VM 93 (4/2014): Palish bright red. Highly perfumed nose combines redcurrant, cherry, smoky minerals and faded flowers, complicated by earth and caramel nuances. Taut and juicy in the mouth, with a tightly coiled spring of pungent minerality energizing the youthful flavors of ripe cherry, redcurrant, smoke and spices. Much less creamy than the Champans, with a saline calcaire element giving the mid-palate uncanny detail. Finishes sweet, subtle and long, with utterly seamless, fine-grained tannins. With its firm tannins and strong minerality, this should make a great dinner companion--but give it at least six or seven years in the cellar. BH 91 (4/2014): An incredibly perfumed, airy and cool nose speaks of anise, essence of red berry fruit, stone and floral hints. There is a distinctly textured mouth feel to the restrained and beautifully well-detailed and intensely mineral-driven flavors that possess a highly refreshing mouth feel, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, restrained and delicious finish. A lovely and very understated effort that should also reward mid-term cellaring. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! WA 91 (12/2013): The 2011 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs has an accomplished, sophisticated, mineral-driven bouquet that echoes the nascent 2012. The palate is crisp and a little leafy on the entry, something just slightly autumnal about it. The tannins are firm and just a touch austere, but they are neatly embroidered into the black fruit profile. The finish exerts a pleasant grip and it lingers long in the mouth. This is a classy wine hemmed in by an average growing season. These 2011s were all tasted with Guillaume d'Angerville at the domaine in Volnay. |

BH 90-93 (4/2013): (from a 1.57 ha parcel) This is also quite beguilingly perfumed with an ultra-high-toned nose of pure essence of red pinot fruit that reveals plenty of wet stone character. There is a palpable sense of underlying tension as this is particularly vibrant and this sensation is enhanced by the intense salinity that pervades both the mid-palate as well as the impressively persistent and mouth coating finish. This impeccably well-balanced effort displays the inherent muscularity of a fine Fremiets and will need at least a decade to arrive at its apogee. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! VM 90-93 (2/2013): Bright medium red. Precise, high-pitched aromas and flavors of red cherry, raspberry and chalky minerality. Juicy, vibrant and pure, delivering impressive intensity without any obvious weight. Terrific mineral cut and a firm acid/tannin spine should keep this beauty youthful for many years. Offers Outstanding verve for the vintage. |

BH 94 (1/2014): (from a .53 ha parcel). An exquisitely fresh and pure nose of cool red currant and mineral reduction slides gracefully into detailed, precise and restrained medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent verve and a taut muscularity. This really brims with minerality on the mouth coating finish that delivers super length. Terrific. Drink 2023+. VM 91-94 (2/2013): Good deep red-ruby. Cool aromas and flavors of raspberry, red cherry and crushed rock lifted by pepper and herbs. Pure, juicy and precise if a bit youthfully imploded, but already showing terrific sappy intensity. Finishes very long and perfumed, with a serious tannic spine. Promises to be Lachaux's best vintage yet for this cuvee, which he initiated with the 2008 after purchasing these old vines from Christopher Newman. |

WS 91 (4/2014): Bursting with cherry, raspberry and floral flavors, this is supple and intense. The firm, vibrant structure creates harmony, while the fruit and mineral notes finish long and satisfying. Best from 2015 through 2023. 350 cases made. BH 90-93 (1/2013): A highly spiced nose of both red and black pinot fruit is trimmed in hints of earth and sandalwood. The very generous and impressively rich medium weight flavors are blessed with an abundance of dry extract that imparts a beguilingly seductive texture to the lush, balanced and persistent finish. This is first rate as Chaumes rarely possesses this level of potential quality. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! VM 90-93 (2/2013): (racked and sulfited): Good bright, dark red. Raspberry, spices, flowers and licorice on the scented nose. Dense, sweet and creamy, with a dominant flavor of sappy maraschino cherry. Finishes impressively long and palate-saturating, with ripe tannins and good medicinal reserve. Lachaux noted that this cuvee used to be harder, but is very supple in both 2011 and 2010. Excellent potential. |

VM 88 (3/2014): The 2011 Bourgogne is a pretty entry-level offering from Denis Bachelet. Blue/purplish fruit, sweet tobacco and licorice are some of the notes that inform the supple, easygoing finish. This is a terrific wine in its class. (Drink between 2014-2016). Antonio Galloni. WA 88 (2/2014): The entry-level 2011 Bourgogne Rouge has a lovely leafy bouquet with dark earthy fruit that feels natural and refined. The palate is medium-bodied with raspberry and strawberry fruit on the entry, fine tannins and a pleasant supple finish. This is uncomplicated and totally delicious. Drink now-2016. |

VM 92+ (4/2014): (12.6% after chaptalization): Medium red. Dark berries, licorice and a peppery note on the nose. Concentrated and youthfully tight, with a distinctly pungent quality to its pomegranate flavor. Has power and thrust for a moderately ripe wine. Best today on the juicy finish, which mounts slowly and builds well. This needs at least six or seven years of cellaring. BH 92 (1/2014): (From a .85 ha parcel). A relatively high-toned nose of sour cherry, raspberry, wet stone and hints of underbrush lead to cool, pure and impressively precise flavors that ooze a fine minerality on the delicious and stylish finish. This is a powerful but classy wine with plenty of concentration though note that this will likely need at least 6 years to be approachable and fully 9 to 12 to realize its full potential. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! |

| BH 91 (4/2015): Positively stunning aromatics are composed of classic Chambolle aromas of spice, flowers and various red berry fruit scents. The beguilingly textured and well-detailed medium-bodied flavors possess a silky mouth feel, all wrapped in a solidly persistent and impeccably well-balanced finish. This is not more than moderately ripe but it avoids auterity plus there is so much energy that one just really feels like drinking it. While this could certainly be profitably held for another 3 to 5 years to develop a bit more depth, it could easily be enjoyed young. Try from 2018+. |

BH 91 (4/2013): (from 25+ year old vines). A deft touch of wood sets off the notably ripe mix of cassis and various dark berries that elegantly introduces the cool, pure and energetic flavors that seemed fashioned from nothing but silk and satin, all wrapped in a delicate, refined and beautifully balanced finish. This is a classic Chevret of matchless finesse. Drink 2018+. VM 91-93 (2/2013): Bright red-ruby. Rather brooding aromas of cassis, blackberry, smoke and licorice are pure and discreet. Surprisingly rich on entry, then lush and seamless in the middle, but with very good acidity framing and lifting the black fruit and game flavors. The powerful, rising finish features building tannins and a distinct thick-skinned character. The old vines in Boillot's parcel were strongly affected by millerandage, which largely explains this wine's extra measure of texture and concentration. Boillot noted that his 2011s generally have 3.8 to 4 grams per liter of acidity following the malos, which is quite healthy for the vintage. |

BH 93 (4/2011): (from a ~.34 ha parcel in Grand Maupertuis). A very ripe nose offers up notes of plum, black pinot fruit, pungent earth and plenty of spice influence. There is a relatively refined mouth feel to the medium weight yet powerful flavors that possess Outstanding power and punch on the long, balanced and only moderately austere finish. This will need plenty of cellar time but should very much be worth the wait. Drink 2023+. VM 92-94 (2/2013): (from the Grand Maupertuis section of Clos-Vougeot, close to Grands-Echezeaux): Bright red-ruby. Wild aromas of black cherry, earth, pepper and flowers. Silky, rich and graceful, offering full ripeness and harmonious acidity. Most impressive today on the very long, perfumed finish, which features utterly fine-grained tannins and a suggestion of menthol. |

BH 94 (4/2013): (near the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted North-South). Somewhat counterintuitively this possesses riper fruit with distinct sauvage notes to the humus and mineral-inflected, brooding and very cool wild dark berry fruit aromas. There is excellent power to the driving and highly energetic, stony and robust flavors that display impressive mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in an austere, explosive and strikingly long finish. This is a serious wine but then again, isn’t Chambertin virtually always serious in its youth? Drink 2026+. VM 92-95 (2/2013): Good dark red. Very pure but reticent aromas of dark berries, mocha and sandalwood; smells creamy. Then lush and seamless in the mouth, but with great energy to the flavors of black cherry clafouti, dark chocolate, licorice and pepper. The explosive, slowly mounting finish features substantial fine-grained tannins and black fruit and pepper elements complicated by saline minerality. |

BH 92-94 (1/2013): As complex as the Pruliers is, the Les Cailles ratchets it up yet another notch with its spicy and pure blend of cassis, plum, violet and distinct iron-infused earth. There is excellent richness to the cool and equally pure medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent focus on the explosively long finish. The tannins are dense but quite fine and this offers outstanding upside development potential. (Drink starting 2023). VM 0-93 (1/2013): Good full, bright red. Very ripe, deep nose offers pomegranate, cranberry and pungent crushed-stone minerality. Very rich and silky; a step up in density from the Pruliers. Thick and chocolatey but with very good lift and verve. Finishes with complex soil tones and serious tannins that will require five or six years of cellaring. Stephen Tanzer. WA 90 (11/2014): Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles 2011 offers quite prominent and luscious (for the vintage) fruit on the nose with generous oak, however it is deftly integrated with the succulent, tart red cherry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Again, I find that the oak is a little conspicuous, though underneath there is plenty of candied red fruit interlaced with orange peel and tangerine on the feminine, lithe finish. Give this two or three years in bottle and you will have a pretty Nuits Saint Georges. |

| BH 93 (4/2013): Much like the Musigny, this is really beautifully spicy but here there are intense earth and sauvage undertones to the mostly wild red berry fruit scents. There is excellent volume and plenty of minerality to the focused, energetic and overtly powerful large-scaled flavors that culminate in an austere finish that displays noticeable gas which accentuates the firmness of the tannins. Even so, this is clearly a long-distance runner and like the Griotte, I would strongly advise buying this only with the intent to cellar it for at least a decade. Drink 2023+. |

| BH 94 (1/2014): This is highly expressive, indeed unusually so for very young Bonnes Mares, and offers up nothing short of a kaleidoscopic array of scents that include a wide range of floral, earth, stone and mostly red berry fruit aromas. There is fine if not special density and focused power to the big-bodied flavors that are overtly powerful and quite muscular yet there is no trace of rusticity or absence of refinement to the hugely long finish. This is a succulent yet formidable Bonnes Mares that should amply reward those who have the (considerable) patience to wait for its full maturity. Drink 2028+. |

BH 93-95 (1/2013): A deft touch of wood frames an intensely earthy, complex and notably ripe nose that features notes of spice, plum and black currant. There is excellent richness, size, weight and muscle to the vibrant middle weight plus flavors that exude a fine extract on the mineral-driven finish that offers extraordinarily good length. This is primary to the point of being quite backward yet it is not hard or aggressive as the balance of structural elements is impeccable. Drink 2023+. VM 92-94 (2/2013): Good medium red. Briary, smoky dark raspberry, minerals and flowers on the nose, plus a whiff of horseradish. Rich, dry and suave but youthfully closed, with pepper and spice notes running through to the firm aftertaste. This will be sweetened and opened up by a racking, but Seysses only planned to do this prior to the bottling. He admits that it's currently "angry"; it's certainly tricky to taste today. |

There is lovely purity and intensity to the medium-bodied flavors that possess an appealing mouth feel before terminating in a dry, clean and mildly austere finish that delivers superior depth and length. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! |

BH 92-94 (1/2013): (from a 1.57 ha parcel). Somewhat surprisingly given the usual Malconsorts trait of being quite inexpressive young, this is even spicier than the Beaux Monts with its slightly riper and darker fruit profile. On the other hand, as would be expected this is notably bigger, richer and more concentrated with an opulent mid-palate to the markedly muscular full-bodied flavors that possess impressive amounts of structure-buffering dry extract on the strikingly long finish. This is quite firm without being hard and this will need at least 15 years to arrive at its peak. Drink 2026+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! WA 90 (8/2013): The 2011 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts was also raised in 75% new oak and picked around the same time as the Beaumonts. The nose is more sensual than the Beaumonts with lifted red cherry and strawberry fruit, with oyster shell scents developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy opening. This is another masculine 2011 from Dujac with a rigid backbone and an almost surly finish that will hopefully lighten up during continued bottle age. Drink 2016-2024. |

BH 93-95 (1/2013): (from a 1.29 ha parcel). An exuberantly spicy, cool and airy nose that mixes a variety of wild red berries, humus and earth nuances where the latter component is also well-represented on the solidly well-detailed and powerful medium weight plus flavors that possess superb length. This is a big but not burly Bèze that is actually more a wine of finesse than outsized power and weight. Drink 2026+. Don't miss! VM 93-95 (2/2013): Good deep red. Deeply pitched, slightly reduced nose dominated by smoky minerality, musky soil tones, game bird, gunflint and dried rose. Thick, sweet and very intense, offering terrific smoky, soil-driven complexity but not yet displaying its underlying fruit. Finishes with big, fine-grained tannins and excellent length. Doesn't yet show the sheer eclat of the Mazis, but this may be going through an awkward stage. |

BH 92-94 (1/2013): (blended from 3 separate parcels). An attractively complex and unusually refined nose speaks of red currant, kirsch, soft earth and a hint of wood spice. There is a refined mouth feel to the larger-scaled flavors thanks to the fine grain of the ripe and well-integrated tannins on the mildly austere and impressively long, indeed even explosive finish. This is terrific and the backend offers the same excellent depth the nose promises. Lovely stuff. Drink 2026+. VM 90-93 (2/2013): Good bright, deep red. Cherry, rose petal, mocha and game on the nose, plus a hint of metallic minerality. Dense, sappy and youthfully tight; less expansive today than the Echezeaux and more peppery too. Has a serious spine for aging but seems a tad dry in the early going. |

VM 93-96 (2/2013): Bright, deep red. Very deep aromas and flavors of raspberry, redcurrant, smoke and crushed rock. At once penetrating and utterly fine-grained; explosive sappy perfume fills the mouth without leaving any impression of weight. Pinot just doesn't pull off this trick anywhere but in Burgundy's top sites. Finishes with noble tannins and Outstanding palate-staining length. BH 92-95 (1/2013): (from both Mazis Haut and Bas where the vines total a remarkable 1.20 ha). A discreet hint of wood allows the slightly riper and definitely more sauvage aromas of earth, humus, dark berries and soft spice notes to shine. There is excellent power to the robust and broad-shouldered flavors that also brim with structure-buffering dry extract that coats the palate on the mineral-driven, punchy and seriously persistent finish. This is not quite as austere as the Latricières though note that here too plenty of patience will be required. Drink 2026+. Don't miss! |

| BH 88-90 (1/2013): ( from Les Champs Perriers in Brochon.) There is enough reduction present to knock down the nose. VM 92-94 (2/2013): Bright dark red. Sexy, vivacious, very pure aromas of cassis, minerals, bitter chocolate and licorice. Suave and silky on the palate, with uncommon delicacy for Vaucrains, not to mention terrific energy. Sappy, fine-grained and sweet, with a very long, fruit-driven finish that titillates the taste buds. This lovely Vaucrains avoids the chocolatey superripeness I often find in the warmest vintages. BH 91-93 (1/2013): This is also somewhat toasty though not so much that the earthy, ripe and distinctly sauvage aromas of plum and cassis cannot be appreciated. The palate impression is strikingly rich and muscular and the typical bold and brash flavors of a classic Vaucrains are present before terminating in a wonderfully intense, austere and hugely long finish. As is almost always the case with the Gouges Vaucrains, this is very firmly structured and will need all of a decade and very probably then some to fully mature. Outstanding. Drink: 2023+. WA 90 (11/2014): Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2011 has a slightly reduced nose, though again underneath there lies some attractive mulberry, red plum and strawberry fruit. At the moment it feels a little smudged, though it gains clarity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins. The acidity here is nicely judged and lends this sufficient freshness, the finish backward and surly at the moment, but with potential to blossom with another couple of years in bottle. Not quite as good as the Les Saint Georges '11, but still a creditable wine for the vintage. |

| VM 93 (3/2014): (vinified with one-third whole clusters; aged in one-third new oak): Bright ruby-red. Complex, expressive aromas of black raspberry, cassis, mocha, game, brown spices and underbrush. Silky on entry, then thick but alive in the middle, with harmonious acidity framing the flavors of black fruits and exotic flowers. An incredibly thick and ripe 2011 with explosive fruit. Finishes with seamless tannins, lovely length and very good peppery lift. Drink now or in ten years. These 2011s are undeniably rich and thick, with adequate acidity, but I miss the ineffable treble notes the best examples of the vintage can offer. Stephen Tanzer. |

| VM 93 (3/2014): Rich and explosive to the core, Groffier's 2011 Chambertin Clos de Bèze hits the palate with huge dark blue/purplish fruit, violets, menthol and cloves. Even with all of the intensity, power and voluptuousness, my preference is to drink the Groffier Burgundies sooner rather than later. The inclusion of 50% whole clusters adds complexity and dimension. This is an especially bold, fruit-driven Bèze, but it all works. Antonio Galloni. |

| WA 93 (8/2014): Robert Groffier’s 2011 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses was tasted blind in a line-up of 2011 Amoureuses in Holland. It has a deep ruby color, but the nose is far more backward than the first two wines, a little more herbaceous and tertiary (perhaps with some more stem addition?) but still well-defined. But it is certainly less flamboyant than Drouhin and Lucien le Moine’s Amoureuses ’11, though returning on my second run-through, the wine unfurls supremely well and gains intensity. The palate is very intense and very fresh, very citric with good tension, although it does not quite have the complexity that the aromatics suggest. Reticent and masculine, this needs 4-5 years in bottle. Tasted June 2014. |

| BH 91-93 (4/2013): (the Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could keep the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15+, 25+ and 70+ years of age). A spicy, wonderfully fresh and cool nose is comprised of notes of plum, violets, anise, cinnamon, sandalwood and red pinot fruit liqueur scents. There is an opulent mouth feel to the velvety yet distinctly powerful broad-shouldered flavors that possess excellent volume before culminating in a balanced, impressively long and mouth coating finish. As classic examples of Richebourg go, this should drink well somewhat earlier yet will still require the better part of a decade to be enjoyable. Drink 2021+. |

| BH 93-95 (4/2013): There is also enough oak influence to notice though not enough to materially detract from the high-toned and overtly spicy red currant, cherry and plum suffused nose. There is a lovely minerality to the supple, forward and refined middle weight plus flavors that possess a wonderfully refined mouth feel before culminating in a long, powerful, concentrated and palate drenching finish. Background notes of wood are discernible but stop short of being invasive as they still allow the restrained, cool and pure dark berry fruit and black cherry aromas to shine. | VM 90-92 (1/2013): (from a mix of 40- and 60-year-old vines): Good bright red. Less showy on the nose today than the 1er cru, with a distinctly darker fruit character and strong spiciness. VM 92+ (4/2014): Good bright medium red. The most complex and complete of these 2011s on the nose, offering scents of black cherry, menthol, wild herbs and sexy underbrush; sappy and ripe but with noteworthy medicinal reserve. Silky on entry, then thick, bright and highly concentrated, with the violet and licorice lift and firm spine of acidity of a top Cote de Nuits wine. Lovely focus and dark fruit intensity here. Finishes bright and long, with serious but fine-grained tannins. This should age beautifully. BH 91 (4/2014): (From 40+ year old vines planted in shallow, high clay content soil sitting on a bed of solid rock). An expressive floral-infused nose displays elegant, pure and airy essence of red pinot fruit and herbal tea scents. There is a seductive texture to the soil and mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that evidence a saline component on the complex, balanced and impressively lingering finish. This is a lovely wine that should offer up to a decade of development potential. Drink 2019+. Outstanding! WA 91 (8/2013): Dominique waited long for the 2011 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-du-Milieu to settle in tank so that filtration is not necessary. It has a broody bouquet with dark cherry, boysenberry and scents of wild hedgerow. The palate is taut and pointed on the entry with a silver thread of acidity that is threaded though the introverted dark plum and boysenberry fruit. More masculine in nature, but still nicely focused on the finish, this will repay four or five years in the cellar. |

BH 93 (1/2014): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 50+ years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 25+ years of age.) This offers a big step up in aromatic complexity with its ripe and expressive nose of red berry fruit liqueur, cassis, plum and violets. There is a very suave and seductive texture to the medium weight plus flavors that possess an abundance of mouth coating extract, all wrapped in a long, balanced and delicious finish where a touch of minerality adds lift. Drink 2023+. WS 93 (2/2014): The aromas are dominated by floral, vegetal and spice notes, followed by a beam of pure cherry. Turns deeper and more complex as the finish unleashes fruit, sandalwood and mineral flavors. Excellent length. Best from 2016 through 2030. 125 cases imported. VM 92 (3/2014): (100% vendange entier; 13.2% with a bit of chaptalization): Medium red. Highly complex nose combines wild dark berries, smoky herbs, brown spices, leather, rust and pepper. Suave, elegant and fine-grained; a lovely silky midweight with perfumed notes of iron, rust, olive, wild herbs, spices and pepper. Finishes with very good spicy length. This can be enjoyed now or cellared. Offers a Lambrays-typical blend of structure and finesse, not to mention terrific aromatic complexity. Incidentally, although Brouin described 2012 as one of his best vintages of the last 20 years, he maintained that the 2011 is more transparent to its site. WA 89 (11/2014): Quite pale in color for a grand cru, the Clos des Lambrays 2011 has a very spicy bouquet with touches of wild mint and damp woodland scents coming through with aeration. The palate is light and slightly fleshy: fresh strawberry and red cherry leading to a light, peppery finish. It does lacks some substance at the beginning, although aeration sees it gaining more intensity while retaining its delineation and focus. |

VM 92-95 (1/2013): (a blend of true Charmes and Mazoyeres): Medium red. Musky, subtle aromas of black cherry, crushed stone and game. Precise and light on its feet, with intense, vibrant cherry and raspberry flavors lifted by sappy minerality and a floral element. Classy, juicy wine with lovely finishing persistence and lift. A superb showing. Stephen Tanzer. BH 91-94 (4/2013): (from both Charmes and Mazoyères.) Reduction masks the nose though there is a really lovely mouth feel to the medium-bodied flavors courtesy of the unusually fine-grained tannins. There is even a lacy quality that is enhanced by the plentiful amounts of palate coating dry extract that also serves to buffer the tannins. So while this will certainly be capable of amply rewarding longer-term aging, this is one of the few among these grands crus that should be approachable young. Dirnk 2023+. |

WA 90 (8/2013): The 2011 Pommard Les Vignots was bottled December 2012. It has a complex, slightly earthy bouquet with subtle marine influences, defined and focused with hints of black olive emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine focus, imbued with an Oriental edge (hoisin) which is folded into a fine silky finish. Drink now-2020. BH 89 (4/2013): There is a soft touch of wood to the notably ripe yet cool and airy aromas of plum, cassis and wet stone. There is excellent volume and mid-palate concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract on the detailed finish that exudes a fine minerality. This balanced effort delivers fine depth and length for its level. Drink 2018+. |

VM 94+ (9/2013): The 2011 Corton-Charlemagne impresses for its energy and crystalline purity. BH 92 (4/2013): There is enough reduction present to notice but not so much that it completely hides the spicy character of what appears to be very ripe black pinot fruit. There is a highly seductive mouth feel and texture to the extract-rich middle weight flavors that possess amazing depth for a villages level wine, all wrapped in a highly persistent finish that really fans out like a peacock's tail. An exquisite effort. Drink 2021+. WA 89 (8/2013): The 2011 Vosne-Romanee Les Genaivrieres, which lies in close proximity to Lalou’s maison in Vosne, shows a touch of reduction on the nose with primal red rather than black fruit. It comes across as a little conservative after the wonderful Nuits 2011s. The palate is silky smooth on the entry, very refined with supple, lithe tannins. There are plenty of pure dark cherry and raspberry preserve notes to enjoy with a sedate, comfy finish that has a lovely caressing texture. |

BH 93-95 (1/2013): (40+ year old vines). This is spicier still and cooler as well with a strikingly complex nose of red currant, cherry and cassis along with prominent wet stone nuances that are even more so on the precise, intense and delineated medium weight flavors that culminate in a massively long finish. This is utterly seamless and impeccably well-balanced and should be capable of amply rewarding extended cellaring. Sensational. Drink 2026+. Don't miss! Outstanding! VM 92-95 (2/2013): Good bright red. Very locked up on the nose, hinting at red cherry, black raspberry, stone and spicy oak. Dense but very tight, showing little today in the way of fruit. Most impressive on the explosive, rising, classically dry finish, which displays pungent minerality. Meo noted that this wine was "open and charming ten days ago; now it's more typical." |

VM 93 (3/2014): Mugneret-Gibourg's 2011 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Chaignots is remarkably polished and refined in this vintage. Sweet rose petals, spices and red berries emerge from a gracious Burgundy that shows the more finessed side of Nuits. This is one of the more classically structured 2011s readers will come across. Today, the Chaignots is drop-dead gorgeous. Dried rose petals, sage, mint and crushed raspberries linger on the close. Antonio Galloni. WA 93 (11/2014): Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. I appreciate the purity and floral nature of Mugneret-Gibourg’s Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Chaignots, which is well defined and seems to blossom on the glass. It feels natural and nicely focused, plenty of mulberry and raspberry fruit emerging as it opens. The palate is very well balanced with supple red cherries, spice, gingerbread and white pepper - a really cerebral Les Chaignots. There is very good weight here, the finish blessed with roiling intensity. Excellent. BH 92 (1/2014): A discreet application of wood allows the ripe aromas of cassis, earth and black cherry to be appreciated. The suave, round and opulent flavors possess a very supple and accessible mid-palate before culminating in a mouth coating and lingering finish that evidences just a hint of rusticity. Excellent. Drink 2021+. Outstanding! |

BH 95 (1/2014): ( from a 1.5 ha parcel that is roughly divided in .90 ha of terres rouges and .60 ha of terres blanches, the latter of which has the slightly older vines; in 2011 the blend is 55% terres blanches and 45% terres rouges.) This is also brilliantly perfumed if not quite as elegant as the Amoureuses with its broad ranging nose of earth, red currant, plum liqueur and lovely floral notes. There is a firm minerality to the remarkably rich, powerful and concentrated big-bodied flavors that possess both excellent volume and first-rate punch on the hugely long and youthfully austere finish. This is a stunner of a wine that will need pretty much all of 15 years, and perhaps even 20, to arrive at its full majority. Drink 2028+. WS 95 (8/2014): This seductive red offers black cherry, sandalwood and floral aromas and flavors balanced on a rich texture. Dense, featuring lively acidity, with well-integrated tannins providing support on the long and concentrated finish. Best from 2017 through 2030. 70 cases imported. VM 94+ (3/2014): Good dark red. Musky, lively aromas of raspberry, cherry liqueur and bitter chocolate. Silky red berry, red cherry and brown spice flavors are leavened by penetrating acidity, with a hint of woodsmoke adding complexity. Very sappy grand cru with good medicinal reserve; a bit compact today. This is darker in its fruit quality than the foregoing samples and the solid tannins are nobler. Very long on the aftertaste. WA 90 (11/2014): Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Christophe Roumier’s 2011 Bonnes-Mares comes across a little lean on the nose, although there is fine delineation – distinct marine scents emerging with time while there is just a touch of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied and quite masculine for a Bonnes-Mares. There is more reserve compared to its peers, but it is undeniably succinctly focused with an abiding sense of symmetry on the finish. Excellent, but at the moment it feels rugged for a Bonnes-Mares. I suspect that it will improve with 3-4 years in bottle. |

| BH 91 (1/2014): (a monopole of the domaine) A high-toned and attractively layered nose mixes notes of red and black cherry with earth and humus nuances. There is excellent detail and punch to the equally mineral-tinged medium-bodied flavors that possess relatively refined tannins that are notably finer than usual, all wrapped in a harmonious and solidly persistent finish. I like the fruit/acid balance and this should age well over the medium-term. Drink 2019+. Outstanding! |

VM 91 (3/2014): Red stone fruits, plums, menthol, rose petals and spices take shape nicely in the 2011 Charmes-Chambertin. In 2011, the Charmes-Chambertin is a bit savory and herbal, but it otherswise shows lovely balance and terrific overall depth in a pliant, mid-weight style that is best enjoyed over the next 10-15 years. BH 89-92 (1/2013): (from a 1.4 ha parcel of roughly 20 year old vines that is situated one-third in Charmes proper and the remainder in Mazoyères) In contrast to the reduction present in the prior wines this is really quite aromatically lovely with its expressive nose of very fresh red berry fruit, earth and humus scents. There are the same kinds of very fine-grained tannins underpinning the opulent yet reasonably precise medium weight flavors that culminate in a balanced and persistent if slightly less complex finish. Drink 2019+. VM 89-92 (1/2013): (two-thirds from Mazoyeres): Good full medium red. Expressive nose melds redcurrant, mocha, rust, minerals and flowers, plus a suggestion of game birds. Sweet, smoky and nicely concentrated, with a musky quality to the complex flavors of redcurrant, smoky minerality, mocha and game. Finishes with supple tannins and excellent length. Very Gevrey. WA 90 (11/2014): Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Rousseau’s Charmes-Chambertin 2011 has an earthy bouquet, just a little stemmy but nicely defined with brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins and plenty of tertiary fruit, foursquare and a little austere on the saline, angular finish that does improve in the glass. This just needs to find its groove, but there is potential, especially because it performed so exquisitely a few months back. |

| BH 90 (1/2014): Discreet wood frames somber dark berry fruit aromas that are liberally laced with earth, humus, game and smoke nuances. There is excellent richness and intensity to the round and silky-textured flavors that display good energy before terminating in a solidly complex and impressively persistent finish where a hint of bitterness is present. The supporting structure seems sufficiently ripe and as such my score offers the benefit of the doubt that the bitterness is simply a post-bottling phase. Drink 2021+. |

| VM 91 (3/2014): The 2011 Chambolle-Musigny is a pretty, accessible wine, but today I get the impression the 2011 may be headed for a period of dormancy. The relaxed, easygoing personality of the vintage is in evidence, but the fruit isn't as generous or resonant as it was a years ago. I have seen the villages blossom with few years of bottle age, though, so I would give the 2011 time in bottle. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 95+ (4/2014): Deep, dark red. An elixir of dark berries on the nose, with complicating notes of crushed stone, menthol and flowers. Thick but weightless and youthfully imploded, with an element of spicy acidity giving Outstanding cut and primary character to the blackberry and blueberry fruit flavors. Finishes dense and strong, with powerful tannic support and late hints of espresso and bitter chocolate. Fully ripe in the context of the vintage, and built for an extended evolution in bottle. BH 94 (1/2014): A remarkably attractively cool and restrained nose of various red berries, spice and a beautiful array of floral elements complements well the rich and equally cool mineral-tinged big-bodied and overtly muscular flavors. There is a really lovely sense of underlying tension on the clean and pure finish that delivers strikingly good length. This intensely mineral-driven effort is also clean and firm but with slightly better phenolic maturity to the supporting structural elements which should allow this beauty to age successfully for many years to come. Drink 2029+. WA 92 (8/2013): The 2011 Musigny Vieille Vignes Grand Cru was picked around mid-harvest during the first week of September. It has a more floral bouquet compared to the Bonnes-Mares with scents of dried rose petals and a touch of violet infusing the dark cherry and pomegranate fruit profile. The palate is supple in texture, lithe in the mouth with fine tannins, much more feminine than the Bonnes-Mares (usually I find it the other way round.) The mouth is tingling with salted licorice and white pepper on the aftertaste. Impressive for sure, but I need it to show a bit of soul. Drink 2015-2025. |
