents of beeswax, chalk and touches of Mirabelle. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Quite tensile, backward and fine salinity. There is a pleasant residual spiciness here that comes through on the finish. The remainder of barrel maturation will lend more depth and weight and it will benefit from 3-5 years in bottle. Neal Martin. |

| VM 95 (7/2024): The 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru has a creamy nose with touches of white chocolate, almond and chamomile. However, considering the vineyard in question, I would have liked more mineralité and terroir expression. A bit of alcoholic warmth develops in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Tightly coiled citrus fruit, orange zest and patisserie, though it doesn't fully deliver the tour de force finish you want from a "Monty". Let's see what a few years in bottle will do. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Drink between 2028-2052. |

WA 90 (1/2023): Aromas of pear, crisp green apple, white flowers and hazelnut introduce Raphaël Coche's 2020 Bourgogne Blanc, a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny wine that's layered and concentrated, with racy acids and a precise, saline finish. This year, domaine fruit is complemented by a small parcel of purchased grapes from lieu-dit Magny in Meursault, not far from the domaine itself. BH 88 (6/2023): There is a trace of reduction, but it seems reasonably clear that the underlying fruit is both ripe and cool. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the delicious middleweight flavors that culminate in a long, balanced and complex finish where the only nit is a touch of rusticity. This is excellent for its level and highly recommended. VM 88 (1/2023): The 2020 Bourgogne Blanc has a vibrant bouquet, quite effervescent with orange zest and citrus peel. The palate is well balanced with ample weight, fine acidity, pear and grapefruit notes towards the finish. Drink over the next four to five years. Neal Martin. |

WA 93 (1/2023): The 2020 Meursault Village has turned out beautifully in bottle, unwinding in the glass with scents of crisp Anjou pear, lemon zest, freshly baked bread, blanched almonds, pastry cream and apple blossom. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, its textural attack segues into a fleshy, precise mid-palate that's animated by racy acids, concluding with a long, mouthwatering finish. It's another terrific rendition of this benchmark cuvée. BH 91 (6/2023): A more elegant and very Meursault nose combines notes of acacia and citrus confit with those of hazelnut and white orchard fruit, all of which is trimmed in a discreet application of wood. Here too there is outstanding density to the more powerful mouthcoating flavors that possess a more sophisticated texture while displaying excellent persistence on the balanced finish that is shaped by lemon-tinged acidity. This is lovely and a wine that should easily repay 10 to 12 years of keeping. (Drink starting 2030). |

JM 93-95 (6/2021): Lighter lemon yellow, the bouquet offering a light touch of menthol and especially anis. Deeper generous soil here but they think they have learnt to get the best out of it. Certainly a grand cru wealth of fruit, the acidity keeps the balance very nicely, a generous warm overcoat and good length. Nice wine! BH 92-94 (10/2021): This is restrained to the point of being all but aromatically mute though aggressive swirling eventually coaxes notes of green fruit, citrus peel and oyster shell nuances to reveal themselves. There is both excellent volume and concentration to the big-bodied, powerful and imposing flavors that are focused, structured and youthfully austere. This is very much a work in progress, and I would advise allowing this at least 5 years of cellaring and it should easily reward a decade or more. VM 92-94 (10/2021): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Grand Cru comes from six hectares of vines, southwest- and south-facing, forming the two different cuvées. The bouquet unfolds to offer lovely yellow fruit and oyster leaf aromas, well defined and quite generous. The palate is taut and crisp with fine acidity and moderate depth, but very pretty and composed toward the saline finish. There is plenty of substance already in situ and I foresee this aging with class. Neal Martin. |

WA 96 (7/2022): In a sense, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots offers a resumé of several of Fèvre's grand cru bottlings, uniting the taut musculature of Valmur and the ethereal, mineral profile of Les Preuses, with some of the perfumed sensuality of Vaudésir and fleshy texture of Bougros. The result is certainly a very compelling wine, exhibiting aromas of crisp green orchard fruit, white flowers, freshly baked bread, oyster jus and white peach, followed by a full-bodied, taut and layered palate that's seamless and complete, concluding with a pungently mineral finish. It's worth a special effort to seek out, though a decade's patience is warmly advised. BH 96 (9/2022): A deft application of wood lurks in the background of the aromas cool citrus, apple, mineral reduction and ocean breeze wisps. There is an almost painful intensity to the powerful but sleek and defined medium weight plus flavors that brim with minerality on the clean, very dry and hugely long finish. This is also potentially brilliant and well-worth considering. (Drink starting 2032). VM 93 (7/2024): The 2020 Chablis Bougros Côte Bouguerots Grand Cru has a crushed stone scented bouquet. A peppermint trace comes through with aeration. The nose is controlled and citrus-fresh, and I admire the energy. The palate is poised and concentrated, and a silver thread of acidity keeps this Grand Cru tensile and focused. Bright and lightly spiced towards the finish, this fans out with style. Excellent. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2025-2044). Neal Martin. |

WA 94 (7/2022): Bursting from the glass with aromas of vine blossom, orange zest, crisp white peach and honeycomb, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a seamless, elegantly fleshy profile and lively balancing acids. As is often the case, it's one of the more demonstrative grand cru bottlings in the range, yet its track record for longevity is impressive. BH 93 (9/2022): A discreet dollop of wood sets off the ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, passion fruit and subtle mineral reduction wisps. There is a positively gorgeous texture to the highly refined middleweight flavors that culminate in lightly stony, focused and sneaky long finish. This could use a bit more depth though overall, it is a classic Vaudésir of lace and grace that should generously reward a decade or so of cellaring. |

WA 92-94 (1/2022): One of the more reserved wines on the day of my tasting was the 2020 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive wine evocative of citrus zest, struck matches, white flowers and crisp green orchard fruit. Tightly wound but intensely flavored, it concludes with a chalky finish. BH 90-93 (6/2022): This too is quite cool, restrained and airy with its very pretty and ever-so-vaguely exotic aromas of passion fruit, white peach, jasmine tea and a whiff of acacia. The delicious, round and caressing medium weight flavors possess solid punch if only average concentration, all wrapped in an agreeably dry, firm and tightly wound finale. This is lovely though it will need to add depth to merit the upper end of my projected range. (Drink starting 2030). |

| BH 91-94 (6/2022): The hallmark notes of honeysuckle are present on the aromas of apple compote, acacia and vaguely exotic orange and tangerine peel. The nicely sleek, rich and beautifully textured medium weight flavors also possess a highly sophisticated mouthfeel while delivering fine depth and persistence on the tightly wound and built-to-age finale. This lovely effort will likely require at least 5 to 7 years to display enough of its potential to make it worthwhile to open a bottle. Drink 2032+. Outstanding! |

VM 93-95 (12/2021): The 2020 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru is crisp and precise on the nose, just as mineral-driven as the Charmes though there is a little more flintiness here. The palate has exquisite balance and poise, citrus peel and lime, very good weight towards the finish with hazelnut and fumé notes on the long and (again) spicy finish. Excellent. Neal Martin. BH 92-94 (6/2022): While compositionally similar to the Charmes, this is notably spicier while offering a hint of exotic tea as well. The pure, energetic and strikingly textured middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and dry extract on the balanced, youthfully austere and stony finale. This impressively persistent and very stylish effort is a wine of finesse and it too should amply reward mid to perhaps even longer-term cellaring. Drink 2028+. |

| BH 91 (6/2023): Pretty and cool yet ripe aromas consist of poached pear, green apple and acacia blossom. The racy and impressively intense flavors exude evident minerality on the chiseled, bone-dry and bone-dry finale. This refined, indeed even delicate, effort is decidedly compact and quite tightly wound so at least a few years of patience should be beneficial. Worth checking out as the quality is excellent for its level. (Drink starting 2027). |

| BH 90-92 (6/2022): A whiff of petrol can be found on the ripe aromas of white orchard fruit, especially white peach, citrus confit and a vaguely honeyed character. The succulent, round and delicious medium-bodied flavors exude a refreshing salinity on the clean and dry finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This should be approachable young but also be capable of rewarding 6 to 8 years of aging. Drink 2026+. |

VM 88? (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin Clos de la Chatenière 1er Cru has a slightly nutty, Meursault-like bouquet that needs a little more freshness. It feels a little more mature than a 2020. There is something a bit static about the aromatics. The palate is balanced with a tangy opening, a simple Chardonnay rather than a definable Saint-Aubin. It is fresh and boasts decent length, but it does not leave you beholden. N.B. I find this far superior at the Domaine, hence my lower score. Perhaps the bottle? Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. BH 92 (7/2023): There is just enough reduction to suppress the underlying fruit for the moment with the exception of a whisper of lemon zest. By contrast there is really lovely intensity to the precise, cool and restrained mineral-inflected middleweight flavors that terminate in a racy, clean and emphatically dry finale that displays only a trace of youthful austerity. This chiseled effort is excellent and akin to rolling tiny rocks around the mouth. |

WA 95 (1/2023): The 2020 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly wafts from the glass with aromas of white flowers, crisp stone fruit, honeycomb, orange oil and freshly baked bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping palate that's racy and precise, combining the aromatic expression and textural attack characteristic of its sunny exposition with the tension and cut appropriate to this high-altitude, stony site. BH 92 (6/2023): This is aromatically quite similar to the Chez Edouard but with more prominent citrus influence. There is notably better density to the equally beautifully textured medium-bodied flavors that flash excellent minerality on the solidly powerful, lengthy and impeccably well-balanced finale. Like the Gravières, this should be enjoyable young but have no trouble repaying up to a decade of bottle age. (Drink starting 2028). VM 88 (7/2024): The 2020 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru has a perfumed bouquet with wet pavement and limestone aromas, pinning this as an En Remilly. It just becomes a little diffuse with aeration. The palate is slightly chalky on the entry, has crisp acidity, and may be a little too sharp on the citric finish. I would also prefer more length here. I'm surprised this turned out to be Lamy, but that's blind tasting for you. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin. |

BH 89-92 (6/2022): The underlying fruit is presently masked by just enough reduction to blur the nuance. More interesting are the solidly concentrated and sappy flavors that possess even better volume before culminating in a mouth coating and unusually powerful finish that possess excellent depth and persistence for a wine at this level. Very fine quality for a villages-level Chassagne and well-worth checking out. VM 89-91 (12/2021): The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Village had been blended and fined. This is well-defined on the nose with lemon sherbet and light orange zest aromas, a very subtle mineral note that surfaces with time. The palate is well balanced with a hint of quince on the entry, quite taut and linear, plenty of freshness towards with just a very discrete pithiness. A fine Chassagne-Montrachet. Neal Martin. |

| BH 92 (1/2024): Extremely pretty aromas include those of white flowers and white fleshed fruit that is trimmed in both discreet spice and wood nuances. The wood influence is more prominent on the rich and full-bodied flavors that are blessed with ample amounts of dry extract before culminating in a relatively powerful, sappy and balanced finale. This is a classic Morgeot that could easily be enjoyed young or with up to a decade of keeping, which is what I would suggest as it's presently just a bit woody for my taste. (Drink starting 2030) |

| BH 95 (9/2022): A more elegant and ultra-cool nose reveals its combination of floral, citrus zest, iodine and that briny sea water character the best examples of Chablis all seem to possess, all of which is trimmed in moderate but not invasive wood. There isn't quite the same volume on the palate as the Butteaux, but the middleweight flavors are notably more refined before terminating in a driving, chiseled and citrusy bone-dry finale. I very much like the focused power of the finish and this classy effort should also amply reward extended cellaring. Drink 2032+. |

| BH 92-95 (6/2022): (from a .67 ha parcel of chardonnay.) There is a subtle note of petrol is present on the admirably pure and cool aromas of apple, pear, lemon-lime and mineral reduction. The succulent, concentrated and almost painfully intense larger-scaled flavors that brim with both dry extract and an almost aggressive stoniness that adds a sense of lift to the powerful yet refined, chalky and youthfully austere finale. This compact and linear effort is clearly very backward, and I would expect an almost glacial evolution in bottle though it should be well-worth the wait. A classic Musigny blanc. Drink 2032+. |

VM 89 (1/2018): Bright medium red. Lively perfume of raspberry, blood orange and flowers. Very pretty, leanish wine with excellent intensity and definition to its flavors of red fruits and flowers. This delightful Bourgogne includes a lot of Beaune villages and premier cru fruit, as production in these vineyards was too tiny to merit separate bottlings. Leroux made 10,000 bottles of this wine, and it's one to seek out. WA 88 (12/2017): The 2016 Bourgogne Rouge was aged in wooden tank, bottled mid-October and includes a potpourri of vineyards from here, there and everywhere that had been frosted. This has a delightful bouquet with vivid red cherry and strawberry fruit that is well defined and probably more like a village cru. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh red berry fruit mixed with bay leaf and a touch of black tea. I was smitten by this modest generic red and I bet it will be good value for money. BH 87 (4/2018): A pretty and very fresh nose is composed by notes of both red and dark berries and soft earth wisps. The sleek and delicious middle weight flavors possess good volume and a relatively refined mouth feel before concluding in a mildly austere and lingering finale. This is really quite good and worth considering. (Drink starting 2020). |

| BH 91-93 (10/2016): Soft wood notes float atop the beautifully spicy, ripe and fresh aromas of both red and dark currant, earth and a hint of cinnamon. There is terrific underlying material to the rich and wonderfully refined medium weight flavors that possess fine volume and mid-palate concentration that coats the palate on the lingering finish that is shaped by dense but fine tannins. This is first-rate and about the only nit of notice is a hint of backend warmth. (Drink starting 2021). |

| BH 89-91 (1/2014): A brooding and somber nose offers up notes of plum, various dark berries and subtle spice nuances. The lilting and lacy middle weight flavors exude a fine minerality on the delicious finish that is shaped by very fine-grained tannins and fine persistence. This is very Chambolle in character. (Drink starting 2018). |

VM 88 (3/2014): The 2011 Bourgogne is a pretty entry-level offering from Denis Bachelet. Blue/purplish fruit, sweet tobacco and licorice are some of the notes that inform the supple, easygoing finish. This is a terrific wine in its class. (Drink between 2014-2016). Antonio Galloni. WA 88 (2/2014): The entry-level 2011 Bourgogne Rouge has a lovely leafy bouquet with dark earthy fruit that feels natural and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with raspberry and strawberry fruit on the entry, fine tannins and a pleasant supple finish. This is uncomplicated and totally delicious. Drink now-2016. |

WA 88-90 (6/2015): The 2012 Bourgogne comes from two parcels in “Les Pressonnier” and “Les Grand Champs” and sees no new oak. It has a captivating bouquet of brambly black fruit that is very well defined. The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit on the entry, nicely judged acidity and a natural, pastille-like finish. This is uncomplicated but astutely crafted, downright delicious Burgundy. VM 88-90 (1/2014): A great introduction to the vintage here, Bachelet's 2012 Bourgogne is endowed with superb depth and purity in its class. Red stone fruits, plums, spices, menthol and licorice inform this striking, expressive beauty. There is a surprising amount of structure for a Bourgogne. (Drink between 2014-2020). Antonio Galloni. BH 87-89 (1/2014): There is a gentle touch of wood to the spicy red and dark berry fruit aromas that convey a real sense of earth that carries over to the impressively rich and utterly delicious flavors that despite the obvious ripeness retain a fine sense of energy and freshness on the lingering finish. This is a really good Bourgogne and absolutely worth a look. (Drink starting 2016). |

| VM 90-92 (1/2019): The 2017 Fixin Les Clos comes from a climat close to the Marsannay border, from one parcel of 1.30 hectares consisting of vines from 10 to 90 years old. It sees 20% new oak. It has an engaging, quite exuberant bouquet of vibrant red fruit infused with hints of violet; the oak is deftly enmeshed. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a little tighter than the Fixin Village and with more backbone and volume toward the finish. Amélie Berthaut told me that she will probably bottle this later than the Fixin Village, and I suspect it will gain a little density by then. One to watch. (Drink between 2021-2029). Neal Martin. |

| BH 88 (1/2006): Here the nose is slightly fresher with riper, fuller and more complex aromas and sappy, dusty and punchy flavors that are a bit more precise and while this is absolutely delicious, it is also altogether serious and delivers first rate finishing complexity. A really lovely effort that offers excellent overall balance and made in more of an old school style than the rest of the range. (Drink starting 2011). |

| BH 91 (4/2015): There are floral and herbal tea characters suffusing the black cherry and earth aromas. The textured, intense and well-detailed middle weight flavors exude a fine minerality on the overtly austere, persistent finish. This is also quite serious and will clearly need most of a decade of bottle age to arrive at its peak. (Drink starting 2020). |

| BH 90 (4/2016): A more elegant and wonderfully pure nose offers up airy notes of red currant, spice, lilac, rose petal and all but invisible wood. There is equally good purity to the attractively rich and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that also exude a fine bead of minerality on the beautifully refined and persistent finish. This is also dusty but not edgy as the tannins possess better phenolic maturity. (Drink starting 2021). |

| BH 88 (4/2016): A pretty and distinctly restrained nose features primarily notes of various red berries that are laced with whispers of spice, earth and floral nuances. There is a subtle trace of minerality present on the detailed and almost delicate middle weight flavors that terminate in a dusty and mildly austere finish that exhibits just a trace of edginess. Even though the balance is not ideal I like the obvious Volnay character. (Drink starting 2019). |

BH 89-92 (4/2018): An expressive nose speaks of essence of raspberry, earth, sauvage and a hint of wood. The dense super-ripe flavors brim with dry extract that coats the palate and imparts a velvety mouth feel to the mocha, bitter cherry pit and slightly warm finale. This muscular and mildly rustic effort is a very ripe 2016 yet the overall impression is one of freshness and energy. VM 89-92 (1/2018): Good dark red. Very ripe scents of dark raspberry and chocolate. Quite powerful but youthfully bound-up, with the impression of chocolatey richness carrying through the palate. Finishes with big but fine-grained tannins and a serious structure. Perhaps a bit overconcentrated but not out of whack. This wine will clearly need time in bottle to absorb some of its baby fat. Good stuff. (Drink starting 2023). |

|
| |
| BH 89-92 (4/2017): A pungent nose presently consists of wood and reduction. On the plus side though there is a lovely sense of freshness and underlying tension to the slightly more refined medium weight flavors, thanks primarily to the relatively fine-grained tannins that also shape the more obviously mineral-driven and firmer finish where once again hints of bitter cherry and rusticity can be found. This offers terrific quality for a Ladoix villages and is high recommended provided you have the intention of cellaring it for at least a few years. (Drink starting 2025). |

| BH 92 (4/2021): Spicy and moderately high-toned aromas of mostly red cherry and violet are trimmed in subtle nuances of wood toast. The sleek, intense and finer middle weight flavors possess good delineation that carries over to the firm, serious and youthfully austere finish that is the mostly complex and most structured in the range. This is definitely going to require at least some patience but is a wine that should be well worth the wait. (Drink starting 2029). |

BH 92 (4/2025): (from 25+ year old vines). An elegant, pure and airy nose is beautifully layered with its mix of spicy red and black pinot fruit aromas. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is markedly finer, indeed the word finesse springs to mind, and particularly so on the stony, detailed and well-balanced finale. A wine of lace and grace. Drink 2031+. JM 92-94 (10/2024): A fine crimson purple. A little fresher than the Frémiets, with pure red fruit, cherry and raspberry, a little more mouthfilling, stays youthful all the way through, very well mastered, an impressive Chevrets. Drink from 2029-2034. |

BH 91 (4/2025): Here the expressive nose is slightly riper and spicier with a similar mix of red and dark berries and exotic tea along with more floral elements. The sleek, caressing and nicely punchy middle weight flavors possess adequate mid-palate density together a refined, long and balanced finale. This is perhaps a bit finer than it usually is with solid development potential. Drink 2031+. JM 90-93 (10/2024): Frémiets, the limestone radiator, says Henri. Picked in good time, as the perfume of ripe raspberry with a little soft strawberry indicates. Satisfying across the palate with some energy at the finish, fully ripe but has kept its balance and with adequate acidity. The tannins are fully ripe. Drink from 2029-2034. |

WA 92 (1/2023): The 2020 Marsannay Clos de Jeu has turned out especially well, offering up aromas of sweet cherries, mulberries, licorice and toasty new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate that's deep and vibrant, with powdery tannins and a precise finish. VM 90 (1/2023): The 2020 Marsannay Clos de Jeu offers more red fruit on the nose than its Marsannay brethren, slightly savoury with crushed stone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, nicely proportioned with a more refined and tensile finish than other cuvées. Recommended. (Drink between 2025-2035). Neal Martin. BH 89 (1/2023): This is aromatically quite similar to the Boivin though with a note of red cherry coulis. The dense, powerful and muscular medium weight flavors are not quite as vibrant though they are just as firm, serious and youthfully austere on the better-balanced finale though note that there is a touch of warmth. (Drink starting 2030). |

WA 91+ (1/2023): The 2020 Marsannay Les Ouzeloy is showing very well, bursting with notes of dark berries and plums mingled with licorice and spices. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with good concentration and powdery structuring tannins, it's built for the cellar. VM 87 (1/2023): The 2020 Marsannay Les Ouzeloy has a tight-knit nose with blueberry and boysenberry fruit that retain fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, figgy entry, perhaps quite Tuscan in style with good length on the finish. Fine. (Drink between 2025-2038). Neal Martin. BH 87 (1/2023): Completely opaque appearance. The very ripe yet quite fresh and expressive nose presents aromas of red and dark cherry, poached plum and newly turned earth. There is outstanding concentration to the suave, mouthcoating and almost thick flavors are buffered almost impressive intensity on the rustic, firm and moderately grippy finish that also comes up somewhat short. This is also completely atypical. (Drink starting 2028). |

VM 88 (10/2019): The 2016 Volnay Les Angles 1er Cru comes across a little confit-like on the nose, suggesting that it might have been picked a day or two too late. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, quite bold and assertive in style with a slightly monotone finish that never kicks on. I wonder if this Volnay is simply undergoing an awkward stage? Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting in Burgundy. (Drink between 2021-2032). Neal Martin. BH 90-92 (1/2018): A relatively high-toned and more elegant nose features notes of red currant, cherry, raspberry and a hint of lavender. The super-sleek, indeed almost lacy middle weight flavors display more minerality if less density before terminating in a lingering finish that tightens up noticeably on the dusty and mildly austere finale. VM 88-90 (1/2025): The 2023 Bourgogne Rouge Bon Baton comes from a parcel adjacent to Ghislaine Barthod's on stonier soils, aged mostly in one-year-old barrels. Lightly perfumed on the nose, this conjures raspberry, strawberry and wild hedgerow scents, more complex than your common or garden Bourgogne Rouge. The palate is medium-bodied with satisfying concentration, not weighty or dense but light on its feet with commendable purity and grip on the finish. Traces of tobacco emerge on the aftertaste. Village Cru in quality. (Drink between 2026-2031). Neal Martin. JM 87-89 (10/2024): An even purple colour. A very attractive stylish perfumed floral nose, with a little more body than the regular. Not massively concentrated but distinguished in its length. Sound acidity. The flavours stay with you. Drink from 2026-2030. BH 86-89 (1/2025): A slightly riper and more deeply pitched nose features aromas of dark cherry, poached plum and freshly turned earth. The delicious if not especially dense flavors do possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before culminating in a youthfully austere, lingering and mildly austere finale. This is also very good for its level and worth checking out. Drink 2027+. Outstanding! |

BH 91-93 (1/2025): (from the villages portion of the vineyard.) A more elegant, more floral and more expressive nose freely offers up its mostly cool red cherry, spice and a similar hint of crushed anise. The mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is positively gorgeous, even silky, with an almost pungent minerality adding a sense of lift to the long, balanced and youthfully austere finale. This is a stunningly good Chambolle villages that would make many a premier cru blush - highly recommended. Drink 2031+. Outstanding! JM 90-93 (10/2024): An even ruby purple. Here the nose stands up and speaks of the vineyard, with nothing too solar in style. The dark raspberry fruit, with some cherry overtones, fills the palate very nicely with a positive structure of medium tannins and a little acidity provide an interesting rearguard, Drink from 2028-2034. VM 88-90 (1/2025): The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras has a fresh and expressive bouquet of black cherries, raspberry and subtle violet scents, gradually revealing just a hint of forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied with a taut opening. Leaner than the 2022 with moderate length, this just requires a little more flesh toward the citric finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle. |
| |
VM 91-93 (1/2025): The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Barrières comes from a single 0.70-hectare parcel in the north of the appellation. It doesn't quite click into gear on the nose like the wonderful 2022, rather it is perhaps more discrete with loamy scents percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm grip. Fine tannins and a conspicuous, almost briny marine influence develop toward the finish, lending another dimension. It coheres nicely in the glass and it should give 12 to 15 years' drinking pleasure. (Drink between 2027-2042). Neal Martin. JM 90-92 (10/2024): Ruby with a crimson rim. Less immediately expressive than the Nuits-St-Georges Vieilles Vignes, with in any case a different fruit profile, demonstrating the terroir of the north side of Nuits, beginning to flirt with Vosne-Romanée. The class shows on the second half of the palate and in the persistence, across more refined tannins. Horses for courses. Drink from 2028-2033. BH 89-91 (1/2025): (from a .70 ha holding.) An equally cool and slightly spicier nose speaks of the essence of red plum, newly turned earth and dark currant. The very supple, even caressing medium weight flavors possess fine punch and a subtle minerality on the firm, powerful and serious finale. Fine quality here as well. Drink 2031+. Outstanding! |

WA 89-91 (1/2023): Aromas of red berries, orange zest and rose petals introduce the 2021 Nuits-Saint-Georges Vieilles Vignes, a medium-bodied, fleshy and perfumed wine with melting tannins and a saline finish. It's an especially charming, fragrant rendition of this perennially reliable cuvée. BH 89-91 (1/2023): A more deeply pitched nose offers up its notes of various dark berries, cool earth and a hint of crushed fennel. The rich, delicious and more voluminous medium weight flavors possess notably better depth and persistence if also more evident rusticity. This is a very good Nuits villages and worth considering. JM 90-93 (10/2023): A rich purple colour. The bouquet has the attractive sumptuous qualities of fully ripe fruit picked before it starts to turn. BH 89-91 (1/2024): ( from Les Danguerrins, Aux Croix and Babillières.) Here too there is just enough wood to merit mentioning on the ripe if decidedly cool aromas of red and dark pinot fruit, anise, violet and a hint of exotic tea. VM 90-92 (1/2025): The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from vines over 50 years old from three lieux-dits. Tightly knit on the nose, this adds just a soupçon of blue fruit to the bouquet that's a little floral with admirable vigor. Just a hint of kirsch emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip on the entry. This is a solid Chambolle-Musigny, though the finish should be tighter with more flow. It's just a bit static at the moment. Give this a couple of years in bottle. (Drink between 2027-2040). NEal Martin. JM 89-91 (10/2024): Purchased grapes. Medium purple with a lighter rim. This carries Chambolle qualities, some violets, not quite the coffee, medium bodied, good acidity again, a mid-range Chambolle for the medium term. Drink from 2027-2031. BH 88-91 (1/2025): (from Les Danguerrins, Aux Croix and Babillières). A pretty if brooding nose is comprised by notes of various dark berries, violet and crushed anise. The super-sleek, delicious and intense medium-bodied flavors are not particularly dense but they do possess, much like the CdNV, a highly seductive mouthfeel before concluding in a youthfully austere and ever-so-mildly edgy finish. The edginess will probably round out if given a few years and note that my projected range offers the benefit of the doubt. Drink 2029+. |

VM 89-91 (1/2025): The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages comprises two-thirds fruit purchased from Clombanchien, and the rest Domaine fruit from En Luret lieu-dit. Blackcurrant and raspberry combine nicely on the nose, not concentrated per se, yet showing decent clarity and purity. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly granular texture on the entry, lightly peppered though there are no stems in the blend. Focused and harmonious toward the finish, this is a worthy follow-up to the 2022. (Drink between 2027-2037). Neal Martin. JM 89-90 (10/2024): A mix of their own vines, one third from Au Leurey, and the rest purchases in Comblanchien. There is more depth to the purple colour here. A perfumed nose with a more sensual and floral bouquet redolent of the sunshine. Good acidity behind, medium density, some length. Drink from 2027-2030. BH 88-91 (1/2025): (mostly from Belle-Vue in Comblanchien with small amounts of Les Loges, Les Leurey and Vaucrains.) This is aromatically similar to the Bon Bâtons but with notably more spice influence. The supple, delicious and energetic medium weight flavors possess a highly seductive, even velvety, texture while displaying very good length and depth on the balanced bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. Drink 2028+. |
