| |
| JD 97 (9/2021): The beautiful 2017 Syrah Reva has a more elegant, streamlined, layered style that's already drinking nicely. Ample red and black fruits, bacon fat, olive, violets, and briny mineral nuances all define this classic Alban Syrah, and it's full-bodied, with a seamless mouthfeel, impeccable balance, and ripe tannins. It's certainly the more discrete, understated red in the lineup, yet this is a wine that builds with time in the glass and has perfect tannins, a terrific sense of freshness, and a great finish. It will keep for 15+ years in cold cellars. |

It’s a sweetly fruited, medium-bodied effort that has classy raspberry and strawberry fruit to go with plenty of floral and spice notes, fine tannins, and outstanding length. It too has a solid 7-8 years of prime drinking. |

The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, firm and chewy with just enough freshness and an herb-laced finish. |

| |
| VM 95 (12/2023): The 2017 Proprietary Red Wine is a wine I tasted from barrel that I then missed from bottle, as the estate chose to release the 2018 first, and this wine fell through the cracks. Several recent bottles of the 2017 have all been sublime. Readers will find a wine that shows the mid-weight, approachable style of the year off to great effect. Silky tannins wrap around dark-toned fruit, mocha, spice, licorice and chocolate. The 2017 is an elegant, beautifully balanced Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now and over the next decade or so. If I have any quibble with the 2017, it is that the oak is a bit evident. I suspect much of that has to do with the mid-weight structure of the wine itself. (Drink between 2023-2032). Antonio Galloni. |

VM 96 (2/2020): Shimmering purple. Mineral- and spice-accented black raspberry, boysenberry and candied violet on the highly perfumed nose. Shows superb depth as well as energy to the alluringly sweet red and blue fruit preserve, vanilla, fruitcake and candied violet flavors, which are complemented by smoky bacon and cracked pepper flourishes. Finishes smoky, broad and extremely long, displaying repeating florality and youthful tannic grip. Two-thirds new French oak. Josh Raynolds. JD 98 (10/2019): Notes of crème de cassis, ground pepper, and crushed flowers emerge from the 2017 Fracture, which, as always, is all Syrah and was brought up in 65% new French oak barrels. Full-bodied, beautifully layered and textured, it has classic Booker power and richness yet shows the pretty, elegant style of the vintage as well. |

| VM 96+ (1/2020): The 2017 Proprietary Red Wine Sage Mountain Vineyard comes across as remarkably primary. Bright red-toned fruit and floral notes give the 2017 striking freshness as well as nuance. Deep and layered on the palate, with superb depth, the 2017 Continuum is easily one of the wines of the year. Even in the early going, it is truly magnificent. Antonio Galloni. |

Proprietary Blend |

VM 98+ (1/2020): The 2017 Dominus is one of the truly epic, grand wines of the vintage. Rich, dense and explosive, with tremendous concentration and sheer power, the 2017 Dominus captures all the personality of this site along with the natural opulence of the year. Inky dark fruit, lavender, menthol, licorice, plum, gravel and a host of dark spice notes infuse the 2017 with seemingly endless layers of nuance. Over the last two years I have tasted several hundred Napa Valley Cabernets, both from barrel and bottle. There is no question that Dominus belongs among the elite in 2017; it is simply a breathtaking wine. Certainly readers looking for a Napa Valley Cabernet to cellar should put Dominus at the top of their lists. Antonio Galloni. WA 97+ (10/2019): There was about 50% of a normal crop this year for the 2017 Dominus, due to strict selection. Grapes were harvested from September 21 to October 3 and the wine was bottled in June 2019. This year the blend is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, aged in 40% new French oak barrels. Very deep purple-black in color, it sashays nonchalantly out of the glass with graceful notions of potpourri, forest floor, crushed rocks, Ceylon tea and licorice with a core of black currant cordial, chocolate-covered cherries, mulberries and preserved plums plus a waft of garrigue. Full-bodied, the palate has a beautifully impactful, wonderfully quiet intensity of black and blue fruits with loads of floral and spicy sparks, framed by firm yet plush tannins, finishing with long-lasting earthy notes. 2,800 cases were made. JS 97 (10/2019): Very intense aromas of fruit, yet complex subtlety. Blue fruit, licorice and blackberries with flowers and perfumes. Full-bodied, round and chewy with black tea, currants and hints of leather and incense. Coffee undertones. Extremely long and exciting. Available April 2020. Drink in 2022. JD 97 (1/2020): The grand vin is the 2017 Dominus, which is based on 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, harvested between September 21 and October 3, and aged in 40% new French oak. Chateau Lafite-like notes of blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, cedary tobacco, and gravelly earth all emerge from the glass, and it's full-bodied, has a terrific sense of elegance, lots of tannins, and a great finish. This tight, powerful, concentrated Dominus will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 25 years or more. 2017 doesn't get much better. |

Deep, full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and, as with the Grenache, flawlessly balanced, it stays tight and compact on the palate and is going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age. |

JD 97 (1/2021): The Grand Vin is the 2017 Harlan Estate, and this beauty just about jumps from the glass with its pure cassis and blackcurrant fruits as well as notes of tobacco, graphite, crushed stone, and spice. With a full-bodied, expansive mouthfeel, building, velvety tannins, and a layered, seamless style that offers way more pleasure than just about every other wine in the vintage, bottles can be enjoyed any time over the coming 20-25 years. VM 96+ (1/2021): The 2017 Harlan Estate is superb. Deep, inky and wonderfully expressive, the 2017 is impeccably rendered. All the elements come together effortlessly. The nervous tannins of the vintage are evident, but there is also plenty of sumptuousness. Time in the glass brings out a whole range of red-toned fruit and floral notes that are surprising for a year with massive heat spike. The 2017 is polished and sophisticated to the core. In a word: impressive. Antonio Galloni. |

The Tribe Vyd. Syrah |

|
| |
JD 97 (4/2020): Beautiful notes of red and black raspberries, tobacco, plum sauce, loamy earth, and loads of floral notes emerge from the 2017 Syrah The Tribe Vineyard, another tight, closed wine that’s going to benefit from bottle age. Medium to full-bodied, with notable freshness as well as plenty of underlying structure, it reminds me of Cote Rotie from the Cote Blonde lieu-dit with its incredible floral character as well as its seamless texture. Beautifully done and one of the standouts in the lineup in 2017, give bottles a healthy decant if drinking any time soon, and my money is on it benefiting from 2-3 years of bottle age and evolving for 15-20 years or more. WA 96 (8/2020): The 2017 Syrah The Tribe Vineyard begins with a firm, tight nose of rustic dark red fruit and soft aromas of worn leather, black spice and dust-covered violets. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is still tight in its youth, but it remains approachable and food-friendly now. The wine has a bolder mouthfeel than the rest of the range and is balanced with firm tannins that will ensure it will last for years to come. It concludes with a long, drawn-out finish with an essence of dark red fruit and a soft, lingering spiciness. VM 94+ (12/2020): Bright full red. Pure but subdued nose hints at blackberry, black pepper, violet and menthol. In a very dark, juicy, savory, tight style; reveals a sexy hint of sweetness but quite bound up today and in need of time to soften. Peppery black fruits are complemented by a subtle floral character, which makes this wine livelier and more delineated than the High Contrast Vineyard Syrah. Finishes with firm but suave tannins and rising violety length. This beauty has the most mid-palate energy and the most explosive length of Horsepower's trio of new Syrahs but is quite backward and in need of patience. Outstanding potential here. Stephen Tanzer. |

Fleshy and concentrated but animated as well, offering juicy, sharply focused red and dark fruit and spicecake flavors that firm up with air, all sharpened by a spicy jolt of spiciness. Finishes smoky, chewy and impressively long, with resonating spice and floral notes, building tannins and subtle sweetness. 50% new oak. Josh Raynolds. |

| WA 91 (10/2020): The 2017 Savant is a blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 21 months in about 50% new French oak. It has a medium ruby-purple color and pretty notes of graphite, licorice, cedar and mint leaves with blackcurrant fruit. The palate is medium to full-bodied, grainy, ripe and juicy with a long finish. It's approachable right now but will age for another 3-5 years in bottle. |

VM 95 (1/2020): Kata has been one of the most singular wines in Napa Valley since I first tasted it, which was before it even had a name. The 2017 is no exception. Fleshy and sumptuous in the glass, with terrific resonance, the 2017 is so expressive and so inviting. Black cherry, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice, spice and new leather all build in a sumptuous, racy wine that has so much to offer. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah works so well here. (Drink between 2022-2032). Antonio Galloni. JD 94 (1/2020): Now moving under the Realm umbrella, the 2017 Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard from Kata offers up a massive blast of blue fruit, plums, orange blossom, and tobacco, with more spice and an almost herbes de Provence-like character developing with time in the glass. Medium to full-bodied, silky and seamless, it has good acidity, plenty of fine, polished tannins, and straight-up outstanding balance. It’s a beautiful wine and a great success in the vintage. (Drink between 2022-2040). |

| VM 96 (12/2020): Deep, brilliant ruby. Powerful, smoke-accented red and dark berry and spice-cake aromas are complemented by suave floral and incense accents that expand as the wine opens up. Appealingly sweet and broad on the palate, offering sappy black raspberry, cherry liqueur, star anise and lavender pastille flavors supported by a spine of juicy acidity. Smoothly plays richness off energy and finishes spicy and extremely long, with lingering florality and smooth tannins that add shape and subtle grip. (Drink between 2024-2034). Josh Raynolds. |

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vyd. Elysian Cabernet Sauvignon |
$195 |

|
| |
JD 97+ (1/2020): Certainly, one of the wines of the vintage, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Elysian comes from a first growth site outside of St. Helena and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in new barrels. It has that classic earthy, gravelly minerality that’s the hallmark of this terroir as well a full-bodied, concentrated, yet backward vibe on the palate. The tannins are sensational, it has incredible purity of fruit, and it’s packed with potential. A solid 4-5 years of bottle age are warranted, but count yourself lucky if you have bottles in the cellar. (Drink between 2025-2045). VM 94 (1/2020): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Elysian is dark, plush and sumptuous to the core. Chocolate, leather, plum, black cherry and spice bring out a darker side of Dr. Crane. The 2017 is decidedly sumptuous and flamboyant, with all the elements in the right place. (Drink between 2022-2032). Antonio Galloni. WA 94 (10/2019): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Elysian is deep garnet-purple colored with notes of plum preserves, baked cherries, crème de cassis and mocha plus hints of leather, Chinese five spice, bouquet garni and cast iron pan. The palate is full-bodied, firm and chewy with a good core of fruit and spicy finish. (Drink between 2021-2040). |

$109 |

|
| |
WA 97 (8/2020): A masterclass of finesse and elegance, the 2017 Grenache la Paciencia Vineyard explodes with seductive floral tones that immediately capture your attention. Brilliantly defined dark cherry notions with aromas of rose hip and black spice tones sashay out of the glass. Nuances of dusty leather and wild strawberry float on top of the glass with red floral bouquet aromas. With 13.5% alcohol, this pure, medium-bodied wine is chock-full of flavor, bursting at the seams with a subtle smoky tone that perfectly frames the ripe red fruit. The palate is balanced with a velvety mouthfeel and energizing acidity to age for more than a decade. It displays expertly managed tannins and spiced red fruit that continues to unpack and evolve with mind-blowing complexity. The long-lived finish has a mineral tension and offers up notions of wild strawberry, dark cherry skin, newly opened peonies and luxurious and elegant black spice tones—another brilliant bottling from Christophe Baron. JD 95 (4/2020): The 2017 Grenache from this terrific label knocks it out of the park with its beautiful wild strawberry fruit intermixed with notions of damp earth, sweet mulch, lavender, flowers, and hints of tapenade. Incredible complex, it’s ethereal and elegant on the palate, with medium-bodied richness and depth, silky tannins, and a great finish. Reminding me of a Vosne Romanée (Domaine Dujac?), it’s going to keep for 10-12 years, probably longer. (Drink between 2020-2033). VM 92 (12/2020): Good medium red. Wild aromas of red berries, gunpowder, mocha and white pepper, plus hints of smoked meat and underbrush. Dense, savory, saline and smooth; can't quite match the high-pitched complexity and primary fruit intensity of the Cayuse God Only Knows Grenache but firm and long, finishing with solid tannic grip. A touch dusty and meaty on the back end, and less floral than the God Only Knows. Good for this bottling but not special, as it does not have quite the intensity or thrust of the '16. In a distinctly saline Old World style. Still, I raised my score by a point when the wine developed more fruit sweetness with extended aeration. (13.6% alcohol) (Drink between 2021-2027). It was aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant scents of Black Forest cake, preserved plums and blueberry pie plus touches of redcurrant jelly, potpourri, clove oil and dark chocolate. Melanson Vyd. Cabernet Sauvignon |
$189 |
1 |
|
| |
| JD 97 (1/2020): Even better, I suspect the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon might be a candidate for the wine of the vintage with 4-5 years of bottle age. From a vineyard on Pritchard Hill, just across from Colgin, and 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, this inky colored beauty offers loads of blueberry and blackcurrant liqueur-like fruits as well as lots of spice, flowery incense, and subtle herbal undertones. Textbook Cabernet on the nose, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, building tannins, a stacked mid-palate, and a great, great finish. It’s one of the few wines in the vintage that comes close to rivaling its 2015 and 2016 counterparts. The cellar will be your friend on this one, though, and a good 4-6 years of bottle age are warranted. |

JD 96+ (1/2020): These Quivet Cellars releases are made by Mike Smith, who, for any Napa lover, probably needs no introduction. The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is rocking stuff and comes from a brilliant vineyard just outside of St. Helena, not more than a stone’s throw from the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard. This is a classic Cabernet with loads of blue fruits, tobacco, spring flowers, and a terrific sense of minerality. It shows more floral notes with time in the glass, is medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, has remarkable purity, and a great finish. It should pick up additional nuances and complexity with 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 20+. VM 90 (1/2020): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is pushed to the max. Ripe, jammy fruit and a muscular feel that is so characteristic of Las Piedras Cabernets yields a wine that is quite distinctive. Super-ripe dark fruit, leather, menthol and chocolate are pushed forward in this overt-flamboyant Cabernet. Antonio Galloni. WA 91 (10/2019): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard is deep garnet-purple colored with medicinal, baked black and blue fruit, herbs and cedar. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and juicy with good expression. |

$275 |

|
| |
| JD 97 (1/2020): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is another head-turning wine that defies the vintage. Coming from one of the benchmark sites in all of Napa as well as the world, it sports a deep purple hue as well as awesome notes of ripe black cherries, graphite, flowery incense, and violets. While the vineyard always seems to produce some of the most opulent and extroverted wines in the vintage, this beauty also has considerable elegance, silky tannins, and a great finish. It should continue drinking brilliantly for 20-25+ years or more. |

| JD 98 (1/2020): Another wine in the running for the wine of the vintage is the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard CCS, which, as always, is all Cabernet aged in new Darnajou barrels. This full-bodied, magical 2017 has incredibly polished, silky tannins as well as a mammoth-sized texture and mouthfeel. Loaded with notions of blueberries, white flowers, graphite, candied violets, and incense, it’s one of those wines that carries incredible richness and depth yet never seems heavy or cumbersome. The 2017 doesn’t get much better, and this beauty can be drunk today or cellared for two decades. |

| JD 97 (1/2020): Yields at Schrader are down a massive 50%, yet what they put in bottle is certainly brilliant. Starting with their 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard, it’s one of the plusher, more rounded, sexy wines in the lineup and is loaded with cassis and assorted blue fruits as well as notes of white flowers, violets, and tobacco. Full-bodied, concentrated, and opulent on the palate, it’s one big mouthful of pleasure bent fruit that’s hard to match in the vintage. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 20 months in 90% new oak, it’s going to put a smile on everyone’s face any time over the coming 20 years or so. |

| JD 94 (1/2020): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon To Kalon Vineyard Monastery Block is always terrific, yet I always find it more linear and foursquare compared to some of the other releases in the lineup. Nevertheless, it offers a terrific bouquet of gravelly earth, ground herbs, chocolaty dark fruits, and some obvious minerality. This full-bodied Cabernet is going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 plus. |

All Cabernet aged 20 months in 95% new French oak, this full-bodied, concentrated 2017 has terrific tannins, a balanced, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish. It too is destined for 15-20 years of prime drinking. |

| JD 98 (1/2020): In the top handful of wines in the vintage, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard T6 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (which was harvested the morning of the fires) that spent 20 months in 92% new French oak. This is a powerhouse of a wine that’s loaded with fruit and richness, yet it still just glides across the palate with no sensation of weight or heaviness. Dense purple-hued, with lots of chocolaty black and blue fruits, incense, and spice as well as unsmoked tobacco, give bottles 3-4 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following two decades |

Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 L) |

JD 98 (1/2021): In the running for the wine of the vintage, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is an incredible success and offers more depth, opulence, and purity than just about every other wine out there. Revealing a dense purple color as well as a killer nose of blueberries, chocolate-covered cherries, scorched earth, tobacco, violets, and exotic spices, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a seamless, pure, incredibly layered mouthfeel, building tannins, and a great, great finish. As with most top 2017s, it stays tight and compact on the palate, with notable structure and impressive concentration. It has some up-front appeal given its purity of fruit and balance, yet it's going to take 7-8 years to hit prime time and will be a long-lived bottle of Napa Cabernet. Hats off to Doug Shafer and the team for yet another magical Cabernet Sauvignon! VM 97 (1/2021): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is an insanely beautiful wine. The aromatics alone are pure seduction. Juicy, red berry fruit, crushed flower, cinnamon, blood orange and spice give the 2017 quite a bit of complexity, but it is the wine's textural finesse and impeccable balance that elevate it to its place among the very finest wines of the year. Stylistically, the 2017 is a bit more red-toned in profile. Texturally, it is a bit lighter and less opulent than the norm, but that is not a bad thing. The 2017 has always been stellar from barrel, but the from-bottle tasting is the proof in the pudding. It's a tour de force from Proprietor Doug Shafer and Winemaker Elias Fernandez. Antonio Galloni. WS 94 (5/2022): This drips with rich blackberry, boysenberry and raspberry fruit flavors and is liberally laced with licorice root and singed alder notes, delivering a nice tarry tug through the finish as the fruit drips. Shows a twinge of the vintage's rusticity in its tannins, but it's a heck of an effort in this tricky year. Best from 2023 through 2036. 2,400 cases made. |

WA 97+ (10/2019): Made of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple in color and prances out of the glass with vivacious blackberries, crushed black cherries, warm black currants and red currant jelly scents plus exotic hints of cassia, cardamom, fenugreek and star anise with a waft of underbrush. Medium-bodied, the palate has fantastic energy and beautiful poise, with bags of bright, crunchy black and red fruit plus a firm, fine-grained texture, finishing long and spicy. JD 96 (1/2020): Looking at the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, which was bottled two months prior to my tasting, it too has a Château Margaux-like complexity and elegance, with beautiful notes of crème de cassis, sandalwood, dried flowers, tobacco leaf, and lead pencil. Harvested all pre-fire, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and remarkable purity, all making for a quintessential Spottswoode that’s going to benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and keep for 20+ years. VM 96 (1/2020): Spottswoode's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon has been simply tremendous on both occasions I have tasted it so far. Sweet red cherry, red plum, flowers and mint give the 2017 striking freshness to complement its decidedly mid-weight structure. The intense heat of the vintage caused ripening to slow down and yielded a wine with just 13.7% alcohol, which is low for both the estate and Napa Valley in general. Spottswoode was one of the first estates in the valley to adopt a more moderate approach to farming and that really paid off in 2017, as a wine of this level in that year could have only resulted from impeccable farming. In a word: magnificent! Antonio Galloni. JS 96 (10/2019): A soft, velvety red with dark-berry, blackcurrant and plum aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, creamy and delicious. Pretty tension of fruit and tannins. Very refined. 89% cabernet sauvignon, 7% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. Drink or hold. WS 95 (11/2020): Features a sleek and racy edge, with damson plum, bitter cherry and black currant fruit working together, revealing pinpoints of savory, sage and iron scattered throughout. The mouthwatering finish shows the vintage's slightly brambly grip, but with superior integration and energy to most of its peers. Best from 2022 through 2038. 4,019 cases made. |

Sweet red berry fruit, floral notes, spice and mint are all nicely lifted in this enticing, mid-weight Cabernet Sauvignon from Staglin. The 2017 offers lovely freshness and aromatic presence in a medium-bodied Cabernet that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. Antonio Galloni. |

WA 98+ (8/2020): This is the second edition of this single-vineyard cuvee from The Third Twin estate in Los Alamos, as a follow-up to last year’s “Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemelo,” but this time the core of the blend is Grenache as opposed to Mourvèdre. Due to a possible trademark dispute, this wine may get a name change prior to release, potentially to be called, “The Other Lady.” The small proportion of Viognier in this blend was co-fermented with red grapes, but interestingly, because it ripens earlier than the reds, the white berries were frozen and added to the reds at the time of fermentation. As an added bonus, these frozen grapes help to cool and, therefore, slow the fermentation. This wine was recently bottled, on May 22, 2020, after spending 32 months in French oak, 12% new. JD 98 (8/2020): Coming from the more sandy soils of the estate The Third Twin Vineyard and just bottled, the 2017 The Other Lady TBD checks in as 42% Grenache, 17% Mourvèdre, 15% Petite Sirah, 12% Graciano, 11.5% Syrah, and the final 2.5% Viognier. It saw just a touch of stems (18%) and spent 32 months in just 12% new French oak. Deep purple/blue, it offers a stunning bouquet of blueberries, black cherries, bay leaf, smoked game, pepper, and violets. Rich, full-bodied, and beautifully concentrated on the palate, with ripe tannins, it shows the more focused, structured style of the vintage beautifully and is going to be long lived. VM 94-96 (8/2020): An explosion of floral and spice notes lifts from the 2017 Nuestra Señora del Tercer Gemelo. Crushed red berries, flowers, mint and cinnamon give the 2017 striking aromatic intensity to match its mid-weight personality. Silky tannins and lifted aromatics add to a feeling of weightlessness in this very pretty, nuanced wine. The blend is 42% Grenache, 17% Mourvèdre, 15% Petite Sirah, 12% Graciano, 11.5% Syrah and 2.5% Viognier, using 18% whole clusters. Aging of around 32 months was done in mostly used oak, with 12% new wood. Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 97 (1/2020): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Calarcadia Vineyard is dense, plush and super-expressive. Super-ripe red cherry, red plum, white flowers, mint, blood orange and cinnamon all run through the 2017. I am really impressed with the wine's freshness and nuance, both of which took considerable effort to achieve. Medium in body, exotic and alluring, the 2017 is one of the best wines of the year. Sadly, production is just above 200 cases—which is about half of normal. (Drink between 2022-2037). Antonio Galloni. |

| VM 93 (1/2020): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is one of the more open-knit Cabernets I have ever tasted here. Although the 2017 does not have the depth or dimension of the very finest years, in exchange, it will drink well pretty much upon release, which is highly unusual for this typically slow-to-mature Cabernet. Floral and savory overtones add shades of nuance to a core of expressive red-toned fruit in a sensual, totally alluring Cabernet from the Togni family. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 97 (1/2020): The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard is a big, powerful, brawny Calistoga Cabernet. Black cherry, grilled herbs, leather, menthol, licorice and cured meats give the 2017 striking aromatic nuance to play off a core of huge black fruit. Big, muscular tannins frame this decidedly virile, potent Cabernet Sauvignon. This is an especially rich, masculine wine. It is also the only pure Cabernet in the Turnbull range. (Drink between 2024-2037). Antonio Galloni. WA 92+ (10/2019): Deep purple black colored, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard offers up notes of plums preserves, blueberry pie and spice cake with hints of Indian spices, fallen leaves and tobacco plus a waft of potpourri. Full-bodied, the palate is packed with spicy black fruit preserves, framed by chewy tannins and finishing savory. |
