| WA 92 (8/2017): The 2013 Barolo Bussia shows tight delineation with crisp fruity aromas that are characteristic of this slightly cooler and longer growing season. Sour cherry, dried raspberry and spice lead to a fresh finale with integrated tannins and acidity. JD 93 (5/2021): The 2017 Barolo Cannubi, aged for 30 months in 20- to 25-hectoliter Slavonian oak, is from a small, 0.5-hectare parcel of Cannubi. It reveals perfumed notes of pure cherry, anise, violets, and leather. The palate is tightly wound and resinous with pine, bitter herbs, and orange pith, with angular structure. | VM 92 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo wraps around the palate with plums, mocha, smoke, menthol, spices and new leather. This is an unusually dark, muscular style for a straight Barolo. The shoulders are broad, but at the same time, there is more than enough richness to balance the tannins. The 2010 should drink well pretty much upon release, as it is packed with fruit, supple in personality and full of near-term appeal. WA 96+ (6/2014): The 2010 Barolo Arborina shows a strong fruit profile with cherry and cassis that sets it apart from the 2009 vintage that is extremely generous in floral tones of crushed flower and rose. This expression shows great power and substance with 20 to 30% new oak. This is a precise and sharp wine with a heightened sense of focus and definition that is backed by pretty mineral shadings. Hold this wine ten years or more. Drink: 2017-2035.
VM 95 (1/2014): Altare's 2010 Barolo Arborina bristles on the palate with striking energy and finesse. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet spices, licorice and rose petals all meld together in a layered, impeccable Barolo loaded with class. The flavors are bright, chiseled and beautifully nuanced. VM 98 (12/2013): In this context, it is obvious why the 2010 is the greatest Solaia ever made. The 2010 has it all; expressive aromatics, wonderfully nuanced fruit and tons of supporting structure. The 2010 has been magnificent since I started tasting the component wines in 2011. Not that it is in bottle, it is every bit as stunning as I had hoped. Readers will not want to miss this towering masterpiece from the Antinori family. Ideally, the 2010 should be cellared until at least age ten. This mesmerizing, wonderfully complete Solaia represents the height of finesse Antinori started to achieve with the 2004. In time, the 2010 will be recognized as one of the all-time legendary Solaias. Actually, it already is. I can't think of a better wine with which to wrap up this monumental, truly once-in-a-lifetime tasting.
JS 98 (11/2013): A triumph for Solaia: it suggests the greatness of the legendary 1997. This is a wine with very subtle, complex aromas and flavours of currants, licorice and raspberries. Wonderful nose. Full body with ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. It lasts for minutes on the palate. The precision of the cabrenet sauvignon comes through here. Better in 2016.
WA 97 (8/2013): The 2010 Solaia puts on an incredible show that hits all the senses and keeps your unyielding attention for as long as there is wine in the bottle. There are various ways to describe the bouquet. First, is the wine’s sweet side, as this beautiful 75-20-5 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc delivers ripe cherry, black currant, baking spice and dark chocolate. After that, the wine becomes redolent of tobacco, balsam, bay leaf, rum cake and dark licorice. The bouquet is all encompassing and complete. A firmly structured backbone is padded generously by the fleshy richness of its consistency. This is a gorgeous wine that will age for decades. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2040.
VM 93+ (9/2014): (75% cabernet sauvignon, 20% sangiovese and 5% cabernet franc): Good dark ruby. Black cherry, blackcurrant, chocolate, fresh herbs and smoky oak on the nose and palate. Highly concentrated, silky and sweet, but also quite taut and energetic in the mouth, displaying perfectly integrated acidity and polished tannins. The subtle, slowly expanding finish features captivating lingering sweetness. Still very youthful: I'd forget about this wine in the cellar for another eight to ten years. |

| VM 96 (8/2013): Antinori's 2010 Tignanello is stunning, as it has been since I started tasting the component wines in 2011. Firm yet sweet, silky tannins form the backbone for this gorgeous, vivid wine. Dark red cherries, plums, cloves, mint and sage inform a Tignanello that impresses for its delineation, nuance and power. Clean, saline notes support the mineral-drenched finish. The 2010 isn't huge, but rather is a vertical wine endowed with tremendous energy and vibrancy. I can't remember a Tignanello with this much crystalline tension and pure energy. VM 96 (1/2014): Dark cherry, plum, smoke, menthol, melted road tar and graphite meld together in the 2010 Barolo San Rocco. A big, explosive wine, the 2010 blossoms in the glass with layers of deep, expressive fruit. The San Rocco is usually a wine of volume and breadth, at it is again in 2010. The 2010 Barolo San Rocco is a wine of immense power and structure. It also shows impressive elegance and finesse, so you really get the best that Nebbiolo can offer. The bouquet opens to dark fruit, with anise seed, licorice, toasted almond and blue flower in supporting roles. |

WA 96 (3/2016): I'm confident this is the best wine (as a new release) I have tasted from Castello Banfi. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio Alle Mura offers rich intensity with seamless integration between its primary fruit aromas and background oak shadings. It is distinguished by elegant tones of licorice, dark mineral and cola that are associated with the six-year aging process required of Brunello Riserva. The bouquet shows enormous depth and fluid nuances of spice and chocolate that add plumpness, opulence and softness. The wine shows a rich and well extracted mouthfeel that is impressive both in terms of consistency and persistence. A bright flash of acidity bodes well for this wine's future cellar evolution. |

WA 93+ (6/2015): The 2010 Barabresco opens to beautiful aromas of forest floor, white truffle and cola. All the fruit from Produttori del Barbaresco's single-vineyard wines are packed into this one base Barbaresco. The wine is sharp and focused and, although it does not have the soft generosity of 2009 or 2011, this is a wine of enormous elegance. I did not find the mouthfeel to be exceedingly thin. In fact, I noted the persistence, freshness and liveliness of the finish.
JS 92 (1/2015): Aromas of dried berry, lemon peel and plum follow through to a medium to full body, fine tannins and a bright finish. Bright and delicious. I like both the 2010 and 2011 at the same level but for different reasons. Better in 2015.
VM 91 (11/2013): (as the Produttori has declassified its crus in 2010, there will be 28,000 cases of this blend): Tangy cherry and raspberry aromas are lifted by flowers and mint on the cool, inviting nose. Silky-sweet and floral, with lovely inner-mouth juiciness to its red berry flavors. Owing to the wine's moderate body and flesh, the tannins show a slightly dryness but the long, juicy finish offers enticing floral perfume. Almost indescribably beautiful, the 2010 is a classic, austere Biondi Santi Brunello built to age. Although the 2010 is going to require considerable patience, its pedigree is quite apparent today. The 2010 constantly changes in the glass, revealing different shades of its multi-faceted personality, while the long, saline-infused finish is a thing of real beauty. |

VM 91 (8/2013): It is fascinating to taste the 2010 Ilatraia next to the 2011. Here, the cooler growing season gives this Cabernet Sauvignon/Petit Verdot/Cabernet Franc an element of freshness and vibrancy that is quite appealing. Sweet floral and spice notes add an element of freshness that adds lift to layers of finely woven dark red fruit. VM 96+ (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Prapò is one of the most beautiful young Barolos I have tasted from Ceretto in a long time. Deep, layered and beautifully expressive, yet also mysterious, the 2010 exudes class and that warm, Serralunga resonance that is unique to the Barolos of the village. Sage, roasted coffee beans, licorice and new leather are some of the notes that emerge over time, all framed by firm, muscular tannins that suggest a long life lies ahead. Today, the 2010 Prapò is majestic. It also has plenty of room to grow from here.
VM 91+ (12/2013): (this is Ceretto's highest Barolo vineyard, at 310 meters): Good medium red. Strawberry, mocha and truffley underbrush on the nose, complicated by flinty minerality. VM 96 (3/2016): The 2010 Barolo Riserva Vigna Elena emerges from a parcel in Ravera planted with the Rose clone, which yields a distinctly fragrant Barolo that emphasizes aromatic lift and precision. Crushed flowers, mint and sweet red cherries all lift from the glass. Silky and nuanced, the 2010 offers lovely balance in an understated style. Today, the 2010 is quite closed and probably in need of further time in bottle. Rose petal, mint, crushed flowers, hard candy and sweet red berries reappear on the finish, adding further shades of nuance. The 2010 is constantly changing in the glass, but it has begun to shut down in bottle, something that bodes well for the future. WA 95 (6/2016): Only made in the best vintages, the 2010 Barolo Riserva Vigna Elena is a stunning and magnificent achievement. This is a complete wine that reaches to the far sides of the aromatic spectrum. The bouquet offers crushed mineral, black fruit, balsam herb, cherry cola, anise and a seductive dose of earthy black truffle. It has it all. The mouthfeel is rich and determined, but there is a point of tightness within the tannic structure that will require more years of bottle aging. |

WA 100 (6/2017): The 2010 Barolo Riserva Monfortino is a perfect wine and there are few things I am more sure of in this life. This is an extraordinary creation that bursts from the glass with a level of distinct intensity and elegance that is nothing short of breathtaking. The wine literally evokes an emotional and deeply visceral reaction thanks to the lasting impression it makes on your heart, mind and gut. This Barolo opens to a delicate garnet color that is brightened with crystalline luminosity. The bouquet offers an immediate curtain-raiser with chiseled aromas of wild berry, licorice, white truffle and tar. That explosive start is followed by a mounting crescendo of complexity and nuance. The wine is extremely silky and polished in terms of mouthfeel and this helps to underline its impressive persistence. Bravo!
JS 99 (10/2016): This is one of the most balanced, harmonious Monfortinos I’ve ever tasted. Aromas of dried rose petals and oranges. It’s full-bodied yet compacted and tight. Tannins are perfectly managed. All in harmony. This is from one of the latest harvests ever; it started October 29. So fabulous and so perfect now, why wait? But will age for decades.
VM 98-100 (3/2015): It's always great to get a glimpse of Monfortino as it ages in barrel. The 2010 is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Sweet red cherries, rose petals, smoke, licorice and savory herbs open up in the glass, but it is the wine's statuesque, towering personality that stands out most. Layers of nuance continue to build in a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures that dazzles. Firm, chalky tannins support the huge finish. Conterno told me the 2010 might get an extra year in barrel to tame the the tannins, so it may be a while before the 2010 sees the light of day. VM 96+ (8/2013): Dark, rich and powerful, the 2010 Flaccianello wraps around the palate with serious depth and density. The aromas and flavors are totally alive in the glass. Smoke, tobacco and savory herb notes add complexity over time. Initially quite muscular, the 2010 finds quite a bit of finesse with time in the glass. The 2010 Flaccianello is exceptional, but the competition is tough this year at Fontodi! WA 96 (7/2019): From an iconic vintage that gave generously to all grape varieties across almost all of Tuscany, this wine ranks high on the Fontodi billboard of greatest hits. The 2010 Flaccianello della Pieve is a rock solid wine that sits firm and begins to peel slowly, each delicate layer at a time. It puts on quite a show with a solid core of dark fruit followed by smoke, spice, tar, licorice and delicate blue flower. On previous tastings of this vintage, I had scored it 97 and 97+ points, respectively. I'm going down one point at this sitting because the wine's fiber has unraveled, ever so slightly, at the edges. It still maintains that solid core, but the wine has taken an important jump forward in its evolution these past three years. Evidently, it is currently in a phase of relaxation and unwinding. Beautifully polished notes of Mediterranean herb and dried mint appear on the long, glossy finish. Giovanni Manetti compares the 2010 vintage to 2006 but considers this vintage slightly more approachable overall. |

| WA 97+ (2/2013): I hope one day to have another chance to taste a vertical of Roccamonfina Terra di Lavoro because I have a strong feeling the 2010 will occupy a place among the very finest vintages produced on this tiny vineyard on the slopes of the Roccamonfina volcano. An exotic melange of tar, smoke, graphite, blackberry jam and savory herbs explode from the glass. The 2010 is intense and full-bodied, yet also incredibly elegant. A big, breathtaking wine, the 2010 continues to build all the way through to a deeply resonant, expressive finish. I would choose to leave this uttterly beguiling Campanian red alone for the better part of a decade, but readers are going to have a very hard time excercising that patience. VM 96 (8/2013): The 2010 Messorio boasts stunning depth and richness. Over the last few months, the 2010 has found a new level of finesse that wasn't apparent earlier this year. Hints of dark cherry, plum, cloves and tar flesh out on the huge, powerful finish. Although the 2010 is years away from offering its finest drinking, its class and personality are impossible to miss. Patience will be a virtue.
JS 96 (11/2013): A wine with great structure and muscular tone. It is full-bodied with chewy tannins that remain polished and very pretty. The length and fruit are fantastic; it goes on for minutes. Pure merlot. Better in 2016.
WA 95 (8/2013): The 2010 Messorio will shed its baby fat and some of those pronounced oak tones as it unwinds in the cellar. This is an expertly crafted Merlot that offers so much in terms of charm, intensity and finesse. The opulence of its dark fruit and black cherry is offset against lingering tones of spice and leather. You'll need to wait a bit. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. |

VM 97 (8/2013): The 2010 Paleo Rosso (Cabernet Franc) marks a return to a much more varietally expressive style after the 2009. Dried herbs, mocha, wild flowers, plums and black cherries come together in an impeccable wine endowed with tremendous finesse. Clean veins of minerality give the wine much of its freshness and verve. The 2010 is one of the very finest Paleo Rossos I can remember tasting. It also seems pretty obvious Paleo is the most dramatically improved wine in Le Macchiole's range. The 2010 is delicious today, but it will be even better in a few years. (Drink between 2016-2030). WA 91 (6/2014): The 2010 Barolo Brunate starts off with savory notes of cured meat and smoked bacon that unfold to reveal dark fruit and bitter chocolate as the wine evolves. Wines from the Brunate cru always deliver an extra sense of boldness and ripeness and Marcarini’s expression is no exception. Chopped mint, cinnamon and black olive appear at different stages of the experience. The tannins show some astringency so give this wine an extra year or two of cellar aging. Drink: 2017-2027.
VM 93 (9/2014): Deep and beguiling in the glass, the 2010 Barolo Brunate shows the intrigue that is such a central theme in wines from this great site. Rose petal, violet and lavender notes open up in the glass, followed by dark red stone fruits, spices, menthol and tobacco. Broad, firm tannins provide the framework, but this is an unusually polished, young Brunate that is quite impressive, even at this early stage. The texture, breath and layered finish is pure Brunate. WA 97 (6/2015): Mauro Mascarello does not disappoint with his stunning 2010 Barolo Monprivato. This is an impeccable expression from Castiglione Falletto that imparts an immense sense of purity and elegance. The bouquet opens slowly to reveal pressed flower, cola, dried ginger, forest fruit and balsam herb. This is a magnificent expression of Nebbiolo that changes and shifts each time you come back to contemplate its aromas. That magical fluidity is also present in the mouth. The wine presents silky tannins and crisp fruit flavors. Given the sheer quality on display now, you can count on Barolo Monprivato to continue a slow and successful evolution in your cellar. This is a true beauty.
VM 93-96 (11/2013): (this was a treat Mascarello pulled from cask at the end of my tasting): Medium red. Knockout nose showcases tangy red fruits, minerals and porcini. Conveys an impression of superb concentration and dusty extract, with the tactile solidity of the best young 2010s already coming through in spades. A wine of great length and potential. I'll play the interventionist wine writer and wonder out loud why this won't be bottled for another year. But as devil's advocate to my devil's advocate, 2010 is one vintage that generally has the extract and energy to benefit from an extended elevage.
VM 89 (3/2015): Mascarello's 2010 Barolo Monprivato shows good depth and volume in the glass, but the flavors are also a touch forward, which is a bit unusual for the year. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, mint, white pepper and orange peel linger on the delicate finish, all supported by silky, polished tannins. The 2010 is a bit more fully formed than it was a few months ago, but I don't find the pedigree of the best years, and I say that after having had the 1989, 2004 and 2008 in the days leading up to this visit. |

| WA 98 (6/2018): The 2010 Barolo Riserva Monprivato Cà d'Morissio is one of the defining wines of this iconic vintage. This important wine was not made in 2009 or 2011. There will be releases in 2012 and 2013. However, the Mascarello family is not yet sure about 2014. If they do release the wine in that vintage, bottle production will be very small. Generally speaking, 4,000 bottles is the normal production target. This wine should be released more or less as this report is published in late spring 2018. There is a lot to say here, starting with the bouquet that is precisely defined and layered. You get tones of forest fruit, crushed mineral, wild sage and balsam herb. There are renderings of iodine, anise seed and licorice as well. What stands out most is the wine's seamless integration. The tannins are firm and dry, with just enough latitude to offer future development. This wine ages in bottle for two and a half years before its commercial release. It should not be touched for at least 5 more years, or preferably more. |

| WA 93+ (2/2015): Celestino Pecci's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a surprise hit from a wonderful vintage. I had never previously tasted the wines from this estate and was delighted to encounter a wine with such sharp definition and intensity. The generous bouquet is redolent of pressed roses, dark fruit, tobacco, spice and leather. The aromas are well stitched together to form a tight vinous fabric. That impression is carried forward to the mouth where polished tannins give the wine a firm sense of grip over the palate. Fresh acidity keeps it lively and crisp. |

Lovely floral perfume to the tangy red cherry aroma; I might have picked this as Burgundy from the nose. Juicy, intense and sharply delineated, with compelling inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of red cherry, raspberry and rose petal. Finishes juicy and tight but seamless, with silky tannins and lovely lift. Very 2010 in its razor-sharp precision and penetrating length. Little obvious sign of oak here, which is all to the good. VM 96 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Via Nuova opens with exquisite inner perfume and sweetness. Crushed rose petals, mint, pine, licorice and sweet red berries all lift out of the glass in a fragrant, aromatically expressive Barolo of the highest level. The 2010 has it all; perfume, fruit, intense, crystalline salinity and bracing, chalky, young Nebbiolo tannins that will help the wine age gracefully for years. Beginning in 2010, the Via Nuova is a multi-vineyard Barolo comprised of fruit from Terlo, Liste, Gabutti, Baudana, Ravera (di Monforte) and young vines in Mosconi. Chiara Boschis had trademarked Via Nuova as a proprietary name. Up until 2010 Via Nuova was an alternate name for the Terlo vineyard in Barolo. Going forward, all wines from that site must be called Terlo. In the meantime, Boschis acquired a number of small parcels, each too small in scale to be bottled separately, so she chose to make one multi-commune Barolo and keep her existing Via Nuova name. Make no mistake about it, the 2010 is very different (in a positive way) from previous years, in fact, it is one of the wines of the vintage.
VM 91+ (12/2013): Deep, bright red. Dark crushed cherry and inviting spices on the nose; less oaky than the 2009. A pure, silky midweight with red fruit flavors dominating. Finishes juicy, firm and long, with substantial ripe, slightly dry tannins and very good lift. Doesn't have the distinction or ineffable perfume of the Cannubi, though. |

JD 98 (2/2024): Almost the same color as the Rosso from 2010, the 2010 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva delivers aromas of pure red cherries, eau de vie, and iron-rich earth. WA 97 (3/2016): Poggio di Sotto has released one of the wines of the vintage. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva fulfills the promise of its category. Brunello Riservas are aged for six long years before their release, thus insuring extra intensity and complexity. This wine delivers both in abundance. The bouquet is more sophisticated and deeper than the Annata and in addition to dark fruit and blackberry, this wine shows an extra dose of clove and spice. In the mouth, the wine is smooth and silky, but it also shows impressive power and length. This Riserva will deliver its best performance for those who are willing to wait ten years or more.
VM 96 (2/2016): The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is rich, powerful and explosive. Dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol and a host of balsamic, mentholated notes flesh out in the glass. As is often the case with the Poggio di Sotto wines, the Riserva has noticeable volatile acidity, but here, is a thread in a very rich fabric with many, many strands. VM 95 (2/2015): The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous. A super-classic profile of sweet red cherries, smoke, tobacco, cedar and wild herbs lift from the glass in a perfumed, silky Brunello that captures the essence of Sangiovese in this cool, late-ripening vintage. The 2010 is delicious today, but it can also be cellared for another 15-20 years. Le Ragnaie's 2010 will appeal to readers with an appreciation for Red Burgundy or Nebbiolo. The 2010 is a blend of fruit from three sources. About 50% of the fruit came from the Ragnaie property, while the rest of the fruit was sourced from vineyards in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, a combination that yields a wonderfully complete Brunello full of intrigue.
WA 93 (2/2015): The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino shows easy lines with delicate nuances of red berry, bramble, rose petal, dusty earth, crushed mineral, licorice and grilled herb. No one element outweighs the others. The wine presents a delicate patchwork of Sangiovese nuances but does so in the most elegant and understated matter. Feminine in personality, the wine glides smoothly over the palate with gentle, polished tannins. This wine should show well in a few more years. |

WA 94 (10/2014): The 2010 Vigna d’Alceo Vino da Tavola is Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot folded so deep within one another, it’s difficult to hear the varietal voice of the wine. Dried cherries and blackberry appear as primary tones, but the wine also offers a good dose of spice, black olive, rosemary twig and dried plum. The wine takes its time to open in the glass and will probably require much patience in terms of cellar aging as well. |

WA 97 (6/2014): The single-vineyard 2010 Barolo Cannubi Boschis speaks in confident tones at high volumes. First produced in 1985, Cannubi Boschis is among the first single vineyard cru expressions made in Barolo. Thirty-five-year-old vines enjoy south and southeast exposures at 250 meters above sea level. The long 2010 growing season has favored optimal tannin ripeness and fine complexity on the bouquet. This is one of the standout wines of this celebrated vintage. It is well worth putting this wine at the back of your cellar where it will be untouched for years. Drink: 2017-2030.
VM 97 (2/2020): The 2010 Barolo Cannubi Boschis is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic maturity. Dark and dense on the palate, the 2010 remains massively tannic in feel, though. Tasting the 2010 next to the current releases shows the style prevalent at the time that favored more overt fruit, greater extraction and heavier oak signatures. Black cherry, espresso, chocolate, menthol and dried flowers all develop as the 2010 opens up with time in the glass. | WA 94 (3/2016): This is a magnificent wine. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a plump and generous wine that peels off with thick aromatic layers. It offers dark cherry and blackberry with spice, leather and tobacco. There is a lot of meat on these bones. The approach is soft, enduring and immediate. I loved the 2010 Brunello Annata from this producer and the Riserva lives up to my expectations (although I did like the Annata a bit more). The mouthfeel is velvety, smooth and long. Pretty mineral notes make for a dry and elegant finish. |

VM 95 (1/2014): Dark red fruit, iron, smoke, incense and orange peel are some of the many notes that flesh out in the 2010 Barolo Bric del Fiasc. A deep, fleshy Barolo, the Bric del Fiasc is incredibly polished and refined, with perhaps a bit less power than previous vintages, but more in the way of finesse. At this stage, the Bric del Fiasc comes across as not fully formed. It will be interesting to see what the next year brings.
JS 95 (3/2014): Fabulous aromas of black fruits and shitake mushrooms with hints of bark. Full body, with wonderful firm tannins that are polished and refined. Needs at least three or four years of bottle age.
VM 94+ (12/2013): Good full red. Knockout ineffable nose combines red berries, smoke, pepper and herbs. Pure silk on entry, then rather compact and closed in the middle despite its serious density and underlying richness. Most impressive today on the savory, echoing back end, where the tannins are buffered by red fruits and smoke. This wonderfully supple, full, youthfully medicinal wine needs time in bottle to express itself. |

WA 94+ (2/2015): I am absolutely impressed by the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino from La Serena. The style is bold and far-reaching (the alcohol clocks in at 15%) yet the volume is never turned up so high as to drown out the delicate layers of cassis, balsam herb, rosemary and dried tobacco that flutter weightlessly at the back. In addition to the high quality of fruit, the wine exhibits seductive notes of spice, tobacco and dried jerky. This excellent Brunello has not yet started its bottle evolution. Its prime drinking window won't open for another six to ten years so you'll need to be extremely patient. |

That's not easy to do and the excellent 2010 fruit plays a big role in achieving this goal. The wine offers a long succession of aromas that span from ripe fruit, to smoked meat, to grilled herb and soft spice. Delicate tones of licorice, cola and anise seed add life and energy. The list goes on. The wine's mouthfeel is best characterized by softness and structure, a two-fold approach that gives high hopes for the long aging potential of this wine. | VM 100 (1/2014): The 2010 Barolo Ravera is one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted from Vietti. Stunning. It's as simple as that Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices, crushed rocks and pine jump from the glass in a vivid, crystalline wine endowed with captivating purity, clarity and finesse. The 2010 takes hold of the palate and never lets up, gaining body, breadth and volume over time. A breathtaking, perfumed finish rounds out the finish. The Ravera represents a bit of a stylistic departure for Vietti and a return to a more traditional style of winemaking. The 2010 was done entirely in cask, with minimal racking. In its early years, it was virtually impossible to taste as the reductive winemaking style gave a wine with closed aromatics and searing tannin. Today, the 2010 is beginning to blossom into an epic Barolo. The 2010 Ravera may well be the single greatest Barolo Luca Currado has ever made. It is also a wine that, along with the Barolos of Elvio Cogno, show just how much potential the hills of Ravera have to offer. Readers who can find the 2010 Ravera should not hesitate. It is a legendary, benchmark Barolo in the making. There’s a richness to the scents with ripe blackcurrants, cherries and touches of rose and violets too with some milk chocolate. Supple and tart, high acidity, juicy and ripe fruit, with crunchiness, quite lean but there’s great length with freshly picked mint and some cedar and herbal aspects. JD 94 (4/2022): I love the nose on the 2019 Château Capbern, a medium to full-bodied, spicy, rich, tobacco and cedar pencil-filled beauty with ripe yet building tannins, a great mix of richness and freshness, and a blockbuster of a finish. It's incredibly impressive, and while it offers pleasure even today, it deserves 5-6 years of bottle age, and I can't imagine it not evolving for two decades. (Drink between 2027-2042).
VM 89 (2/2023): The 2019 Capbern has improved since I tasted it just after bottling. Finally, it has developed a more elegant bouquet, mainly black fruit fused with cedar and undergrowth scents. VM 93 (3/2021): The 2018 Cos Labory is fabulous. An extra kick of richness from the warm year and a bit more Petit Verdot than usual result in a Cos Labory that is wonderfully savory, powerful and layered. Black cherry, plum, cloves, chocolate and dried herbs build as this potent, exotically ripe Saint-Estèphe opens in the glass. Today, the 2018 is dark, brooding and in need of cellaring. WA 93 (3/2021): The 2018 Cos Labory has a deep garnet-purple color, bursting from the glass with bold notes of warm cassis, blackberry compote and Morello cherries, plus suggestions of roses, unsmoked cigars and tree bark. The medium-bodied palate has a very sturdy frame of firm, grainy tannins and tons of freshness supporting the rather delicately played fruit, finishing long and earthy/minerally. The structure stands out a little now, which I enjoy, but for those preferring softer, rounder expressions, give this a good 3-5 years in the cellar and drink it over the next 15-20 years.
JD 90 (3/2021): Lots of rich red and black currants, tobacco, savory spice, and new leather notes emerge from the 2018 Château Cos Labory, a medium-bodied Saint-Estèphe with terrific overall balance, ripe, velvety tannins, lots of character, and outstanding length. WA 92-94 (6/2020): This year's blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 de Pez comes tumbling out of the glass with an astonishingly beautiful perfume of lilacs, black cherries and black raspberries over a core of stewed plums, clove oil, dark chocolate and Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate is jam-packed with energetic black fruits, supported by a firm foundation of ripe, grainy tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and perfumed. This carries to a medium-bodied, seamless 2018 with terrific overall balance, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length on the finish. Tasting like a topflight Saint-Emilion, it will benefit from a year or so in the cellar and impress for at least a decade. WA 92 (4/2023): A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Joanin Bécot exhibits delicate aromas of blueberries, flowers and violets with touches of tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, it’s a lively, rather delicate wine with a fleshy core of fruit and a crystalline texture overlaid with a fresh, penetrating finish that has racy acidity. The wine will offer a broad tasting window.
VM 89 (3/2021): The 2018 Joanin Bécot has retained the earthy, cedar-tinged bouquet that takes a few swirls of the glass to emerge. There is crisp black fruit here, pine fresh. The medium-bodied palate delivers fine grip on the entry and dusky black fruit mixed with tobacco and sage. Almost Left Bank in style toward the graphite-tinged finish. JD 94 (2/2019): From an estate on the uptick and showing beautifully on two separate occasions, the 2016 Château Labégorce is a head-turner of a Margaux that’s based on 52% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that was brought up in 45% new oak, with the balance in once-used barrels. Sexy notes of blackcurrants, black raspberries, crushed flowers, sandalwood, and incense all flow to a medium to full-bodied, fabulously textured Margaux that carries ripe tannins, loads of fruit and richness, and a great finish. Since arriving in 2009, Marjolaine de Coninck has resurrected this estate and the wines now play with the top in the appellation. WA 93+ (11/2018): The 2016 Labégorce is composed of 52% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, aged in 45% new and 55% one-year-old French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps out of the glass with gregarious cassis, kirsch and black raspberries, candied violets, dark chocolate and spearmint. Medium-bodied, elegant, fresh and with exciting intensity, it delivers a fantastically long, fragrant finish. 12,000 cases produced.
VM 93 (4/2026): The 2016 Labégorce has a very pretty nose with blackberry, briar, cedar and well-integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, a little more acidity than its peers, segueing into a savoury, black pepper-tinged finish that shows admirable persistence and sapidity. There are layers of ripe black fruits and chewy tannins here, so it will benefit from a few more years in bottle or a serious carafing before drinking. 48hl/h yield, 35% new oak with both 225l and 400l barrels. Converting to organic farming as of 2020.
VM 92 (3/2021): The 2018 Lilian Ladouys is showing nicely now that the wine is in bottle. It has a riper bouquet compared to, say, the Calon-Ségur, more lush – a 2018 with wider appeal, featuring blueberry and cassis scents that soar from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that disguise the backbone of this Saint-Estèphe. It is not the most powerful Lilian Ladouys in recent years, safeguarding its linearity and strictness all the way through to the finish. Cocoa bean, espresso, plentiful berry fruit, touches of mandarin peel and lemongrass to lift things on the finish, slate texture tannins, good stuff.
JD 89 (2/2023): A terrific wine, the 2020 Goulee By Cos D'Estournel sports a healthy ruby/purple hue as well as ripe aromatics of currants, sandalwood, damp earth, and leafy tobacco. WA 94 (3/2025): The 2022 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion is punching above its weight this year. Unfurling in the glass with a gourmand, lively and vibrant bouquet of raspberry, mulberries, rose, violet and cassis, it's medium to full-bodied, seamless and layered with refined, velvety tannins and a deep core of fruit, concluding with a harmonious, elegant profile that avoids any excess, enhancing its distinctive personality. Guillaume Pouthier, Guillaume Deschepper and their team have done a fantastic job at this address, delivering an exceptional wine.
JD 94 (2/2025): The 2022 C Des Carmes Haut-Brion is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, and the rest 1% Petit Verdot that was fermented with 30% whole clusters and aged 12 months in a new foudre (there's a small part in used barrels) followed by four months all in concrete tanks. There are fewer stems in this cuvée as the vines are younger, and it has a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. Its deep ruby/purple hue is followed by a spicy, peppery, complex perfume of darker berry and plum fruits, spring flowers, tobacco leaf, and a beautiful sense of minerality. Medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, elegant, and loaded with character, it's a singular Pessac-Léognan that will have two decades of longevity. (Drink between 2025-2045).
VM 92 (2/2025): The 2022 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) from gravelly soils, will be kept for one year in bottle before release. It has 13.3% alcohol, reduced by the 30% whole cluster contribution with infusion rather than maceration, using a coffee plunger concept to push down the cap in the vat. It aged for one year in barrel and one year on foudres. The nose presents blackberry, clove and curry leaf aromas, with a touch more mint than before. The medium-bodied palate has slightly chalky tannins and is fresh thanks to the whole bunch contribution. Quite linear and a little Syrah-like towards the finish, this lovely wine will age well over the next 12 to 20 years. (Drink between 2028-2048). Neal Martin. |

WA 94-96 (4/2015): The Château Rayne-Vigneau 2014 could be one of the standouts of the vintage. It was showing a little new oak on the nose, though readers should note that this sample was taken from a new Burgundy barrel. There are touches of vanilla infusing the honeyed fruit. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry. This is very balanced and poised with superb tension, energetic but classy, a sophisticated Sauternes that feels persistent and long in the mouth. Talented winemaker Anne Le Naour has crafted another beauty from this estate that deserves more respect. |

Lightly perfumed on the nose, this conjures raspberry, strawberry and wild hedgerow scents, more complex than your common or garden Bourgogne Rouge. The palate is medium-bodied with satisfying concentration, not weighty or dense but light on its feet with commendable purity and grip on the finish. Traces of tobacco emerge on the aftertaste. BH 88-91 (1/2025): (mostly from Belle-Vue in Comblanchien with small amounts of Les Loges, Les Leurey and Vaucrains.) BH 87 (6/2025): A more layered nose is comprised by notes of petrol, various white orchard fruit, acacia and a whiff of citrus confit. There is a bit more volume to the vibrant and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that retain a fine sense of detail on the drier, longer and more complex finale. JD 93 (5/2025): Incorporating 3% Viognier, the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Germine reveals a concentrated, rich, nicely structured profile of ripe black and blue fruits, crushed stone, and floral, sappy, gamey nuances. Medium to full-bodied, with plenty of mid-palate depth and a great finish, it was vinified with 20% whole clusters and aged 20 months in barrels and demi-muids (15% new). It, too, should have 10-15 years of longevity. Drink 2025-2035.
VM 89 (1/2025): The 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Germine evokes a fairly simple aromatic profile, opening with red and black cherry notes alongside touches of violet and spice box. JD 93-95 (2/2022): Starting with what could be considered the entry level cuvée, the 2020 Cornas Granit 30 comes from further down the slope, from vines closer to the village. That's obviously not a bad thing, since this plump, full-bodied, beautifully textured Cornas has remarkable purity and elegance as well as richness. Blackberries, blueberries, subtle smoke, graphite, and violets all emerge from the glass, and it has a seamless, incredibly elegant texture.
VM 93 (12/2022): Dark violet color. Dark berry preserve, licorice, olive and exotic spice aromas, with a hint of espresso in the background. Sappy and broad on the palate, offering spice-tinged cherry-cola, blueberry and candied violet flavors with a spicy snap of black pepper. The floral note carries through a very long, dark fruit-driven finish, where gently chewy tannins add shape and closing grip. Josh Raynolds.

| JD 92 (11/2025): A cuvée whose quality has soared over the past four to five years, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is a brilliant effort in an arguably more challenging, heatwave-driven vintage. Sporting a ruby translucent hue, it boasts a brilliant perfume of ripe black cherries, redcurrants, peppery garrigue, and loamy earth with beautiful aromatic complexity. On the palate it's medium to full-bodied, has a ripe, layered mouthfeel, soft tannins, and a great finish. It's very much in the ripe, forward, sexy style of the vintage yet stays pure, graceful, and is just impossible to resist. It's not a long-term ager, so drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years. Drink 2025-2032. |

VM 90 (1/2025): Flinty elements introduce the 2023 Saint-Joseph Blanc Silice, accompanied by notes of cedar, ripe pear, white peach and lemon flesh. Full-bodied, round and generous, the 2023 bundles vibrant energy and checks out with persistence on the sapid finish. This is an exquisite white Saint-Joseph. Drink between 2025-2027. It displays aromas of pomegranate, citrus, spring flowers, iodine, jasmine and crushed stones, followed by a beautifully defined texture, a fleshy core of fruit and racy acids that underpin a delicate, well-delineated and calcareous finish. It's going to drink nicely in its youth, but I suspect it will also age gracefully over the next 2-5 years.
VM 91 (5/2023): The 2022 Rosé is savory and sweet with a rich blend of rosemary, sage and tomato leaf, giving way to dried cherries. It's silky-smooth and round with a buzz of minerality and brisk acidity up front as ginger-spiked nectarine forms toward the close. This tapers off with a salty flourish. This richness is framed by smoothly integrated tannins that impart a velvety texture, with a dimensional finish toned with graphite. This is a generously proportioned wine that will undoubtedly benefit from time in the bottle or, at the very least, a spell in the decanter to unwind. |

On the palate, the layered wine unfolds along a horizontal trajectory with subdued acidity that imparts a certain softness and density to its texture. |

WA 94 (10/2025): This is one of the most original wines from the appellation. The Tenuta di Carleone 2022 Chianti Classico sees partial whole-cluster fruit and up to three months of extended fermentation. The wine opens to a medium-garnet color with a shiny element to its appearance. The bouquet is similarly bright and punchy with lots of tart red and blue fruits. Fruit for this 55,000-bottle release is sourced from across this 32-hectare estate in Radda in Chianti. This wine is extremely giving and bright at the moment.
VM 92 (7/2025): The 2022 Chianti Classico is gracious, elegant and polished, as these wines so often are. Crushed flowers, herbs, mint, pine and light citrus overtones exalt the natural brightness of Sangiovese. This translucent, weightless Chianti Classico is a real beauty. (Drink between 2025-2037). WA 93 (6/2015): A similar purple/ruby, semi-opaque color to the Signature Syrah, the 2012 Doyenne Syrah Grand Ciel Vineyard has more minerality (no doubt due to coming from Red Mountain) to go with lots of blackberry, graphite, pepper and crushed violet notes. Like the Signature Syrah, it shows the vintage nicely with lots of concentration, integrated acidity and a big finish, where the wine's structure becomes more apparent. It will benefit from short-term cellaring and have 10-15 years of overall longevity.
VM 92+ (11/2015): Good dark red. Lovely perfume of cherry, cranberry, white pepper, spices and dusty flowers. Lovely fine-grained Syrah with a savory restraint to its highly aromatic red berry and spice flavors complicated by a hint of game. Made from a slow-to-ripen Entav clone. Finishing quite firm, even a bit youthfully sullen, this already complex Syrah needs time to evolve. (Drink between 2019-2028). Stephen Tanzer. |

| JD 93 (7/2017): The 2013 Cuvee Moriah is 87% Grenache and 13% Syrah that’s all from the Dry Stack Vineyard in the Bennett Valley. It has a gorgeous (as well as complex) bouquet of ripe cherries, cranberry, dried flowers and incense. This carries to an ethereally textured, elegant Grenache that that has sweet fruit, medium-bodied richness and a great finish. It’s not going to make old bones, but it’s going to be impossible to resist over the coming 4-5 years. This may be my favorite vintage of this cuvee to date. |

VM 91 (1/2015): Rose petals, mint, spices and sweet red berries are all laced together in the 2013 Pinot Noir Falstaff Vineyard. This is the most lifted and aromatic of the wines in this range. The 2013 is intensely saline, lifted and perfumed. It will appeal most to readers who enjoy aromatic, mid-weight Pinots. The 2013 is all about precision and nuance. BH 91 (10/2015): Notes of dried rose petal, anise, herbal tea, red currant and a hint of cinnamon introduce silky-textured medium-bodied flavors that deliver fine length on the dusty, balanced and lingering finale. This too will need a few years but less than either the Sonoma Coast or Bohan, as the overall palate impression is notably finer. Note however that the balance should allow this to age, and improve, gracefully for up to a decade. (Drink starting 2019). |

| JD 92 (2/2023): The 2019 Red Blend The Puzzle checks in as mostly Cabernet Sauvignon but includes 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot, and 1.5% each of Malbec and Petit Verdot. This vivid blue-hued 2019 has a great nose of both black and blue fruits as well as sappy green herbs and crushed stone. | JD 96 (8/2022): A blockbuster of a Sauvignon Blanc, Bevan's 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Dry Stack Vineyard comes from an Italian clone planted in gravelly soil in the Bennett Valley and is raised, I believe, in barrel. Bottled unfiltered so it has touch of haziness in its gold hue, it offers a heavenly bouquet of caramelized lemon zest, mint, orange blossom, honeyed flowers, and brioche. Rich, full-bodied, and opulent, it has incredible concentration, a layered, pure mouthfeel, good freshness, and a finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. It's not for those craving lightweight aromas and flavors and has the weight and richness of a great Chardonnay. Drink this beauty over the coming 2-3 years. |

| Decanter 98 (2/2024): Dan Kosta and Shane Finely have worked together since 2006, when Finley, at age 26, began working in the cellar at Kosta Browne. These guys are having a lot of fun with Convene, the label Kosta launched in 2019. After their entry-level bottlings, the Convene label represents the 'Premier Cru' level wines, while DK Grail is the 'Grand Cru' tier. They are unquestionably 'Holy Grail' worthy. Finley and Kosta are big fans of longer ageing and extended lees contact with their Chardonnays. We tasted in February 2024, and they'd just bottled their 2022s. Super expressive nose with wonderful ripe fruit flavours alongside butterscotch and toasty brioche. Wonderfully rich and full-bodied with plenty of salty mineral tension. Partial malolactic fermentation means the wine retains great tension, vibrancy, and freshness. Flavours run the spectrum from Meyer Lemon to apricots and white peaches. Crushed Marcona almonds are entangled in the finish, and I find this a balanced expression of California Chardonnay with the right amount of toasty richness and acidity. |
