This is fantastically spicy yet pure and is bigger and more powerful than the Romanee St. Vivant and for young Richebourg is really quite refined. This so fine that the volume of wine behind the flavors almost goes unnoticed. An extremely impressive effort for the vintage. Don't miss! Drink 2007-15.

	VM 96+ (3/2013): (13.8% alcohol "with a bit of chaptalization," according to winemaker Charles Van Canneyt): Deep, full red. Very recent but pure nose eventually reveals scents of musky wild red fruits and smoky, stony minerality; a real essence of Burgundy. Deep and thick on the palate; dense with extract and utterly smooth too but with explosive energy suggesting that this wine will repay long aging. Finishes with Outstanding rising smoky persistence and powerful stony minerality. These 2010s, bottled in February of 2012, display extraordinary digestibility. Stephen Tanzer.   BH 95 (1/2013): (from vines that abut those of the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti in Richebourg proper.) Here the reduction is present also but at least there is some spiciness in evidence. There is excellent richness and muscle to the big-bodied and impressively vibrant medium weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a palate staining and magnificently long finish. There is power here but overall this is more a Riche of elegance than brawn. I very much like the potential but caution compels me to point out that the reduction is a concern though again with this wine it seems less like a permanent problem. Drink 2025+.

	BH 91-94 (4/2012): (the Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could keep the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15, 25 and 70 years of age). An exuberantly spicy, fresh and ripe nose speaks of red berry fruit liqueur, plum, anise and clove plus discreet mineral nuances. The powerful and sleekly muscular flavors are quite firm yet there is a certain generosity present that finesses any sense of toughness. Indeed this is relatively forward for a young Richebourg. While there is fine depth and length present, this strikes me as more of a very good rather than genuinely Outstanding vintage for this wine. Drink 2025+.

	WA 93-95 (12/2013): The 2012 Richebourg Grand Cru comes from the family’s 0.60-hectare parcel whose oldest vines are approaching retirement. It has a very refined, elegant bouquet that is actually more like a Romanee-Saint-Vivant at the moment. There are lovely scents of orange-blossom and quince emerging with time. The palate is well-balanced with a rounded, harmonious entry. It is silky smooth at the moment with a fine thread of acidity. It remains sedate, distant even but very sophisticated and the oak is very well assimilated towards the finish. Excellent.   BH 91-94 (4/2014): (The Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could keep the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age.) In much the same fashion as the Pezerolles this is presently very toasty and it's enough where the wood pushes the spicy black pinot fruit to the background if not completely hides it. The supple and very round large-scaled flavors possess excellent concentration and an intense minerality on the powerful and moderately austere finish. My predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt in this case because the wood does not alter the texture or sweeten the finish and thus there is a good chance that this will ultimately harmonize. Drink 2024+.

The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age.) Prominent, but not dominant, oak and menthol characters are present on the ultra-spicy nose of attractively fresh red and dark cherry aromas that are trimmed in tea, sandalwood and hoisin nuances. The bigger, richer and more mineral-driven flavors also coat the palate with sappy dry extract on the overtly powerful and driving finish that goes on and on. This is not a huge version of the appellation but the focus and sense of harmony are certainly admirable. Patience required. Drink 2030+.

	BH 91-94 (4/2021): This is quite firmly reduced and completely unreadable in its current condition. There is much to like however on the palate of the sleek, well-detailed and beautifully textured larger-scaled flavors that also flash ample minerality and serious power on the slightly woody finish. This is somewhat awkward today though all of the components appear to be present for this to harmonize, especially since the very firm and robust supporting tannins make clear that this is going to require extended cellaring to arrive at its apogee. As such my projected range offers the benefit of the doubt that this will progressively harmonize after a few years of bottle age. (Drink starting 2034).

	BH 94 (1/2012): ( from a .7 ha parcel that was partially replanted in 1985 and the remainder in 1989.) A restrained but elegant and very floral nose also speaks of red currant, plum, blue berry and hoisin is trimmed in a relatively curtailed application of oak. The equally reserved but powerful and big-bodied flavors brim with dry extract that renders the dense tannins less obvious than they would otherwise be on the firm and hugely long finish. This is a big but classy effort that should require around 15 years to arrive at its full majority. Drink 2024+.

	VM 95+ (4/2016): Bright dark red. Precise, high-pitched aromas of red cherry, raspberry, licorice and mint. Utterly spherical, fine-grained wine with outstanding intensity; conveys a powerful impression of force but without any hardness or brutality. The pungent red berry flavors are complicated by suggestions of leather and game and given further punch by strong underlying minerality. Finishes with big, broad, building tannins that will require patience. Boasts outstanding inner-mouth tension and energy, but the sensuality of Vosne-Romanée is also on display here. A great showing. Stephen Tanzer.   BH 95 (1/2016): This undoubtedly possesses the most floral nose of these 2013 grands crus with its notes of lilac, violet and rose petal along with a broad range of spice elements adding nuance to the dark berry fruit liqueur aromas. There is superb volume and intensity to the pungent mineral-driven and imposingly-scaled flavors that exude focused power on the extract-rich, explosively long and beautifully well-detailed finale. As good as the Echézeaux is, and it is indeed superb, the Riche is flat out great. As I have consistently underscored with the Grivot '13s though do not buy this wine in the hopes of instant, or even early, gratification as the Riche is going to require a very long snooze in a cool cellar.

	BH 93-96 (1/2017): (from Richebourg proper.) This too is sufficiently reduced as to render it difficult to assess. By contrast, the big-bodied, powerful and incredibly rich flavors are tighter and less forthcoming with strikingly good underlying material while displaying stunningly fine depth on the mineral-inflected and wonderfully persistent finish. This too is blessed with seemingly unending reserves of dry extract that do an excellent job of buffering the very firm tannic spine. Patience, and lots of it, is absolutely essential here. 	BH 93-96 (1/2010): (from a .37 ha parcel in Les Veroilles of 40+ year old vines save for a very tiny parcel in Richebourg proper.) A very fresh, expressive, pure and stunningly spicy nose of notably ripe black and purple pinot fruit and a host of subtle Asian spice nuances, including star anise, hoisin and soy that are in keeping with the deep, serious, tautly muscled and mineral-suffused broad shouldered flavors brimming with dry extract that really coats the palate on the vibrant, precise, mineral-driven and hugely long finish that is linear but less austere than usual. An excellent '08 with terrific development potential. Drink 2023+.   VM 93-96 (4/2010): Good full red. Wonderfully sappy aromas of raspberry, orange peel, rose petal and flinty, smoky minerality. Compellingly sweet but utterly primary, with terrific energy and definition to the flavors of red fruits and pungent minerals. Perfectly balanced wine; less creamy today than the Brulees but even more sharply delineated. Perhaps most impressive on the explosive rising finish, which shows more fruits and minerals than tannins.   WA 92-93 (6/2010): Meo-Camuzet’s 2008 Richebourg strikes me as their most obviously tannic wine of the vintage, despite the confitured intensity and plush richness of its black fruits. The effect of wood - whether or not this includes amplification of tannin - comes out here in a flattering way via a maple syrup-like amalgam of resin and caramel. Sweet, decadent floral perfume; brown spices; and crushed stone add palate interest, though the staining concentration of this wine’s finish is at least as yet somewhat undifferentiated and accompanied by gum-numbing intensity of tannin. When racked, this was “explosive" reports Meo, and the metaphor of a bomb sunk into the earth and topped with sandbags does strike me as potentially useful for a Pinot grand cru I would not want to touch for 5-7 years and which seems built to last for more than twice that long.

	BH 91-94 (1/2011): (from vines adjacent to those of Domaine de la Romanee Conti in Richebourg proper totaling .31 ha; 80% whole cluster vinification). A notably floral, spicy and very cool nose is trimmed in noticeable but reasonable wood and leads to very rich, round and velvety big-bodied and powerful flavors that culminate in a moderately oaked but strikingly long finish. Again, the oak is not subtle on the palate but there appears to be more than enough concentration to handle it. Drink 2024+.
