JD 93-95 (5/2025): The 2023 Saint Joseph La Sensonne is another gorgeous wine in the making. Offering lots of cassis, spice, dried flowers, and beautifully integrated oak, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, balanced mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great finish. All Syrah aging in 100% new oak, I love its overall balance, purity, and length.
VM 90-92 (1/2025): The 2023 Saint-Joseph La Sensonne is heavily marked by the oak-derived components at this early stage, unwinding intense hints of cedar, clove and even charred wood, mingling with black plum and spicy traits. Medium- to full-bodied and extroverted, the 2023 shouldn’t be touched prior to 2026. This is a bold, blockbuster-styled Saint-Joseph. Nicolas Greinacher.

JD 95 (11/2020): The 2018 Saint Joseph L'Olivaie is a more serious, concentrated wine offering a touch of background oak as well as impressive cassis and blackberry fruits, full-bodied richness, notes of pepper and Asian spice, building tannins, and a great finish. It shows more minerality and an almost gunflint-like character with time in the glass. It needs a solid 3-5 years of bottle age, but it should see its 20th birthday in fine form.
VM 93 (4/2020): Glass-staining ruby. Highly perfumed aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, vanilla and smoky minerals, plus a sexy floral note in the background. Gently sweet and expansive on the palate, offering supple blackberry and cherry compote flavors that show sharp clarity and very good depth. Decanter 92 (9/2022): Sparky herbal notes on the nose, with thyme and rosemary. There’s some roundness on the palate thanks in part down to the oak, which isn't overly dominating. Good presence on the palate thanks to the firm tannins, and a fairly long finish. A good option in 2021. 60-year-old vines, all destemmed, 15% new oak.
JD 90-92 (12/2022): The 2021 Saint Joseph L'Olivaie is rock-solid, offering pretty darker cherry and fresh fig-like notes as well as spice, game, and flowery incense nuances. This medium-bodied, supple, nicely balanced, and textured effort has outstanding potential and will certainly drink nicely right out of the gate. |

It's ripe yet stays vibrant and light on its feet. |

JD 93-95+ (3/2024): The 2022 Saint Joseph La Sensonne is always a slightly more modern style effort and see some new barrels, although I never feel it loses its classic character. It has a killer perfume of cassis and darker currants that give way to beautiful graphite, scorched earth, violets, and spicy wood nuances. This beauty is medium to full-bodied, has textbook Saint Joseph minerality, fine yet building tannins, and a great, great finish. This is one to seek out. |

JD 91 (12/2022): A great introduction to the wines of this terrific vigneron, the 2020 Saint Joseph Silice has classic darker berry fruits as well as peppery herbs, violets, and some obvious minerality on both the nose and palate. These carry to a medium-bodied effort with good acidity, firm yet ripe tannins, and outstanding length.
JS 91 (2/2022): An interesting nose of blackberries and blueberries with some graphite and leather adding interest. Robust structure for a St.-Joseph with plenty of pepper and spice, but the fruit is more than adequate to carry all this. Good length, if not tremendously complex. Sustainable. Drinkable now, but best from 2023. |

Black raspberries, spice box, dried flowers, and hints of violets give way to a medium-bodied, up-front, charming, layered 2021 that certainly stands out in the vintage.
Decanter 91 (9/2022): Neat, well-balanced and fresh, with sappy acidity. It's a relatively light St-Joseph, as is common for the vintage, but they've found a good balance and reflected the vintage as well as it could be. Gently herbal streak and a touch of juniper. |

WA 99+ (10/2025): The 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape from Clos des Papes is exquisite, wafting from the glass with a captivating bouquet of sweet red berries, iris, dark cherries, menthol, blood orange and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and textured, it’s denser than usual, with a more pronounced structure and a lovely, fleshy core of fruit. Concluding with an ethereal, saline and weightless finish, this is a strong candidate for wine of the vintage—one that should evolve with grace over the coming years to attain a likely perfect score.
JD 96 (11/2025): Bottled in May and based on 55% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, and the rest a mix of permitted varieties, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape was completely destemmed and brought up entirely in foudre. Its medium ruby hue is followed by a gorgeously complex nose of red and black fruits, Provençal spices, and roasted meats. It's medium to full-bodied, with a seamless, layered, ultra-classy style that will drink beautifully for 20-25 years. Drink 2025-2048.
VM 95 (10/2025): Cassis pastilles, licorice, ripe blackberry, herbal tones and peppery accents introduce the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which was bottled in May 2025. Gently wrapped around smooth tannins with less apparent structure than the preceding 2022 vintage, the 2023 is an open-knit, accessible but ageworthy red Clos des Papes, hitting the palate with boatloads of jammy strawberry flavors. JD 93 (2/2026): Ruby/purple-hued and semi-opaque, the 2023 Cornas offers perfumed cherries, black raspberries, smoked meat, leather, and spicy, floral nuances on the nose. It's medium-bodied and has a supple, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, polished, and nicely integrated tannins, no hard edges, and outstanding length. I followed this bottle for multiple days, and it held up beautifully and was always a joy to drink. It's going to evolve gracefully over the coming 10-15 years. Drink 2026-2041.
VM 92 (1/2026): The 2023 Cornas lets out early fragrances of ripe dark plum, black cherry and spicy undertones. Graphite dust adds more layers. Medium-bodied and smoothed-out, the 2023 touches the palate with well-pitched substance, clocking out with feather-light precision on the ferrous finish. Nicolas Greinacher.
WA 91 (3/2025): Crafted from 15 different plots and matured for 14 months in used barrels, the 2023 Cornas reveals an enticing, elegant bouquet of spices, mulberries and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, gourmand and fresh, it's elegantly layered with a juicy core of fruit framed by velvety tannins. Concluding with a long and ethereal finish, this attractive, well-crafted wine was fermented with 15% whole bunches. |

JD 96 (2/2026): Cut from the same cloth as the regular release, the 2023 Cornas Pur Noir is a single parcel selection that sports a deeper ruby, almost opaque hue as well as a killer nose of black raspberries, smoky garrigue, pepper, and game. It's medium to full-bodied and has a concentrated, wonderfully balanced mouthfeel, ripe yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. This spicy, complex, layered Cornas benefits from air and will have two decades of overall longevity. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Drink 2026-2046.
VM 94 (1/2026): The dashing 2023 Cornas Pur Noir uses grapes from the slopy section of the Champelrose lieu-dit, opening with prominent peppercorn, pencil shavings, ripe blackberry and spice box aromas. Medium to full-bodied and firmly built like a skyscraper, the 2023 is a gorgeous Pur Noir, packing discernible length and gently sleekened tannins all the way through to the elongated finale. It's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a more forward, charming, clean style. It already offers pleasure yet will evolve for 15+ years in cold cellars. VM 93 (1/2026): The 2023 Cornas Vin Noir first lifts with pronounced spice box, ripe blackberry, smoky tones and pencil shavings. With a bit of aeration finely layered raspberry compote emerges. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
