VM 94+ (10/2017): The 2014 Barbaresco Masseria is superb. Dark, ample and structured, the 2014 captures all the pedigree of this important Barbaresco vintage. As always, the Vietti's Masseria is a wine that has Barolo-like structure and depth, partly because it is vinified and aged pretty much along the same lines as those wines. I expect the 2014 will require at least a handful of years to shed some tannin and start showing some of its inherent inner sweetness. There is so much to look forward to. Bright acids and a firm spine of tannin give the red-toned fruit energy and vivacity throughout. Antonio Galloni. WA 93+ (6/2018): Call it the 2014 paradox: this controversial vintage has in fact produced some stellar wines, especially in the Barbaresco appellation. The 2014 Barbaresco Masseria is a softly textured wine with a yielding and velvety personality. It reveals a dark color and hearty disposition. It is generous and soft, requiring little cellar aging before it reaches its drinking prime. The 2014 vintage was hotter and saw less rain in Barbaresco compared to Barolo. Sandy soils in the Barbaresco appellation help to shape delicate and nuanced wines with bright floral and dark fruit aromas. Sandy soils dry out faster in the hot years because they drain any existing moisture too well. That's why a cooler and wetter vintage like 2014 is particularly well suited to Nebbiolo in Barbaresco. |

| VM 97 (2/2020): The 2016 Barbaresco Masseria is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Powerful and explosive with stunning lift, the 2016 is just gorgeous. Dried flowers, mint, blood orange, red cherry and chalk infuse the 2016 with striking layers of nuance, but it is the wine's balance and total sense of harmony that leave the deepest impression. Vivid, powerful and wonderfully alive in the glass, the Masseria will thrill readers lucky enough to own it. The 2016 is such a stunning wine. The Masseria is a blend of several sites built around a core of fruit from Giaccone, in Treiso, along with Pora and Faset, both in Barbaresco. All I can say is: Wow! Antonio Galloni. |

JD 93 (5/2023): The 2020 Barbera D'Alba Vigna Scarrone takes on a deeper, more layered character, with floral boysenberry, violet, and cedar. It has medium to full body, with a stony mouthfeel and notes of mocha, turned earth, and fresh black plum. A bit of delicate smokiness works nicely into its framework, and it has a long finish. Drink 2024-2034. VM 94 (12/2022): The 2020 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone is stellar. Rich and expansive, the 2020 is laced with the essence of dark cherry fruit, rose petal, cinnamon, leather and mocha are front and center. All the elements all come together so effortlessly. Floral and spice notes reappear on the finish. This is such a classy and polished Barbera. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 91 (9/2021): The 2019 Barbera d'Alba Tre Vigne is soft, fruity and very easy to like. Crushed raspberry fruit, sweet spice, mint and licorice are all kicked up in this tasty, mid-weight Barbera. The 2019 is a real charmer. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 94 (4/2009): The estate’s 2005 Barolo Brunate is a brooding, mysterious wine that possesses a level of sheer concentration and richness that is exceedingly rare in this vintage. It is also an incredibly primary, full-bodied Barolo that will require significant patience, but all of the signature Brunate notes are in the glass, and this Barolo should develop into a splendid wine over the coming years. This is another awesome effort from Vietti. I may be underestimating this wine, as it is ridiculously great even at this early stage. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2035. VM 92+ (12/2009): Good full red. Restrained but complex nose hints at musky brown spices, tobacco, violet, minerals and smoke. Suave and silky on entry, then quite backward in the middle, with a serious spine currently dominating. Finishes with substantial tannic structure and a slight youthful dryness. I like this wine's light touch but it's most attractive today on the nose. |

VM 92 (11/2011): Palish bright red. Scented nose offers red cherry, mint and an ineffable floral perfume. Juicy, intense and delineated, with lovely orange peel lift to its sweet red fruit and floral flavors. The finish coats the mouth with dusty, fine tannins. Remarkably harmonious for a base-level Barolo made from 5 or 6 of the family's 15 Barolo crus. Stephen Tanzer. JS 92 (7/2011): A wine with a solid core of ripe berry fruit with cedar undertones. Full and chewy. Needs time to open. So much gorgeous fruit. Give it three to four years of bottle age. |

| VM 94 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Castiglione is beautiful in the way it brings together the vibrancy of the year with a soft, inviting textural presence. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet spices, anise and red berries are all woven together nicely in the glass. With time in the glass, the wine blossoms with exquisite finesse, floral aromatics and exquisite overall balance. Ripe, silky tannins support the exquisite finish. An insanely beautiful wine, the 2010 will give readers a good idea of just how great the 2010 vintage is at Vietti. The Barolo Castiglione is made from a large number of parcels across the Barolo zone, many of which are of a high enough level of quality that they could be bottled separately. This is first-class juice. |

| VM 91 (2/2019): Vietti's 2015 Barolo Castiglione is soft, silky and pliant, all qualities that make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Floral and nicely lifted, the 2015 is very pretty, if not quite the overachiever it can be. I expect the 2015 will be even more expressive once the tannins soften a bit further. In this tasting, the Castiglione stands out for its freshness and energy. Time in the glass brings out an extra layer of textural breadth and resonance that is not immediately apparent. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 94 (1/2023): The 2019 Barolo Castiglione is elegant, translucent and classy. Crushed red berry fruit, orange peel, mint and cinnamon all grace this elegant, wonderfully nuanced Barolo from Vietti. I especially admire the energy here. In many vintages, the Castiglione is easygoing and quite accessible, but I see the 2019 needing a few more years to come into its own. I especially admire its focus and cut. Antonio Galloni. JD 93 (5/2023): Moving into more classically styled Barolo, the 2019 Barolo Castiglione has benchmark pure aromas and character of blood orange, raspberry licorice, fresh herbs, and fresh red flowers. It is taut with good intensity and is gripping with ripe tannins, driving but not harsh acidity, and a rocky mineral texture. Pure and clean, with red berries, turned earth, and bergamot, this is another outstanding entry to the range of Barolo from Vietti that will be deserving of time in cellar and drink well 2025-2040. | VM 96 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Lazzarito is impeccably polished, silky and refined, especially for a Serralunga Barolo. Mint, violets, black fruit, smoke and deep layers of spices are some of the many notes that flesh out on the inviting, textured finish. Today, the Lazzarito is incredibly primary to the point of being raw and undeveloped, but it is explosive, bursting with energy and flat-out great. This is also the first recent vintage I can remember tasting where the French oak is more in line with the other single-vineyard Barolos. Antonio Galoni. |

| VM 95 (3/2015): The 2011 Barolo Lazzarito is fabulous in this vintage. Rich, ample and structured, the 2011 is both opulent and savory in style. Iron, plums, dark red cherries, smoke, licorice and tobacco meld together in a remarkably harmonious young Serralunga Barolo. This is the first year the Vietti Lazzarito includes a second recently acquired parcel, which may be one of the factors that influences quality, but at the same time, the Lazzarito has been the most improved Barolo in the range. All the elements come together in the 2011, a wine that has it all. This is a great showing from the Lazzarito. Best of all, readers won't have to wait forever to enjoy this beautiful, pedigreed Barolo. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97+ (1/2023): The 2019 Barolo Monvigliero is stunning. What a wine. Rich, heady and explosive, the 2019 is a gorgeous, spherical Barolo that dazzles right out of the gate. Aromatically broad and expansive, the 2019 fleshes out beautifully in the glass. Bright red-toned fruit, orange zest, mint, spice and bright saline notes saturate the palate on the back end. The 2019 is a total stunner, even in this stage of youthful austerity. It comes across as a bit rustic compared to the 2018, but the final verdict on that won't be evident for at least a number of years. This is the first vintage that includes a second parcel in Monvigliero. In the cellar, one lot saw submerged cap maceration, the other did not. (Drink between 2029-2049). Antonio Galloni. WA 97 (8/2023): This is the wine Luca Currado and Elena Penna are most excited to present. And because this charming couple would leave the helm of the winery shortly after my visit with them, I like to consider the 2019 Barolo Monvigliero a symbolic send-off. Making Nebbiolo from Monvigliero is often a question of technique more than anything else, they tell me, and the learning curve is arduous. This wine sees 60% whole cluster fermentation in a single vat. Having some destemmed grapes makes fermentation easier to control. Family friend Fabio Alessandria of Comm. G.B. Burlotto offered tips on how to avoid volatile acidity or other problems with long maceration times. In fact, Vietti was able to acquire directly from Fabio Alessandria their 8,000-square-meter parcel in Monvigliero located at 300 meters in elevation on a high plain. "He passed the ball to us," says Luca Currado. JD 94 (5/2023): There is a light rustic tone in this elegant, medium-framed wine from the north in Verduno. Notes of fresh leather, pomegranate, and sweet herbs are followed by a medium-bodied wine with fine and approachable tannins. It is an elegant, more gentle expression but offers a lot of pleasure. Drink 2023-2040. Audrey Fick. |

| |
| VM 100 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Ravera is one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted from Vietti. Stunning. It's as simple as that Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices, crushed rocks and pine jump from the glass in a vivid, crystalline wine endowed with captivating purity, clarity and finesse. The 2010 takes hold of the palate and never lets up, gaining body, breadth and volume over time. A breathtaking, perfumed finish rounds out the finish. The Ravera represents a bit of a stylistic departure for Vietti and a return to a more traditional style of winemaking. The 2010 was done entirely in cask, with minimal racking. In its early years, it was virtually impossible to taste as the reductive winemaking style gave a wine with closed aromatics and searing tannin. Today, the 2010 is beginning to blossom into an epic Barolo. The 2010 Ravera may well be the single greatest Barolo Luca Currado has ever made. It is also a wine that, along with the Barolos of Elvio Cogno, show just how much potential the hills of Ravera have to offer. Readers who can find the 2010 Ravera should not hesitate. It is a legendary, benchmark Barolo in the making. As an aside, a bottle of the 1999 I tasted last year was extraordinary, and it was made in the slightly more modern style that was typical at Vietti during that era. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 100 (2/2017): The 2013 Barolo Ravera is a real stunner. An exceptional, brilliant wine, the 2013 Barolo Ravera possesses breathtaking aromatics, translucent fruit and energy to burn. In 2013, the Ravera is dark and brooding, with fabulous intensity and the linear, focused precision that is the signature of this site in Novello. I have tasted and followed the 2013 Ravera for a number of years. It has never been anything less than thrilling. It is all that and more today. Readers who can find the 2013 should not hesitate, as it is tremendous. Antonio Galloni. WA 98 (8/2017): This is a stunning wine. The 2013 Barolo Ravera is a jaw-dropping creation that boasts soaring intensity with absolute clarity and purity of its aromatic impact. The bouquet is layered and rich with dark fruit, soft spice and cured tobacco. The integration of its aromas is seamless, polished and silky. But the wine is also compact and tightly wound around itself, meaning it still needs time to peel back like the opening petals of a rose bud. Give it at least five more years of cellar aging. The wine imparts a perfect Nebbiolo mouthfeel, showing intensity and firmness with an incredibly long and smoky finish. JS 97 (1/2017): Fresh and viivid with strawberry, rose petal, and sandalwood. Full body, firm and silky with a beautiful balance and length. A fabulous young Barolo. Try in 2020. |

| VM 95 (2/2019): The 2015 Barolo Ravera is once again the head of the class at Vietti. Bright, sculpted and wonderfully nuanced, the Ravera is very pretty. Floral aromatics and the pointed, brilliant fruit that is such a Ravera signature are very much in evidence. Hints of blood orange, mint, crushed rocks and flowers add shades of complexity as the 2015 gradually opens up in the glass. This is one of the finer wines of the year. Don't miss it! Freshly cut flowers, white pepper and mint lend energy to a wine that is very shy and tightly wound today. Then again, it is Ravera. WA 98 (8/2023): The 2019 Barolo Ravera is a wine of impact and power, and it is also a wine of the future. That's because Ravera (in the village of Novello) is one of the break-out sites that continues to awe and surprise despite a changing climate. Indeed, its high elevation and open panorama toward snow-capped mountains keeps the microclimate ventilated but also protected. Luca Currado affirms that Ravera is what Cannubi was just a few years ago. Wines from Novello also show an extraordinary but very unique evolution in which the tannic impact of the wine remains firm. This vintage shows deep intensity and good freshness. It fully covers the palate from front to back. JD 96 (5/2023): The 2019 Barolo Ravera is supple with aromas of licorice, raspberry liqueur, blood orange. It is medium to full-bodied, offering more citrus ripeness throughout, as well as notes of tea leaf and grenadine, fine tannins, and fresh acidity, without feeling austere. This is an adjacent property to Cogno’s prized section of Ravera Pernice. Drink 2024-2044. Audrey Frick. |

| VM 92 (5/2024): The 2006 Chianti Classico Castello di Ama is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic maturity. Even so, it remains quite youthful. Scents of sweet tobacco, leather, licorice, cured meats and dried herbs are so suggestive. I expect the 2006 will continue to drink well for another decade, maybe more, given its depth. The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, Merlot and Canaiolo. (Drink between 2024-2036) |

JS 95 (5/2017): A clarity and brilliance to this Solaia now with plums, light chocolate and meat. Full body and round and soft tannins. Juicy and delicious. Just right now where it shows the fruit and light tertiary qualities on the nose and palate. Excellent. VM 94 (11/2015): Inserted blind between the 2005 Margaux and Mouton, Antinori's 2006 Solaia performed admirably well, especially considering these were not the best bottles of the 2006 I have come across. In that context, the fact that the 2006 Solaia held up well in this flight is notable. I chose the 2006, because 2005 was not as strong in Tuscany as it was in Bordeaux, so the wine would have been at a distinct disadvantage in this setting. Antonio Galloni. WA 94 (8/2009): The estate’s 2006 Solaia is a big, powerful offering loaded with ripe blackberry jam, herbs, minerals and French oak. Like all of the 2006s from Antinori, the Solaia remains extraordinarily dense and primary. Readers will have to be patient with this wine and give it plenty of bottle age before the full range of its aromas and nuances blossom fully. Solaia is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026. |

| WA 92 (8/2009): The 2006 Tignanello is especially opulent in this vintage. Masses of dark red fruit, scorched earth and sweet oak emerge as this richly-textured Tignanello flows from the glass. The wine possesses superb density; all it needs is another few years to come together. Today it is remarkably vibrant and primary. Tignanello is 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. |

| VM 94 (4/2012): The 2006 Barolo Villero is a gorgeous, mid-weight Barolo. Scents of tobacco, licorice, mint and new leather lead to a core of expressive dark red fruit. There is an exotic quality to the 2006 that is hard to define with words. The 2006 is a super-classic Villero. It doesn't have a ton of structure, instead it is a wine built on energy and length, both of which it has in spades. Antonio Galloni. |

| WA 98 (5/2011): The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino literally explodes onto the palate with masses of dark cherries, plums, wild herbs, menthol and spices. Hard candy and gorgeous inner perfume emerge from a sweet, ripe and totally expressive core. The finish is elegant, decisive and eternal. At times the Cerbaiona 2006 has been surprisingly dark and weighty while other tastings have shown the more finessed side of the wine. Either way, it is a Brunello to buy and bury in the deepest corner of the cellar. It is a mythical, legendary wine in the making. The Brunello spent 40 months in cask. WA 96+ (12/2010): The 2006 Barolo Cascina Francia is a deep, muscular wine endowed with superb richness, inner perfume and structure. From cask this has always been an intense, inward Barolo and now that it is in bottle, those qualities seem even more prominent. Over time, the classic Cascina Francia bouquet of roses, tar, herbs and licorice comes forward, but only reluctantly. A massive wall of tannins prevents the fruit from emerging, but every now and then the wine shows hints of its ultimate potential. The finish alone is breathtakingly beautiful for its balance and inner sense of harmony. The 2006 is not as showy young as other recent great vintages such as 2001 or 2004, so I will not be surprised if it is overlooked, but it is a magnificent Barolo that only needs time, and lots of it. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2046. JS 94 (1/2011): This is very floral on the nose with a touch of fresh cut ripe berries. This is a big wine but still a touch reserved, with lots of sweet tannins. Fresh acidity rounds out the finish. Don't start thinking about this wine until 2016. VM 92-94 (12/2009): Good deep red. Black raspberry, sour cherry, mocha and cedar on the nose. Sweet, dense and velvety, with a three-dimensional texture to the flavors of black fruits, licorice and violet. Projects an impression of medicinal reserve and power allied to great sweetness. Finishes with big but fine-grained and thoroughly ripe tannins and palate-staining black fruits. |

| WA 94+ (4/2012): The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva emerges from the glass with freshly cut flowers, sweet red berries, licorice and spices all wrapped around a sensual, elegant frame of notable class. Considerable aeration is needed to bring out the wine’s depth and textural richness. This is an excellent wine, but more often than not I am attracted more to the straight Brunello here, as is the case again in 2006. Costanti gave the 2006 Riserva 36 months in oak, 18 months in medium-sized barrels followed by 18 months in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. |

| WA 96 (1/2009): The 2006 Flaccianello della Pieve (Sangiovese) is just as extraordinary as it was when I tasted it from barrel. This spectacularly ripe and concentrated wine reveals masses of dark cherries, plums, licorice, smoke, violets, French oak and minerals that coat the palate with extraordinary richness. The wine possesses plenty of structure, but the sheer density of the fruit provides stunning balance. The 2006 Flaccianello is one of the more primary wines of the vintage, and it will require considerable patience. Flaccianello continues to prove that Panzano’s Conca d’Oro is one of the most privileged spots for Sangiovese in Tuscany. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. |

VM 97 (8/2010): I am thrilled with the 2006 Terra di Lavoro, which easily lives up to the praise I bestowed upon it last year. This wasn’t an easy vintage for Galardi. The weather was uneven, and a drastic selection was necessary in the cellar. Overall production was even lower in 2006 than in 2005, but the estate’s commitment to quality paid off in a big way. The 2006 Terra di Lavoro presents an intriguing combination of compelling inner sweetness wrapped around a firm, imposing frame. This is a very Barolo-like Terra di Lavoro that gradually opens up to reveal is pedigree, with endless layers of fruit and an eternal finish. Readers who own the 2006 are fortunate, but significant patience is required. This is a majestic Terra di Lavoro. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036. JS 95 (8/2013): Fresh aromas of herbs and dark fruits such as blackberries and bramble berries. It's minerally too with a volcanic ash undertone. Full and silky with lots of fruit and a long, intense finish. Superb quality. Beautiful now. Made from organically grown grapes: 80 percent Aglianico and 20 percent Piedirosso. |

| VM 97+ (7/2016): The 2006 Barolo is one of my all time favorite Bartolo Mascarello wines. It won’t be ready to drink anytime soon. Beams of tannin give the 2006 its imposing, vertical personality. The 2006 is a Barolo for classically-leaning palates and readers who have the time to be patient. Even so, the 2006 is a utterly majestic tonight. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 96 (12/2010): Mascarello’s 2006 Barolo Monprivato is incredibly primary at this stage. The 2006 is an explosive Monprivato endowed with layers of ripe red fruit backed up by firm, muscular tannins that speak with great eloquence. I expect the 2006 to go through a period of stubbornness - as it often does - but it should begin to show well at around age ten or so. From time to time, the wine shows glimpses of its nobility. The 2006 is shaping up to be a profound Monprivato. The only thing it needs is time. This is a fabulous effort from Mascarello. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2036. VM 93+ (11/2011): Medium palish red; less saturated than the 2007. Less fruity and floral and more earthy/spicy on the nose than the '07; exuded notes of red berry liqueur and underbrush with air. Then tighter and more penetrating in the mouth, conveying more force than the '07 and a much more austere texture. Seems large but at the same time lower in alcohol. This very precise, powerfully structured wine finishes dry, long and youthfully imploded, with subtle spice and floral nuances. More classic than the 2007 but also far less agreeable today: forget this one in the cellar for a decade, at which point it may make my early rating look stingy. |

WA 94 (8/2010): I have always admired the 2006 Montevetrano for its powerful, intense personality. Today the 2006 is austere and unyielding but it seems pretty clear this gorgeous wine simply needs time in bottle, as hints of beautiful inner perfume occasionally make an appearance in the glass. Imparato calls 2006 a very challenging vintage. Still, it would appear this is a magical Montevetrano. All that is required is patience. VM 92 (5/2024): Darkly alluring, the 2006 Montevetrano opens slowly, smoldering up with a blend of mentholated herbs, musky black currants and dusty earth, complicated by a whiff of camphor. It sweeps across the palate, savory in style, with an herbal tinge to its dark red and black fruits. Hints of sour citrus add contrast toward the close. This finishes long and structured, showing a peppery tinge to its grippy tannins as echoes of licorice slowly fade. (Drink between 2024-2030). Eric Guido. |

WA 96 (12/2010): The 2006 Barolo Cannubi/S.Lorenzo-Ravera is surprisingly rich and opulent in this vintage. Sweet red cherries, menthol, spices and flowers emerge with gorgeous inner perfume and great body. This shows incredible power and richness through to the round enveloping finish, where sweet roses and cherries in liqueur linger for an eternity. Readers who are used to squeaky-clean wines might take issue with the volatile acidity here, but with time in the glass all of the elements come together beautifully, suggesting all the wine needs is time. This is one of the most impressive vintages of the Cannubi/San Lorenzo I can remember tasting. I could smell this all day. It is a knockout! Anticipated maturity: 2021-2036. VM 90-92 (12/2009): Reduced nose hints at liqueur-like dark fruits and leather. Then broad, sweet and silky, with a dominant flavor of raspberry liqueur. In a somewhat decadent style, like a wine from Bonneau. Finishes with substantial ripe but slightly dry tannins. |

VM 96 (8/2011): Bright dark red with ruby tones. Black fruits, licorice, incense and minerals on the nose; smells like a head shop. Utterly silky and perfumed on entry, then tightly coiled in the middle, with a deep sweetness leavened by a saline quality. This very young Brunello boasts a terrific tannic structure and saturates the entire palate. But the rising, expanding finish shows zero excess weight. With time in the recorked bottle, this wine showed an increasingly plush, spherical texture and building minerality. WA 95 (5/2011): The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille is a tighter, darker and ulimtately more inward Brunello than the Rennina. Dark wild cherries, plums, tobacco, licorice, spices and menthol are wrapped around a substantial frame of tannic heft. Ideally the wine needs at least another few years in bottle, but it is impossible to miss the wine’s fabulous sense of poise and harmony. As always, Sugarille is a Brunello that speaks with a distinctly Piedmontese accent. It is a beautiful wine by any measure. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. |

WA 95 (2/2010): The 2006 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is a dramatic, sweeping wine that bursts onto the palate in a powerful expression of this Castiglione Falletto vineyard. Dark red fruits, smoke and grilled herbs are just some of the nuances that come to life as this imposing, focused Barolo opens up in the glass. Today, the wine is a touch austere, but in a few years the structure should fill out nicely. It is impossible to ignore the sheer pedigree and class here. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. VM 94 (12/2009): Dark red. Sexy aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, violet, licorice and menthol; lovely modern-style Barolo. Sweet and lush in the mouth, with a firm spine of acidity serving to frame and intensify the sweet, juicy dark fruit flavors. Still a baby but already beautifully detailed. Very long on the aftertaste, with the tannins melting into the fruit. JS 93 (1/2011): I'm loving the layers to this wine. Tons of dried mushrooms, flowers, and berries. Full bodied and chewy. WA 97 (8/2009): The 2006 Sassicaia may very well go down as one of the all-time great recent vintages for this Tuscan thoroughbred. The year started off very warm but by August evening temperatures had moderated, leaving the fruit with a stunning combination of ripeness, perfume, acidity and tannin. The wine is simply glorious, that’s all there is to it. Layers of dark fruit meld into smoke, leather, violets, menthol, earthiness and tar as this profound wine opens up in the glass. The creamy, silky finish lasts an eternity, as waves of fruit caress the tannins with breathtaking elegance. Everything is in the right place in this magical Sassicaia. This is one for the ages. In a word: Awesome. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2031. VM 95 (10/2010): (85% cabernet sauvignon and 15% cabernet franc) Bright red-ruby. Complex nose melds red cherry, blackcurrant, minerals, dried herbs and a delicate oaky vanillin nuance; the fruit aromas show an almost roasted quality without going over the top. Sweet, concentrated and nicely fresh, with an impression of strong extract and a hint of exotic fruits to the flavors of ripe red and dark berries, chocolate, plum and wild herbs. The candied fruit quality carries through on the long, smooth finish, where there's a trace of heat and hints of menthol and minerals. A very successful Sassicaia but, in my notebook, just a little below the lofty heights of the 2001 or 2004. But given the quality of this wine, that's quibbling. Ian d'Agata. JS 95 (4/2012): Sweet tobacco and berry with hints of currants. Full, soft and silky. Lots of fruit and a long finish. It's subtle, dense and sophisticated. Please give this another five years to really show what it has. |

WA 94 (1/2021): A tensile, racy wine—two-thirds from Pernand-Vergelesses, one-third from Aloxe-Corton—the 2018 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of white flowers, orange oil, buttery pastry and nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip. BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
