Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir ex-Domaine |
$69.95 |
29 |
|
| |
WA 93 (9/2023): Wafting from the glass with aromas of honeycomb, vine blossom, orange zest and nutmeg, the 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is medium to full-bodied, satiny and suave, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and a saline, spice-inflected finish. This, too, is a fine success. BH 91 (10/2024): A restrained nose flashes only a touch of exotic character on the spicy aromas of mostly yellow orchard fruit, apple, iodine and a floral top note. The generous but appealingly punchy middle weight flavors exude evident minerality on the saliva-inducing, balanced and lingering finale. A few years of keeping should help add complexity. |

Bourgogne Cuvee des Forgets ex-Domaine |
$39.99 |
60 |
|
| |
BH 87 (6/2024): Bright aromas of just sliced citrus, white peach and pretty floral nuances are complemented by delicious middleweight flavors that are supported by lemon-tinged acidity on the vibrant, lingering and refreshing finale. Moreover, this is not your usual 'pop and pour' Bourgogne as it has the legs to repay 4 to 7 years of keeping. Worth checking out. Drink 2027+. Outstanding Top Value! JM 87-89 (10/2023): A similar colour, pale primrose perhaps. A little bit crisper and more classic in bouquet. Delicious white fruit, very balanced, feel the limestone, enough flesh yet with precision as well. A longer and more mineral finish than Forgets. |

Dupratt Vyd. Chardonnay |
$39 |

|
| |
| VM 92 (4/2018): The 2015 Chardonnay DuPratt Vineyard is quite powerful and dense, but still very much within the understated style that is such a Copain signature. Pear, smoke, slate and flinty notes all flesh out in this textured, nuanced Chardonnay from Copain. The DuPratt is one of the more generous, creamy wines in the range. There is plenty of energy, but the DuPratt also has an extra kick of textural depth to balance things out. Antonio Galloni. |

Laureles Grade Chardonnay |
$38.50 |

|
| |
| VM 90 (5/2014): Light, bright yellow. Vibrant pear and Meyer lemon aromas are complicated by anise, ginger and smoky minerals. Dry, nervy and precise, offering intense orchard and pit fruit flavors and a touch of bitter herbs. A chalky mineral quality adds bite to the finish, which shows excellent clarity and floral persistence. I was reminded of serious Macon and Chablis wines while I tasted this stony, bracing chardonnay. Stephen Tanzer. |

Sonoma Coast Chardonnay |

|
| |
JD 93 (8/2021): The lightly hued 2019 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast offers lots of minerality as well as terrific citrus, mint, and sappy green herb-like aromatics. These all carry over to the palate, where the wine is medium-bodied, has bright acidity, and a salty, marine-like hint on the finish. It's beautifully done and well worth seeking out. It should have 7-8 years or more of longevity, probably longer. VM 93 (1/2022): The 2019 Chardonnay is bright and sculpted in feel. Lemon peel, sage, white, flowers, mint and crushed rocks abound. This is an especially savory expression of Chardonnay. The 2019 spent 10-11 months in oak, about 20% new. Antonio Galloni. |

2012 |
River Block Vyd. Chardonnay |
$59 |
1 |
|
| |
WA 93 (12/2013): The 2012 Chardonnay River Block is made from the Old Wente clone as well as Dijon clone 95. It offers up notes of buttered tangerine oil, lemon grass, white peach, an underlying stony character, and a fresh, full-bodied, rich mouthfeel displaying terrific texture and length. This superb Chardonnay should drink well for 6-8 years. VM 92 (5/2014): Pale yellow-gold. Mineral-laced citrus and orchard fruit aromas are complicated by a sexy floral nuance. Tightly wound orange and pear skin flavors deliver impressive depth and power, with no excess weight. The mineral quality dominates the finish, which features a subtle iodine flourish. Stephen Tanzer. |

2012 |
South River Vyd. Chardonnay |
$59 |
1 |
|
| |
WA 94 (12/2013): The 2012 Chardonnay South River reveals a terrific perfume of subtle smoke, buttered tropical fruits and a Chassagne-Montrachet-like nuttiness. Full-bodied and rich, this dazzling effort should drink well for 5-6 years. VM 91 (2/2014): Rochioli's 2012 Chardonnay South River presents a beautiful array of tangerine, mint, white flowers and slate, all of which seem to lift out of the glass effortlessly. This pretty, feminine Chardonnay should drink well upon release and also mature a bit faster than some of the other wines given its mid-weight structure. Antonio Galloni. |

Stone Flat Vyd. Sonoma Coast Chardonnay |
$139 |
1 |
|
| |
JD 96 (6/2024): The 2022 Chardonnay Stone Flat Vineyard boasts a more floral bouquet of white flowers. It is more vertical on the palate, with a more persistent core of fresh acidity, a focused feel, and a note of delicate, toasty incense on the finish. It takes on a good deal of energy and is going to be an age-worthy wine. Very compelling, it's going to show its best over the next 10 years. (Drink between 2024-2034). Audrey Frick. VM 96 (1/2024): The 2022 Chardonnay Stone Flat Vineyard is bright and nicely lifted. Airy and medium in body, the Stone Flat is a Chardonnay of sublime refinement and class. Citrus peel, white flowers, mint and crushed rocks are beautifully delineated. Pretty earthy undertones linger on the close. This is so elegant. (Drink between 2024-2032). Antonio Galloni. WA 94 (7/2024): The 2022 Chardonnay Stone Flat Vineyard has pure, layered scents of peach, elderflower, panna cotta, matchstick and toast. The medium-bodied palate balances creamy fruit and a satiny texture with a taut spine of acidity, and it has a long, understated finish. |

| JD 94 (1/2019): There are two Chardonnays. The 2017 Chardonnay Sonoma County is a beauty and has a big perfume of caramelized pineapple, tangerine, and toasted oak. It’s rich, medium-bodied, and beautifully textured, with plenty of length. It’s seriously good Chardonnay that has richness and freshness. |

2011 |
Marcassin Vyd. Chardonnay Signs of Old Seepage; Bin-Soiled Label |
$495 |
1 |
|
| |
| WA 97 (8/2015): The 2011 is a great Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard from a much-maligned and sometimes excessively criticized vintage. 2011 has its low points, but there are many producers who got it right, and survived the challenging growing and harvest conditions. This wine has phenomenal intensity, with plenty of crushed rock, pineapple, honeysuckle, orange and tangerine blossom in an elegant, medium to full-bodied style, with terrific intensity, good acidity and freshness. This is more evolved than either the 2009 or 2010, and probably will be a candidate for 7-8 years of aging, rather than 10 or more. |

Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Chardonnay Ex-Domaine |
$95 |
39 |
|
| |
JD 97 (3/2025): Brought up all in new barrels, the 2022 Chardonnay Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Vineyard is stunning stuff offering a kaleidoscope-like bouquet of honeyed lemon, caramelized orange, flower oil, citrus, and hints blanched almonds. It's full-bodied, has a deep, beautifully layered mouthfeel, and a serious finish. Drink bottles through 2032. WA 93 (10/2024): Composed of Clone 96 planted in 1995 and barrel fermented in 100% new French oak, half of the 2022 Chardonnay Beckstoffer Carneros Lake Vineyard underwent malolactic fermentation. It boasts a subtle honeyed element, plus ripe melon and pear notes. Full-bodied, plump and generous, with a long, richly textural finish, it's a beauty to enjoy over the next several years. |

2009 |
Ode to Sunshine Chardonnay |
$44 |
1 |
|
| |
WA 92 (8/2011): The 2009 Chardonnay Ode to Sunshine, from the Bien Nacido Vineyard, wraps around the palate with layers of tropical fruit. Despite its textural richness and volume, the wine shows plenty of acidity and fabulous overall balance. This racy, sleek wine from Sanguis is best enjoyed while the fruit is vibrant. Ode to Sunshine spent 22 months in French oak barrels, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. VM 91 (10/2011): (100% chardonnay from the Bien Nacido vineyard): Hazy gold. Wild, complex bouquet evokes pear skin, nectarine, macadamia nut and marzipan, with an oak spice note that gains strength with air. Ripe and broad but lively, with deep orchard and pit fruit flavors showing very good clarity and spiciness. Finishes long and sappy, with very good cut. |
|

2011 |
Helfer Vyd. Chardonnay |
$50 |
10 |
|
| |
| VM 91 (5/2014): Light yellow. Complex, perfumed scents of poached pear, nectarine and honey, with smoky oak and iodine accents. Deeply pitched pit and orchard fruit flavors show very good vivacity, with dusty minerality adding back-end lift. The smoky note carries through the long, penetrating finish, with the pear note echoing. |
|
|

Helfer Vyd. Chardonnay |
$59 |
9 |
|
| |
| VM 91 (8/2017): Smoke, pastry, baked apple and pear run through the 2014 Chardonnay Helfer Vineyard. There is good immediacy to the fruit, yet the 2014 remains medium in body and nicely lifted, with good Russian River intensity and silkiness to match its gracious personality. Another 6-12 months in bottle will help the oak integrate more fully. Antonio Galloni |
|
|
2013 |
Scherrer Vyd. Chardonnay |
$55 |
1 |
|
| |
| VM 90 (2/2016): The 2013 Chardonnay Scherrer Vineyard is pretty, soft and nuanced throughout. Yellow orchard fruit, spice, pear and vanilla are laced together in a creamy yet understated wine endowed with grace and lovely overall balance. |
|
|
2019 |
Scherrer Vyd. Chardonnay |
$43.99 |
14 |
|
| |
| VM 94 (1/2022): The 2019 Chardonnay Scherrer Vineyard is a powerful, wild wine. Soaring aromatics and a deep structure give this Alexander Valley Chardonnay tons of character. Orchard fruit, mint, tangerine oil and dried flowers all open in the glass. There's something exotic about the 2019 that is undeniably appealing. The creamy, substantial finish is a thing of beauty. Antonio Galloni. |
