| VM 89+ (3/2001): Bright dark red. Reticent nose opened to show red fruits, scotch, vanilla and rose petal. Fat, silky and lush in the mouth, with burnished oak notes and complex flavors of redcurrant, strawberry and orange peel. Still a bit youthfully disjointed due to the strong oak component but already shows a more sophisticated texture-and more verve-than the '98. Tannins are serious but fine. |

| WA 91 (12/2003): Those lots deemed not quite up to the standards of the Melbury, Vecina, and St. Eden labels are blended together to form Bond’s second wine, The Matriarch. This is a second wine in name only. The complex 1999 The Matriarch displays a deep plum/purple color along with sweet, succulent aromas of smoky oak, lead pencil shavings, and a sexy concoction of chocolate, black currants, and licorice. Drink this rich, medium to full-bodied beauty over the next 10-12 years. |

VM 90-92 (6/2001): Deep, saturated ruby. Precise, high-pitched aromas of black fruits, licorice and violet. Dense and deep but bright and lively, with floral and minty nuances contributing to the impression of verve. Seems destined to be the purest wine yet from this estate. Finishes with big, chewy, toothfurring tannins and juicy, palate-cleansing acidity.
WA 87 (12/2003): The 1999 possesses a dark garnet/plum/purple color as well as a sweet nose of loamy soil, dried Provencal herbs, red currants, cherries, and spice. Medium-bodied with an austere, tough finish, I doubt aging will be beneficial, although the wine will survive for 10-15 years. Although not as bad as some of its peers, this is a poster child for over-priced Cabernet Sauvignon. This winery tends to turn out hard, tannic Cabernets that are largely deficient in fruit and texture, but are very complex aromatically. |

| VM 90 (12/2002): Bright ruby-red. Wild aromas of blackberry, black cherry, espresso, leather, raw meat, tobacco and mint. Juicy, sweet and plump, with intense but rather rustic flavors. Finishes with lingering sweet fruit and surprisingly ripe tannins. Not squeaky-clean but long on personality. |

| VM 88+ (10/2002): Saturated medium ruby. Intriguingly floral aromas of black raspberry, cherry cola, mocha, violet and sweet oak. Dense and rich but youthfully backward; in a distinctly muscular style and slightly warm with alcohol. A chunky wine that could use more fruit and verve. Quite tannic and a tad dry on the end. |

WA 95 (8/2002): The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (an 8,600-case cuvee made from yields of 1.98 tons of fruit per acre) is considered by Bo Barrett to be a "great" year. The wine boasts a saturated inky/purple color as well as extraordinary density of fruit and cassis, and huge tannin, body, and extract. It is a substantial, palate-staining, long, muscular Cabernet that should only be purchased by connoisseurs with cold cellars as well as patience. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2030.
VM 92-95 (6/2001): Bright ruby-red. Very pure, perfumed aromas of cassis, redcurrant, black cherry, bitter chocolate, minerals and tobacco; shows none of the herbal, minty quality of the '98. Powerfully structured, primary and fresh, with firm acidity; real essence of Napa Valley cabernet. Very long, palate-staining finish features firm but perfectly buffered tannins. This will develop slowly and be long-lived. A potentially great vintage for this wine. |

Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's chiseled and saline, with impressive cut and grip.
BH 91-93 (6/2020): (the proportions have changed again and in 2018 are in a 35/65% proportion from Les Languettes in Aloxe and En Charlemagne in Pernand.) A restrained, ultra-fresh and distinctly floral nose reflects notes of various white orchard fruit aromas, lemon zest and discreet wood toast. There is outstanding volume to the rich and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess focused power on the beautifully long and sappy mineral-infused finish that is shaped by citrus-tinged acidity. This isn't quite as structured as the Chevalier, but it too is promising. Drink 2028+. |
