| WA 91-93 (12/2003): For the second year in a row, Larry Turley has turned the dogs loose for the 2002 Zinfandel Dogtown Vineyard, the finest Zinfandel I have ever tasted from Lodi. This 750-case offering tips the scales at a whopping 16.5% alcohol, all of it well-hidden beneath extravagantly rich fruit. This deep ruby/purple-tinged Zin smells like brandy-macerated jammy black cherries intermixed with dried Provencal herbs, ground pepper, and other exotic spices. An exceptionally powerful, mouthfilling, palate staining effort with enormous richness and purity as well as a blockbuster finish, it is clearly not a Zinfandel for those who enjoy wimpy wines. It should be consumed over the next 4-5 years. |

VM 91 (6/2006): Good full ruby. Aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, espresso and pepper show an almost liqueur-like ripeness. Fat, velvety and broad, with very ripe flavors of roasted fruits and licorice. A saline character contributes to the wine's impression of thickness. Not hugely fruity, but finishes with sweet tannins and excellent length.
WA 89-91 (12/2005): The 2004 Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard is well-made, but not one of the top wines of this portfolio. |

VM 93 (6/2008): Good bright ruby-red. Superripe aromas of berry liqueur, dark chocolate and fruity pepper, with some distinctly exotic high tones. Lush, sweet, seamless and superripe, boasting terrific depth of fruit and bright framing acidity. This is magically light on its feet for a wine with 16.4% alcohol. Finishes very long, with suave tannins. Downright thick but not at all cloying.
WA 91-93 (12/2007): The 2006 Zinfandel Dusi Vineyard, another Paso Robles site, is a whopper at 16.4% alcohol, but has terrific fruit, slightly caramelized Amarone-like licorice, tar, and blackberry fruit, with decent acidity and a full-bodied mouthfeel with high glycerin. Drink it over the next 4-6 years. |

| VM 89 (5/2018): Good medium red. Superripe nose displays good retention of red fruits complicated by chocolate and cocoa powder notes and a hint of smoky bonfire. Quite powerful, opulent and full, even verging on heavy, conveying a slightly roasted, liqueur-like quality to its flavors of red berries, coffee and mocha. Like the '96, this conveys a rather sweet impression, but here the tannins are a bit dustier, suggesting that this wine should be drunk soon. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 90+ (6/2006): Turley has taken over the farming of the vines in his block of this vineyard) Bright ruby. Quite primary on the nose, with a pronounced rocky character to the cool blackberry and mint aromas. Juicy and densely packed, with impressive concentration and breadth. Roasted raspberry and chocolate flavors are still a bit youthfully unevolved, and the wine's substantial building tannins argue for a year or so of patience. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 89-92 (6/2008): Bright medium red. Cherry, pepper and smoke, along with an intriguing flinty quality, on the slightly reduced nose. Moderately sweet and fat, with the smoke and flint nuances carrying through on the palate. Currently a rather atypical Moore, as it doesn't yet show the explosive fruit this bottling often displays. This is 15% alcohol "at the most," notes winemaker Jordan, adding that the fruit was harvested very late.
WA 88-90 (12/2007): One of my favorite Zinfandels is the Zinfandel Moore Earthquake Vineyard, but the 2006 was just not singing. It is an elegant style, with high acidity, and restrained and somewhat understated when comparing it with previous examples from this vineyard. We’ll see how it behaves. |

WA 90-93 (12/2007): Deep berry fruit intermixed with some caramelized herbs, spice box, and earth characterize the dark ruby 2006 Zinfandel Tofanelli Vineyard. The wine exhibits purity, richness, and a heady finish.
VM 90-93 (6/2008): Bright red-ruby. Enticing nose offers raspberry, mocha and Tellicherry pepper. Silky on entry, then creamy and voluminous in the middle, with a strong spice character. Superrich if a bit youthfully aggressive, finishing with big but ripe tannins and lingering spice. Still in tank. |

A bit brutal today, with strong acidity and a peppery character currently dominating the wine's savory fruit. Comes across as tight, even youthfully tough, with no easy sweetness. Not my favorite style of petite sirah.
WA 88-90 (12/2006): Turley produces limited quantities of five impressive Petite Syrahs. The dense purple-hued 2005 Petite Syrah Turley Estate reveals strong tannins along with hints of incense, licorice, and blue as well as black fruits. It is a powerful red, but the tannin seems to be jagged at present. |

VM 92 (6/2008): Good red-ruby. Sappy, resiny aromas of red fruits and illegal herbs. Sweet and pungent in the mouth, with fascinating juicy flavors of red berries, wild anise and fruity pepper. Finishes long and perfumed, with fine-grained tannins and considerable complexity. Very distinctive wine.
WA 91-93 (12/2007): One of the long-standing old-vine Zinfandel vineyards is Turley’s Zinfandel Vineyard 101 from Alexander Valley. Always showing considerable amounts of generous fruit, pepper, herbs, and cherry liqueur, this wine is a bit deeper in 2006 than it was in 2005; it is attractive, supple-textured, and a beauty. |

WA 92 (12/2000): The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard was bottled earlier than usual as this vintage is not as massive or concentrated as its predecessors. To my palate, the 1998 is good, although I am not convinced it will be long lived. There are 2,300 cases of this 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit-Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc blend. It is supple and elegant, with a complex, evolved bouquet of smoke, black currants, spice box, and cedar. In the mouth, the wine is forward with sweet tannin, gorgeously rich, concentrated fruit, and impressively integrated acidity and tannin. Drink this alluring charmer now and over the next 12-15 years.
VM 91 (6/1991): Medium-deep red. Complex, inviting aromas of plum, leather, spice, game and Burgundian earth tones. Lush and sweet in the mouth, with plum, meat and leather flavors. Harmonious acids give shape to the wine without drying it. Finishes with sweet, rich tannins and very good length. This has filled in very nicely since I tasted it from barrel a year ago. A real standout of the vintage. |

| WA 91 (12/2000): A great achievement, the 1998 Insignia (78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot): is a fabulous wine from what was a far more challenging vintage. Approximately 18,000 cases were made, an amazing quantity in a year that produced far less promising raw materials. Evolved, with a saturated ruby/purple color, it possesses a sumptuous bouquet of smoke, cedar, licorice, and cassis. This full-bodied, fat, succulent effort reveals admirable purity and symmetry, and a soft finish with remarkably deep flavors that caress the palate. It can be drunk now as well as over the next 15-16 years. |

A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
